The day of doubt and consolation

"What do you want me to do, Arthur?"

the prince looked at Merlin through heavy eyes and a curved frown," I want you to leave."

Merlin stayed where he was though. Stood his ground unlike any normal servant would. He tenderly reached a hand out but Arthur slapped it away.

"Arthur –"

"GET. OUT."

The prince shoved Merlin to the door and opened it a little ways before shoving Merlin through. Merlin flinched a little as his hand hit the wall.

"Please just leave me, Merlin. I have no wish to speak to anyone." The prince eyes grew soft.

The servant shook his head but found no use for it. He knew how Arthur was felling: like the world crashed down upon you.

"Just know, Arthur , it wasn't your fault. Morgana was evil from the start and played many people. There is nothing-nothing- you could have done, Arthur. But you did do something you saved all those people-families, women, children. Be thankful and glad for that, sire. And if it's in consolation I'm proud of you."

He licked his lips and watched Arthur watch him. He gave a nod and closed the door. He knew Arthur would come find him when he's ready.
