Chapter Three

"Don't be so stupid" Maya spoke as she had another visit from her mother (and legal barrister).

Henrietta could barely look her daughter in the eye. They were discussing childcare and her legal case. Maya had made it quite clear that she doesn't want David to find out, it made her mother suspicious. She claims she didn't have sex with this Jacob yet she was terrified at the mere thought of them doing a DNA test when the baby is born to prove David is the father and thus, acquit her from the accused crime. Henrietta kept telling her it will make her case look a damn sight better if they have proof David is the father.

"Only people with secrets refuse DNA tests" Henrietta reminded her.

"Why should I have to prove anything? I know David is the father, are you actually accusing me of this, mother? I just don't want David to have any involvement!" Maya paused slightly, adding "He forced me to meet him and then told awful lies to the police"

"Forced you" Henrietta remarked with a laugh.

"He did...then his crazy ex-girlfriends chased me through the woods and tried to kill me, Leyla thought she did...I was so scared, mother...and people wonder why Jacob likes me more then his family"

"Maya, he sent you obscene photographs and you thanked him for them; I've read them"

"I'm sorry...he was a handsome teenaged lad, I felt flattered and my mind was all messed up at the time; I was going through a divorce with Liam, how can you even accuse me of that? That's something dirty men do to young girls"

"And you too...apparently"

"No! I would never do that, I know how it feels to be a teenager with an older lover and I know how hard it is, why would I do that to somebody else?"

"Older lover? Even now, Maya; you can't see right from wrong can you? Ethan wasn't your older lover...he abused your trust just like how you abused Jacob's...listen to me, if you can look me in the eye and tell me it didn't go beyond the text messages, I will believe you"

Maya looked her mother in the eyes however she couldn't lie. She just broke down into tears (she almost looked like the vulnerable 15 year old girl she once was) Though she no longer was that girl, she was a grown woman now. Her mother's face turned to disgust when she realized the truth. Her own daughter couldn't look her in the eye and tell her nothing happened (because something did happen). As her barrister, she wanted her to admit to everything but as her mother; she just wanted her to say nothing.

"Nothing else happened" Maya finally spoke; sticking to her original story.

"I can't even do this right now, you know what...I thought I could separate my own feelings from my job but I can't; I was stupid for even thinking I could! I don't want anything to do with you anymore or this disgusting thing you got growing inside you, if you ever try to contact me again, I will tell this David everything" Henrietta promised.

Getting up as she was ready to go, she picked up her coat and began putting it on.

"Mum...please don't go!" Maya pleaded.

Though Henrietta just shook her head, making her way out; she wouldn't be coming back this time. A rather hysterical Maya tried to follow her however the guards had to stop her. Having to restrain her with a rather tight grip. Her mother just quickly made her way out, taking one last glance this time. Seeing her daughter for what she was scared her so much and she ran away in a panic. That's what happened just then. Maya was losing control over everything, this baby would have to stay with her now in the mother and baby unit.

...

"Where should I send it?" Maya asked Jacob; referring to the baby scan.

Her mother didn't want it, so Jacob was her only other option. Jacob seemed surprised at her change of heart from last week. She was willing to risk it and send it to him, he was rather keen so he agreed. Thinking about where it could go, he just told her to send it to 'The Grange' hotel and he will pick it up.

"I'm always here these days...I moved out David's ages ago, as soon as the post comes; I will be there, so send it here" Jacob further explained.

"What if Eric gets hold of it first?"

"He won't...I promise; I can't believe your so-called mum has done this to you" Jacob quickly paused quickly as his grandfather appeared and had overheard that exchange, he quickly added "Your mum has always been a pain though, Gabby"

"What?"

"Granddad is back...he will go mad I been calling you here, I told you I needed phone credit; don't tell Liv about our little conversation and don't tell Bernice what I said"

"Oh...right; okay, I will call you next week?"

"Make sure you do, bye" Jacob replied.

The phone-call went dead soon after. Jacob turned back towards Eric with a nervous sigh, he hoped that was convincing. He just gave him a surprised look, making his way to the seat as he sat at the desk.

"You been talking to Gabby again?" Eric questioned.

"Yeah...we patched things up, don't make a big deal out of it though; Gabby is still really embarrassed about how our relationship ended last time, she was just telling me how intrusive her mum was being"

"About you two?"

"Obviously...just please don't make a big deal out of things; I don't want Liv to get the wrong idea either"

"Right, well I'm just happy you're back to dealing with girls your own age"

"Me too...see ya later"

Jacob quickly made his way back upstairs with a nervous sigh. He really hoped his grandfather brought all that. Though he was nervous that he would tell his parents and they would talk to Gabby. Though he had to think on the spot there, he felt like he had no choice but to lie. He was getting better at it thanks to Maya. He was thinking about calling Gabby but chose against it, he couldn't.

