XoXoXOXoXoX

"This one or this one?" I question myself franticly as I look in the mirror. Today is the day I meet up with Grimmjow and I'm currently stressing about what to wear. I know it should be easy to pick out a shirt, a nice pair of jeans, and some sneakers but shit today was different somehow. I want to impress Grimmjow, show him that I can look nice if I wanted to, but I don't want to wear an outfit that says 'Hi I'm Ichigo and I haven't a date in forever.'

God, what am I thinking!? We're just going out for ice cream!

I sigh heavily and place the shirts on the bed so I can look at them. One was a red, short sleeved V-neck and the other was a purple checkered button up. I uneasily reach for the red shirt, deciding it would be better than looking like Barney that had sex with a chest board. I was supposed to be leaving at 2 to meet with Grimmjow in the park and it was already 1:47.

"1:47!? Oh shit, I'm gonna be late!" I scream as I put on my pants while looking for my left shoe that decided to go missing when I needed it the most. I finish putting on my pants and my shirt. I'm still looking for my shoe but quickly put on my socks. Once that's done, I look under my bed and found shoe number 2, I quickly slip it on. I hastily put on some deodorant and some body spray before running out and the door and grabbing my phone off the charger. Locking my door, I talk to myself to calm myself down.

"It's alright, I have more than enough time to get to the park. If I run the entire way I can make it. But then I'll be sweaty. God, decisions, decisions. Just give me a sign!" I yell as I skip down the stairs of my apartment building. Just then my phone rings. I answer it, not bothering to check who it is.

"Uh h-hello?"

"Ichigo?"

"Grimmjow!? U-Uh hey!"

"Heh hey. I was calling to see where you were…" God he sounds so hot over the phone- wait.

"Are you already there!?"

"Nah, but I'll be there in about 5 minutes. Where are you? Did you leave yet?"

"Uuh yeah! I just left my apartment. I'll be there soon too. I live about 5 minutes away." Ichigo, you little liar. You live 10 minutes away from the park, now you'll have to run the whole way there if you want to make it on time.

Damn it I'm such an idiot!

"Oh well alright. See you soon then." He says.

"Yeah." I say before I hang up the phone.

"Shiiiiiiiiiit!" I yell as I run pass people to get to my destination. I just had to lie and say I live nearby. Never mind that now, what's done is done. I try to ease my pace so I wouldn't be sweaty by the time I got to where Grimmjow was located but it's not looking too good at the moment. When I round the corner to the park, I can see Grimmjow sitting on the bench looking down at his phone. He looks worried. I wonder if he thinks I'm not coming.

"Grimmjow! Over here!" I found myself yelling. I slow down as I reach the bench. I lean on my knees to catch my breath and look up to see him smiling at me. I blush when I realize he's been staring too long.

"I-I know I look like crap. I ran all the way here. S-Sorry…" I mumble as I fiddle with the edge of my shirt. He then let's out a loud laugh.

"You don't gotta be sorry. I get it, you were happy to see me." He says smugly. I cross my arms over my chest.

"Of course not! I just like to be on time. And you can't talk, I can tell you styled your hair. So who really wanted to see who, is the question." I grin madly at him when I see him turn a light shade of pink and play with his hair. The look doesn't stay long as he finds something to point out about me.

"Whatever, you're such a girl. How long did it take you to find something to wear, princess?"

"Not long for your information."

"Not long enough, your socks don't even match. Hahaha!"

"Huh!?" I say as glance down at my ankles. I groan to myself as I realize he's right. One bright yellow sock and a green sock.

"I-I-I meant to do that!" I stutter out, trying to defend myself as I blush hopelessly. Grimmjow pats me on the head then brings his hand on my shoulder. He leans close to me so that we're face to face.

"Oh come on. Just admit that you were excited to see me. I'm excited to see you…" Grimmjow tells me as he smirks at me. I put distance between us and look away before mumbling,

"Maybe I got a little excited…"

"See that wasn't so bad. Now, let's go. I was thinking we could get something to eat for lunch, go to the little music festival downtown, and comeback here for the ice cream on our way back. That okay with you?" he asks with uncertainty.

