Chapter 3 – Settling In

Upon their approach to the Telmarine castle, the group was stopped by an escort that had been sent to greet them. It was a mixture of shock and joy that the people who were apart of the escort felt when they saw the Kings and Queens of Old, and while the Narnians were certainly filled with joy, the Telmarines weren't entirely sure what to think. They hadn't gotten to know the Narnian Kings and Queens before, they hadn't stayed long enough, and were quite content with their King Caspian and didn't know what this would do to the monarchy, and the succession. The humans were all given horses to complete their journey and Kim climbed up behind Tommy, never having ridden a horse before while Tommy knew enough to control the horse as they went through the city at a slow walk. As they entered the gates, the Pevensies proved again that they certainly were royalty as they graciously accepted the praise of the people; Susan and Lucy even accepting flowers from some children who obviously remembered them from their previous visit. Arriving at the castle itself, an honour guard of centaurs stood at attention as their Kings and Queens approached, drawing their swords and raising them in salute. As they drew nearer to the castle the doors opened and a man stepped out closely followed by more Telmarines and Narnians. The man who led the group could only be the King Caspian Tommy and Kim had heard of and he certainly looked the part, standing above the others in both presence and dress, though some did not look to be far behind him. Tommy and Kim supposed that they were now seeing the nobility of this realm, for while they were people just like those in the town they'd passed through, their proximity to the King and their rich dress clearly indicated they were of a different station, one the two Rangers were not use to, but would evidently have to become accustomed with. The nobles all bowed as the Pevensies dismounted and climbed the steps to meet them, most hiding their shock at seeing the Kings and Queens of Old again well. However, one of their number did not hide it and had in fact not moved an inch since coming to a stop upon seeing the Pevensies.

"Caspian." Peter greeted with a smile and a nod of his head, bringing Caspian out of his reverie. Edmund gave a similar greeting while Lucy went in for a hug. Susan, however, stood back and off the side and it was to her that Caspian's attention was directed.

"My Queen." He murmured finally, being the first to break the silence.

"King Caspian. It is a pleasure to see you again." Susan replied, having remembered her courtly manners.

"And you, my Queen." Kim nudged Tommy when she witnessed this greeting, telling him through their bond that there was something going on between the two but that something wasn't right. Tommy begged his girlfriend to leave it alone and not to get involved but he knew it was a lost cause; Kim would find out what was going on and would do everything she could to see their relationship problems come to an end. When Caspian finally forced himself to turn from the Gentle Queen, Caspian greeted the other Pevensies before turning to the only two he didn't recognize.

"These are our new friends." Edmund introduced. "Lady Kimberly and Lord Thomas."

"My Lady." Caspian murmured as he bent over her hand and kissed the back of it before clasping hands with Tommy who told the King to call him just that, having never been called Thomas except in anger by Kim or his mother. Caspian then led them all inside to the great hall where Aslan began filling them all in.

"A new danger is threatening Narnia." He said.

"No kidding." Edmund muttered, earning a sharp look from his elder sister. "Well we ran into it didn't we?" He defended.

"Yes, but it was not to those enemies from another world that I spoke of."

"You mean there's another threat?" Lucy asked. "One native to here? To Narnia?"

"Yes, Dear One." Aslan said sadly. "The dark creatures that once followed Jadis are on the move."

"What do they plan?" Peter asked, somehow not surprised that these creatures were once again causing trouble. It may have been their ancestors that he'd fought during the Golden Age, but it was always Hags, Werewolves and the like causing problems.

"I am not sure." The Great Lion admitted. "I would say they seek power, but how they will go about it is now a mystery to me for there is now an unknown entity at play." He turned to face Tommy and Kim and the two sighed but nodded their heads.

"Goldar." Tommy muttered.

"W-who is Goldar?" Caspian asked.

"An enemy of ours." Kim replied. "One hell bent on destroying the world." Caspian was quickly filled in on the key facts and though he didn't understand a lot of what they said, he understood having enemies wanting to kill you.

"So how do we fight an enemy we don't know?" Lucy then wondered.

"You don't." said Tommy. "That's what we're here for."

"Or we can learn everything we can about him." Edmund countered, ever the strategist. "We may not know the enemy now, but we will."

"We've been fighting Goldar for two years and the only thing we've learned is that he's pretty stupid, but really powerful. You don't stand a chance against him."

"But you do?" Peter shot back. "We've fought powerful enemies before."

"Not like this you-"

"Tommy." Kim interrupted with a soft hand on his shoulder and a shake of her head. Tommy sighed but yielded to her.

