A/N: Yay, Chapter 3! As a response to all the confused people wondering why Fabina broke up/why the heck Nina is randomly with Jerome/why I'm not getting Fabina back together, go read the A/N on the first chapter. I'm setting everybody up with everybody, then having a massive chapter where my favorites get back together. As well, canon holds true- therefore, Fabian is in love with Nina, so he's jealous of Jerome. Okay, that's a long enough A/N. I think I'll let Fabian do my disclaimer.
Fabian: What? Why? You broke me up with Nina?
Amanda: Oh, just do it already.
Fabian: No, now you're planning to set Nina up with Mick! Why in the world would she ever do that?
Amanda: *head in hands* Fabian, do the disclaimer, or I'll *forget* to do the break-up scene.
Fabian: Amanda does not own House of Anubis.
Unknown POV
"Mick, please! It'd be the perfect way to get Fabian jealous over Nina! And you know they'd be adorable together! Please?" Amber begs Mick to go along with the plan.
"Fine, Ambs. I'll do it. But only because Fabian needs to step out with her, quick."
"Yay!"
Nina POV
"Nina, we're all playing Truth or Dare in the common room- care to join?" Fabian knocks on my door lightly and gives me his signature grin.
"I'm coming, I'm coming- let me finish this math problem, yeah?" He chuckles at that.
"You're starting to sound more and more like us every day, Nina, do you know that?" He grins and kneels down next to me, looking at the problem. "Nina, you divide instead of multiply here, and then you get the square root of x. So you just square both sides, so x equals seven squared, or forty nine."
I blush slightly. "Thanks. Alright, let's go."
"Oh, there you are, Stars- thought you might have hit your head again. Or have you been making out with Fabian in your room?" Jerome makes a kissing face at me, and I hit it with a pillow.
"Shut it, Clarke." Fabian's voice takes on that dark tone again, the one that said not to mess with him. Strangely enough, he only seems to use it when someone's joking about us.
"On that lovely note, let's start the game!" Alfie announces, and suddenly we're caught up in a whirlwind of chattering about what the rules were and what we could and could not do.
"Quiet! Okay, these are the rules. One, nothing gross like licking toenails." Amber glares at Alfie when she says it. "Two, no bothering Victor or Trudy. And, um, three, no revealing anything we shouldn't. Oh! And no kissing for longer than ten seconds- well, during the game, that is." She looks at Fabian and me, as if saying that we should run off and kiss. I blush deeply. "Now that that's taken care of… Patricia, you start!"
"Alrighty. Alfie, truth or dare?"
"Truth!"
"How long have you had a crush on Amber?"
"Hmmm… Two years, I guess." He blushes a bit, but only a bit- I mean, this is Alfie we were talking about, and he's not very subtle.
"Okay… Mara?" Alfie asks, looking mischievous.
"Oh no. Um, truth, I guess."
"If Jerome came up to you tomorrow and kissed you, what would you do?" Jerome glares at Alfie quickly, mouthing something I can't see.
"Nothing, I guess. I wouldn't kiss back, of course, but I wouldn't want to hurt his feelings." She shrugs. "Fabian?"
"…Date. I mean, um, dare." He's blushing again.
"Right. I dare you to get your guitar and serenade…"
"Nina!" Amber squeals, and I drop my head into my hands. Really?
"Okay, Nina." Mara smiles sweetly, but Fabian groans and goes to get his guitar.
"I don't understand what is so interesting about me and Nina that makes this house go insane." He mutters, but begins to strum the instrument beautifully. I giggle at his weird attempt to get me to dance and roll my eyes.
"Rutter, you're not doing it right. Watch." Jerome gets up and offers me his hand in a very cheesy, overdramatic way. I take it in the same way and he spins me around under his arm until I feel sick. "See? Now hand me the guitar." Fabian reluctantly hands over his precious possession and takes my hands awkwardly. Jerome begins to play, and Fabian spins me around a bit, letting me drop into his arms and really just enjoying a rather geeky form of dance. Jerome stops playing when our faces are very close, and hands him the guitar. "That's how you do it."
I'm blushing, hard, and I'm pretty sure Amber took a bajillion pictures, but as I sit down, Fabian shoots me a look that says 'Sorry.' I shrug. It was rather fun, and it wasn't as if anything had happened.
"Oh-kay, after that little fiasco… Amber? Truth or dare?"
"Oooh! Hmmm. Dare." Fabian thinks a bit, and a gleam sparkles in his eyes.
"I dare you to wear absolutely no dresses all week."
"Is this revenge for making you dance with Nina?" She sputters, staring at him.
"Slightly, yes. Now it's your turn." He smiles a bit, and then walks into his room to put his guitar away.
"Okay… Mick! Truth or dare?"
"Dare, obviously." He chuckles.
"I dare you to date Nina for a week. You have to take her on at least two real dates, alone, get comfortable with her, and you have to kiss her. Oh, and Nina, because someone was bound to ask you soon, I dare you to say yes to Mick. But you don't have to play anymore after that, if you don't want to." My mouth drops open. This is strange, even for Amber.
