Flander Scarlet Death is a very mature person. Whilst returning a soul to Lord Death, Flander takes interest in her older brother and decides to live with him in Death City for a while under the unsaid contract that she would not accept missions during her so-called "vacation."
This concludes to why Flander was writhing on the floor with boredom three days after her arrival at Gallows Mansion.
Kid walked into the dining room and paused, looking down in surprise. Flander was lying on her back on the floor; her arms were curved next to her head. She was staring blankly at the ceiling in obvious unsettlement.
"Is something wrong?" Kid asked warily.
"Kid, I'm so bored," she sighed. Kid smirked; she looked so childish sprawled out on the floor. He picked her up like a child and smiled warmly at her. Flander blushed slightly, but continued to pout babyishly.
"What happened to getting a job?" he asked. Flander huffed.
"The café is closed for renovation," she whined.
"I have an idea," Kid put her on her feet. "Why don't you come with me to Maka's apartment? We're having a party and she really wanted you to come."
"Really?" her eyes lit up.
Flander's First Friends; Is Kid Getting Closer or Farther Away?
"A… party?" Flander cocked her head to the side as they waited outside Maka's apartment to be let in.
"Haven't you ever been to a party before?" Kid was past doting with her; he was downright concerned.
"I've heard of them, but I've never actually been to one," Flander replied, being cute without intention. The door in front of them opened before Kid could complain.
"There you are," Maka greeted. "At first I thought you weren't coming; come on in."
"Sorry for being a trouble," Flander apologized, bowing her head slightly. Kid facepalmed behind her.
"It's no trouble at all!" Maka smiled at her.
The four of them entered the small apartment; Crona, Tsubaki, and Blackstar were already there, sitting on the couch and playing some kind of game with Maka and Soul.
"Hey," Soul greeted.
"What's up, guys?" Tsubaki asked.
"Bout time you got here," Blackstar scoffed. "Too busy checking the symmetry of your house?"
"Yeah, so?" Flander and Kid replied in unison. They glanced at each other for a moment before continuing.
"So how do you like the city, Flander?" Tsubaki asked.
"It's… fantastic," Flander smirked. Kid was surprised to hear such a positive review, considering how bored she usually was.
"It's not much," Blackstar muttered. "But I guess knowing me has made it that much better for you."
"… Not really," Flander shrugged, and the others laughed. "I mean, you're super tough and you definitely have a surpass god/top of the food chain complex, but you ought to have a catchier phrase than 'I'm going to surpass god' but more like 'good will never give in to evil,' don't you think*?"
The others were kind of silent for a moment. She sweat-dropped.
"Ah… I guess not."
"No, I get it," Tsubaki smiled at her. "Sorry, I know Blackstar's a real handful and such, but he's not that bad once you get to know him."
"I got an idea," Soul said. "Flander, truth or dare?"
"No," Kid put a protective hand in front of his sister.
"Oh, come on, Nii-nii."
Awkward pause. Kid ducked his head to hide the deep red blush permeating his face.
"Dude," Soul said.
"That's so cute!" Liz giggled. Patti was rolling on the floor with laughter.
"Nii-nii?" Maka asked, covering her mouth to hide her snickers. Flander put her hands over her mouth, blushing slightly.
"Oh, I-I'm sorry, Kid," she apologized. "I didn't mean to say that in front of your friends."
Kid took a deep breath and raised his head. "It's no problem. Whatever. It's just a name."
"If I'm correct," Tsubaki started. "Nii-nii is a nickname derived for the Japanese term 'onii-san,' which means 'brother.'"
"Yep," Flander said, looking down bashfully and playing with the hem of her skirt.
"That's the one," Kid added. He raised his head as he heard something rather out of place in the small scene.
Akai kumo ga nishi kara nagareteiku konna yoru ni ha; Yasashisa nante jama na dake ni mo omoeru kara**
"Oh!" Flander squeaked, pulling a small Deathphone out of her pocket to silence the ringing. "I'm sorry!"
She got to her feet and left the room immediately, not wanting to disturb the others. Kid stared after her for a moment, but relaxed and smiled again. She was so unnecessarily polite. And she got their song as a ringtone.
"Maybe she's talking to our mother," Kid said absentmindedly, leaning back.
"She's polite," Maka complimented. "I can't believe she actually said 'sorry for being a trouble.'"
"She's very polite," Tsubaki agreed. "She talks all softly like that. It's cute."
"Tsubaki, you talk softly like that."
"I guess I do," she laughed at herself.
"I'm sorry about that," Flander apologized, walking into the room. "I could have sworn I turned it off earlier."
"It's cool," Soul reassured her. "Your ringtone is pretty cool too. You into anything in particular?"
"Oh, I um…" Flander began sweating nervously for no apparent reason. "I like a bit of everything, I guess. My favorite artists include Akiakane and Mika FELT, but I also like some other random stuff like Sukiyaki and Unknown Girl by TaBaNa. But Vocaloid is probably the best."
Another awkward pause.
"You have no idea what I just said, do you?" Flander asked.
"Not really," Tsubaki smiled nervously. "We're not really nerds."
"So what do you do for fun?" Soul asked, seeming slightly bored. "I mean, besides the music, you seem kind of bland and you like to work. Like Maka."
"Shut up, Soul," Maka warned, pulling a book out of nowhere.
"I don't have a lot of free time," Flander shrugged. "But you're right; it is boring. I think since I'm settling down some, I might save up and buy a computer or something. Any cool games you recommend?"
"Now you're talking," Soul leaned forward. "What kind of games are you into?"
"Puzzle games are cool," Flander started. "RPGs and horror is totally my thing. But nothing too intense; I might throw the controller at the television. Literal reaction, you know?"
"Then you might want to get a PC," Soul said. "You can play a bunch of cool games and even though it's intense, you probably won't freak out. If you like horror, try Amnesia the dark descent. Hours of gameplay, good storyline, chases, and jump scares."
"I love jump scares!" Flander laughed. "It's different than a chase scare or a suspense scare because you can't really calm down, you know?"
"I hate that," Maka agreed.
"I can't deal with ghosts," Liz admitted.
"I don't really like any scares," Crona admitted.
"But jump scares are easy for me because you jump, scream, whatever, then it's over and we laugh at ourselves," Flander continued.
"There was one time I was playing Oblivion," Soul began telling a story. "And there was some weird glitch where the world froze. Then when it reactivated I was attacked by a wolf and Maka jumped so bad that she almost choked to death on her food!"
"Shut it, Soul!" Maka whined.
Soul Eater
"I'm glad you were able to come, Flander," Maka said as they were leaving. It was pretty late already. "I feel like we got to learn a lot about you. Who knew you were a gamer like Soul?"
"You don't know the half of it," Flander smirked back at her.
*Okami reference. Flan-chan is a bit of an otaku, just for the sake of her being painfully underdeveloped in the first cut.
**It's actually a fandub version of this song that she has. It's just a fandub, but it sounds like Kid singing; go to Death the Kid singing Flandre's theme on YouTube to hear it :D
So, just like I promised, I posted more of the story. Whilst there will be more character development, I'm going to take a break from the epic stuff. This fanfiction isn't really going anywhere.
Happy Your Reincarnation—I mean,
Happy Halloween!
