SCP-453 XO: The Curse of Class Three

Object Number: SCP- 453 XO

Object Class: Euclid

Containment Procedures: Since mid 1970s, the students of Class Three of Yomiyama Kita Middle School have discovered they can prevent any anomalous events by pretending one student in the classroom does not exist. The class is to be allowed to continue these efforts, covertly observed by Mobile Task Force Zeta-4 AKA "The Teaching Assistants". Should an instance of SCP-453-XO occur, MTF personnel are search public records of students, teachers, and other persons associated with Class Three, such as birth certificates, death records, etc, for any anomalies in an attempt to identify SCP-453 XO-1. In event of severe instances of SCP-453 XO, suspected instances of SCP-453 XO-1 are to be terminated, preferably in a manner intended to make it appear that they are a victim of SCP-453-XO.

Description: SCP-453 XO is a phenomenon surrounding 8th grade Class 3 of Yomiyama Kita Middle School in Yomiyama, Japan since the year 1973. SCP-453-XO is believed by the students of Class Three to have been triggered by the death of a student named (REDACTED) suddenly died in 1972. After the student's death, the surviving students of Class Three acted as though (REDACTED) had never died, keeping his old desk in the room and insisting he was still sitting in the desk. The year after, the first instance of SCP-453-XO-1 manifested. SCP-453 XO-1 is a deceased individual who is reanimated through unknown means, typically someone associated with a member of the class, such as a family member. As long as SCP-453 XO-1 is present within the classroom, students and teachers in the classroom, as well as persons within two-degrees of relation- parents, grandparents, siblings, and cousins, will be killed one-by-one in apparent accidents and in at least on case, suicides. These deaths can be prevented by pretending one student in the classroom does not exist, refusing to speak to them or acknowledge anything they say or do. However, if the person chosen to be "non-existent" is acknowledged by anyone in the class, the deaths will continue. SCP-453-XO can also be stopped for the entire year if the instance of SCP-453-XO-1 is terminated. If SCP-453-XO-1 is terminated, the body will cease to exist within twelve hours of the incident. Over a longer timeframe, persons associated with SCP-453 XO-1 will lose memories of the individual, and documents and audio records containing their name will be likewise redacted.

On two occasions, SCP-453 XO has resulted in more than five deaths in one year. In both cases, Mobile Task Forces were unable to respond before SCP-453-XO-1 was successfully terminated by other means. The first incident in 1983 involved the deaths of six students, including two on a class field trip to a mountaintop shrine, one on struck by lightning and the other falling to their death. Shortly afterwards, the instance of SCP-453 XO-1 was terminated in an accident. In 1998, a larger incident was triggered when transfer student (REDACTED) acknowledged the presence of a "non-existent student". This resulted in the deaths of 21 people, including students, the teacher, and relatives. The incident was finally ended when students (REDACTED) and (REDACTED) discovered a tape recording of a survivor of the SCP-453-XO instance of 1983. (REDACTED) discovered the identity of SCP-453-XO-1, and terminated them.