"What Tommy means is that you haven't fought this kind of power before." She told their new friends. "We're also not used to other beings who can fight our enemies. In our world…we're it. Us and our friends are our world's only defense against them. We're guardians of the Earth, it's our job to protect our planet and all the people living there, so letting anyone but us go up against them goes against everything we know and are. It's going to take some time to get used to the idea that others can fight Goldar."

"And time to not panic at the very thought of it." Tommy offered by way of apology, which none of them could do anything but accept; they all understood worrying when loved ones went up against a great power and the fact that these two worried this much over people they barely knew spoke volumes about them. The group spoke a bit longer, Caspian wanted to hold a feast in honour of the Pevenies' return to Narnia, but Susan and Lucy put their foot down and said there was no way they would appear before the court after a long day's travel, especially as they had nothing else to wear. Unable to fight them, Caspian put it off, but the feast turned into a ball, much to the boys' annoyance and girls' delight.

"But I don't know how to dance." Kim told the two Queen's when they started in on how much fun she'd have and reminiscing of their first balls. "Or act in this world at all, let alone at a formal event in front of a lot of people."

"You'll be fine." Susan said reassuringly.

"Besides, the whole point is to dance in the arms of your love all night. I'm sure you won't even know anyone else is there." Lucy teased.

"And you would know about that kind of thing would you?" The Pink Ranger asked sceptically.

"You're forgetting that we were older once." Susan reminded her. "Fifteen years older to be precise."

"That's plenty old enough to have a few beaux, and as a Queen you're never lacking for admirers. Though none of us had a love like you seem to."

"Tommy and I were destined to be together." She replied a bit dreamily.

"It must be nice to be so in love to feel like fate brought you together." Susan murmured, unable to help turning her gaze to Caspian.

"Yes, but I meant we were literally destined to be together. Our love and the power we share was foretold long ago." Susan and Lucy looked confused and so she elaborated. "Very long story short, there is an ancient order of warriors called the Ninjetti who were sworn to protect everything that is light and goodness in the universe. They've existed since the dawn of time and some of them had powers beyond the others. One of them was a seer and could see glimpses of the future. She saw us and our friends becoming Ninjetti, and she saw that two of us would be bound together by The Great Power, their love giving them power and strength that is unbeatable, at least when it comes to their mate. If anything ever threatens Tommy there is no power in the universe that can stop me from protecting him, and him me if I'm in danger."

"That's so romantic." Lucy gushed. Kim merely smiled, though she couldn't really deny that claim. After a quiet dinner, shortly before which Aslan departed, promising to return soon, Caspian jumped up as if suddenly remembering something before running out of the room, telling the others to remain. They waited in suspense for his return, though it turned to joy, for one of them at least, when they saw what he returned with.

"I kept it safe as I promised." Caspian said to Peter as he passed him Rhindon. "I return it to you as I said I would, now that you are returned to Narnia."

"Thank you." Peter said, unsheathing the sword and admiring the blade and the words inscribed on it.

" 'When Aslan bears his teeth, winter meets its death.' " He recited.

" 'When he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.' " Susan finished for him this time. This drew everyone's attention to her and Caspian chose that moment to pull something wrapped in a cloth from his belt where he'd tucked it.

"I believe this belongs to you." He murmured. Susan took hold of the item and unwrapped it, revealing her horn. Susan smiled softly and wondering if she should read anything into the fact that he'd kept it all this time instead of returning it to their treasury as he had the other items, before promptly shutting down those thoughts, knowing they couldn't lead anywhere. Still, she could not deny they existed and so did with her horn as she had once before when he'd presented it to her.

"Keep it." She murmured back, holding the horn out and looking up into his brown eyes and feeling her heart beat faster as he stared back into hers.

"Given what happened the last time you left it with me, I'd feel much better if you had a way to call me should you be in trouble." He replied, gently pushing the horn back towards her. Susan couldn't help the smile that lit her face when he said he'd feel better if she could call him specifically, not just for help in generl, but once again she stomped any accompanying feelings down and merely nodded her head.

