Chapter 3: Bringing Everyone Together
"Hikari!"
"I thought you didn't want to see me."
"Why would you ever think that?" The Digimon asked. "I will always want to see you."
I felt my eyes water with tears. Of course she wouldn't forget me. Suddenly, I felt stupid for ever thinking she didn't want to see me.
"I missed you so much! How are you?"
"I'm good, thanks. I'm sorry to worry you, Hikari. I hope you don't think I forgot about you or anything."
"Of course I don't think that, silly." I said with a smile. "But you got me worried for a while."
"I apologize."
"It's okay, Tailmon."
"So how are you?"
"I'm better now. I wish you could be here with me, but I know it's impossible."
"I'm always with you, Hikari. It may not be personally, but in thoughts."
"Tailmon."
"I think that applies to the others as well." Taichi said. "I miss spending some real time with Agumon but our time is over, as much as it hurts me. I really enjoyed going through everything we did."
"Me too." I said sadly. "It was tough, but I had so much fun. Besides, I could meet the best friends ever. I just regret not being able to join you since the beginning."
"Don't blame yourself." My brother put a hand on my shoulder. "You were sick, I wouldn't forgive myself if something serious happened to you and I couldn't bring you back to Earth."
"I know."
"I wish I could stay and talk to you more, but Agumon is monitoring my area and I have to go back."
"Are you still doing that? I thought it'd be over by now."
"Apparently it worked since the beginning. A major enemy hasn't come since Apocalymon was defeated, but we have fought some bad Digimons."
"Without evolving?"
"They weren't potential enemies, don't worry. We were able to defeat them alone."
"I'm glad."
"I really need to go now, but I will try to reach you soon."
"I'll wait, take care."
"You too, Hikari. Bye."
"Bye."
"Are you happy now?" Taichi asked me as he turned off the computer.
"Yeah, I'm glad I got to see her."
"You know what I was thinking?"
"You think? Now that's a surprise." I mocked.
"Ha ha, very funny." He stuck his tongue at me. "I was thinking of getting everyone together."
"The eight of us you mean?"
"Yeah, it's been a while since we all reunited. It's sad we stopped meeting since we got back from the Digital World. I mean, I remain friends with everyone, but I can't say the same about the others."
"I know, it's awful." I looked down and then up again. "Let's do it!"
"Really?"
"Yeah, why not? August 1st is already gone, but we can work something up for tomorrow."
"You think so? I don't know if tomorrow is good day for something."
"What do you mean?"
"August 3rd." He said looking at me. "The day Wizardmon died."
"I completely forgot! But I think it's a good reason to gather everyone together again."
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely. Deep down I know this is everyone's wishes. I bet we are all missing each other."
"I guess so." He shrugged.
"Come on, Taichi." I said cheerfully. "You can talk to Koushiro and Jyou while I invite Sora and tell Takeru about it. I'll ask him to bring Yamato along."
"What about Mimi? She's in the USA."
"Yeah, that would be a problem." I paused, trying to come up with a solution for that. "Maybe we can contact her via skype or something. I'm sure Koushiro will solve this issue."
"Okay, it's a deal then."
"It's a deal." I said with a large smile on my face.
*****
As I was leaving my ballet class later that day, I saw Sora taking her usual tennis class. I walked towards the court and watched her play for a while, until she noticed me.
"Hello, Hikari."
"Hey, Sora." I said cheerfully.
"The class is over for today, Sora." Her teacher announced. "You're free to go."
"Thanks." She bowed down a little in a respectful way and then headed towards me. "How are you?"
"I'm great, thanks." I replied. "What about you?"
"Great too. Just a little tired from practicing."
"I know the feeling. Listen, I want to bring everyone together."
"What?"
"I miss spending time with the others. I don't like the fact we lost touch, we used to be so close."
"I know what you mean, I miss it too."
"So what do you say?"
"I'm not sure, Hikari." I noticed she was avoiding eye contact with me. "We all moved on and have other things to do."
"But we can always find time for our friends, if we want to."
"I don't know, Hikari." She looked past my shoulder and became pale.
I turned my head to where she was looking and saw Takeru with Yamato on their way out of the school.
"Hey, Takeru!" I waved my hand so he could see me.
"What are you doing?" Sora asked me nervously.
"What? I wanna talk to them, they're our friends." I turned to her again. "What's wrong with you, Sora? It seems like you don't want to talk to them at all."
"It's not that." She shook her head. "It's just… nevermind."
"Alright then."
"Hello, Hikari. Hey, Sora." Takeru said cheerfully. "Long time, no see."
"I know." She tried to put on her best smile. "How are you?"
"I'm great, just busy with school and everything."
"Tell me about it." She quickly glanced at the tennis court. "You've really grown up. You too, Yamato."
"Thanks, I guess." He blushed a little. What was wrong with these two?
"So are you planning on joining a tennis competition soon?"
"Maybe, I don't know." She shrugged. "I think I still have a long way to go, but my teacher thinks I'm ready, so…"
"Well, I think you'd be great at it. I would definitely go see you play."
