A conversation with Eve
5 months later
It was a long, hot afternoon and the John Doe that Mana and Shu had nicknamed Triton was wondering around the house looking for something to do, as both Mana and Shu went shopping with Haruka (they did ask him if he'd like to come with but he said no) when he "accidentally" walked into Mana's room, and stumbled across her diary. Of course, he knew that it was wrong to read a girl's diary, since it contained their thoughts and feelings. But Mana's recent behaviour made him wonder what she was keeping secret so he picked it up and began flipping through each page. Though with each turn of the page Triton became more and more disturbed, as they were filled with things like I heart Shu, or they had hand-drawn pictures of her kissing Shu. Though he soon stopped at a particular page that seemed to mention him, it said
Dear diary
Today was an eventful day, because today Shu and I had a falling out, and it's all Triton's fault. Ever since that boy came into our lives things have changed. For it seems that Shu wants to spend more time with him, rather than spend time with me. But none of that matters since Triton will one day leave him all alone, and the reason why I know this because I've seen it happen, like I have done in the past. And once he leaves I'll swoop in and comfort Shu like I had done in the past.
Unfortunately, he had to cut his reading time short, as he saw Haruka's car pull up onto the driveway. Panicking he dropped the diary on the floor, and ran out of the room, threw himself on the sofa and turned on the TV.
"We're home." Haruka announced.
"Oh hi." Triton said trying not to rouse any suspicion.
"What are you watching?" Shu asked, as he didn't think that what he was watching was not appropriate for children. Even Triton had to admit it wasn't meant for kids so he quickly turned it off, and went to help them unpack. Later that evening when Shu and Triton were playing by the beach, Mana went to her room, and was surprised to find her diary on the floor. Letting her know that there was someone in here, because she normally left her diary under her mattress.
"How did you get here?" She questioned whilst picking it up off the ground. She then added a new entry detailing how happy she was to finally be able to spend time with Shu and she didn't have to put up with Triton. The only problem was that Haruka was standing between them, but none of that mattered, because soon she will get everything she wanted eventually. The next day whilst Haruka, Kurosu and Triton were out, Mana and Shu were sitting on the living room having a discussion about marriage.
"Marry who?" Shu asked.
"I don't know yet, maybe it will be Triton." Mana answered.
"TRITON! You can't marry him."
"I'm just kidding, I would never marry him. Though I have noticed him staring at me, leering at me." Mana stated.
"Do you not want him too?" Shu grilled.
"Well maybe not him, but maybe you could." Mana uttered.
"Why me?"
"Because Shu, I love you." Mana replied, she then leaned in towards him and kissed him on the lips, leaving Shu in such a shocked state that all he could do was blush and then smile after she pulled away. He also noticed there were these strange purplish crystals crawling up the side of her face.
What they didn't know was that Triton and Haruka had returned from their trip early, and he witnessed the whole ordeal. It left him feeling a little empty inside, and even though he was an only child he knew that brothers and sisters don't normally do things like that. Things got a little awkward after that, especially when Shu pointed that he was standing in the doorway.
"Hi Triton, you're home early." Shu remarked.
"Well it was just a routine check-up. The doctor said that I'm a clean bill of health." Triton said nervously, whilst also trying to avoid Mana's gaze. Because he knew that she hated him for interrupting her alone time with Shu.
Later that same night before going to bed Mana and Triton had a frightening confrontation, that's when he saw the crystals on her skin.
"What do you want Triton?" Mana interrogated.
"You have the virus Mana, I've seen what it does to people, it makes them crazy." Triton declared. His little declaration really got under Mana's skin, she hated being called crazy by anyone including her little brother. In fact, it annoyed her so much that she revealed her true nature.
"What you saw was just a taste of what the virus can do, this virus will be the next stage of evolution and I was chosen to be the queen of the new world." Triton was shocked by Mana's confession, he didn't expect her to answer him, and in such a dark and sinister tone.
"Tell me, what do you want with Shu?"
"Listen Triton, if it wasn't for me you'd be lying dead on that beach, that means I own you and I can do whatever I want to you." Mana teased. She then leaned in for a kiss, but she pulled away at the last second and gave the most wicked smirk.
"You really want to know what I'm planning to do with my little brother, well let's just say every kingdom needs a king." Mana said with a wink and a giggle. They then heard the door to Shu's room open.
"I thought I heard you two talking, quite loudly might I add." Shu stated.
"Sorry Shu, we didn't mean to wake you." Triton responded.
"That's okay, I was getting up to get a drink anyway." Shu alleged.
"Are you all packed for tomorrow Shu?" Mana asked putting on an innocent accent. Shu nodded, he then headed to the kitchen and took a drink of ice-cold water, before going back to bed. As soon as Shu was out of sight Mana turned to face Triton, and once again losing her good girl disguise.
"Tomorrow we're going to Tokyo to spend Christmas with Haruka's family, I'm hoping we could visit the Roppongi district. I heard it's lovely this time of year, lots of romantic locations to make a proposal." Mana commented "And if you reveal any of this to Shu I will not hesitate to end your miserable existence. Oh, and by the way Shu also has the virus, it's been growing inside of him for years and is only now showing signs of being infected." She added. She then headed to bed, leaving Triton alone, and he was shocked by Mana's sudden change in personality. It was as if she was becoming someone else entirely, and it scared him. He had to warn Shu about his sister, because he feared for his safety. He had to protect him even if it cost him his life.