"I do believe it is time to retire." She said. "Lucy, let us show Kimberly her chamber." The younger queen nodded, not fighting Susan essentially telling her it was bedtime and the three girls went off after Kim said goodnight to Tommy; both remembering the Pevensies' words that they could not participate in too much PDA and so keeping their goodnight PG rated. A maid silently led the way for the queens for they had only stayed in the castle a few days before leaving Narnia, and though it had only been two months for them and not two years, they had no illusions they would remember the way around the castle. Finally they arrived at the chambers that had been assigned to them, the queens bidding Kim goodnight before heading into their own chambers. Kim entered her room and gasped, it really was like a fairy tale princess' room. There was a fire burning in the fireplace, candles everywhere, all giving off an ambience Kim wasn't used to what with electricity. A four poster bed stood against the wall with what looked like a treasure chest from old pirate movies standing at its foot, and a wardrobe that stood off to the side. Kim went to the window which overlooked the courtyard and the nearby town and it finally hit her that she was in a real medieval castle, or at least one close enough to Earth's medieval era. Her musings were interrupted by the arrival of two maids who had come to prepare her for bed. One had a bath drawn, the wooden tub and buckets of water being carried in by an army of servants, while the other helped her out of her dress. Kim greatly enjoyed the bath after walking through the woods for two days and while she would not deny being pampered by these women who'd been sent to look after her was nice, it was certainly a foreign feeling. After her bath, the women helped her into a nightdress and turned down the bed before leaving. Kim tried to sleep, she really did, but in a strange world, a strange bed, and without Tommy it was proving difficult. She and Tommy had been sneaking into the other's house to spend the night together ever since they released their Animal Spirits. It was not in anyway sexual, or at least sex wasn't the purpose of spending the night together whether it happened or not, but rather it was simply because their Spirits demanded they be together always, making them uncomfortable if they were separated too long. Being apart was actually painful sometimes as the Crane and Falcon cried out for their mate. Tonight was no different and that is what found Kim sneaking out of her room and towards Tommy's. She didn't have to worry about getting lost or entering the wrong room for she knew exactly where to go and which room belonged to her mate. Upon arriving she silently entered his room and smiled seeing that he was waiting for her, the covers pulled down on the empty side of the bed. Smiling brightly Kim ran into the room and joined him, snuggling into his side and falling into a contented sleep almost as soon as he wrapped an arm around her.

The following morning the two were rudely awoken by the arrival of the manservant who had attended Tommy and previous night.

"I'm so sorry my Lord, my Lady." He gasped upon seeing them before quickly retreating.

"This isn't gonna end well is it?" Kim muttered, still half asleep.

"Nope." Tommy responded simply, both of them remembering once what the Pevensies had said about this world being more conservative, but not finding it in them to care at the moment and so the two went back to sleep only to be woken not long later by an irate Susan and Peter.

"It's already all over the castle." Peter informed them.

"We're sorry." Kim replied sincerely though with no true guilt. She'd never be ashamed or feel guilty about being with her mate, but she didn't want to cause the others problems.

"We've told everyone that you are engaged and in your world it is acceptable to share a bed so long as a couple is engaged." Susan explained. "They all took that to mean that an engagement is unbreakable in your world and so is essentially as binding as a marriage and they have accepted it for that reason, but do try not to do anything too shocking in public."

"Or dissuade them of the story we told them." Peter added. "People can be brutal in their scorn for things that deviate from their norm, and we really don't need any more problems." Kim and Tommy nodded and the High King and Queen took their leave.

"That could have been a lot worse." Tommy said after a moment. "And they've basically given us the green light to continue with our sleeping arrangements." It was obvious which part he was the most pleased about.

"But they also said that we have to pretend to be practically married." Kim added, feeling genuinely curious about his thoughts on the subject. Feeling this through their bond, Tommy stared down at his mate and responded seriously.

"I don't' think that's gonna be too hard." He said. "I have to say I don't find the thought of marrying you scary at all. I'm rather looking forward to it someday." This earned him a bright smile, the kind that had the power to turn him to mush, though given they didn't want to push their luck by staying in bed any longer he didn't let it. "Just promise me we won't actually get married until we're back home. I don't wanna know what Trini and Aisha would do if we came home married and they weren't there." That got a laugh for Kim knew they'd be in so much trouble.

"Not to mention Jason." She just had to add, earning a groan.

"He's the bane of my existence."

"Oh he's your best friend and you know it."

"Yeah, but that doesn't mean that he isn't the bane of my existence when he plays overprotective big brother."

"Just remind him that he's not actually older then me and it'll calm him down. It always works for me." When they finally got out of bed Kim snuck back to her room to get dressed only to discover Susan and Lucy and what seemed like a horde of women, waiting for her.

"Look who's finally decided to grace us with her presence." Lucy teased and Kim had to once again remind herself that she was a kid in body only for the insinuation in her words were apparent and not one that normally came from and eight year old.

