A/N:
Still more editing guys, but after this chapter we'll be done and the rest should come quickly enough. This chapter is just taking a lot of creative juice…
Despite finally being able to sleep in for as long as she wanted, Shinichi still got up early.
Well, if you call 10 o' clock early.
She slowly ambled down the stairs (only tripping twice), rubbing the sleep out of her eyes; blissfully unaware of the dove nestled in her hair.
At least until KID pointed it out.
"Do you know you have a dove on your head?" He was standing in front of the stove, spatula in hand as eggs and bacon sizzled. He was already dressed and ready to go (where to, she didn't know), and it took a few moments for Shinichi's muddled brain to realize she should probably respond.
"I have a what on my what?" She asked, blinking sleepily.
"A dove on your head." KID repeated, moving to flip the eggs.
Shinichi slowly lifted her hand, blinking as it brushed against soft silken feathers. "…no. I didn't know."
"Well now you know." The thief smiled. It wasn't the smirk that Shinichi had only seen, but it still held that spark of mischief, while still being warm. Shinichi stared at him for a little while longer before shaking her head (causing the dove to ruffle its wings) and taking a seat at the kitchen table.
"Do you have coffee?" She asked quietly. She was not a morning person. At all.
KID looked back at her, a childish look of disgust on his face. "You like that stuff?" Shinichi shrugged, and then it was KID's turn to shake his head. "It's in the pot on the counter."
Shinichi glanced over, and sure enough there was a fresh pot of coffee just waiting. The bitter drink had never smelled so good before, and as she tipped a now full mug back, it had never tasted so good.
"So not only do you drink that stuff, you drink it black?" KID looked at her, shock written all over his features. "Seriously, what's wrong with you?"
"I don't like sweet things." She said, pouring another cup.
"I take it back." KID turned back to the stove. "We're not twins."
Shinichi rolled her eyes and sat back down.
Now that she had some caffeine slowly working its way through her system she could function a little better. Not a whole lot, but a little.
"Bon appite, my dear lady." The thief set a steaming plate full of eggs and bacon in front of her. There wasn't a lot on the plate, but KID had put just enough on so she would eat a little more than what her stomach allowed without her being sick.
She actually thought it was really nice of him.
She ate slowly while KID inhaled everything, and yet they still managed to finish at the same time.
The thief was now doing the dishes (after a very fierce argument between the two) while Shinichi was sitting at the kitchen table, nursing her 3dh cup of coffee. It was the only other drink the organization had given her besides water, and she had grown to love it, finally getting to the point where she had to have at least a cup a day.
"So, how about instead of sitting there and moping, you go get dressed?" Shinichi was pulled out of her thoughts by KID's voice. His back was still turned to her, and his hand was still moving in a circular motion as he washed the plate.
Choosing to ignore the moping comment, the teen asked "Get dressed for what?"
This time KID looked at her. "Shopping. You're going to need more cloths than my hand-me-downs…and I need some more explosives." He added.
Shinichi couldn't help it. She quickly got defensive and snapped, "I'm fine with what I have. You don't need to waste your money on me."
"I'm not wasting money." KID set the plate down, fully turning so he was facing her. "I have more than I need. It's not going to hurt me to buy things that you need."
"You don't-"
"I'm not taking no for an answer Tantie-kun." The thief crossed his arms. "So you either get ready to go, or I'm forcefully taking you. Your pick."
Shinichi knew he was going to do it, so after a staring contest between the two; she finally threw her hands up and stalked back up the stairs. She went back into KID's room, making sure to slam the door as hard as she could.
She knew that the way she was acting was childish and stupid, but she hated when people had to take care of her.
Pushing that anger aside, she looked into the mirror, sapphire eyes staring back.
Her hair, while messy, had managed to survive the night. She slept in the cloths given to her, and after smoothing down her shirt and hair; she plucked the dove off her head and headed back down stairs.
"See, that wasn't so hard, now was it?" KID was waiting by the door for her, and she simply scoffed as the taller teen handed her a pair of shoes. They were a bit big, but then again, everything she was wearing was a bit big.
"So do you have a name I can call you?" Shinichi asked, standing up straight.
The thief blinked. "…huh?"
"Well I can't very well call you KID, now can I?"
KID just stared at her for a little while longer, hand resting on the door knob, tensed like he was going to open it. Finally he replied. "…call me Kaito."
oOo
It didn't take too long to get to the shopping district, and Shinichi was instantly thrust into the first clothing store she and Kaito saw.
Kaito…it felt so weird to be calling the thief something other than KID (even if she had known him for a day). But Shinichi liked the change…and the name.
"How about this?" Kaito held up a frilly pink dress, and Shinichi roughly smacked his head, scowl on her lips. "I take it that's a no?"
Shinichi's scowl deepened, and she stalked off to the tee shirts, and then roughly started to slide them across the rack as she looked. Kaito let out a light laugh, and then journeyed over to Shinichi, holding out his hands as she shoved the shirts into his chest.
In the end Shinichi (who was still feeling guilty that Kaito was buying her cloths) got 5 shirts and 6 pairs of pants. They had also bought her the feminine necessities, and Kaito had convinced her to get a dark blue jacket and bright red bow tie.
Now they were heading back to his house, shopping bags in tow, when they saw something they really didn't want to see.
Men from the Black Organization were swarming the outside of Kaito's house.
The two teens came to a sudden halt, and it was Shinichi who ended up dragging Kaito into the cover of the bushes.
"Give me your sweatshirt." She whispered. Kaito did as she asked. Shinichi quickly put the fluffy thing on (she would have to steal it later), and then threw the hood up after tucking her hair in the sweater and hood. She then took Kaito's hand, and after a quick "follow my lead" they emerged, Shinichi bursting out into happy laughter.
Kaito didn't need to ask what she was doing, so he simply grinned, pulling the slim figure closer to him.
Playing the "Boyfriend-Girlfriend' act did the trick, because as soon as the two came into view of the Organization, they scattered. However, they still kept it up until they went inside the house.
They both pulled away quickly, and while Kaito went to look around the house for cameras and bugs, Shinichi stared out the window. While she had kept her cool, she had been absolutely terrified. She would never admit it of course, but the organization and everything they represented terrified her to no end.
So, she was trying her hardest not to have a complete melt down.
"Hey, Shinichi?" A hand landed on her shoulder, and she slowly turned her head till her sapphire eyes were meeting concerned indigo. "You okay?"
"…yeah." Shinichi said quietly, gently pulling away from Kaito. "I'm fine."
Kaito watched her walk away. He knew she wasn't fine, but he wasn't going to say anything. He understood perfectly why she was acting the way she was.
Because he was acting that way too.
A/N:
This seams like such a bad place to leave off at….oh well. I think it went a little too quickly too…
Anyway, as I said earlier, this is the last chapter in need of updating, so now everything should be coming pretty quickly now.
But tell me what you think of the changes. Do you like it better, or not at all? And thanks for sticking with me on this
