AN: okay, so I've been watching "The Walking Dead" lately and it really got me so stuck in their action and whole thing, so there are quite a lot of parts inspired there. Anyway, thanks for reading, following, reviewing and all that. I hope you enjoy this chapter and I don't own "How to Train Your Dragon"

Chapter 3

The time when we use our resources

Her neck was aching by the time she had woken up; she rubbed the sore part before looking out the window. She cursed the moment she realized it was already dark outside. She bolted out of her couch and shut the television off. She grabbed her keys before going out of her house and got into her car. She was supposed to visit earlier than this, but she didn't realize she had drifted off to sleep. She drove her car towards the hospital, enjoying the quiet night drive through the now peaceful streets.

So far, nothing had happened, and she was glad for it. Nothing was coming up on her radio too, and she figures that should be a good sign, but it was unusually quiet. She arrives at the hospital, and immediately turns off the engine and walks to the entrance. By the time she had looked up, she saw a mess from the inside of the glass doors. No guards were stationed, and no one was bustling in and out of rooms. Papers were scattered on the floor, and some other things were also on the floor.

She hover her hand above her gun, and inched a step towards the entrance. She was on full alert, and she could swear she hears her heartbeat, she could feel it in her chest, threatening to come out, but she breaths in and out, attempting to keep calm. She pushes the door open, stepping in as quietly as she could. She gulps quietly as she looks left and right. The light on the left corridor was flickering, and she knows it's not wise to go through it, but she finds her feet going towards it anyway.

She arrives at the first room, and she peers inside, finding no one, but a bunch of mess inside. She moves on, and she sees the same thing and arrives at the end, where there were two corridors. She looks left and right, before she remembers about John, her sheriff, who also happens to be someone, she's romantically involved with. She turns back, until she halts. She had almost yelled in surprise when she saw that someone, who she hasn't seen there before, was standing by the entrance.

The man was in a bloodied hospital gown, and he was swaying back and forth, he was sniffing. She knows because she could hear the sniffing sounds he was making. She slowly goes to the right corridor, and hides before he's had the chance to see her. She breathes in and out, looking at the other alternatives that she could do right now…

She could always shoot him in the head, that'll probably do the trick, except she wasn't sure she could kill him. There was a fifty percent chance that he was normal and blending in as well, but he was a pretty good actor if that was the case. Besides, the disadvantage of shooting him is that she forgot her silencer. The blow would probably attract more than she could handle and worst case scenario, she'll end up like them. A zombie.

She moves on and starts to walk silently, cautious of anyone else with her. She crouches down as she avoids the wirings spilled out from the ceiling. She feels as if she should get out, but she needs to go and check up on her sheriff. She reaches the room, and she breathes in and out, not knowing what it is that she expected, but she's having some wild guess…

And it's not very comforting for her to think about it.

Before she could even open the door, she hears some heavy footfalls. Many footfalls actually, and it was headed her way. She runs away hastily opposite of the sound, not wanting any close encounters with what that was about. Fortunately, she finds an open door, though it's dark, she knows that no one is in there because she had already passed through there. If there was someone in there, he or she would have chased her already.

She hears it, if only faintly, something that sounded like someone was whimpering, trying to stifle a scream. Astrid peaks outside, just a little, and her eyes widened on what she saw. He definitely wasn't like the others. He seemed normal enough, aside from his abnormally large size. He was panting and kept looking behind him. He was bringing along some kind of cellophane that rustled with his steps. Astrid stepped outside and pointed her gun to him…

"Ah!" he yelped, but then relaxed, "Oh thank goodness you're normal." Astrid quirked up her eyebrow to him, "You know, you're not like the other-"

"I get it!" she snaps, "Who are you?" she asks him and gestures to the bag in his hand…

"Oh, uh," he thinks about what he's supposed to say to make her lower her gun from his face, "Can we not do this here? Now?" he asks, sweat rolling down his temples as he nervously glances behind him. And to think he even left Meatlug back in the car. His poor baby must be scared. The girl in front of him lowers the gun as she realizes he's being pursued she tucks the gun behind her and pulls him into one of the dark rooms, and he doesn't protest. It was either her or those man eaters…

Suddenly people with guns don't seem such a bad idea.

