Chapter Two: Piecing the Puzzle
Proselyte Sidaros took huge breaths as he ran up the last flight of stairs. When he entered the holding room he saw Sir Varze and a couple of white knights, along with a man behind the cell door.
"Ah, Proselyte. Good of you to come. We have great news."
"Your...Knight...told me..." He said though deep breaths. Damn, am I really this unfit?
"Very good. We haven't talked to him yet. As a matter-in-fact, he just woke up not too long ago."
Sidaros walked up to the cell door and just saw the man just staring off into the distance. They took his armor and weapons. He only had his simple garments on.
"He isn't like other Kinshra we've detained. He's been surprisingly cooperative. No problems at all."
So maybe he can be talked to Sidaros said to himself.
"Has he said anything?"
"Nope. Wont answer any questions, doesn't react to anything in any way. He's just been staring off into space like that since he woke up."
"Any items on him that could indicate what happened?"
"Nothing out of the ordinary, other than a broken vial. He was the only man there breathing."
"How many was there?"
"23." The Kinshra knight responded monotone. Varze and Sidaros looked at him shocked.
"You do speak?" Varze asked. He didn't respond.
"If you answer our questions, we will let you go peacefully." Sidaros added. The man chuckled.
"Please. I don't believe that at all. However I'm willing to share information with you because I feel this threat is greater than petty political rivalries."
"Wow. He isn't your average Black Knight is he?" Varze said.
"My loyalties lie with the Kinshra. But what we are up against is an enemy far greater than we can fathom."
"I'm pleased to hear your compliance. But first, lets start with basic information." He motioned one of the White Knights to get quill and papyrus to note him.
"Your name?"
"Captain Sadon."
"Why were you in White Wolf Mountain?" He hesitated for a moment.
"You can't expect me to answer that." Sadon said eventually.
"Very well. I wont dwell on it, it's irrelevant now. Now.. Recite to me what happened, from what you can reaccount." Sidaros asked. Sadon took a deep breath, and began to reaccount the events that took place in the cave. {AN: Going to tell this from a 3rd person view back at the cave}
"What happened?" Darren asked as he knelt to the ground next to the fallen soldier. He was already pale, his eyes wide and his body rigid.
"We're not sure... He was talking about something that happened at Sinclair Mansion, then he just dropped to the ground." Sadon watched as Darren put his hand on his chest, then shook his head.
"He's dead." Darren said. Everyone went crazy. Sadon went to grab his bow against the wall, and when he did he turned around and saw Darren pull something from Brom's neck.
A dart...? Sadon thought to himself, Was this an act of betrayal?
"Sir!" Someone shouted, and Sadon turned to the entrance and saw two hooded figures standing at the mouth of the cave. Sadon went to grab an arrow from his quiver but realized it was by the fire.
"Who are you!" Darren shouted. There was no response.
"I cannot let you live for your actions, you scum! Prepare to die!" Darren shouted, and suddenly one of the hooded figures lifted his arms, and a thick white smoke protruded from his hands. Sadon, baffled by the sight, didn't react in time before he inhaled it. He could immediately feel his throat being constricted, and he dropped to the ground with his hands clutching his neck. His vision already began to blur, and knew it was a poison. He grabbed a small vial that he has strung around his neck and pulled it off, before gulping the contents. He could feel the constriction letting up but still felt his conciousness slipping away. He could hear voices in the distance, but dared not to move to see.
"...You and your mens deaths will send a message to all who oppose us." He heard a female voice say. He heard a gruesome flesh sound and a brief scream from who he assumed as Captain Darren.
"Very good Krystal..." He heard another voice say, this one older and raspy, "The others will be here shortly to collect the supplies..." His voice trailed on, and there was a response from her, but he couldn't focus enough to understand the words. His head swirling, he then lost consciousness.
"...And then I woke up here." He finished. Sidaros waited a moment for the knight to finish writing, then took a deep breath. He tried to make sense of what he said, but it just didn't. White smoke? He's never heard of any magic like that.