"Yeah that's sounds great! I really wanted to go to that music festival. I've been going for about 3 years now. It's awesome! How you ever been?" I ask as we start walking. I don't know where we're going but I thought it was best not to ask. Grimmjow did put a lot of thought into this date so I'll just follow him.

"Nah, that sounds pretty recent."

"Hmm kinda. They started doing it about 5 years ago."

"Well, 5 years ago I was behind bars and music is pretty limited there. The only thing I got that was close to music was my stupid cellmate and his damn harmonica. And I shoved that thing were the sun don't shine." He says as he scratches behind his head sheepishly. I snicker a little.

"Well, if you like music and amateur high school kids playing instruments then you'll love this. Besides, every year you get that one person who gets boo'd off stage. It's fun to watch."

"Sounds like my kind of place." He tells me as he smiles down at me and hooks his arm around mine.

"H-Hey! What are you doing? People will stare at us…"

"Let em'. I've learned that if you let people get to you then you'll only be giving them ammo to shoot you with. It's better to just keep your head up." He says wisely. I stare up at for a moment before laughing. He gives me a questionable look before asking,

"What's so funny?"

"N-Nothing really, it's just that you sound like my dad, well when he's not being a complete idiot." I say as we stop in front of a sandwich restaurant. Grimmjow motions for me to go in first so I do, although I don't like being treated like girl. Once inside, an upbeat waitress comes to seat us.

"Welcome to Gourmet Deli, how many today?" Grimmjow answers before I can.

"Just two."

"Okay then, right this way." She says as we follow her to a booth. She places two menus in front of us and a couple of napkins.

"Can I start you off with something to drink?"

"Uh yeah, Mountain Dew." Grimmjow orders. The waitress jots down his order in her mini notebook.

"Okay and for you sir?"

"I'll have the peach mango lemonade."

"Ooh, good choice. I'll be right back with drinks. My name is Momo by the way. Just yell if you need me." She tells us as she walks away to get our drinks. I look down at the menu to decide I want but look up when Grimmjow starts to speak.

"You can get what you like, I'm paying."

"You don't have to do that. I can pay."

"Yeah, but I asked you on a date so I'm paying. And you can piss and moan all you like but I'm still gonna pay…" He tells me as he continues to search the menu.

"Okay, I'm back. Mountain Dew for you and peach mango lemonade for you. Have you decided what you're gonna get?"

"Yeah, I'll have the fried chicken pita with bacon and extra mayo. And no tomato." I say.

"Okay. And for you?..."

"Let me get the Ham, cheese, lettuce, and bacon delight. Light mayo please." Grimmjow orders. Momo places some forks on the table and smiles at us.

"Your order will be ready in 5 to 10 minutes!" she announces as she skips away to rely the order to the chef.

"Well isn't she happy to be at work…" I mumble. Grimmjow chuckles.

"Or maybe she's just trying to earn her tip. But anyway, earlier you said I sounded like your dad, what'd you mean by that?" I frown a little at that.

"Oh that. It's nothing really. It's just when you talk, sometimes you talk like you know certain things from experience, like when we were walking arm and arm. My dad sometimes does that…"

"But you called him an idiot."

"Well, he's not actually an idiot. He just likes to cover up how he really feels and he comes off as an idiot. He's really smart. He's a doctor. He excels at it too but he fails as a parent."

"What do you mean?"

"Oh i-it's nothing. I don't want to bore you with my family drama. It's really not that big a deal."

"How bout' we make a deal?"

"Deal?"

"Yeah. You tell about your family and I'll tell you about mine. It couldn't possibly be worse than my childhood. Not only that, we had to get to know each other better at some point, might as well start here and now. I'll go first if you want." I think for a moment before nodding. What Grimmjow said made sense so I'll hear him out.

"Okay, but only if you go first." He nods.

"I'll start by saying I have an older sister. She's older than me by 3 and a half years. I love that girl like no other because she's the one who raised me."

"She raised you?" Grimmjow smiles at me.