"Alright." He goes along with it without a fight, which is odd. "Nina, will you go out with me?" He's on his knees, grasping my hand.
"Yes, Mick, I will." He grins and sits where Fabian was earlier, still holding my hand- which does, in fact, feel very weird and very strange. I was never close to Mick, and this… erg. Why in the world was Amber making me date Mick, of all people? I thought she liked him! And then I realized who had walked into the room when Mick had asked.
Fabian, who had also just run out of the room, looking very upset. "Oh no." I whisper. "He doesn't know it was a dare…."
The game continues, but my mind is on Fabian the entire time. "Talk to him tonight, will you?" I ask as I lean against Mick and Fabian's door.
"Of course, babes." Mick winks and I giggle a bit. He kisses my forehead and slips into his room as I walk upstairs.
Breakfast that morning seems rather normal- everyone knows it was just a dare when Mick comes in, takes my hand, and kisses me. "Good morning babe." He flashes a smile in my direction and sits in Fabian's usual seat.
"Good morning!" I put false cheeriness into my words and glare at Amber. Jerome and Patricia stifle laughs as Mick drapes his arm over my shoulders. "You're real strange, you know that, Campbell? Going for Stars when everyone knows Rutter's after her." I stick my tongue out at Jerome, having nothing else to do.
"Nina? Um… Could I talk to you?" Fabian stands awkwardly in the doorway, looking at Mick's arm around me.
"Yeah, of course." Mick stands up with me, but sits down when Fabian looks at him and leads me into the hall.
"What are you doing with him, Nina? Mick's not a bad guy- he's a great roommate- but I really didn't think you went for guys like him." Oh gosh, I thought Mick had talked to him. I start sweating slightly, and it isn't because the heat was up on high.
"Oh, dearies- it's sweltering in here, let me turn it down!" Trudy turns it down quickly, and cold air blasts me, sending goosebumps down my arms and legs. Fabian sighs, and pulls off his blue plaid jacket, wrapping it gently around me and warming me instantly.
"Th-thanks." I shiver a bit, and he looks down at his shoes.
"What are you doing with him?"
"Look, Fabian- while you were gone, putting up your guitar, Amber dared Mick. He had to-" All of a sudden, Amber yanks me by my hair to the front door, dragging Mick along with her.
"Both of you, walk to school together!" She says, pushing us out the door, his jacket still around my arms.
"Fabian!" I call, and he jogs out, looking more broken than I've ever seen him. "Amber dared Mick to-"
"Fabian! Get inside! You're going to catch a cold if you stand out there in just your t-shirt and shorts. Get inside, sweetie, it's not cold yet!" Trudy almost yanks him back in, and I feel guilt pooling in my chest.
"I thought you talked to him, Mick." I say, looking down at my feet as it begins to rain, and I'm thankful for Fabian's warm jacket over my school uniform.
"I did. Nina- I'm being completely serious when I say this- I think his feelings for you are so many and so strong that it wouldn't matter what I told him. He'd still be jealous."
I blush deeply, and he turns and looks at me, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. "Nina, he loves you. Now, how about you come to my room tonight, for our 'first date', and you can talk to him instead? Amber doesn't have to know." He whispers, taking my hand as we walk into the school.
"I'd like that. Thanks, Mick." He grins.
"Hey, it's the best I can do, as your new boyfriend." He kisses my forehead, spins me around once under his arm, and heads off to the gym. I walk into English, and Fabian's sitting there, wet hair plastered to his forehead, shivering and coughing.
"Oh no…"
"Hello babes." Mick greets me in the hallway, his eyes shimmering. "Ready for our date? We're in my room, and Amber's making sure no one enters." He winks, and I know he means "no one except Fabian".
"Yeah, let me go get changed." I walk upstairs to my room, Fabian's jacket still wrapped around me in the cold house.
"Nina Martin, why are you wearing Fabian's jacket? You're dating Mick! Not that it's not adorable, but…" She sighs. "Oh, just go off to your date!"
I walk downstairs shyly, wearing a deep green dress. Its high cut and falls a bit below my knees, with a simple black design and Fabian's jacket across my arm. I see Fabian's eyes widen from the kitchen, and then he coughs. "You look wonderful." Mick surprises me and leads me into his room, but we immediately drop the act once we're there. I pull on Fabian's jacket, as it's now freezing instead of sweltering, and Mick just laughs. "This whole thing is screwed up. Dating my roommate's…" He trails off and sits us down at a small table, where dinner is set out.
"Wow, Mick. You really are quite the romantic." He chuckles. I'm blushing when I hear loud, hacking coughs from outside.
"Amber, please, just let me in. I don't feel well. I just want to rest!" Fabian's voice cracks and he starts coughing again, my heart breaking with his voice.
