Chapter 3: A baby and a fight
"Good to see that you're doing fine." The doctor said smiling at her from across the room. She assumed he was after all he was wearing a white overcoat and a stethoscope hanging on his neck.
His hair is blonde with slight curls that look good on him. His eyes were blue like the sky and when he smiled, she could feel the sun's rays radiating directly from him.
"Though, you look like you woke up from a nightmare." He said his brows furrowed in concern and started to make his way towards her.
"It happens a lot." She said quite nervous around strangers.
When he reached her, he sat down on a stool next to the bed.
"It sure does." He replied his smile not fading. "Oh and your nose is fine now."
She immediately reached for her nose and she squealed in delight.
"Thanks!" She said happily and couldn't contain her excitement. "How'd you do it?"
"Well, with a little ambrosia and nectar, anything can be fixed." He said like he'd answered the question a million of times yet he still found it funny.
"Nectar?" Anya asked, quite confused. After all nectar for her is something about flowers and butterflies or something. She didn't really know. The other word, she didn't quite hear.
"The food and drink of the gods." He replied rather with too much enthusiasm, which made her question her ability to trust people.
"Okay." She said suddenly wary of her situation. Here she is, in some room and place she didn't know of with some probably quack doctor with stethoscopes. She suddenly started to doubt whether the guy knows how to use it or not.
Then an idea popped in her mind. She couldn't be in mental hospital, could she?
"Um," she paused wondering if it was a good idea to actually ask but she decided that she at least should know where she's actually at. "Where am I?"
"Right! Sorry." He said scratching his head then she noticed the ring on his finger, looked like human bones to be honest and yet they were elegant and have a silver glint. "I was preoccupied I forgot to say welcome to Camp Half-blood."
"Right." Anya said looking for a way out, still staring at the ring.
"I'm Will, by the way." He said, offering his right hand. If it was the other she won't probably shake it.
"Anya." She said and shook his hand. "Um, are you a good guy?"
It was actually a stupid question but along the way she got tired guessing. She might as well ask first. Maybe they're nice enough to tell her she was going to be their dinner.
Will chuckled at that.
"I don't know Anya. Maybe I'm not." He said, his good natured smile not leaving his face. Then she heard the door open and goat man entered. He was wearing an orange shirt with the words CAMP HALFBLOOD on it and she noticed two horns peaking out of his hair.
"Goat man!" She called kind of excited that she sees him.
"Goat man?" Will asked, looking at his direction. "'Sup Grover. Feeling alright?"
"Man, shadow travels really creeps me out. I still have shivers you know." He said making his way towards them. "How'd you get use to that Will?"
"Well we usually just hitch a ride with Jules Albert." He answered offering the other stool to Grover, the goat man.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked, and she could tell he was looking at her nose.
"I'm fine." She answered quite happy seeing a familiar face. Well, not exactly that familiar but who cares.
"Welcome to Camp Half-blood! I'm Grover by the way. I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier." He said with a sympathetic smile. Anya forgave him.
"It's okay. I'm Anya." She smiled at him then she heard a baby cry.
"Oh! Sorry about that." Will said standing from his stool. "Bianca tends to cry a lot when Nico is not holding her. I'll be going now." He said and made his way towards the other side of the room where a crib lies. He took the baby and made his way outside with a wave of his free hand.
"He has a baby?" She asked. She kind of wanted to touch the baby but she didn't have the chance.
"Yeah, that was something." He said trying not to laugh. "It was this boys' night out in the woods that got Will so drunk that he started doing all this random things. Nico wasn't there to stop him. We actually got a video of him offering things to the gods and he literally begged the queen mother, Hera for a baby with Nico."
Grover was laughing at this point in which Anya was trying hard to keep up.
"Nico? The other guy that smells like death?" She asked totally freaked out. They were the total opposites and both of them were guys.
"Yeah yeah." He said wiping a tear from his eye. "So he did this cartwheel several times while chanting poetry and singing songs. Then out of nowhere Juniper screamed Hydra!"
"Juniper? That sounds like a girl." She said remembering it was a boys' night out. "And a hydra?"
"Well she didn't want me to get drunk. Anyway, there were only eleven of us, some satyrs, Apollo and Hermes kids and one from the Ares. At that moment I wished Percy was there."
"Percy?" Again she's confused.
"My best friend. He has stuff happening. So we all went to fight the hydra except for Will who was busy crying. We have no idea why. It doesn't seem like he noticed the hydra." He said exasperated like Anya can actually understand him but she's afraid to admit that she can't.
"And then what happened?" she asked confused why she'd even ask.
"Well apparently, Will was actually praying or something that when the Hydra's tail hit him, he got so mad and went crazy." He said hands moving fast as he tried his best to describe what happened. "It happened so fast. He somehow lined the hydra's heads and with one shot and a prayer to Apollo, he shot it dead. The next thing we knew he was offering his kill to Hera and the monster was already disintegrating."
"Wow." She said mostly to herself that she is actually quite convinced but still confused.
"I know right. We actually thought that was the end of it. But all of a sudden there was a bundle of cloth appearing from the disintegrated hydra. We were cautious at first but then it started crying." He looked at her like 'can you believe that?'