"Yup! She raised me all by herself. You see, our parents walked out on us when I was 11 and when Nel was 14. Apparently they were so deep in debt they couldn't keep providing for us so they got up in the middle of the night and left. Not a note or anything like that. I guess Nel knew somethin' was up because when I asked her about she said they were going on a couple's vacation.

I was stupid enough to believe it back then. A few weeks had passed and we got kicked out of the house. We didn't have anywhere else to go so we lived on the streets for a while until Nel's school found out. We then got transferred to a foster home. Nel made sure we wouldn't get split up. And for a while, about a year I believe, everything was going good. But my foster dad tried to touch Nel. When I found out, I beat that guy into a bloody pulp. Truth be told, I don't even remember doing it but Nel does. She's the one that pulled me off of the guy.

The asshole even pressed charges on me. And if you asked me I think that's where I went wrong in life. After all that, I joined a gang. I thought it'd be easier for Nel if I could get money somehow and it worked to a certain extent. Sometimes Nel job didn't pay her enough for both of us to eat and on top of her going to school. It was rough. It really was, but I'm thankful for her. In this whole world, there isn't anybody I love more than her. I owe her my life." Grimmjow finishes. He looks up at me and frowns a little.

"Why are you crying?" He asks.

"Sorry, it's just your story is so…sad. It's no wonder you ended up in prison. When you go through something like that, it's hard to get back on your feet. Some people just don't understand you…" I mutter. I hear Grimmjow snort.

"You talk like you do."

"I don't but I know you're not a bad person. I can see it." Grimmjow snaps his head up to look at me and he's wearing a look of shock. I start to mentally question myself if I said something wrong. Grimmjow opens his mouth to say something but the waitress interrupts.

"Sorry for the wait boys. Fried chicken pita for you and the ham, cheese, lettuce, and bacon delight for you. Do you guys need anything else?"

"U-uh no. Thanks." She nods and walks away to take care of the other table across the restaurant. Grimmjow takes a bite of his sandwich and speaks.

"A deals a deal. What's your story?" I swallow the food I had been chewing.

"I have two sisters, twins actually. They're 19 years old. I normally see them every other weekend since they both attend college here. My dad is a doctor and my mother says at home."

"She doesn't work?"

"It's not that she doesn't work, but she can't work. She's got an illness that eats away at her white blood cells. So she gets sick very easily. And you'd think since my dad's a doctor that he'd come home and help her out but no. He believes work is too important and I can't respect a man who believes something like that. He rarely spent time with us as kids and he's barely home to check up on my mom. That's why the youngest of the twins still stays at home, so she can take care of my mother.

You know she's the one who made me want to become a baker. I'd always help her bake stuff when I was little but when she got sick she couldn't much of that stuff anymore. So I did. I'd bake her anything to make her smile, and I still do! My dad on the other hand doesn't approve of me being a baker, despite the fact that I work for his childhood friend."

"He doesn't like the fact that you're a baker?" Grimmjow asks out of curiosity. I smile and shake my head.

"He doesn't really approve of anything I do. He thinks that I could've done so much better in my career choice. He wanted me to become doctor like him. Heh, he also wanted me to find a nice woman to bring home to meet the family someday but I guess you can see the problem with that." Grimmjow chuckles.

"Yeah I do see. What about your mom. She care that you're gay?"

"Not at all. She wants to meet one of my boyfriends at some point. Stick around long enough and I'll let you meet her."

"You know, I think I'd like that. I-I think I want you to meet Nel someday too. But now, now's too soon." Grimmjow tells me as he blushes ever so lightly. I smile and reach across the table to touch his hand.

"Then we'll both take it one step at a time, yeah?"

"Heh, yeah."

"Pinky promise!"

"Oh you've got to be kidding me!?"

"Nope, now do it!" I command as I stick out my pinky for him to take. He sighs but complies with my demand.

"I promise." He grunts.

"Me too…" I say quietly and I watch our pinkies wrapped around one another. I don't know why but I feel as though this pinky promise means a lot more than any other pinky promise I've ever made.

I want him to stay by my side, even if it's only for a little while…
