The First Day, The Sequel

Guest/ReensTheHedgehog: That's awesome. If its only a mention, I think I can fit her in somewhere. Reens is such a cool character to experiment with!

GunofRevenge: I have no idea what that means.

The Crazy Clan: Arthur is just a name I put in there. He's supposed to be one of Manic's friends, and I thought there was an existing character named Arthur, but I guess I was wrong. And Thanks!

As with Reens, if you want an OC mentioned, give me what they would be doing and how they look. Its so much fun to put little surprises in the text for the readers!

I looked at the clock.

5:20.

I had been awake for almost an hour, just lying in bed and waiting for sleep to find me, but since it was only twenty minutes before I had to get up anyway, I sat up and pulled my knees to my chest. I left my closet door ajar last night, the darkness within at first concerned me, but I told myself I was a fool to be scared of my own closet.

First day of Senior Year. I had checked my social media profiles last night, and all my friends were excited to see which classes they had gotten with their boyfriends, or to see them after Friday's senior party anyway. Out of my group of preppy friends, I was the only one who didn't have a boyfriend. Or even a dude that they knew I was interested in. I was also the one who had two brothers, too, so there was that.

I stared at the outfit I had picked out last night for the first day. I smiled, it spoke to me, and I quite liked the way the skirt fell around my legs when I put it on. I walked to the bathroom and stared at my messy hair in the mirror. I had slept with it wet last night, so this was going to take some taming. I put it up when I was done, hoping my friends would still notice the pink I put in there last week, then knocked on my brother's door so hard I'm surprised he didn't scream at me.

"Stanley! Time to get up! You gotta shower remember?"

A moan was all I got for a reply.

I went downstairs to get the breakfast mix. I would wake Matt up later, he and Sonic are always fighting, so I usually wake them up five or ten minutes apart. Milk. The thing about my brothers is that they rely on each other, but they don't see it that way. We all rely on one another. My mom works a lot, and her job as a police officer detective keeps her up early sometimes. She was already at work today. She had pulled an all nighter at the office and frankly I would see her when I got home from school even if it was just her napping on the couch after her boss sent her home. Happened every once in a while, but it was all the same. Chief Legarto was nice to Mom, from what I'd seen, which wasn't much. mom didn't want us in her personal life. Eggs in trash. Five Minutes. Look, all I'm trying to say is that in single parent household with that absent parent, three teenagers rely on each other, especially if they are triplets and been together since birth.

Kinda reminds me of a time when we would pretend Mom was a queen, and we were three triplets separated at birth brought together by a magic oracle. We had powers and used these dorky medallions we made from cardboard to channel our powers. Ah, what were we? Ooh, forgot Vanilla. Six?

I looked up at the time, then turned on the pan to heat up. I walked upstairs and still heard the shower. Really? I had given him fifteen minutes! Who takes showers that long?

I peaked my head in his room in the back of the upstairs hallway. My finger flipped the light.

"Manic! Get up for school!" I saw myself in his mirror and noticed the dark circles under my eyes. Crap. Forgot make-up.

I walked across the hall and grabbed my lipstick and concealer.

"Matt Rush Mach! You get up for school this instant! Mom had to leave early and I'm not having you be late for the first day of our senior year!"

"What do you mean?" He started to rub his eye sleepily. "School doesn't start for another week and a half..."

"School starts at 7! It's almost 6! We gotta leave in a half hour!"

"Soniaaaaaaaaa..." He groaned as he slid down to the floor. I bore my teeth in disgust. His room was disgusting! How could he live like this? I don't understand! His clothes were haphazardly spread across the room and there was a strange odor that lingered in my nose even after I was in front of the pancakes. Oh shoot. Forgot Eyeliner.

I rushed back upstairs past my whining brother at the bathroom door.

"Is that why you're pouting big baby boo? Manic didn't get to wash his hair last night?"

I stopped listening, up until the point Manic asked the occasion for my outfit. It was the first day of school, if that's not an excuse to dress up I don't know what is. Then Manic caught a towel that I hadn't seen Sonic throw at me.

"This belongs in the towel hamper."

Thank goodness Sonic was wearing pants underneath it. His blond hair was shiny against the hallway lights and dawning sky.

We left for school a little late, but we did get to school on time. I met up with my besties right after we got our schedules.

"OMG, Sophie, look what my third period is!" Sally gushed.

"Econ? What's so great about that?" I asked, staring at the mint green slip of paper.

"Stanley is in that class!"

"I don't know why you are so excited about it," Ruby broke in. "Yesterday you couldn't stop worrying about how to break up with him."

"Maybe the degrading economy will help spark our love once more!"

"Rouge, you should know that she's hopeless. If she lets him go, a thousand other girls are lined up ready to pounce on him. My brother is one hot hunk," I replied. Ruby laughed, then bit her lip as she watched the glass windows.

"Look who's here, making eyes at you," she hummed.

I glanced behind me, resting my eyes on Scott Eclipse, the emoist emo to ever walk the halls of Forest High. He wore a big long trench coat and black boots that clunked when he walked. "Scott? As if.."

"Are you sure? I almost see the color on his face."

"That's not a blush, Sally, that's called getting enough sleep. Something you wouldn't know about."

"Same," a smooth, suave voice said from behind me.

"Kien!" Ruby squealed. I turned, in turn straining my neck backwards. This dude was huge and ripped. His dreads sat on his massive brute shoulders. His fists measured to about twice the size of Ruby's, hers practically drowned in his. Her lips left a dark red mark on his cheek. She leaned up against him as we continued the conversation. Kien broke in.

"Sophie, right? You're Stanley's sister?"

"Yes, sir. Pleasure to meet the famous Knuckles."

"Oh," Kien laughed. "Sonic loves his nicknames, doesn't he?" I nodded as the bell rang.

"Well, Kien's got to go to football, and I have to go to first period. See you ladies later!" Ruby turned and waved. Kien raised his hand.

"Pleasure, ladies."

Rule #4 of Best Friends Forever; Don't hit on another hoe's man. Ever.

I was almost about to break number 4. Hunka Hunka.

"Sophie, where's your first period?"

"English in the Basement. You go to Chemistry, right?"

"Girl, I'm taking three AP classes this year. Kill me now," Sally chuckled while I headed toward the big staircase.

"You think that's bad? I have five!" I replied. "Seeya at lunch!"

Yay, more drama.

But what was reaaaalllly interesting was what Manic told me about that night. Nobody notices Manic's eyes, not because they're distracted by his emo, but because he's always looking down and he never looks anyone not his siblings in the eye. He may not want anyone else to know, but he doesn't believe in himself. Hasn't since Dad left. Manic looks alot like Dad, and I think he blames himself for Mom being away as she cannot stand to look at him. That's not the reason. When she's drowned in her work, she lets her other problems slip away. It's not him, but no matter how many times I say that it isn't, he doesn't believe me.

I don't know if Sonic has the same complex, he hides anything negative from everyone, and he's gotten real good at hiding it.
