Twenty-fourth of December, 9:45 pm.
"Merry Christmas, Mr. Johnson." Allen beamed at the owner of the grocery store he was working right at that moment.
Mr. Johnson returned his own mirthful smile and nodded. "Merry Christmas to you too, Allen and thank you for your hard work today. However, it's getting late, so you should head home now." The gray-haired old man in his mid-fifties kindly stated while casually making his way on the cashier booth to take his left position.
"It's no problem, I was just doing my work." he replied with glee, snatching his coat on the holder and shoved it on to cloak his body against the cold outside. "I'll take my leave, then." Allen yelled joyfully and ran his way towards to the exit. He was excited to go home.
Upon opening the transparent glass-door, Allen quickly recognized the cool breeze of the winter season. It was freezing cold. Snow-covered paved marked his footsteps while the twinkling brittle of Christmas-lights doing its on and off deed coming from the front door of the shop simply lighted the area as he trudged the single pathway towards the road.
The white-haired guy hummed a toneless tone softly, to relax his nerves. Cautiously, he pulled the black coat over his freezing body before putting his gloved hands on both pocket.
"Oi, Moyashi!"
A stern voice that called a very familiar nick name had made the small figure male halted on his mid-step. He whirled towards the direction of the noise to which he then found the dark-haired boyfriend of his, leaning against the cold concrete wall of the shop and looking at him stoically.
With a bewildered frown, Allen spat. "Yuu?"
Kanda Yuu, his five year long lover, squared his body from slouching to walk towards him. His straight, long hair was covered by a beret and tangled in pony-tail behind him, swaying slightly according to his movements.
"Who else do you think, you idiot?" Kanda grunted when he was beside the shorter guy, but without the usual tone of malice.
Allen's frown deepened, lips tweaked on left side in slight irritation by the name calling. "I know, you bastard but..," he coughed slightly and then continued, "What are you doing here?" Now, that Kanda was near, Allen had the need to look up and it kind of frustrates him. Why the hell his boyfriend had grown so tall?
"Waiting for you." the other remarked quite seriously. Taking his cotton, green scarf off, he then twirled it around Allen's fair neck which surprised the albino male a little and yelped quietly. He followed his cap, placing it over Allen's head.
"Exactly." he was doing a great job not to roll his eyes and annoy the taller male. "But why are you here since we obviously can meet at the apartment? What made you?" Allen inquired; silver eyes stared at the seemingly tired dark-blue ones.
Kanda yawned for a second. "Just wanted to pick you. Is there a problem with that?" he asked gruffly, glancing down at Allen.
"No, but-."
"Che. It's okay, then let's go." Kanda cut him and started walking to the bus stop several meters away from where they stood.
"Well, I'm glad you came but my work was two bus rides away from yours so the need to come here was rather...irrelevant. We need the money Yuu and it seems to me that you're tired." Allen explained softly.
Kanda ceased walking to look at the smaller guy, his face wearing a deep scowl. Two piercing blue-eyes glared at him furiously with clear displeasure evident on them. "Fine then, I won't pick you next time." Kanda harshly growled then started to stalk off again, dragging his heavy feet and leaving his boyfriend behind.
"Yuu it's not like that." he ran to Kanda, frustrated to the turned of events. He doesn't want them to fight on his birthday since a few hours from now he will be twenty.
It wasn't supposed to turn out this way. It wasn't the first time Kanda had picked him over his work, and he liked it whenever he did, mind you. But this time their job was deliberately far from each other, thus the thought of disturbing his boyfriend didn't even pass Allen's mind. Other than that, the need to save money for some financial was crucial. Both orphans like them had no family to rely on for that department and so it was evident that they had to work to live. Allen and Kanda took several part time jobs to support their studies and everyday necessities, taking two at a time. However, holidays had quickly and thankfully arrived so both decided to add their limited jobs. As for now, Allen has three jobs while Kanda got four. Therefore, the white-haired guy doesn't want to tire him more just for the sake of picking him.
Kanda didn't stop despite Allen's exasperated calls of his name. This time though, he held the taller male's arm to force him to do so.
"What now?" Kanda spat indignantly. His fringes were like a dull curtain over his stern eyes, looking utterly livid.
The smaller guy drew a deep, long breath, took the cap to see the other's face clearly before responding. "Alright, I'm sorry but I didn't mean it that way." he stared straight to the male. "What I was trying to say is that, it would be much better for you to head home directly and take some rest rather than coming here looking awfully dead from exhaustion."
Allen bit his lips for a slight pause and preceded his explanation when Kanda doesn't seem to reply. "Plus Yuu, you are about to graduate months from now and literally we need the money for some financial subject that may occur in due time." he ended in rather serious and determine tone.
Kanda said nothing after that, hence, the silence ensues for a long moment between them.
The taller male stilled his glare unyielding at the other boy who despite the chilling intent of the deep blue eyes continued to meet it with his own sincere and yet compassionate ones, which he usually uses when he wanted something from Kanda; although, it appears to be effective many times, there were still seldom occasions that it could be labelled as acutely low as futile since Kanda would either disregard it or ignore him. And he prayed to God it wasn't one of latter.
"Yuu, well, sorry, I know I sounded like being inconsiderate but no, I really love it whenever you get me. Just that..." he tried to speak again but trailed off in the end, uncertain on what words to follow.
Another few seconds had flew by before a low growl came out of the dark-haired male's mouth. He blinked at Kanda once. Swiftly, a slender yet long fingers flicked his innocent forehead.
"You stupid." Kanda grumbled in fake remorse, though he obviously wasn't angry anymore.