"The baby." She answered amazed.
"Right. Will was the one who went first. He was still drank so when he reached the baby, he vomited. Gods it was so awful."
"Is the baby okay?" she asked wondering what it was like to be vomited. It would definitely be disgusting.
"Well, only her legs were hit so she just laughed. She was so happy that Will tried to vomit again. We stopped him this time. Just look at what alcohol can do." He said shaking his head in disapproval.
"What happened next?" She asked somewhat curious. "Did another monster appear?"
"Well no. Will just took the baby and went straight to Nico's. Well we helped him get to Nico's. Plus we weren't sure it was safe to leave the baby to him." He said with a shrugged but his eyes started to brighten again. "You should have seen Nico's face. He was about to drag Will's soul down in the underworld to the fields of punishment."
"Why would he do that?" She asked even if she barely understood what it meant.
"Well he is a son of Hades. He can probably do it if he wants to."
She was about to ask who Hades was because she's pretty sure she's heard it before and Grover seems to want to continue his story.
"Well before Nico can do some damage, Austin immediately moved in front of Will saying that the baby was a gift from Hera. But Nico took it differently sending skeletons crawling out of the pavement."
"Skeletons?" she asked thinking 'death man literally lived up to his name'.
"Yup, at least ten of then. When one immediately reached Will, the baby suddenly laughed!" He said hands in the air. "Will was probably thinking the skeletons were friendly so he showed the baby to them saying that the baby's name is Bianca but if Nico insists it can be Nica or Sunshine and the list goes on."
"What did Nico say?" She asked amused.
"Nico immediately went to look at the baby. He was still angry. It only got worse when he saw and smelled the puke. He immediately took the baby away from Will calling him a disgusting drunk." Grover laughed at that. "He took one look and his face immediately changed into a happy one though it only lasted for a second. He asked again where the baby came from. Sherman was the one who answered this time. He explained as carefully as he could, making sure Nico heard that there was no cheating that happened like Nico was suggesting."
"What a night." Anya commented. She has to admit everything sounded so real. "You're not lying are you?"
"What? Of course not!"He said with a smile not clearly offended by the question. "Maybe at the part about the ten skeletons but hey the rest were true."
From a distance she can hear a baby squeal in delight. She looked at the direction and smiled that she can see them through the window. Nico was the one carrying the baby now while Will was busy taking pictures, which explains Nico's annoyed face.
"So, it's really their baby?" She asked smiling as she saw the baby's hand trying its best to grab Nico's mouth.
"Yup. Will took some sample for a DNA test just to convince Nico that it is his child too. And Bianca actually is. Nico couldn't stop smiling that day. It was so weird. The flowers were blooming and it was winter. We really couldn't explain that one."
"Oh." She said, not like she can say anything.
"Well, sorry for babbling. Can you get up? I'll give you a tour around." Grover asked and she couldn't help but get excited. She immediately rose to her feet and told him to lead the way.
On her way out she saw the strawberry field looking so beautiful. Well it wasn't just the strawberry field. Everything was. Grover showed her around starting from the volleyball court.
There were four people playing, two in each side. It might look like a normal game but there was something about it, only to be proven right when she saw the ball landed hard on the ground. She is pretty sure balls bounce, not make a crater.
"Is that okay?" She asked Grover. He just shrugged.
"Some crazy campers, right? Some Ares and Nike kids just couldn't stay put or play normal games without a twist."
"Oh." Again she doesn't know what to say. She thought about Ares and Nike.
'Was it like a group or something? Like how Harry Potter is in Gryffindor and all?' She wanted to ask out loud but Grover was immediately called.
"It was out right?" A girl asked emphasizing and threatening at the same time. She has curly read hair tied in a bun and a bandana with a striking bright red colour.
Anya flinched at that. She figured that every place in the world, there might at least one bully sneering around.
"No it wasn't!" yelled the other girl with purple pixie hair from the other team and made her way to the opponent. "It was in!" She said poking the enemy at the chest.
"Let's not fight." Grover said trying his best to separate the two girls. "Um, referee?"
"Point goes to Athena." He said not even looking up from his game and Grover grunted how annoying and lazy Hermes's kids can be. He immediately took the game away from him.
"This is not allowed." He said sternly but the kid just took another from his back pocket and continued to play. "Gods of Olympus!" he yelled exasperated.
At the side, Anya can already hear the girls yelling, calling each other mean words that if the nuns of her foster home were here, they'll definitely scrub their mouths with detergent.
"Oh! You did it now, you loser! Why don't we continue this at the arena? It will be easier to tell who the winner is." The girl with the bandana said standing eye to eye with her enemy.
"Yeah it will. Victory belongs to children of Nike anyway, you sad excuse of a warrior!" Pixie haired girl gritted her teeth at that.
They were pushing each other this time, creating a crowd that only made the situation worse. They were all cheering 'FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!'. Some were even yelling for bets and some making weird noises.
Anya decided maybe it's a good idea to call an adult, not like Grover isn't one but it seems crowd control for bloodlust teenagers isn't his fort. But before she can ask someone where an adult is, someone already appeared.
