I'm back. Sorry for the long wait, guys. From now on, I'll try to focus on this story along with Forever And Always and hope that I could complete them before 2014. Enjoy reading this chapter and thanks to the readers who left some reviews for the last chapter :)
April 2004
Few minutes before the Biology class ended, Dean was cleaning his desk just after he finished his experiment. When he was done and got nothing else to do, he sat back on his stool, aimlessly looking around to see his classmates' progresses. Some were just like him; managed to finish on time while some were still either writing on papers and if not, observing the subject of their experiments.
Unfortunately for him, he accidentally caught Kaitlyn's gaze, who was actually staring at him with a dreamy smile. And when she saw that he looked at her, she waved at him shyly.
Dean hastily turned away to somewhere else without reciprocating her gesture. It was already days since Dean asked AJ to tell Kaitlyn to stop liking him but from what he observed, the dark haired girl hadn't done that yet, making him to let out an exasperated sigh whilst raking on his hairs.
He couldn't figure out on why he wouldn't give her a shot. She was slightly built yet she was a beautiful girl and to top it all, she was a really nice girl and a complete sweetheart. Maybe she wasn't just the right one for him. That or maybe it was just because Dean had his eyes set on someone else.
Now, there was nothing else that Dean would like to do but to get out of the class real quick to escape Kaitlyn. He just didn't want to be alone with Kaitlyn right now. Didn't matter if they were going to meet again at the cafeteria. AJ and Seth would be there to make things less awkward by that time.
The bell rang and instantly, Dean packed all his books in his bag but when he was all ready to get out of the class, there stood Kaitlyn at the door, seemingly waiting for him.
Huffing out his uneasiness, he knew he had to do something. With no choice, he pretended to approach one of his remaining classmates left in the class and ended up stopping right in front of a guy's desk. It belonged to none other than the new transferee from Pensacola in Florida, who was just about to leave the class too, until Dean approached him.
"Hey-", Dean looked confused himself as he tried to open up a conversation with the short length black haired boy whom he didn't even know his name.
"Roman!", the boy answered while looking at Dean in confusion.
"Yeah, Roman, the new guy in town", Dean faked a laugh and clapped his hand.
Roman slung his bag strap on one of his shoulders before he smirked, correcting the boy in front of him, "I've been here since January. That's not new"
"Sorry", Dean apologised before introducing himself properly, "I'm Dean"
"Nice to meet you"
Dean tried to steal a glance at Kaitlyn through the corner of his eyes and noticed that she was no longer at the door, probably left and wondering when in the hell did he and this new boy became friends.
He then turned to Roman as he already seemed like he was going to make a new friend, asking, "So, are you going to have lunch with your friends after this?"
"Nah, I'm still a loner for the time being", he answered and Dean could tell there was a hint of disappointment in Roman's voice.
He wondered why would nobody would be friends with him. Hell, he would be one. This guy in front of him seemed like a nice guy and could get along with the rest of the gang. Who knows, maybe this new guy could steal Kaitlyn's attention so she wouldn't bug him ever again.
"Then come eat with me and my friends. I'll introduce you to them"
With a convincing invite and trying to stop being an outsider, Roman followed Dean to the cafeteria to meet his friends. Along the way, Roman actually felt nervous to get introduced to Dean's friends. If they were as okay as Dean, that would be good. If not, then he figured he would be the outcast for the rest of the year.
Too deep in his thought, Roman didn't realise he was already standing in front of the table as Dean put a hand on his shoulder, introducing the older boy before he sat down, "Hey guys! Meet Roman! He's kinda new around here"
Being the ever friendly and giddy girl she was, AJ was the first to stuck out her hand at him, "Hi! I'm AJ!"
Roman shook her hand and proceeded to another person; a long-haired boy with big eyes and quite tall figure.
"Seth!", he said his name coolly and nodded with a smile.
Roman smiled back before he turned to the next person and he suddenly froze, unable to blink when he saw who it was.
"I'm Kaitlyn, though I already know who you are", she waved friendlily before she realised this was the boy that Dean was talking to just a few moments ago, "The practical just now, was kinda hard, right?"
Trying to contain a low infatuated sigh from escaping his lips, Roman stared at the girl still unmoved as he nodded slowly, only a word escaped from his lips, "Yeah"
Seth, AJ and Dean exchanged looks when they witnessed the bizarre act from their new friend for staring at Kaitlyn like he just seen his favourite superstar. As for Dean, he watched him with a smart looking smirk as he nodded in satisfaction. Maybe he was right before. This guy could really help him to make Kaitlyn stop having feelings for him.
"It would be great if you can already sit and eat with us", Seth muttered to Roman after receiving a nudge from AJ, who was sitting next to him.
Realising that it was him that Seth was talking too, Roman released an unnecessary but embarrassed little cough before he laughed awkwardly, "Sorry"
With that, he sat with the rest of the gang and that day marked the start of what would be a long lasting friendship between the fivesome.
Sorry, this chapter had less Dean/AJ moment. I'll make it up to you guys probably in the next chapter. So, perhaps can I get a review for this chapter? Reviews motivates me :D