She shuts the doors and locks them both in as they waited for the crowd to pass. For a moment it didn't seem like they were coming, when they heard the moans. And suddenly, it all doesn't seem to stop. The girl suddenly flips the switch on, and Felix squints his eyes at the brightness, "Alright, who are you?" she asks, glaring at him and he smiles sheepishly at her…

"Uh my name's Felix, Felix Ingerman, actually Dr. Felix-"

"Are you one of the doctors here?" she asks and he shakes his head, "Somewhere you've got to go?" she asks and he shakes his head as well. She stares at him for a moment before she tries to open the door, to which he protests…

"I don't think that they're gone yet." He says and she stares at him for a moment, "Besides there's probably more."

Astrid doesn't want to think about what's going to happen, she was so close to making sure, but Dr. Ingerman was right. There was probably more. "What are our chances of getting out of here alive?"

"Um, the probability of that situation would be one out of a million." He replies painfully honest, "And besides chances of survival are dwindling down to single digits now."

"Why can't you just say 'not good', rather than give me numbers." She mumbles under her breath, but he still heard it…

"I believe precision is always good in these times."

"And sometimes it's not." She snaps at him again. "So doc," she sighs and stares at him, putting her gun away, "Where did these things come from?" she asks him and he shakes his head and slumps down to the floor, "Hey, I asked you a question!" she was getting extremely impatient, she doesn't even know where these things came from, and she doesn't know how it'll end. This was just way too much and she wasn't even the slightest bit prepared…

Felix wanted the ground to go and swallow him already. This was probably partially his fault, if he hadn't tried and covered this up when it first started, "The Ebola virus." He answered weakly, "At first we thought we could just quarantine it, prevent it more from spreading, but then it first happened…"

"What? What are you talking about, and what's with the whole Ebola virus?" Astrid demanded, "How's this supposed to answer what's been going on?!"

"You're right, it doesn't make any sense," Felix said, "But it's the only way to answer your questions." Astrid stared at him in disbelief and started to pace around the room. She doesn't know how to process this information, basically everything he's been saying doesn't really make things any clear than they are…

"Okay, what do you mean by that, exactly?" she asked as she crouched in front of him. Felix just suddenly broke down, he couldn't take it anymore. The world's gone haywire and here he was not being able to do a single thing about it. He can't do this; he can't do anything but statistics. That's all he's been good at. Sure he's a scientist, but all he did was record things down and assist the rest of the experts.

"It's all my fault, if only we've warned the public beforehand." He mumbled, and that made Astrid stare at him in confusion…

"Wait, you knew this before it all started!?" she hissed at him, careful not to yell even though she really wanted to.

"Yes!" he sobbed, "The rumour about the whole Ebola zombie that we wrote off as a hoax, it's not a hoax, it was true. My team was sent to go and confirm it, but when we did we decided it was best if the public not know about it, but they already spread, so we had to say something to let people not panic."

"Well they're panicking now!" Astrid hissed at him and placed a gun at his head, which only caused him to whimper in fright all the more, "I should put a bullet in your head!" the radio cackles, and both of them stop. "What is that? A walkie talkie?" she asked him and started to search. She found it and listened to what was going on what was trying to be said from the other side of the line, "Hello?" she said through the walkie talkie…

"It's probably Hiccup." Felix said, sniffing. He noticed the look Astrid was giving him, probably not buying it, "I'm telling you, he contacted me, and told me to go to his place." Astrid ignored him once more and tried to talk through the talkie once more…

"If anyone reads, please respond, over." She said but still wasn't getting anything, "This is Officer Hofferson, if anyone reads, please respond!" she said a bit louder now, when something bumped on the door, outside the room they were hiding from. Astrid cursed and looked around, there was no way out, aside from the door. She handed Felix the gun, and he just stared at it for a moment, "If anyone is hearing me, I need you to answer now, as in right now!" she hissed and the scratching and the growling was growing more and more aggressive.

Astrid gestures for Felix to get behind her and they had gotten a good deal away from the door. The radio cackles to life once more, and Felix immediately recognizes the voice, "Hiccup!" he exclaims, and Astrid shushes him as the zombies try to get in the room. Astrid hands him the talkie and surveys the room for anything they can find…

"Felix, where are you?" Felix takes the metal stick Astrid breaks from what seemed to be an IV stand as he tried to respond to Hiccup as well…

"Still in the hospital." He finally replies, "And good news, I found someone!" he happily states and Astrid shoots him a glare…

"Introductions later, right now, we need to get out!" she hissed at him and takes the talkie, "Hiccup, sir, I'm afraid I'm going to have to cut this conversation short."

