Hello,

I can't say I am officially back as I am starting an internship real soon, and I have a lot of final work to hand in in the next few weeks. I just really can't get this story out of my head and I wanted to try again and make something I can be proud of. I now I lost a lot of ya'll interest but if there is anyone sticking around or any new readers after this, I just want to say thank you!

XOXO,

V

We were closing the doors to our home, with everything packed, when we felt it. The air got thicker, and our chests constricted making it harder to breathe. I feel the hairs on the back of my neck rise and it took all my strength not to change. My father growled besides me and I know shit is about to hit the fan.

In just milliseconds something was thrown, it hit the wall next to me, as I turned to face who had done it I heard a whimper, and I almost got whiplash when I recognized who that voice belonged to.

"Lucas!"

I hear a second growl from my dad, he's half turned, and I do the same. I walk towards the intruders, two men and one wolf, ready to attack but the older man raises his hands halting my movements.

"We hear you're leaving, may we know where to?"

His name is Robert, alpha of the Scarlet Eyed pack, and as the alpha his eyes are forever red (hence the name). They rule all of Nevada but have spent years trying to take California from us. His hair is jet black and he always has it gelled back like I would imagine a mobster would keep it. Next to him is his second in command, Richard, tall, dark and handsome is the easiest way to describe him, even though his features are distorted now since being half turned his yellow eyes shining with apprehension. The wolf's name is Caleb, his fur is reddish brown a trait amongst the Scarlet Eyed pack, red eyes and red fur.

"I don't recall ever needing to explain my actions to another pack." Was my father's reply.

"Just wondering how long I should take to claim this land as my own." Robert says, motioning his arms to emphasize what land he's talking about.

Lucas groans again and in seconds I'm next to him. I turned him around and see the blood that has pooled under him. His heart beat is weak, he's dying.

"What did you do to him?" I growled.

Robert snickered and waved me off, refusing to acknowledge my comment.

"Now Robert, you know the law, no human gets harmed on Argent territory." Robert's face pales in realization so my dad continues. "And this is and will continue to be Argent territory."

The three intruders start backing away until they notice they are surrounded. Part of our pack has arrived, and they are outnumbered 6 to 3.

"You know the rules Robert. Whoever touched this human, stays with us."

Quiet overcame my senses then, a chilling silence that left my whole body numb. Lucas' heart had stopped, as so had his breathing.

"No, no, no! Come on Luke!" I scream in a desperate haze for him to come back, to react, to wake up. The words become a mantra as I shake and slap him to no avail.

I could hear screams and growls around me, but they felt so far away, the only thing I could focus on was that fucking unbearable silence that signified Luke's death.

It was with a repeat of my mantra and a bone crushing punch to his chest that my silence was filled, and his heart began to beat again. It was slow and fading but it was there.

Next thing I know my dad had dragged me into the living room after carrying Luke inside and laying him on the couch.

"Babygirl, you know what you have to do to save his life."

And in any other circumstance I would've hesitated, I would've questioned if he wanted to become a wolf or not, but I just couldn't let him die.

So, I told my father to bite him.

"Who did it?"

"It was Caleb."

"Where is he?"

"He's in the cells."

"I want to do it."

"I don't think you're ready for that. If it doesn't work…it's not something you can take back Babygirl."

"What if I want it to fail?"

Our pack has a unique set of laws that not all packs abide by unless they find themselves in our territory. As you can see some, like the Scarlet's, don't agree with them but most respect them cause the respect us. We are the oldest thriving pack. Anyway, one of those laws states that no human can be harmed in our territory, the consequence being that the culprit must stay with us and suffer the bite. Only two things can come from that, they either successfully become an Argent, or they die. Neither are quick or painless. I have never personally seen this done but I know what the whole process entails, I'm being groomed to become alpha after all.

"I need to do this Dad, he almost killed Luke!"

"I won't stop you Rachel, I'm just warning you about the consequences."

"I understand Dad, but I have to do this…" I glanced at Luke's unconscious form, "…for him."

"Ok. Let's go."

Caleb didn't put up a fight when I went to bite him and as a result his eyes changed from scarlet red to silver, his fur drained of color and became white. He is an Argent now. He couldn't betray us now even if he tried, he knows that, and I believe that's an even bigger punishment.

There was a change in the air as soon as Lucas turned to his wolf form immediately after being bitten. The air was thick with electricity making it hard to breath and we were all forced to turn into wolves ourselves. This has never happened before, and I could feel the apprehension around the room.

I look to my father for answers and he looks shaken up.

"It's the prophecy!" I hear one of them say.

"What is he talking about, daddy?"

"I never really believed it, but I can't deny the evidence." Someone else spoke.

"Daddy, what is it?"

I can see my father is struggling with something. He's trying to shift back but he can't.

"Babygirl," I turn to my dad, who seems calm albeit solemn. "Do you remember the bedtime story your grandfather used to tell you?"

I nod, though I hardly remember the details.

"Some wolves believe it's a prophecy, about a powerful alpha arising, it will have a pack within a pack that will be made up of different creatures. As it goes, they will rise in time for the Awakening. This pack is supposed to be the salvation to all living beings."

"Is Luke that alpha?" I say in amazement as I look at him, I mean really look at him. His fur is white like all of us except he has two black stripes encircling both his front legs, where his upper arms would be, and his eyes are this beautiful turquoise green color.

"No baby, you are?" As he is saying this, all the wolves around us and bowing to me.

Never have I ever been this confused and out of it in a situation, I tend to be prepared when I go into a situation. I look at all of them and as much as my wolf is soaking up the reverence coming from them, I just want them to stop and tell me what the fuck is going on.

"You look different Rae." It's the first time I hear Luke's voice in my head which startles me. It's the first time he has spoken since his transformation and I think he has finally healed.

Wait.

What did he say?

"What do you mean I look different?"

"Your front legs have a black strip now."

I walk to the hallway mirror everyone just moving out of the way like the parting of the sea and all my petulant teenage self wants to do is roll my eyes. Sure enough, there black stripes surrounding my legs, one on each.

If this is all real, if this prophecy and legacy is real and its as bad as I am remembering the stories my grandpa used to tell. Then, what the fuck am I doing becoming and alpha! I am just a stupid teenager! I just mated with someone that is not my boyfriend! I literally must drop everything to be with her or else I'll fucking die. What the fuck am I going to do?

"I don't want this! I can't be an alpha yet! Daddy you are the alpha, I can't do this!"

"Sweetheart, I am still the alpha of the Argent pack but now you are the Alpha to us all."
