Author's Notes: The romance between Elisa and Goliath begins in this chapter. And for those who may have forgotten, Elisa kissed Goliath at the end of Hunter's Moon part 3, so romance between the two is heavily hinted.

Comforting Moments

After a long night of chasing down criminals, Elisa walked into her apartment. There were a few busts and a couple get a-ways, but overall it was a good night. The Gargoyles helped as best as they could, but they even weren't fast enough for a few get a-ways. Elisa had hoped it would be a little easier now with her winged friends being actual New York citizens, however that wasn't the case. Crime never stopped, and it was very obvious the Gargoyles couldn't patrol every inch of the city.

Removing her bomber jacket and holster, she placed her gun in a locked drawer. It didn't take her long to remove her shoes and walked towards her living room, dropping the keys on the coffee table and took a seat on the couch, placing her head on the back. She closed her eyes for a few moments. "A shower would do good before heading to bed."

She sat on the couch for several moments before finally deciding to get up to take that shower and head to bed. As she got up to head to her bedroom, a sudden tap on the window stopped her. She knew no one could get to her skylight window, so that meant there was only one person who it could have been. She looked over to her window to see a big lavender Gargoyle smiling at her.

She smiled back and went over to open the window. He walked in without saying a word and allowed her to shut the window before speaking.

"Tonight…" he started.

"Was really different," Elisa finished, thinking back to Angela's announcement. "Angela wishing for us to make peace with Demona, was not something I was expecting. Though I must admit, it's a step in the right direction. It's going to take some getting used to speak to Demona without getting into a feud."

"I agree," Goliath replied. "I just hope Angela knows what she is doing. I wouldn't want to see her hurt again. She has every right to bond with her mother as much as she bonded with me, but Demona lived those 1000 years, alone, and angry at the humans."

"The concerned father," Elisa joked. Goliath gave her an odd look. "I remember when I moved out my parents home, my father was worried about me. He would call everyday. It wasn't so bad when I got out of the Police Academy. Even to this day he still is a concerned father."

"You're father has watched his daughter bloom right before his eyes. My daughter was hidden on Avalon."

"And if you were able to see your daughter grow, she wouldn't call you father or you call her daughter."

"I do agree with you there." Goliath moved away from the window, taking a seat on the couch. It was amazing the furniture was able to take his weight. "And I would not know what the future would bring or be friends with you."

"As many say, 'everything happens for a reason'. With all the adventures we had in the past three years, I would say fate brought us together."

"That is very possible," he answered. "We've only been here for three years, but I feel as though I wouldn't want to return to my old world."

Elisa lightly chuckled. "Who would want to? By the way, how did you know I was here?" she asked as she went to the fridge to get a drink and then took a seat beside Goliath.

"After booking the last collar, I noticed you left the station without Matt. Assuming you left work early, I followed you," he simply said. "So why did you get off early?"

"Captain Chavez allowed me to take the last couple hours off. She has requested me to come in a little early."

"I won't see you when I wake tomorrow then?"

"No, unfortunately. But there are going to be days like that."

"You should bring your Captain to the castle sometime. I think she'd be amazed at the beauty of the city from the towers on a clear night. And the courtyard does give her the feeling of the ancient times."

"I know." Elisa bent down to remove her socks, giving her toes a wiggle. "I need to let my feet air out more often." She paused a moment, before glancing where her boots rested. "And it wouldn't hurt to get a new pair of boots. The ones I have worn right out from all the running of I've done."

"Bringing down criminals can be a very hard job."

She leaned her head back, eyes closing. "You can say that again."

For several minutes both Elisa and Goliath were quiet. "Elisa," he finally said. He turned towards her. "I have never really had the chance to ask you. But I'm curious that night when we returned to the castle, why did you kiss me that morning?"

Elisa looked at Goliath and a slight blush appeared on her cheeks. She could vividly still remember when she abruptly kissed him just as the sun rose, preventing him from being able to say anything. The next several nights after that, she had to help her precinct to have everything transferred to a temporary location while the regular one would be repaired.

The first night Goliath and Elisa finally had time together, she had full intentions to discuss the matter, which was why she pulled out her best non formal dress. But their night was ruined when the Quarrymen attacked, destroying their peace. Now, they had the chance to speak about it once more.

She took a deep breath before lifting her head and faced him. "I'm not sure. I have strong feelings for you and when I nearly died and then Jason saved my life, I was relieved to know I didn't miss the chance. I just…" she didn't have any more time to speak.

While Goliath watched Elisa rest her head as he could see she was collecting her thoughts. He too could vividly remember that night of the Hunter's Moon. Every time he thought he could get a chance to ask her, something would interrupt him. Now was the perfect opportunity. He continued to watch her as she began to her explanation and something in his very being was telling something and he couldn't ignore it. Getting bold, Goliath leaned forward, capturing her lips with his in a small kiss.

She looked at him as he looked at her lovingly. "I-I don't understand," she whispered, heart thumping against her ribcage. If she spoke any louder, she feared that her voice would squeak from excitement. Yes the two admitted they cared for one another very strongly, but to have him act upon it, she was not expecting that.

