Though the marriage alliance was confirmed, the elders decided that the wedding should take place during cherry blossom festival. There was still time for the wedding. So the two love birds were supposed to stay patient while being totally aware about the fact that some day they were going to spend their life together forever. It was the most interesting as well as most confusing period of their life!

There were phones but the people who often talked were the parents. Sigh.

Kanata never had time for long talks and Miyu, poor dear never knew what she should say!

It was quite an evening in Saionji household. Tomorrow will be a very pleasant event. Tomorrow's day marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of Kanata's parents.

The Saionji family was together sitting in the veranda, sharing evening tea relishing time together.

"Dear, what do you want to do tomorrow?" Hosho asked Hitomi.

"Yes, Oka-san, Otou-san, please tell what we can do, I want to make this anniversary special for both of you!" Kanata exclaimed unreserved.

"But Kanata you have work" Hitomi interjected.

"Oh, about that" Kanata replied smirking, "I took a day off"

Hitomi was touched by caring nature of her men. She thought for some time and then replied, "I want to celebrate our anniversary with my family and friends."

"But we always do that" Hosho stated shaking his head. "What is new?" he continued.

"This will be the first time we celebrate our anniversary with the Kouzuki family. Miyu will come to our place as our future daughter-in-law." Hitomi said watching Kanata, pleased to see his sudden reaction.

Kanata was taking a swig of his tea at that time, and Hitomi's answer caught him off-guard. He tried to control his shocked reaction and not to spit his drink everywhere. He barely succeeded, managing to swallow it.

"Oka-san" he said with a cough.

"You all right?" Hosho gave him several solid thwacks on the back.

"I'm coughing, not choking." He shoved his hand away and scowled. "Stop hitting me."

"Sorry." Hosho said.

Kanata felt a blush warm his cheeks and ducked his head concentrating unsuccessfully on his tea causing his parents to burst out in laughter.

Hosho called the Kouzuki's and invited them for the next day celebration. Yuu gratefully accepted their invitation. The Kouzuki's got nice gift for the Saionji's. A necklace set for Hitomi and a limited edition watch for Hosho.

Miki prepared a long list of things Miyu was supposed to cook for her in-laws. Miyu was not very skilled when it came to cooking but her cooking was edible at least as she thought.

With parents like hers she was always alone and her childhood nanny was a great chef. She learned a few things from her nanny 'Miru-san' as Miyu called her. It was a shock to Miyu when her parents dismissed Miru-san after Miyu's twelfth birthday stating that she was very attached to her nanny and behaving like a brat. Miru-san requested to be her cooking teacher but her words fell on deaf ears. It was heart-breaking for both Miyu and Miru-san as both of them loved each other dearly. Whoever came after Miru-san was super strict with Miyu, she was scolded and punished for minutest mistake she ever made.

Her parents expected her to grow like a proper lady and she grew like one!

Miyu managed to bake a strawberry cake and make some red and white namasu, and croquettes and was quite proud that she still remembered the tips given by Miru-san. Her cake was fluffy, croquettes didn't break and were crispy enough. She along with her mother packed the food.

Kouzuki's received a pleasant reception from the Saionji's. The Saionji's were elated to meet the Kouzuki's.

After the greetings, Miki encouraged an apprehensive Miyu to hand over the gifts.

"We have something for you" Miyu spoke softly, shyly handing the parcels to Hitomi. "Happy anniversary Mr and Mrs Saionji"

"These all things are prepared by Miyu unaided" Miki boasted Miyu whose cheeks flushed a sweet red rose.

"That's wonderful" Hitomi exclaimed and hugged Miyu pleasantly surprising her with motherly affection. "Thank you so much dear! You are like my daughter to me, please leave all the formalities aside and call me Oka-san." She said sincerely with tears in her eyes as she stepped back. Miyu's eyes were bright as she fought to get a grip on her emotions.

"Please don't thank me….Oka-san" Miyu smiled shyly.

"We should go," Hosho said. "Our family is waiting in garden for us. I want them to meet you." Not waiting for a response he headed for the door.

Hosho introduced the Kouzuki family to all their friends and relatives. They all were good people. It didn't take too long before everyone became friendly.

Later the night when everyone left, only Kanata's parents were sitting in the living room looking through the photo albums.