"I'd be a disaster, but thank you."
"Why do you always think so poorly of yourself?" Yamato asked her in a rather harsh way, catching her completely by surprise.
A heavy tension grew between all of us. I clapped my hands once as if I had just thought of something, to lighten the mood.
"Since we are all here, I was thinking of reuniting everyone again."
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah." I looked at Takeru. "I talked to Tailmon earlier and it made me realize how much I miss you guys. Sure I still talk to some of you often, but Taichi and I decided to gather everyone."
"These days bring a lot of memories back, don't they?"
"Absolutely, and I want to celebrate them with you all again."
"I'm up for it." Takeru looked at his brother. "What about you, Yama?"
"I guess, whatever you decide is fine by me." He said in his usual cool way.
"Great!" I said cheerfully. "It's settled then. I need to know if Taichi talked to Jyou and Koushiro."
"Wait, when is it gonna be?"
"Tomorrow. We can meet here and then decide where to go."
"Are you coming too, Sora?"
"I think so, Takeru. But what about Mimi? She's in the United States."
"That's right."
"Don't worry, she can participate via skype. I wish she could be in person, but unfortunately it's impossible."
"Well, it's better than nothing."
"Now, if you excuse me, I need to see if Taichi did his part. I will send a text message to everyone later informing the place."
"Okay."
"Hikari, wait up!" Takeru ran to me.
"So…" Sora tried to start a conversation with Yamato. "I don't see you around that much. Is the band keeping you busy?"
"Yeah, you can say that." He put a hand behind his head. "I spend more time running away from the girls than anything."
"I bet you love the fact they can do anything to get a piece of you."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It wasn't supposed to come out like that." She immediately regretted saying it. "Rock stars usually love to get girls' attention."
"I got that." He said while he walked away from her.
"Yamato, I'm sorry. Please, come back here. Yamato." She sighed when she realized he wasn't coming back.
"Already?" Takeru asked when he saw his brother coming over. "I thought you'd be talking to Sora a little longer."
"Well, it didn't go quite well." He shrugged. "I swear you have to stop doing this. There's no way it can work out."
"Am I missing something?" I asked with a confused look on my face.
"No, Hikari. There's nothing to be missed. Nothing is going on, Takeru just had this stupid idea on his mind."
"It's not stupid! Just look at you."
"Alright, let's change the subject."
"I really have to go, Takeru. I need to take care of other things for the meeting tomorrow."
"Okay, if you need anything, let me know."
"Sure, bye."
"Bye."
"What the hell was that about?" Yamato asked his brother after I was away enough not to hear it.
"Why can't you just admit your feelings already?"
"What feelings?" He said loudly. "It's impossible to have feelings for her, we haven't talked in years."
"But you see her around, you don't talk to her because you don't want to. You are losing your chance to be happy with her."
"Whatever, Takeru."
"Just don't regret it later when she finds a man that will love her no matter what."
"I won't regret it."
"Okay."
*****
Sora walked in and changed her shoes in the hall. She then headed to her bedroom to drop her tennis belongings. When she entered the living room, she noticed her mother was on the phone.
"Hi, mom."
"Sora, hang on." She lowered the phone. "It's for you."
"Who's it?" She asked. "Everyone knows I have tennis practice at this time."
"It's international."
"Mimi is calling me at this time?" She grabbed the phone and went to her bedroom. "Hello?"
"I would like to speak to Sora Takenouchi, please?"
"This is her."
"I'm from the Wimbledon staff and I would like to confirm some personal information."
"Alright. Information as in address?"
"That's right, and other things too."
"Okay." She sat on her bed. "Ask away."
*****
I arrived home and went to drop my bag in my bedroom. Taichi walked in a few minutes later.
"Hey, sis."
"Hey." I looked at him. "How did it go?"
"Koushiro and Jyou agreed to meet us tomorrow. They also think we should be friends again. And how did it go with Sora and Takeru?"
"Sora was resistant at first, I don't know why." I shrugged. "I was lucky to talk to Takeru and Yamato at the same time, so they are all invited. Yamato didn't seem too excited about it, Sora as well. I thought we all missed each other. Do you know if there's something up with them?"
"Not that I know of." He tried to remember something. "I don't spend time with them together, their schedules never match. But as far as I know, nothing is up."
"They seemed to tense around each other, I couldn't tell what's going on. But now I think it might be…"
"What?" He inquired.
"Nothing." I said quickly. "It would be way too weird."
"Wait… you think she likes him?"
"You're the one saying that, I didn't imply anything."
"Alright."
"So did you tell Koushiro about Mimi's situation?"
"Yeah, he said he'd call and tell her about the meeting. They would also discuss how they would get her to participate."
"Great, so pretty much everything is settled." I said as I grabbed my phone. "Did you tell him the place we're meeting?"
"No, I said you'd text with the location."
"Alright, I'll do this now. What do you think of the park nearby? I believe it's a good choice for everyone, since we all live around."
"That's fine by me."
I nodded as I typed the text and sent to everyone. Then we went to get ready for dinner and bed later.
