Ash sat down at the base of a tree.

Riolu jumped down off of the top of his hat. Ash checked his Pokédex, looking for any Pokémon that Professor Oak or any other trainer might not caught in the area. Besides the evolved form of a few common Pokémon, none had been missed.

But there was quite a few spots missing after number twenty two in the listings…

"Damn it! He never told me how he numbered these…" He swore to himself.

He put the Pokédex away in his backpack, thinking of other things.

Riolu was attempting to climb a tree, with no success. It kept sliding back down, unable to get a grip on it.

Ash suddenly sat up.

"I think its time we started training…"

Riolu tilted its head at him. "Ri?"

Ash picked the Riolu off of the ground from where it had slid off the tree. He picked up his bag in one arm and slung it over a shoulder, before looking around for a good, secluded spot to train. A few minutes of searching found a small field, a ways off the path.

Ash chose a rock, around the size of his head, and pointed to it.

"Try using your Force Palm on it."

Riolu nodded, and ran at the boulder. Its arms started glowing a bright blue, before slamming its palm into the rock, destroying it.

Or it would have, had the attack not fizzled out half ways before making it to the rock. Riolu had just ended up slamming its paw into a rock. Riolu blinked.

Ash sighed. "Looks like we need to work on this a bit…"

"Try using it near the boulder this time, Riolu."

"Ri!," Riolu managed to slam its palm into the rock before the attack stopped, cracking it, but not shattering it.

"Now again, with your other hand,"

This time, the rock shattered into pebbles.

"Alright...now try using your quick attack around the field."

Riolu suddenly ran forward, a bright white light (Try saying that five times fast) trailing behind it. Riolu made it around a quarter of a way around the field, before the attack gave out.

"Lets try Foresight now," Ash picked up a pebble from the shattered rock. "Use it on me and dodge."

Riolu's eyes turned red for a moment, before nodding. Ash threw the pebble, a little gently, and Riolu easily sidestepped it. Ash smiled.

"Perfect, nice job." Ash said, and Riolu cried happily.

"Now, lets see if we can't get your attacks up to par as well. Keep using your attacks until you can keep them up for longer."

Riolu nodded, a determined look on its face.

[Flashback]

"So, you also want me to keep an eye on the kid?"

"Yes, Reiki. I don't like the idea of him being out there alone, and if anything happened to him, his mother would be-"

"Its fine, Oak. I'll keep him safe for you. Kinda doubtful he'd want me along, though."

"I would prefer you stay hidden, I don't want him to feel like I've hired a babysitter to take care of him."

Reiki laughed on the Pokénav. "I get your reasoning. Though, I can't be certain he'll be ignorant of me for too long."

"Is it his Aura?"

"Exactly. He's a natural Aura user, not that he knows it. But I'd expect he'd sense me. Its hard to stay hidden from one another."

"Just as long as you make sure he's strong enough to take care of himself if you do get caught, just please be careful."

"Please, Gramps. This is me we're talking about."

"Exactly."

'So this is the kid he wanted me to watch? He's not bad for a beginner, I guess.'

Reiki sat in a tree, above where Ash was training Riolu on his moves.

'Still got a long way to go, but I guess I can keep looking out for him.'

Riolu tripped over himself while using Quick Attack in their training, while Ash picked it up and laughed a little.

'Its not like Lance or any other of the champions weren't rookies at the start. But it seems like he'd be the kind of kid who would attract trouble.'

Riolu ended up running into Ash during their Quick Attack training, tripping him.

'Eh, maybe it's just me...'

That night, after Riolu's training, he set up his sleeping bag. He also returned Riolu back into it's Pokéball, not that it'd notice as it was asleep.

As he laid in his bag, he thought about what he could do next for training Riolu. He had read about some "Macho Brace" item from a television at home. It supposedly made Pokémon work harder to move, strengthening them. They were also made by some kid, who had a whole tent or something full of Pokémon being trained.

Maybe he'd see if he could get one of those. He didn't have much money, and he'd probably have to save up for one, but it was possible.

He also thought about other Pokémon he wanted to catch. Well, he was going to catch as many as he could, but he wanted to think about the ones he'd train.

He didn't notice that he had started to drift off to sleep, to the sounds of the world around him.

He also didn't notice a teenager, sleeping in a tree not too far from his camp.

I am going to introduce a new thing, probably not done before, but who knows in the world of 80 thousand Pokémon stories? Move levels! And regular levels of course, but that's not new.

Riolu lvl 6

-Foresight lvl2

-Quick Attack lvl3

-Force Palm lvl2

The Move levels aren't going to be too important, but they judge how well a move can be used. Like force palm for example, Riolu couldn't go too far before the move fizzled out at level 1, but at level 2, he could manage to go a little farther. They will also judge how powerful it is, as say one force palm at level 1 could only crack a rock, but at level 2 it could break it.

All new moves will start at level 1, of course. And I may include this in Ash's Pokédex, at some point. Anyways, Reiki is my OC, as you can probably tell. I'll even include a short little bio for you guys.