"And who are you?" the 'Hiccup' person asks her but she ignores the question and just dumps the talkie on the bag Felix was carrying and placed a hand over the knob and looks at Felix…

"You ready?" she asks and he nods, "Whatever happens, no bites or scratches or whatever okay?" she says and turns to the knob, "I don't even want to know what happens after that." She opens the doors and they stumble in all bloodied up and whatnot. Astrid shoots the closest one in the head, and the sound echoes throughout the hospital. It was a bad move, but it was the only weapon she has at the time. Felix follows her, cautious of what's behind them as she watches what's in front. "Hold up," she says, "Stay here." She gestures to another empty room and lets Felix stay in there as she goes through another hallway.

If her memory serves her correctly, there should be an emergency axe somewhere around the area. She turns another corner and hides as she sees another group of them walking through the other connected corridor. One wanders towards her and she looks around and sees a broken shard of a vase and grabs it. She patiently waits for it to come, and when it does, she immediately tackles it as quietly as she could to the ground, and takes a good look at it for a moment, before driving the broken glass in its skull. She heaves a sigh and gets up and takes another hallway…

Felix waits inside the abandoned room, when the talkie cackles once more, "Hiccup?" Felix says through it in a whisper, "Are you there?" he asks lowly as he looks around him, a bit paranoid. What if the girl had left him back here all alone? Or what if she died somewhere out there or had gotten eaten or something? The talkie responds, and he knows it's Hiccup…

"Felix?" Hiccup says, "That you?"

"Yes, it's me." He says, "Listen, sorry about that a while ago, we were in a bind."

"Who was that with you a while ago?"

"Oh, it was," he pauses, now that Hiccup mentioned it, asking for her name seemed to have slipped his mind, "You know what, let's talk about that later, right now she's off somewhere to do something." He replied, and there were another set of groans passing them by. The longer it is that he stays in the hospital, the more he thinks he's getting adept at hiding from these things. There were some slashes from outside the doors as well as some more grunts, and the knob starts to turn. He drops the talkie and grabs the metal the girl had given him…

The door opens and the girl comes into view with gore and blood all over her and an axe in her hand. The fire emergency axe, "Come on." She whispers to him and he gets up to follow her out of the hospital. They come down on a corridor, and there weren't much of the zombies there, so they took it. As soon as the two of them came into view, they started to walk towards them and Astrid raised her axe and swung it at the first one. Deciding to go and help, Felix sticks the metal through one of the eyes of the one almost about to take a bite from Astrid. Astrid nods in thanks to him and he nods back and they slowly made their way out of the hospital.

"Hold up!" Felix hisses, "We have to go get my dog!" he tells her and she looks at him incredulously…

"Nu-uh," she says, "I'm not going to risk my life, BOTH of our lives for a mutt!" she replies and starts to head towards her police car, but Felix goes towards his car anyway. Astrid curses under her breath and follows Felix even against her better judgment. If she lets him die, it would be his blood on her hands, even if she warned him not to.

Felix heads over to his car to find his windows broken, and a group swarming by the window of his car. There was blood dripping from the side of his car, and he wailed. Why didn't he just stay inside his home instead? It might have been better if he hadn't stepped outside at all. Meatlug wouldn't have to die like this. He didn't realize they were going to swarm him already when he heard a gunshot, then another, and another. A hand was soon on his shoulder, and he realized who it was…

"Come on," she said softly to him and popped another one of their heads. He let himself get dragged and as he got in the passenger's seat, he realized he wanted to go, to die. A stupid notion really, he just lost his dog, but why did it seem like he had lost everything? No, he realized he didn't just lose his dog, he lost a family. "Felix," she called out and he finally faced her, "I'm sorry, about your dog." She finally says. As she realizes another group of them were coming towards them, she starts the car and quickly drives out.

Felix continues to sob at the loss of his dog. Normally, Astrid would have snapped at him to keep quiet, but she knows the pain of losing a dog, at the very least. The dog she had back then, she named her Stormfly, she didn't know why, it just seemed like a good idea, but the dog got lost at some point. She barely remembered the reason why it got lost, but she remembered not being able to sleep, eat or do anything aside from worry what had happened, where it was, was it adopted by someone else or was it abused in the streets?