"Ouch." he threw a nasty glare at Kanda. "That hurts." he nursed his abused forehead, but a small smile crept up in his lips until it formed into a big grin.
"Now shut up and let your lazy ass start walking!" Kanda grunted in response.
Allen put the cap back and walked side by side with his lover. Tenderly, gloved fingers of Kanda reached out for Allen's small ones and entwined it. The white-haired guy glanced up at the taller male surprised at the sudden gentle gesture, but Kanda didn't look back. Normally, Kanda wouldn't want to be intimate outside their apartment even the holding of hands were forbidden so, what change? But he wasn't complaining, not at all. Actually he loved it and wanted to cherish every bit of it. So, he slowly tightened Kanda's hand against him and faced forward. Allen didn't do any comment to the tint of blush adorning Kanda's cheeks (and could possibly ruin the serene atmosphere) since he wasn't sure if it was due to the cold or embarrassment. And as long as they stayed like that for a while, it was enough for him.
A comfortable silence passed between them as they made their way to the bus stop. As their designated number for the vehicle arrived, they boarded quickly and quietly positioned on the two seated coach for them to sit beside each other's warmth.
Allen's vein popped out in annoyance after hearing a yawn from his companion. He knew he wasn't doing a great job of ignoring his hard-headed lover who was currently chopping the vegetables for tonight's dinner. He was getting pissed in each time he would hear BaKanda's yawning behind him. The bastard was obviously tired and yet he still stubbornly disregarded Allen's order of taking some sleep in their bedroom instead of helping him cooking. Another yawn from him and he would eventually explode. And he wasn't disappointed; one long sleepy breath drew out of Kanda's mouth for the nth time since they arrived on their home. The albino male stopped his stirring and indignantly faced his boyfriend with an angry scowl.
"I told you Yuu I can do this on my own. So go to the room and take a nap. I'll wake you when eleven strikes." Allen says in his reproachful voice.
Kanda didn't look up from his task and replied drily. "Tsk...Shuddup moyashi. I'm almost done with this." he said in his usual piercing tone but his anxiety was vaguely hinted on his voice. "Be thankful I'm helping you."
"Yuu..." he said warningly as if threatening a child.
"Che..." was the curt remarked. "Don't order me around dimwit." he replied dully.
"Bakanda you jerk! Was it wrong to be thoughtful?" he fused towards his inconsiderate boyfriend and then faced his left task at hand.
"Whatever." Kanda said in response, doing his best to refute the incoming yawn. He just wanted to help his lover for him to finish faster but Allen was being a moron. Just like him he was just being thoughtful. This idiot.
"I'm outta here." he grumbled. But maybe he really needed a few sleep since his eyes seems very hard to stay open in every minute pass. Walking outside while yawning, he settled on their living room instead of their bedroom. Beside the black couch situated a white Christmas tree. Just after his head and back met the soft cushion, his mind instantly drifted to the land of sleep.
Later that night, an eerie silence awakened the brunette on his makeshift bed. It was so quiet that he himself didn't know what occurred. But it wasn't uncomfortable. Decisively, he idly propped his body up in a sitting position and sought for his lover. If not from the on-off twinkling lights of the standing white Christmas tree and the lights that passed through the window, the room would probably be in complete darkness. Sighing, he stood up and gathered his thoughts. Inspecting the time on the small desk in the left corner, his face wrinkled in a frown. Why the heck that idiot didn't wake him? It's already past one.
He stomped his foot to the cold concrete of their apartment. When he was about to enter the kitchen, he then noticed his white-haired boyfriend settled in front of the window, his back facing him and head leaned on the glass. Softly, Kanda went to him and slowly encircled his long arms around Allen's slender middle section.
Startled, Allen flinched against his hold but relax quickly upon recognizing the musky scent of Kanda.
"Oi, you said you'll wake me." Kanda's breath tickles on Allen's neck and patted a gentle kisses on it.
The smaller male wanted to look up but cannot since the brunette tightened his hold.
"Eh? You looks so pretty when you were sleeping and I couldn't-."
"Quit it, moyashi." Kanda interrupted hearing the amusing tone of his lover.
Allen chuckled. "Hmmm. Let's go to the kitchen and eat." Allen managed to turn around and faced his boyfriend, smiling sweetly.
"You should've wake me, you idiot." he grated, flicking Allen's forehead.
"Psshh... Why do you love doing that?" Allen pouted, touching his abused forehead.
"Tsk."
Kanda then leaned down to kiss his forehead lovingly, mending it before going to capture Allen's lips to silence him. Before long, he pulled away and murmured softly against his lips, breath mingling on each other.
"Happy birthday, moyashi."
The raven then pulled Allen to the dining area before the other could respond. Nevertheless, Allen still plastered a smile even though Kanda couldn't see it and answered.
"Thank you. So where's my gift?"
"Nothing." Kanda replied, not turning around.
"How cruel." he whined but didn't duel on it really, letting himself be pulled.
"Yeah."
And Allen doesn't care, at all, whether his lover would give him anything or not. As long as he's with him everything was perfect. The perfect was his presence. Allen smiled softly in secret.
On the other hand, Kanda had one in his head and later he would give it, but for now they'd better eat. He smirked.
eh? What was that? I want to puke I don't like the ending. Lol! Actually I planned to update my other fic for this Christmas but kyaaaahhhh! Baby Beel and Furuichi-kun kept me distracted. Yep they did a great job. So I made this quicky shot for Allen's birthday. So spare the weirdness and craziness. It's a total crap, I know…but oh well, Whatever…. I'll try to update in new year but I'm not sure really. Let's see.
Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone
