Chapter 3

Making Up

Toushiro slammed the bag on the desk in frustration before plopping down on his bed. His mind wandered to his and Momo's relationship, how they had not talked with each other for a week and how their relationship had spiralled downward just because of a girl. If this continued, he would probably have gone crazy because he missed talking to Momo so much.

He glanced at the clock. It was still evening, and tomorrow was Friday. He had enough with the cold war between them. He needed to confront Momo today, at any cost.

About Karin, his friends had offered him help to protect Momo in case Karin went nuts and threatened or hurt Momo. He had accepted, because he might not be available beside her 24/7 and having someone else to watch over her made him assured.

Toushiro huffed and climbed down from his bed. He would make everything right today. He had to.

Ten minutes later, he found himself ringing the doorbell at Momo's house. He could hear a faint 'wait a minute' from inside of the house and the sound of footsteps before someone opened the door, and Momo's face appeared.

Momo was shocked when she opened the door and found the boy she had been thinking of standing in front of her, frowning.

"To- Toushiro?" She asked uncertainly, eyeing the boy, "What… are you doing here?"

Toushiro exhaled deeply and stared at her, "I miss you."

Momo felt her eyes watered at the soft tone Toushiro used to utter those three words. Without saying anything, she spread her arms and hugged Toushiro. The boy stiffened at the unexpected contact at first, before relaxing and gingerly hugged her back, choosing not to comment at the wet feeling on his shoulder and the soft sobs.

"There, there, bed wetter Momo." He patted her head, "So we're good?"

He felt Momo nodded, "I miss you too, Shiro-chan."

No explanations or words were needed between the two of them because they were friends even before the romantic feeling developed. And Momo thought, Toushiro would tell her the truth whether he's dating Karin or not eventually, so she should just enjoy this moment with him.

After Toushiro greeted Momo's mom who was cooking in the kitchen, they went to sit in the living room. Momo suggested them to watch some movies, and they were currently discussing which movie should they watch.

"Hey, Shiro-chan, what do you want to watch?"

Toushiro bit his lips, thinking, "Whatever you want."

"Hmm…" Momo went back looking at her DVD collection and finally pulled one out, "How about Avengers? I haven't watched that."

Toushiro quickly agreed and after Momo put the disc into the player, they searched for a comfortable position on the couch while the movie started playing. Toushiro, who had watched it with Ichigo and their friends before, didn't really pay attention to the movie. Instead, he found his attention focused to the girl besides him who was amusing herself by commenting on the movies and throwing gasps during the action parts.

Toushiro first noticed that Momo's eyes were red and she looked like she had not slept for days. Toushiro himself wasn't any better, and for some reason, the boy felt his heart warmed at the thought that Momo valued their friendship as important as he did.

"That was intense." Whispered the brunette while her eyes were still glued to the screen, "Is he going to die? I hope not…"

Toushiro smiled at the adorableness and decided to tease her, "He will be dead, anytime by now."

Momo pouted at him, "Toushiro, no spoiler! How do you know anyway?"

"I know things." He laughed, "Oh, I need to go to toilet."

He passed by the kitchen when he had been to the toilet and he saw Momo's mother was putting the eating utensils and plates on the dinner table. He quickly offered to help but Momo's mother just dismissed him and asked him to continue accompanying Momo instead.

"You know, Toushiro-kun." Her mother called him before he walked to the living room, "I'm glad you make up with her."

"I'm glad as well, Auntie." The boy responded, smiling as he remembered their hug in front of the door, "I hope we won't experience this kind of thing again."

"I hope you guys won't." Momo's mother smiled kindly, "She cried at night almost everyday, but we decided to be silent until she wanted to tell us what was happening. Then we realised you haven't visited us, and we figured you guys probably have a fight."

Toushiro gawked at that, "She cried… almost everyday?"

"Yes, her eyes were red every morning."

He clenched his fists, "I'm sorry. If I can make up with her sooner she wouldn't have to experience this…. It's my fault.."

"Look, Toushiro-kun." Momo's mother looked at him with a stern look, "I don't know what has happened, but I don't think it's your fault. You have the same exhausted face she has, why would I blame you?"

"B- but-"

"I don't want to pry for details, but I hope this won't happen again. Can you promise me that?"

"…..Promise is such a strong word, Auntie." Toushiro said, "I don't want to promise anything, but I will make sure to make it right every time she's hurt. That I can do."

Momo's mother's smile got wider, "That is good enough for me."

When Toushiro came back to the living room, he found Momo had dazed off and her head tilted to the side uncomfortably. He quickly decided to lay her on the couch instead, but her eyes fluttered open when Toushiro touched her head.

"Where were you?" Momo rubbed her eyes.

"I was talking with your mom a while ago. Why didn't you continue watching?" He eyed the frozen scene on the TV.

"I thought I should have waited for you so we can continue together, but you're taking longer than expected and I just got sleepy… and I slept." She laughed, "Let's continue to watch!"

"No." Toushiro grabbed her hand that was holding the remote, "Let's just take a nap since you seem sleepy."

"You don't want to watch?"

"We can do it later." Toushiro gently turned off the TV, "Let's just sleep. I'm sleepy as well, might as well sleep here since I haven't visited your house since a week ago."

"It's your fault for being afraid to visit me. I don't bite, you know."

Toushiro stared at her disbelievingly, "No, you don't, but you're scary and you avoid me like a plague at school."

Momo laughed nervously and fiddled with her fingers, "Because I'm not used to see you dating someone! I feel like, you're changing… Like that…"

"I won't." The boy said with no hint of hesitation, "I'm not dating Karin, or anybody in that matter, and I'll be your Shiro-chan like you're bed wetter Momo, okay?"

Hearing the words that he was not dating Karin, Momo felt a burden had been lifted off from her shoulder. She couldn't help but to hold his hand and put her head on his shoulder.

"Let's sleep like this, then." She exclaimed happily.

"Ugh, no, you're heavy, bed wetter Momo."

Momo pouted, "Let's forget about that fact that I wetted my bed, shall we? I was six years old at that time, six!"

"I stopped when I was four or five years old." He replied smugly, "You're just annoyed because my growth was quicker than you!"

"Oh, please." Momo retorted after sticking her tongue out at him, "You're shorter than me by a few inches! You don't have rights to call me bed wetter, Shiro-chan!"

Toushiro twitched, "But I'm more mature than you!"

"No, I am!"

"What are you saying, bed wetter Momo? You still cried over some films, way to be mature!"

"You're a heartless person!"

The bickering continued until they were both tired, and when Momo's mother called them for dinner a while later, she found an adorable image of them sleeping together; Momo's head was on Toushiro's lap while the latter was sleeping with his mouth open, both dozing off without a care of the world.