But she knows one thing, knowing what had happened to something you cared for was way better than not knowing at all what had happened. Astrid cleared her throat and looked at Felix for a moment before glancing back at the road in front of her, "You still have that talkie?" she asked and Felix nodded, trying to find it, but realized he had dropped it back at the hospital. Astrid resisted the urge to curse once more before grabbing the radio attached in her car, "This is Officer Hofferson, leaving Berk and headed towards an unknown person calling himself as Hiccup, if anyone reads please respond." She says and waits for something, when nothing happens she does it again, but still nothing…

"I'm sorry." Felix finally said, "I didn't mean to lose it."

"It's fine." She says and turns to her right to see the police station. "Wait here in the car." She parks it and turns of the engines and the lights. She grabs the axe and her gun, which only has four rounds left last time she checked, before going out of the car. She closes her door silently and walks into the dark station. She could see some lights flickering at the back of the station, when she hears a growl on her left, and she instinctively swings the axe, making it hit its mark, by the chest. It was still alive, snapping its mouth at her, trying to reach her and she takes a good look at her face…

"Cameron." She whispers and looks at the officer with sad eyes, "I'm sorry for this." She pulls back the axe and swings it to the head, which causes the body to drop dead on the floor. "Headshots only, huh?" she mumbles to herself and walks towards the weapons of the place. She looks around and sees plenty of officers she knows dead, or eaten, some were of what's left of them. She grabs a bag and starts to pack up some rifles, handguns and some more ammo. She grabs another bag and stocks it with the first aid kit she sees lying around and some flashlights.

As soon as she was done clearing out the station with whatever they needed to survive this mess, she started to go back to the car. Fortunately, not many were around, so she got in the car without any trouble and turned the engine on and started to drive away. "If you don't mind me asking," Astrid said, "What were you doing back in the hospital?" she asked and Felix just shrugged in reply...

"I was trying to get some more supplies, like medicine and all; I figured I could use it, or some people I'd encounter." He mumbled, "Most of them I didn't know what were for, so I just got a few of those I know of and tried to get away. More of them kept coming at every corner and I dropped most," he showed up the little plastic bag, "I just got away with this little bunch." He murmured and stared blankly ahead, "Hiccup read your call." He finally stated, "I told him we were still at Berk, he said we needed to pass by Helheim's gate, and then go down the Dragon road. There we will see a house somewhere in the woods. It's his."

"Helheim's gate…" Astrid muttered to herself, "The radio prick is in through there?!" she exclaims, but calms herself down, "Do you know even police officers don't venture out there that far?" she informed Felix, "I mean, some never get past the first several meters just because they think they're getting lost! And most of them are right." She adds and gestures for the compartment underneath the dashboard by his side, "There's a map there somewhere, and it has got to lead us through there."

"Alright." Felix replies looking through it, once he finally sees the map, he opens it and Astrid lets him navigate through where they are going. "Oh, if you don't mind me asking officer, what is your name?" Astrid let out a sigh and opened her mouth to speak…

"Astrid. Astrid Hofferson."

Everywhere else was scattered, blood, devoured bodies and all. It was a mess; cars were all over the place, and not one single person that seemed normal aside from the three of them. "This isn't what I signed up for." Stephen complained. Tomas and Catherine were trailing after him, carrying their makeshift weapons. After all, almost anything can be made a weapon if used correctly. Stephen was walking in the streets, crouching behind one of the cars, "You think they won't mind if we just borrow a car?" he asked them and they both exchanged looks…

"Well considering no one's around…" Catherine trailed off as she looked around, "I'd say go for it."

"Are you kidding me?" Tomas argued, "What if they needed the car?"

"We need it too!" Stephen said, "We can't exactly go back to my car, it's surrounded by those things…" he visibly shuddered and walked towards the nearest pick-up, "Besides, we'll leave a note."

"Yeah Tommy," Catherine supported, using his hated nickname as well, "We'll leave a note saying we'll return it by the time this is all over, but to do that, we need to survive this disaster." She said and nodded to Stephen, "Well, do you want to do the honors, or should I?"