"What was in that vial that you drank?" Varze asked. Sidaros didn't pay attention: He was too deep in thought.
"Antipoison. I learned how to make it from the druids." He responded.
"A skill that saved your life, so it seems."
"That was the idea behind making it, anyways." He responded. Varze chuckled at this.
"Sir Varze," A knight said, opening the door to the room, "the Void Knight is here."
"Wow that was fast." Sidaros said.
"Thank magics." Varze said, "We will be down in a moment." The knight nodded and left.
"Forgive us for our lack of hospitality, but you're going to have to stay here.." Sir Varze said sympathetically. Sadon shook his head.
"It's quite alright. Considering the events that took place over the past couple of days I'm happy to be here." He said. The knights chuckled and they walked downstairs.
The two walked down to the courtyard and saw the Void Knight standing there.
"My, they're just as intimidating as they say, huh?" Sidaros said to Varze.
"You think they're bad now, see them in combat. Years of training and fighting those pests make them formidable as hell." He responded. The two walked up and greeted him.
"You're the two Sir Cashien said to meet up with?" The knight asked. There was something odd about his voice, Sidaros noted. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but he could tell.
"Yes. I'm Sir Amik Varze, leader of the White Knights." The two shook hands. "This is Proselyte Sidaros of the Temple Knights. He's the head of this investigation."
"Corporal Jericho Auditore. How can I be of assistance?"
"Well we're having an issue with what seems like ghost attackers, but we just hit a new lead." Sidaros explained, "It seems we're not the only ones with this problem. A Kinshra convoy was ambushed at the White Wolf Mountain. There was actually a survivor and he gave us an odd story."
Sidaros explained the story as the three walked through Falador. The sun was beginning to set now, and the streets became less busy as the taverns became more.
"Most intriguing..." Auditore said, trailing off. "Anything else?"
"Other than a man that was arrested for a public disturbance, not much. He was saying something about an ancient evil returning to Runescape."
"Where is he at?"
"The city jail. Shall we go there?" Sidaros asked.
"It would be in our best interest." He answered. The three walked to the jail, and went to the cell which held the man.
"Here he is." Sidaros said.
"Where are you from?" Auditore asked. The man immedietly went wide-eyed and had a horrified expression on his face.
"NOOOO. YOU'RE ONE OF THEM!" He wailed, and crawled to the corner of his cell, "STAY AWAY YOU DEMON!"
Varze and Sidaros looked at each other puzzled. Auditore took his helmet off, revealing short black hair and dark brown eyes that almost had a malevolent look to them.
"If you're referring to the Bedabins of the South, you're wrong. I'm a Menaphite, and from the looks of you, you're from Nardah." The man calmed down a bit.
"I am sorry brother.. I thought you were one of them.." He wimpered, standing back up.
"Why are you in Falador?" He asked him.
"I came to warn about what I found the Bedabins doing.. No one believed me..." He said.
"Maybe because you were just shouting and screaming nonsense." The jail guard shouted.
"Not the time Jacobson" Varze said back, the guard nodded and returned to reading.
"I need you to tell me what you saw." Jericho said.
"I was harvesting Cacti in the desert when I saw a group of them... They were at the Jaldraocht pyramid performing some kind of ritual..." Jericho's expression seemed to change to a very serious one.
"Are you sure of this?" Jericho asked.
"My eyes would not decieve me."
"Very well." The knight said, and spun to the other two knights.
"I strongly advise you gather all the rulers of Asgarnia and Misthalin. We need to have a meeting about this matter very soon." Varze looked stunned.
"Why the sudden urgency?" He asked.
"Because if I'm right, and I pray I'm not, we are going to need everone's support. I will contact Commodore as well to ask for the aid of the Void Knights."
"Corporal this is extremely sudden, and whatever you're planning I hope you're ready to give an explanation in front of everyone." Sidaros said.
"Trust me... If we don't act soon, we just might have to worry about more than ambushes." Jericho responded, moving to leave the building.
"What do you mean?"
"A God might be returning to Falador. And if he does... We're doomed."