"Mick, Nina, can I let Fabian in? He looks ill." Amber pokes her head through the door, and I can see Fabian shivering in the background. I nod instantly.
"Let him in, Amber. He's sick." Fabian stumbles through the doorframe, and Mick and I instantly catch him.
"Come on Fabian. To bed you go." He falls onto the bed, coughing, and I drop next to him.
"Fabian Rutter, what happened to you?" I whisper, ignoring the dinner on the table and Mick and pulling his blankets up to cover him.
"I," he coughed harshly, "I followed you. In the rain. In my pajamas. And then it was cold here." was all he could get out before he started coughing again.
"Shhh. Here." I pulled his jacket off from my arm and wrapped it around him, zipping it up and stopping his shivering slightly. "You're burning up, Fabian. Mick- go get Trudy. Now!" He hurries out of the room, and I sigh. "Fabian, you should have stayed to listen to me. When you went to put your guitar away, Amber dared Mick to go out with me for a week, and me to say yes. I didn't do it willingly." I flush red. Why was I telling him this? He didn't care. It's not like me to be this… touchy either. Then again, he is sick. "Fabian, are you comfortable?" I asked, leaving a hand on his forehead and reaching for the other one.
"Yeah." He coughs out, smiling slightly.
"Why are you smiling, silly? You're ill, burning up, and probably sentenced to bed rest for a week."
"You look beautiful." He coughs again.
My face flushes bright red, and he gasps. "Nina, please don't tell me you're getting sick too." His voice fades, and I push his wet hair out of his face. It's been raining all day, which is probably why he's as sick as he is.
"I'm fine. Just… worried." I cough slightly, and his eyes soften.
"Come here." He presses a hand to my forehead, then moves it to my cheek, sending my heart racing. "Nina, you feel warm. And that's coming from me." Mick walks back in and shrugs.
"Well, that was one date over with." I shrug and go back to Fabian, who's coughing again.
"Lovely, you've got the flu. No school for you for a while." Trudy says, pulling the thermometer out.
"Check Nina." He moans, and I brush back his hair again. Trudy looks confused, but sanitizes the thermometer and slips it in my mouth.
"She's fine, Fabian; don't worry." He sighs visibly, and I feel like I'm about to cry.
"Sleep, Fabian- this is all my fault." And before he can protest, I slip out the door.
"They're planning a what?" I ask, then start coughing. Mick's arm comes around my shoulders, still alien.
"A Yay-You're-Better party or something. Amber's idea. Apparently, as a couple, we have to go." I still laugh at that.
"I hope she realizes that I'm spending more time with my boyfriend's roommate than my boyfriend." He rolls his eyes.
"I think that was her intentions. If she didn't care so much, I would have said that she caused it to rain so much so you could take care of Fabian. Now come on- we're going to miss the party."
"Fabian?" The moment I'm inside, I'm also in his room, by his bedside. "Are you feeling any better? At all?" He's got an ice pack as well as a warm towel, and cough drops, but I can hear the cracks in his voice.
"Mainly. My voice just hurts." He whispers, but he does look better. His face is less flushed and his fever seems down.
"Okay." I try to smile, but my best friend is ill- what do you expect? Trudy comes in to check up on him, deeming him- technically- healthy. Fabian attempts to stand up, putting his hands on my shoulders and stumbling a bit, but better than normal.
"Fabian, are you up to eating?" I ask as he wraps an arm around my shoulders. Mick pulls me close.
"Stay off my girlfriend, Rutter." His tone is joking, but the way Fabian glares at him makes him instantly shut up.
"Fabian!" Amber tries to hug him, but I shake my head.
"Amber, he's not up to it. Do you want me to bring you something, Fabian?" He collapses onto the couch and I sit next to him. Mick sighs and brings each of us a plate of food, but after a look from Amber, puts an arm around me. Eventually, we're all in the common room, watching some movie (apparently this happens once a week, but I didn't know because of Sibuna). Mick's arm is awkwardly around my shoulder, Fabian's head is in my lap, and I'm holding hands with both of them.
"Okay, Mick, the dare is up! You don't have to kiss Nina or date her anymore! Fabian's sick- it doesn't count anymore! I tried to tell you earlier, but you were too worried." She turns to me as she says it, and I look down. I barely remember. "I forgive you, of course. Now just make Fabian feel better." Mick gets off the couch and goes to get more food while I blush.
"Nina… you're warm again." Fabian murmurs with a cough.
"Fabian Rutter, be quiet and rest." I mumble, blushing even more. He sighs, but after a while, I hear him whisper one last thing.
"You still look beautiful."
A/N: Okay, somehow Mick/Nina turned into Fabina. I don't know how. Please don't blame me; it was all Amber's plan, right? Heh… Yeah, so, no Mick/Nina kiss, sorry. I got writer's block, and this was long, and plus, no kissing your best friend's roommate when he has the flu. I mean, duh. xD
So, um, review? Please? I really want to know how this went over, especially if I stayed in character. :)