"You know how to hack wire a car?" both Stephen and Tomas asked her and she let out a sigh…

"I guess it's going to be me, cover my back will you?" she tells and gets up before breaking the glass. She dives under the dashboard and spots the infamous two wires needed to be struck and gets the engine going before telling them both to get in. They both do, and just when she was about to drive away, one zombie had grabbed onto her arm, causing her to scream, when suddenly it dropped dead. Both Stephen and Catherine looked at the knife lodged into its skull and saw Tomas' outstretched hand still on its hilt. Tomas was breathing heavily and Catherine and Stephen just stared at him for a moment when he sat back down at the back seat, while Catherine immediately pushed the corpse away and rolled up the window and started to drive away.

"So where are we off to?" asked Catherine as she drove away cautiously from the rest. Stephen was looking at his phone for a moment before he looked up…

"We're off to Helheim's Gate." he said

"Hiccup," Heather said as she approached Hiccup warily. Ever since the radio announcement, of his father being called out of retirement, Hiccup had been restless and went off to the basement, Toothless following him faithfully. When he resurfaced, he was sweating profusely and now taking a rest. He had looked up from the couch and stared at his companion, "I want to ask if I could use your phone?" she said meekly and Hiccup nodded and took his phone and handed it to her…

"Who're you calling?" he asked and Heather let out a sigh and began to dial a number…

"My brother." She answered meekly and Hiccup raised an eyebrow at her…

"Your brother?" he asked in surprise, "I didn't know you had one."

"I don't really talk about him much." She admitted, "He's more of a berserk type of guy, and his two friends are equally on the crazy side too." She added and raised the phone to her ear. It wasn't until a few moments later that it was picked up by a groggy voice, that was most definitely not a brother of hers…

"Uh, hello?" the person on the other side has said, "Uh, hellooo? Is anybody there? Is anyone even calling?"

"Ugh, quiet down muttonhead, some are trying to sleep around here."

"Well excuse me if I was answering the phone bride of Grendel."

"What did you call me yakbrain?"

"You heard me, I called you-" there was a whack followed by a yelp of pain and Heather let out a resigned sigh…

"Ruff, Tuff, is my brother there?"

"What's it to you?" answered Tuffnut in a suspicious manner. "Who are you and what do you want with Dagur?"

"Just give the phone to my brother please?" she huffed in annoyance and there was a pause…

"Brother? Huh, I thought he only had one sibling." She heard Tuffnut mumble out before another whack was heard from the background, "Seriously! Someone could get hurt!" Tuff exclaimed and Heather groaned…

"You idiot! That's Heather!"

"But why would Heather's number not be registered in her brother's phone? Hmm…"

"Huh, good point. Who are you and what do you want with Dagur?" It was Ruffnut this time and Heather groaned…

"Just give it to him!"

"Ugh, fine." There were some slight scuffles and grunts, until finally it was the voice she wanted to hear…

"Yes?" Dagur answered and Heather let out a sigh of relief…

"Finally! Where are you?" she asks hurriedly

When Tuffnut had given him his phone, he hadn't expected his sister to be calling him. Sure he loves her as a big brother would, but they never really were close despite his constant efforts of getting close to her, she just didn't like him enough. He looks around and shrugs, "Helheim's forest." He answered and watched as Ethan spared them a quick glance before he once again turned back to the phone…

"You?" he asked her in genuine concern…

"Close." She said, he heard her talking to someone on the background, and soon Heather goes back to answer him, "I'm texting you the address, just ring the doorbell please? I'm staying with a friend." And with that she hung up on him. It wasn't for a few moments later where he receives a text and opens it up…

Night Fury Street, Block 15, Lot 20, that big lone house by the edge of the Dragon's woods. That's the house. Be careful.

"Okay, let's pack up people!" Dagur called out to the rest of them. "We're off to Dragon's Edge."

And duh, duh, duh, DUN! They're on their way to meet each other, what do you guys think? I'm not going to delve too much into the scientific concept, so I'll be borrowing a few ideas here and there, maybe from Walking Dead or the World War Z, and maybe Train to Busan, I'm not too sure, but tell me what you think! Once again, belated Merry Christmas, belated Happy New Year to you guys! Thank you so much for your continued support. Tell me what you think and you may also give some suggestions or whatnots…

Thank you!