Goliath grasped both of her hands as he spoke. "You and I have been friends for the past three years. That night when we thought we lost you, I was grief stricken. My heart sank even further than when I thought Demona was gone. I tried to save you but you slipped from my grasp and I felt it was my fault."

"But Goliath, you can't..." She was immediately silence by one of his talons.

"Let me finish." The talon left her lips as he continued. "Then you came back to us. We stopped the hunters and Demona's plans and were rescued by Xanatos. You arrived at the castle just as the sun started to rise and kissed me. I knew then in my heart I was making the right choice. But the Quarrymen stopped me from expressing what I wanted to say. Then it was business as usual again.

"For the second time, I thought I once again lost you. I cursed myself for never telling you." Elisa kept silent, allowing the large Gargoyle to speak. She could see he was being completely truthful to her. "We've finally been accepted by humans, which is something I've struggled since I became leader of my clan. And now I have a third chance to say what is my heart and I'm not going to let the moment pass by again."

The two indirectly had already told each other their feelings but it was never properly stated. Was he actually going to say the words to her and make their feelings a full reality?

"I never thought I could love again after Demona, but I had too much doubt then. I didn't even know if we were going to be able to survive in this new world. A world in which went from hard working to having machines do the work for you. Magic disappeared and science became this world's 'magic'. Well I must say, I'm glad I was wrong.

"You have brought hope into my life. I closed the doors to everyone and then you were able to wedge it open, by showing me trust and respect. You have crumbled the ice wall that surrounded my heart." Goliath took a moment to pause before continuing. "I never thought it was possible but…I have fallen in love with you." He took one of Elisa's hands and brought it to his lips and kissed her hand.

Elisa gasped at his forwardness. But it surprised her more that in her heart of hearts she had already knew that the gargoyle loved her. For the moment Elisa was stunned but soon enough, her ice wall also crumbled. "Goliath," she whispered. "I feel the same way."

He looked at her asking himself if he was hearing her correctly.

"I'm in love with you too," she declared.

Goliath smiled but the smile vanished when Elisa moved forward and kissed him with more passion. Goliath wrapped his arms and wings around her, surrounding her like shell. He wasn't going to let her go. They could never have a proper relationship, but it would seem neither of them really cared about being 'normal'.

All too soon reality crashed on the both of them. Soon it was going to be sunrise and it would be best for Goliath to be back at the castle by sunrise. Reluctantly, the two pulled away from one another.

"I had better get going. You have to get an early start tomorrow and I would like you to get a good sleep." His hand cupped her cheek and she leaned into it.

"Yes," she quietly said. "I will see as soon as I can. But what should we tell the others?"

He smiled. "Hudson and Angela, I'm sure, already suspect so they will be no problem. The others we'll tell together, but will need to wait until we have a chance together."

Elisa nodded. She stood up, moving away from the protectiveness of his wings and walked back to the window. Goliath followed her. When he reached the window, her back was to him. He grasped her by the waist and pulled her to him, wrapping his wings around her again.

"Until nightfall then, my love," he whispered in her ear.

Elisa turned in his arms. She placed her hand on his lips. "Until nightfall." Goliath quickly bent and kissed her briefly before releasing her. He opened the window and stepped out. She stayed in the window.

Turning back to her, he remained silent, knowing there wasn't anything more to be said. He caressed her cheek once again before jumping into the air and catching the first available air current to allow him to glide towards the castle, which would eventually allow him to reach higher heights. Elisa watched him until he was no longer in site. With a sigh, she closed the window and disappeared into the bathroom to take her shower, the whole time thinking about the lavender gargoyle.

After her shower, she quickly grabbed something to eat before making her way to the bedroom for a day of rest. Her dreams were full of her new found love, Goliath, leader of the Gargoyles. There was only one problem she was going to have with this new relationship… telling her family that she chose a Gargoyle over a human. Her brother was probably going to be no problem, since he was a mutated Gargoyle. But her parents and sister, that was another matter, however it was her life. And truth be told, she wasn't highly interested in raising a family. Her job was too risky and she always felt bad for the families who lost a loved one while on duty. It was the one part of being a cop that she highly detested.

As she slept, she was completely unaware of a shadow that crept into her room. The shadow turned into a female magical figure with green skin.

"Sleep now my child and rest," the woman said, quietly. "You have protected my daughter and grandson and now it's time for me to return the favor and protect you. If what has been predicted comes to pass, you will need all the allies you can manage."

"What are you doing here my love?" a male voice asked.

The woman turned to the new visitor. "My Lord, please allow me to protect her and her clan."

"You know we can not interfere with the humans."

"If everything happens as we were fore told, the humans are not going to be the only people affected. We are too."

The male figure looked to the sleeping woman before looking back to his queen. "Why do you wish to help the woman?"

"You know she saved my daughter and grandson."

"Yes, this is true." He sighed. "Very well, you may do as you please, but remember we can't completely be involved."

"Of course, my Lord." Queen Titania, of Avalon watched the Detective for a few moments longer before turning away, to face her husband and Lord, Oberon. The two soon vanished, traveling back to Avalon, where they belong.