"Yes, well no more dilly dallying, we have a lot to do." Susan said a little brusquely but Kim got the impression that she wasn't truly upset with her and Tommy sharing a room but was more setting an example for the other women, allowing them to see that the High Queen was of a similar disapproving mind as they were, but would tolerate it due to the customs of their guests' society; an example that Susan obviously not only expected these women to follow, but to also spread about to others as well.

"Yes, sorry." Kim said. "What do you need me to do?"

"Break your fast and then stand on that stool." Susan motioned to a tray of food that stood off to the side. Kim grabbed an apple, never having been one for big breakfasts, and then did as instructed. The moment she was on the stool the women jumped into action and began measuring her, poking and prodding and throwing fabrics around, debating whether they would suit her complexion.

"Um…" Kim muttered between mouthfuls, unsure exactly what was going on.

"You're being fitted for a new wardrobe." Lucy explained. "You can't keep going around in my old dress. Besides, Caspian's planning the ball for next week and we'll need dresses for that."

"So you guys are being fitted too?"

"We already have been." Susan replied. "Things are different here than your world and to make the most of daylight we rise with the sun."

"That's gonna take some getting used to." Kim muttered; teenagers of the twentieth century were not known for being early risers. "Oh, you don't have any pink do you?" She asked one of the woman as she brought over a bolt of blue fabric.

"Certainly my Lady." The woman said and returned with three bolts of pink fabric, all in different shades, and all of which made Kim smile.

"What is your obsession with pink?" Lucy asked.

"It's a Ranger thing." Kim said, only the two Queens knowing what she was referring to, though she still had to elaborate why. "We're known by our colour and I'm the Pink Ranger. It never feels right if we're not wearing our colour. We're not exactly sure why, but it doesn't." Knowing they just had to accept it they let the subject drop.

"What about the boys?" Kim asked after a moment. "Are they getting new clothes?"

"Oh yes." Both Lucy and Susan laughed. "And no doubt they are loudly complaining about it right now."

In Peter's room a hallway over, the Queens' prediction was coming true. Both Peter and Edmund were groaning at being fitted and glaring at Caspian who got to sit off to the side and watch as he already had a fully stocked wardrobe. Tommy was faring no better, having been forcefully removed from his room shortly after Kim left and having stood on this stool ever since.

"If your Lordship would remain still this would go much faster." One of the seamstresses reminded him for what must be the tenth time.

"Sorry, but is it supposed to be so tight?" He asked, referring to the pants before moving on to the stiff neck. While the girls were getting dresses made to their specifications, the boys weren't as picky and so were happy to hurry the process along by using bits that the seamstress already had made.

"Indeed my Lord. I assure you it is the fashion." The one in charge replied.

"But the clothes I was wearing when I got here weren't this bad." He muttered.

"That's because they were travelling clothes, which are always more comfortable than court clothes." Edmund told him. "Not to mention that those were clothes from our chests at Cair Paravel from old Narnia and fashions have changed in thirteen hundred years."

"And they were also my clothes, not yours." Peter added.

"Old or new they're a pain in the ass." Tommy grumbled but resigned himself to his fate, mollified only slightly by feeling Kim's excitement and the thoughts that flew through their bond about her living in a castle and being dressed like a princess, and him being able to play the part of her prince. Eventually the torture session, as Peter and Edmund often called fittings, was over and the boys could escape. Knowing a war was coming, the first thing Peter and Edmund wanted to do was inspect the troops. They knew Caspian would have things well in hand, but they couldn't offer advice and strategize if they didn't know firsthand what they had to work with. Tommy followed them to the training grounds and was quite impressed by what he saw, so too where the Kings of Old.

"Has it really only been two years since we left?" Peter asked.

"Yes." Caspian said with pride, knowing what he was thinking.

"You've really done well, Caspian." Edmund praised. "Both the Telmarine and Narnian armies look to be in great shape."

"They're certainly fighting together far better then I ever thought they would." Peter added.

"Would you care to join them, your Majesty?" Caspian asked. "I seem to remember our last duel was a draw."

"Indeed it was." Peter agreed as he unsheathed Rhindon and led the way out onto the field. "And it's Peter, Caspian, no titles between us."

"Would you like to learn?" Edmund addressed Tommy, who turned his attention from the training soldiers to the Just King. "Sword fighting that is? I know you have your own way of fighting, you certainly proved that yesterday, but it can't hurt to learn another skill."