...

Feeling like he had no choice now but to try and make it look more legit, Jacob called round at Gabby's. He was greeted at the door by a rather confused Bernice, he asked if Gabby was in and she said yes. She called over Gabby and the girl made her way over towards Jacob, wanting to see what he wanted. Leanna sat on the steps to be nosy as she gave a sarcastic wave to Jacob.

"What do you want?" Gabby asked Jacob.

"I don't know...can we talk in private?"

"Bit too young for you isn't she? Be careful Gabby, he will want you to wear your mother's clothing soon" Leanna piped up.

"Shut up Leanna...of cause we can, come on" Gabby gently spoke before shutting the door.

Making her way out with Jacob, she gave a nervous smile; it's been a while since they had any sort of proper conversation. He's been so busy with everything lately, Gabby felt sorry for him. It did explain why he went weird with her after they slept together last year. It wasn't because she was his first, it was because he didn't want her to be his first. When the Maya thing came out, it made her understand his reaction more. She was no longer angry at him, she just pitied him.

"I guess I just wanted to say sorry for how I treated you these last few months" Jacob began.

"It wasn't your fault...Maya manipulated you"

"What?"

"I mean...when me and you had...well you know, I understand why you were being funny with me now but it's okay; she's gone now and we can be friends again, if you want to be that is"

"No...I can't be friends with someone who thinks that of her; I'm sorry" Jacob then spoke.

Letting his mask slip slightly,he was clearly not that good of a liar; he just quickly made his way away from Gabby. Though the girl tried to follow him, she could see that something was still going on. The way he randomly knocked around for no particular reason, she was worried for him.

"Oh my God...you're still in with her aren't you? Were you just trying to use me like you used Liv? Because that's disgusting" Gabby hissed.

"You're the disgusting one...dropping your knickers for the first lad who would have you, the only reason I did anything with you was because I knew you were easy...Maya should have been my first, not you"

"That's just her talking"

"No it's not...it's me talking, I will tell you exactly what I thought after we did it at the party last year, I felt violated and even looking at you after it made me feel sick for days; you made me feel sick"

"I don't believe that"

"I don't care what you believe...it's the truth, I hated you after it"

"You won't get anywhere with that attitude, I don't know what poor Liv ever did to deserve you...I actually felt sorry for you when I heard about what happened and I still do but all this anger is because of Maya, you use to be so nice before she came into the picture, it's her you should hate"

"She just cared for me and loved me, she actually asked me about my feelings...unlike everyone else who just treated me like I was a little kid"

"Me and Liv cared for you too"

"No you didn't...you didn't care for me at all, the way you were both so horrible to me on my 16th birthday...Liv couldn't even do anything with me because she found me disgusting and you just hated me"

"What? Liv finds sex difficult...it has nothing to do with you! Not everything is about you...as for me, I didn't hate you; I just didn't want you to drink yourself into an oblivion!"

"Whatever...I don't want anything to do with you or your bitchy little roommate" Jacob hissed, referring to Leanna on the last part.

He was seemly being pushed right back into Maya's arms. Running back to her was his sick little way of coping with hardship.

...

The little visit from her mother had brought her to the attention of her new inmates. They overheard most of the conversation, so she was Maya Stepney. Not Mary as they were originally led to believe. She retreated back to her cell, her cellmate Paula just giving her a steely look. As a mother to one child already, Paula was not impressed that she had to share a cell with her. Now she knows who she is...she did think she was a mardy cow but never could have guessed her crimes.

"God...I can't believe they put you in a mother and baby unit...No wonder you didn't want to speak to us, you just wanted to keep your sick little crimes to yourself, didn't ya?" Paula snarled.

"I'm innocent" Maya persisted.

"You're not though...you pleaded guilty, do you think we are stupid? Even now, you think you're better then us because you got a posh barrister for a mum; God, I'm just glad your mum has morals"

"You don't know anything"

"I know enough and it's not pretty...you make me feel sick"

Maya just bit her top lip, making her way up to the top bunk. The only thing stopping Paula giving Maya her just deserts was her pregnancy. No, she wouldn't want to risk that (however she and many others thought the child will have no chance regardless). Having Maya as it's mother. It just will have little chance of ever being able to lead a non-complicated life, Maya seemed to be keeping the baby for control and nothing else. She knew Leyla will have a fit when she finds out.
