One year later

"Jonas?" Sophie said, peering into his room. Jonas woke up, shivering.

"Ya?" he asked, groggily. Sophie visibly relaxed.

" Good, you are awake. You were thrashing around in your sleep. It's time to get up. "

"Is Gabe up?" Jonas asked, sitting up.

"Yes, him and Mom and Dad are eating breakfast. You better hurry up, the school bus is coming in an hour. "

Ann and John Smith, and their daughter Sophie took him and Gabriel that freezing cold night. They cared for them while he was sick. And just a couple months ago, they had given him a permanent home, a last name, and a wonderful sister. They had signed the adoption papers and helped Jonas feel at home. He had real friends, a real home, and real grandparents. He made his birthday June 16. They had a wonderful birthday party when he turned 13. This year he turned 14. Gabe turned 4 this year on October 27. He had everything he wanted. Jonas started to walk out of the room for breakfast. Then he stopped. Elsewhere wasn't perfect. .On the bright side, you could lie without getting in trouble, you could say I'm starving, when you're not. You could love. But you could also get hurt. You could be teased. He decided that nobody is perfect, no matter how hard they tried. His Community had to learn it the hard way. Jonas looked out of his window. It was sunny today. For a brief moment he missed Lily, Fiona, Asher, the Giver, & all the other people from his community. With a shake of his head, he turned and walked out of the room, just as he had walked out of his previous home, the land he lost forever.

The End