"It's not a skill I'm entirely unfamiliar with." Tommy said, thinking both of Saba and his time using the Sword of Darkness. "Not like this." Tommy amended, pointing to Peter and Caspian who had just started their duel. "But I often use a sword with my fighting style."

"Show me." Edmund said, accepting a sword from one of the squires and handing it to Tommy before unsheathing his own sword. This was the sight the girls came upon awhile later after they too had finished with their fittings. Peter and Caspian were still going at it, neither accepting defeat though there would be a winner eventually, while it didn't look like Tommy and Edmund's battle would have one at all. Both duel's had drawn crowds, Peter and Caspian's for the prowess and skill while Edmund and Tommy's was simply due to its irregularity. It was immediately clear that Edmund was the better swordsman by far, but Tommy was the better fighter overall, his martial arts and time as a Power Ranger giving him an edge no one in this world had ever seen; thought Edmund was learning quickly and using his years as a soldier himself to predict Tommy's next moves. Eventually both duels came to an end. Caspian tripped over a rock allowing Peter to get the upper hand and taking the High King's smug look to mean that he'd herded him to the rock hoping for just such an outcome, a tactic he should have seen, while Edmund and Tommy just called it quits.

"Impressive." Kim said to her boyfriend when he and the three Kings joined them.

"Edmund's much better then I am." He told her. "It's only thanks to Saba's incessant nagging that I practice that I know even that much."

"You certainly kept me on my toes though." Ed returned. "I don't think I've ever seen anyone fight like that."

"I don't think anyone here has ever seen anyone fight like that." Peter amended, he and Caspian having caught the end of their battle.

"It's martial arts." Tommy told them. "A fighting style I've been practicing since I was a little kid."

"I've heard of that before, it's an Asian fighting style isn't it?" Susan asked.

"Uh yeah, essentially." Tommy said.

"Can you teach us?" Caspian questioned. "Such a fighting style could go a long way."

"I can teach you some of it." Tommy replied. "It takes years to be able to do what I did, but I can teach you the basics. And certainly teach your men to dodge better and be more aware of their surroundings." He motioned to where the troops were once again training after the two battles had ended, and sure enough, while they seemed to have power behind their attacks, and had memorized the techniques, it was adjusting when your opponent did something you weren't expecting that they were having trouble with and as such many got hit quite a bit.

"We welcome your help." Caspian answered with a nod of thanks.

"Well, our turn I think." Lucy said when the conversation died down. Susan nodded and took her bow out of her quiver which she'd strapped to her back before coming down to the training grounds.

"Would you like to join us Kimberly?" She asked. Seeing the bow Kim smiled and nodded.

"Go easy on them Kim." Tommy said with amusement, knowing that after years of training with and using her Power Bow she was quite proficient at archery.

" 'Go easy on them?' " Ed raised his eyebrow in scepticism. "No one's ever beaten Susan at archery."

"She is the finest archer to ever exist." Caspian agreed not taking his eyes off the High Queen as she found a suitable bow for Kim, and missing Peter's overprotective elder brother glare; it wasn't a secret how Caspian and Susan felt about each other except to each other.

"This should do nicely." Susan said, handing Kim a properly sized bow.

"Have you ever shot a bow before?" Lucy asked from her spot where she was throwing knives. Over the course of their reign, both Lucy and Susan had become proficient enough with many weapons to hold their own, though Susan naturally preferred her bow and Lucy had taken a liking to knife throwing from her very first training session when they first came to Narnia. Peter and Edmund had protested to their sisters learning to fight, in both Narnia and 1940s Earth it was the occupation of men to do battle, but neither Queen would leave the battles to them and cower inside the castle. Susan led the archers in battle every time as she had during the Battle of Aslan's How, that being her area of expertise, while Lucy admittedly tended not to fight, but was right there leading the healers and tending to the wounded, though she would fight when necessary. Their actions upon the battlefield had earned them places among the two highest orders within Narnia. While Peter was a Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Lion, and Edmund a Knight of the Noble order of the Table, Susan joined her elder brother as an Archer of the Most Noble Order of the Lion and Lucy a Healer of the Noble Order of the Table. This merely added to the two Queens list of titles, but they were the two they were the most proud of for those titles had to be earned, unlike their other titles given to them by simply being Queens of Narnia.

"Many times." Kim admitted. "My Power Bow is my main weapon as the Pink Ranger."

