Shawn kissed Juliet as she rushed Austin out the door to get to school. Carlton and Marlowe waddled out just before them so he could get to work. Shawn turned after waving Juliet down the driveway. He picked up the phone and dialed the number Lassie gave to him. An airy voiced woman answered on the second ring.

"Dana's Doughnuts, this is Karen, how can I help you today."

Shawn pulled the phone away from his ear and looked at it, frustrated.

He put it back up to his ear. "Uhm, my name is Shawn; I need to be in the witness protection because I watched a man kill someone."

The woman on the other end was silent for a moment. "Just a moment, sir, and I'll connect you."

Shawn, surprised, walked to the fridge to get some pineapple juice while he waited. He had only just set his glass on the counter when there was a voice on the line.

"This is Agent Phillip Corson."

Shawn poured his glass full of juice. Glancing at the cruiser parked across the street and silently thanking the chief for allowing Juliet to stay at school with Austin, Shawn sighed, "My name is Shawn Spencer and I need to be in witness protection."

Shawn spent two hours on the phone with Agent Corson explaining what happened to him. Finally, the agent told Shawn that they were going to place him and his family into the protection program. Shawn cleared his throat.

"I need to make sure that my wife and son are safe, agent."

"I understand, Mr. Spencer, you told me repeatedly."

Shawn shook his head. "I mean, I need to keep them away from any danger."

Shawn finally hung up after spending an additional hour on the phone with Agent Corson. He picked up his long since empty pineapple juice glass and walked it to the sink. A single tear rolled down his cheek, he roughly wiped it away and turned back to the phone. Henry answered on the fourth ring when Shawn was about to hang up.

"Shawn, I was hoping you'd call; everything alright? Karen told me something happened last night."

Shawn shook his head, knowing his dad would never fully retire from being a cop. "Yeah, listen, I hate to ask this, but I need a favor."

Henry paused, knowing that it must be important for his son to ask a favor of him. "What kind of trouble are you in?"

"The usual, but it's nothing for me." He paused. "Do you remember that old witness protection agent friend of yours?"

Henry chuckled. "Yeah, Terry, he was-"

"Dad, I don't have time to reminisce with you, can you get him in on this favor?"

"Shawn, he's retired, whatever kind of trouble you're in, he won't help."

Shawn thought about the little girl he'd once played with on a vacation with his parents and their friends, Terry and Michelle. Coral Gannonbrook was their little girl's name; she had light brown hair that looked blonde when the sun shone on it and eyes the color of jade. Shawn had a crush on her for a few years until a case got too personal for Terry and he lost his only daughter. Some shmuck caught a serial killer in the act without his mask and while Terry was protecting him, the killer kidnapped his seven year old daughter and tried to exchange her for the man who saw his face. It was a lose/lose situation and somehow Terry caught both ends. The killer shot the witness and accidentally dropped Coral, all tied up, into the lake. By the time they got her out, it was too late.

"Tell him a kid's life is at stake. I need his help, Dad."

Henry agreed to call him and hung up. Shawn sat at the table until his dad called back.

"He said he'll help, he's on his way over right now so we can talk about it."

"I'll be there soon." Shawn hung up and went to put some pants on.

By the time he arrived at his dad's house, Terry Gannonbrook was already there. They sat in Henry's kitchen as Shawn explained the situation to Terry, who tilted his chair back and asked, "So why do you need my help?"

Shawn looked down at his hands. "I need to disappear, my family too."

"Son, I'm not in the protection business anymore."

Henry glared at his son, confused. "Shawn, what is this about?"

Shawn relayed the story of what happened that night to his father and Terry, they both looked shocked. Henry was the first to speak.

"Where's Austin?"

"He's fine, dad. He's at school with Jules."

Henry sat back in his seat, relief spilling over his face. Terry didn't look phased.

"Son, I don't understand why you called me here."

Shawn looked at the man he hoped he could trust and asked him the question he'd been dreading.
