Chapter Three: Color Them Green
Disclaimer: I don't own Homestuck.
Summary: Friends keep secrets, John knows that. But keeping secrets about the end of the world? There has to be a rule about that. There really isn't much good news for him: the world is breaking apart, his dad died, he got himself into this freaky new world of weird looking aliens full of their weird customs and traditions... And now they have to repopulate the human race. Wait, what?
Warnings: kids being kids...again. Hella slow romance build up. Still don't know who to pair up. I'm open to anything... So anything might happen?!
Thank you intrigued for reviewing ily
There's this unmasked silence as you walk around aimless in this weird building, or house you assume it is. The air is thick and you don't know why, and, like a well trained friend, you don't ask. None of you like being asked things personal and usually no one ever replies. Usually... because you guys are online friends and you never go over and visit their houses. So they can't use force like more connected friends could. All you could do was see what they wrote from their screen - never had any one of you guys done skype or anything like that; you wanted to make your first experience meeting each other... it was, in a way, but it is not like you are complaining or anything like that. No, never.
"This looks like my old house," Jade says quietly, devoid of the normally eccentric emotion she wears.
"Really?" You ask stupidly.
"Yeah, it does. Exactly like it. All except the colors. And it's a little more... Jungle-y?" She leads the way through a patch of stairs as she glances around the decorations.
"Maybe this is your house. From the future..?" You shrug, guessing. Feeling a little nervous, you try to look away from her. That really is impossible in the situation that your in, but you just deal with it.
A few hours ago your nose lead the way over to this... interesting building. It's twelve stories high and ever since you guys had the home in your immediate eyesight, Jade has been acting odd. It wasn't noticeable at the start, but after you guys ate and decided to split up in pairs, you are seeing it very clear. If her strangeness of this house was compared before and then afterwards, it would be a lake compared to the ocean - it's there but then it's there... More? You have no idea where you were going with this; this isn't your strong point. It was Dave's.
You skim through the various decorations on and in the long stairway. They are all different; there isn't a theme. But it fits Jade really well; you can't help to imagine her living here previously.A chill runs down you as escapes the stairs and speak.
"Over there is the bathroom, and these three doors across are indoors garden. To the left, there are sewing rooms. I know this place, John. I know it."
You don't know what to say so you let your mouth run. You let it run wildly, and, before you know it, you have her smiling and laughing about a joke you can no longer recall. You chase after her as she runs away from your apparent stupidity, yelling out puns and unintelligent sayings that make the mood better. It's not like you wanted to cover up her sadness or anything of the sorts. All you really wanted was to make her feel better and remembering the past wasn't making her happy.
Jade is like a sister to you, a little sister. Although she is older than you, and although she is more responsible and mature, you can't help but to imagine that she is your younger sister. You never told her, though, because that would sound creepy. Gosh, every time you think about it the thought creeps you out. JADE, Jade as your sister? What are you thinking!
You try to catch up to her, but she is far too fast. "Jade!" You call out to her shadow, "Don't go that far! I was only playing!" But by now, you are sure that your voice is not reaching her.
Sighing, you stop running. Out of breath, you try to calm your heart. Jade is so athletic and you're... Well you guys you are pretty flexible and wiry but you are no where near her level. She lived in an abandoned island so of course she would be more in shape! She didn't have any cars; she had to use her feet. There weren't any roads or pre-maid paths; she had to go through layers of nature by herself. By herself. You turn yourself, going into a circle, and look around you. A thought sinks into you: Jade has been living in a house like this in the middle of who knows what for most of her life.
Wow.
You decide to continue walking, looking around. By a few more hours, you have no idea where you are at. Not like it matters, though, because you are enjoying yourself. Like a creep, you pick up random objects and observe them. Then you put them back where you find them - you watched too many movies to know that taking other's shit in an adventure brings corny explosions.
Out of the corner of your eye, you see a green shadow run. You are in a wide, spacious room filled everywhere, but still you vividly see the outline of the person and their color.
"Jade?" You ask, unsure. "Are you here?"