"Well then let's see what you've got." Susan said and Kim smiled before notching an arrow and releasing it. The normal arrow zooming towards the target was hardly as impressive as the arrows of her Power Bow that turned into energy, but it was still satisfying when it hit the bulls eye dead on.

"Nice shot." Susan praised.

"A lucky one." She admitted. "I may use a bow quite often but it's a fair bit different, and doesn't really matter what part of the target we hit. Training with a regular bow I can always hit the target, but where on the target is up for debate."

"But that works for you and what is required for your enemies. There is nothing wrong with that." Lucy said as she threw a knife, hitting the target slightly off centre.

"And even here hitting the target is all that really matters." Susan added. "It is men you shoot upon in battle, and yes, hitting the red circle in the middle is akin to hitting them in the heart and killing them instantly, but you can still fell an enemy by hitting them anywhere. It may not kill them, but it will injure them and make them far less effective in battle."

"I've never shot on another human being before." Kim muttered as the realization of what would be expected of them in a battle of this world hit home. "Tommy…" She cried through their bond as she could feel panic set in. Tommy was by her side in an instant, pulling her into his arms, with the three Kings not far behind him, having follow when he ran off with no explanation.

"It's alright Kim, it's gonna be ok." He murmured, though truthfully he wasn't faring much better.

"What's wrong?" Edmund asked.

"We just realized we're probably gonna end up killing another living being, or at least injuring one." Tommy replied.

"That's generally what happens during a war." Peter said, uncertain what the problem was; these two fought in battles all the time after all.

"Not to us." Kim said. "We're guardians of the Earth, sworn to protect all living beings, not hurt them."

"But you fight all the time…" Edmund still wasn't getting the problem.

"Yes, but our enemies aren't living beings, they're not really alive. They're puppets that are created, not born." And now they understood. The first time any of them had taken a life it had been a shock to their systems, especially to the four Pevensies who were mere children and had been thrown into a battle with very little warning. They hadn't truly dwelled on the fact that they would be taking a life, though they had realized on some level that they probably would be, and evidently the realization was just as bad if not worse then the aftershocks; not only would they have to contend with it at the time, but they now had an unknown amount of time to dwell on it beforehand.

"It never gets easier, I won't lie to you." Peter told them. "It's always hard taking a life, even if you only take them because you have to, because it's either kill or be killed, knowing hundreds, if not thousands, will be massacred after you. There's not really much more I can say on the matter. Only that you won't have to face it alone." Tommy and Kim nodded and steeled themselves against those thoughts; it would do them no good, they'd deal with them if, and when, the time came. They all went back to training, Susan helping Kim improve her aim while Tommy taught a crash course in dodging attacks, both Rangers revelling in actually having time to train, though they should have known that even in another world, they weren't that lucky. A scream rang across the field, drawing everyone's attention, before more cries joined them, though some were battle cries. With a sinking feeling, the two Ranger dashed towards the disturbance, the five royals not far behind them, and came to a halt when the cause of the disturbance became known.

"Fucking hell!" Tommy growled, seeing the hoard of Tengas, while Kim merely sighed in defeat with a muttered "it never fails."

"These things again." Peter said, raising Rhindon and preparing for battle.

"They're called Tengas and they fight like I did earlier," Tommy said. "Only they also have extra strength and power."

"Let us handle them this time, we'll teach you how afterwards." Kim added and Peter nodded, he and Caspian calling the troops off, though they all formed a large circle around the Tengas, cutting off an escape.

"Ninja Ranger Power!" Tommy and Kim cried together once their path was clear. The two Ninjetti Warriors launched on the attack, handling the Tengas with ease. Like before, the bird brains did not stick around long enough to be destroyed, and bypassed the wall of soldiers by taking flight right over their heads. Whipping their Ninjetti robes off and returning to their Narnian clothing Tommy and Kim joined the Kings and Queens with worried expressions.

"This is the second attack that has no apparent purpose." Said Kim. "Usually it's to cause destruction and to clear a path for the bigger monster, but these guys just appeared, fought us for a bit, mainly defending themselves, and took off."

"Which means we just don't know what their purpose is yet…and we can pretty much guarantee we won't like it when we do." Tommy added.

"They were scouts." Edmund said, having seen this kind of tactic before, and used it himself many times. "They were confirming where we were, and how big our army is."

"Goldar's not that smart." Kim assured them.

"Which means he probably has outside help from someone who is." Said Lucy.

"You think he's joined forces with those dark creatures Aslan spoke of?" Tommy asked.

"It looks that way." Peter agreed. "And if we're right, then we're in trouble."