"Today's anniversary was really memorable" Hitomi said. Her voice full of smile. She sounded like a small girl gifted with anything she could desire.

"Yes, everything was worth it." Hosho agreed.

"Can you believe we have completed twenty five years of our marriage?" she said.

"I still feel it was only yesterday when we first met. Remember how cat caught my tongue when I was introduced to you." Hosho said laughing.

"Yes, I remember." Hitomi giggled. "You are everything I wished to have in a husband. Thank you for all those beautiful years we spent together."

"Thank you too dear. If it was not you I don't know what I would have done in my life. You became my light in darkness, my support system. You make me happy. You gave me son who makes me feel proud eveytime." Hosho replied. He was never to talkative but his feelings always came from his heart. Only he never knew how to express them properly.

"I always wished I had my own little girl. A daughter to love and spoil. When we first met Miyu I felt God has finally granted my wish. She will give Kanata as much as joy and pride as you have given me." Hitomi said.

"She is a sweet girl. She will make him happy." Hosho agreed with his wife.

Hitomi was starting to feel tired so they went to their room. She was doing some last minute rituals when she heard a knock.

"Come in." she said.

The Saionji's always spent as much as time together. Today being busy with the guest they didn't get much time. Kanata entered his parent's room.

"Ready for the bed?" he inquired. Hosho was busy preparing their bed.

"Yes, but there is still time before we sleep." Hosho replied, sitting on bed.

"Everything Ok?" he asked referring to Hitomi's health.

"Yes. I am really ecstatic." She said from the sofa she was sitting on.

"I am glad you enjoyed the day." Kanata said moving next to her. He sat down and put his head on her lap as he did from the day he was a small boy.

"I really wish Miyu's parents would have let her stay here today." Hitomi said as she softly stroked his hair. "But I am really happy she came. I am overjoyed for next year when she will be here as a family"

"Oka-san, about Miyu, don't you think she was nervous today?" Kanata asked.

"She came first time to her future family's function, met so many strangers, it is a natural reaction for girls. She was scared to give any wrong impression." Hitomi said.

"She seemed very reserved today. She was very quiet." Kanata told his observations.

"Oho! You want her to be noisy?" Hosho asked wriggling his eyebrows in a teasing manner.

"Ah..No..Otou-san! Oka-san, I didn't mean.." Kanata immediately sat up, shocked and was about to clear any misunderstandings when suddenly Hitomi spoke.

"Stop teasing him dear." She chastised Hosho. "He sounds really concerned."

Hosho merely nodded. "It is nice to see you worry for your future wife." He said.

"I am not worried or something but I thought she was scared." Kanata replied making his parents smile.

"Kanata when a girl is getting married, everything for her changes. Her home, her family, friends, everything. Before marriage she is living with different family, different people have different ideologies. When she moves in with her husband, she is suddenly surrounded by in-laws, for some girls it is a synonym for demon family. You know why? Because everyone in the new family expects her to be perfect in everything, you know cooking, cleaning, all household work and other work too if required. She becomes a centre of constant attention where everyone is just waiting for her to make come mistake and then start calling her mean names. She doesn't know whom to approach and speak her heart out. She is scared and anxious now but I know one day she will make you happy and so you will make her." Hitomi said.

"But we will always be there to help her in any matter." Kanata said as a matter of fact. "We don't expect her to know everything. No one is perfect."

"She is really a sweet girl Kanata." His father said as if reading his mind. "Her family background is different as compared to ours. The way she was asking for unspoken approval of her parents every time we were around made me realise it. She is shy and scared now, but when she comes here, we will give her so much love and happiness that outsiders will think she is our daughter."

"Kanata, promise me after your marriage you will become her friend, the person she could rely on, you will always think from her perspective and keep her your priority." Hitomi asked.

"Yes Oka-san. I promise." Kanata replied. "I will do whatever I can to make her happy."

"Good. Because when you marry her you will be giving me a daughter I have always longed for. She will fill my soul with joy and gladness and you will love her with all your heart." Hitomi said, her expression softening.

"Both of you would find your happiness in each other the same way we did." Hosho said. "And when time comes there will be grandchildren for us to spoil." He added to tease his son.

"Good night Oka-san, Otou san." He said blushing a little as he left for his room.

His parents only laughed at his antiques.