Something rattles and then you jump. Someone is most definitely here. The questions is this: just who is it? Feeling a little scared, you put the random object down and crotch on the ground. You hear hushed whispering and you know that it isn't Jade - the voice is too deep. Closing your eyes, hope flees you quickly. Your stomach feels empty, your head is pounding and your eyes are burning. You lose your grip on gravitation, letting it pull you further down.
Even through your eyes are closed, you know the green shadowed person is still inside of the room.
Bright, bright, everything is too bright. Moving your hands over to your eyes, you feel that they are restricted. Panis then arises inside of your heart as possibilities run through your head. Someone lightly taps you.
"It's alright, John," The voice is soft. Very soft. You want to grab it -
Another tap.
Who the hell is tapping you?
Opening your eyes slightly, you see Rose above you. She looks concerned, very concerned. And then you realize your hand is out touching her face, fingers curling on her cheekbone. She's so beautiful, you think silently. You watch as her facial expression changes into a small smile. Not moving your hand from her you stare into her purple eyes. They're so pretty, you think, subconsciously moving your palm closer towards her eyes.
Her breath hitches and you notice. Is she scared? You pull away your hand.
"'M Sorry," You say full heartedly. She shakes her head and then gets up.
You try to get up, too. But then you realize that you can't and that was the reason why you opened up your eyes. Searching for the reasons of your conflict, you look up and see.. Goo? Wait, what?
"I don't know what it is. Neither does Dave or Jade." Rose mutters softly as she grabbed a nearby book. "Dave is trying to get information, but it seems like... His powers have been not helpful lately."
"What do you mean?" You ask, trying to move.
"He can't go back or forth through time. He can only stop it or pause it." She looks at your expression and then sighs. "He can control time, remember?"
"This is all a big concept for me to wrap my head around, Rose," You whisper, trying to defend yourself.
She rolls her eyes at you and then walks over, sitting down on a chair near your face. She opens the book and dust comes out, classic. She skims through each of the words and pictures, reading too fast for you to catch up. You let out a frustrated groan as he drop yourself into... The bed? Looking around the room, you find out that you are now in a bedroom. Wait, what?
"Are you having withdraws on an emotional level? If you, I am here for you, John." Throughout the years of knowing Rose, you have learned when she was trying to be helpful and when she was being an ass. As of right now, she was being an ass, and even though people sing about anacondas not wanting some unless there are buns present, you would rather have then wiggle into completely understandable kindness and helpfulness.
"Oh, babe," You playfully say, "If I was having an emotional breakdown, it would because I'll be emotionally withdrawn from you."
"Oh swoon." She rolls your eyes, not getting the joke. Frankly, you don't even think that was a joke. More like being sarcastic and saying shit you don't know? Yeah, sounds like it.
"That was a horrible comeback, John." A new voice says, entering the room.
"So is your dick!" You childishly spit out.
Rose muffles a laugh as her face falls onto her knees as Dave, keeping his stoic face, walks slowly over to you.. She shakes a little and you hear a giggle escape once or twice, but when Dave is close enough she gains control of herself again, sitting up.
"How do you know about Dave's dingy wingy, though?" Another new voice chirps happily. It's Jade - she comes in hesitantly and on guard. She also strides over to you. Sticking out your tongue to her, you roll your eyes in an exaggerated manner. Jade giggles. When she comes in, you fail to notice another shade of green lurking by.
"Is anyone going to explain what this substance is? Or why I am trapped in it... and stuff?" You ask genuinely, trying to change the subject about Dave's unmentionables.
"That was such a great scientific vocabulary you got there, my little Doctor." Dave laughs as he sits on your legs, avoiding touching the goo that was on your hands and on the bedpost. You try to kick him off but he holds them down.
"Be nice, children!" Jade says with a straight face, one hand on her hip and one hand pointing at you and Dave as she slightly leans in. When Dave wiggles his eyebrow, Jade loses it. Rose loses it too, but for different reasons.
Sighing, you look at them like they're all crazy. But that's the way you like it so you don't really judge.
You cough obnoxiously over their chatter and state, "If you guys won't explain, then I will. This," You eye the goo on your hands, "Is something very important…. You know who we gotta call?" You raise an eyebrow at your friends as a smirk crosses your face. They shake their head, knowing you all to well as you hoarsely say,
Ghostbusters.
