Chapter Three:
Awakening,
"Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured."―Mark Twain.
-Awakening-
A week earlier,
18th October 2014
Downing my sixth glass of raw Russian vodka; I slammed it down violently onto the glass table: The sounds echoed vociferously off the walls in the apartment.
Looking up at the silver-fox coloured, metal clock upon the hunter-green wall, filled with my paintings and photographs of Rose's and my friends and families.
My eyes darted towards the long, empty hallway looking for a sign of life: Nothing. I sighed tiredly, running my hands through my glossy, dark, chestnut coloured hair.
Leaning back on the plush, satin-grey, leather sofa - after what seemed like a lifetime, I heard the front door slam open and close; the walls of the apartment trembled and shook loudly: She's home.
Instantly I shot up from my seat on the sofa, flying down the hallway to the front door. My long-term girlfriend, Rose Mazur, finally arrived home; four hours later from work tonight.
"Where have you been, Rose!"I yelled angrily.
Rose immediately sighed, walking down our hallway into the living room; I followed furiously behind her.
"I'm going to ask you again for the last time, Rose,"I warned, with anger dripping venomously from my voice."Where were you for the last four hours!"
"Work! I've been at work, Adrian. You know, the place where you earn money from to pay the bills and live?"Rose snapped, while she threw her black bag onto the dark oak flooring beside the sofa, and span around to face me. Rose folded her arms over her chest, huffing in frustration; I mirrored her anger.
"Don't you dare lie to me, Rose!"I yelled."I know, for a fact, that no one is home four hours later from their work."
Rose took a couple of deep breaths in and out; she was fighting the urge to say something that she'll regret.
"I had to stay behind to work on something that my Baba sent me; it wasn't something I could just ignore, Adrian!"Rose snapped."I do have obligations to work I have to meet, you know - I wasn't the only one who had to stay behind. There was like thirty other people too."
I narrowed my eyes at her.
"Well, you shouldn't have a problem telling me what it was for then!"
Rose shot daggers at me.
"My Baba owns hotels!"Rose snapped."Selling, buying, and running hotels! What do you think the meeting was about?"
I laughed humourlessly.
"See, I'm not so sure about that, Little Rose,"I said while stepping closer to her and gestured to her body."You don't exactly dress like someone, who's in that line of the profession!"
Rose quickly rushed past me towards the direction of our bedroom, to change out of her "work outfit".
I followed her, standing in the doorway, leaning against the doorframe and crossing my arms over my chest. I watched as she slowly began undressing out of her clothes: dark jeans, shirt, boots, and jacket.
I knew something was up.
I knew Rose was lying to me regarding her work profession; I tended to find out why.
My father, Nathan Ivashkov, often spoke of similar excuses regarding his job much like Rose.
I loathed the fact that they were both lying to me.
Suddenly, squinting my eyes, I noticed a large bruise forming under her rib cage, on her right-hand side.
"What the hell is that under your ribs?"I inquired, rushing over towards her, with anger laced into my voice.
Rose froze instantly; she looked down at her ribs, quickly pulled on her T-shirt. I walked over to her, grabbing hold of her wrists firmly in my hands, ensuring she looked look directly into my eyes.
"Let go of me, Adrian. "Rose growled.
"No!"I snapped through my gritted teeth."I'll let go after you tell me where that bruise came from - don't you dare lie to me, Rosemarie."
I backed Rose up against the wall, pinning her hands above her hands.
"Stop it, Adrian."
"Stop what?"
I caged her up against the wall like a lion cornering its' prey.
Rose winced, removing her gaze and looking at the floor.
"You're hurting me again, Adrian."
"I'm not. " My voice sounding very dangerously low.
"You're drunk."
"I'm not."
"You are, "Rose pressed."You have that look in your eyes; you only have that look when you're drunk."
"Where were you tonight?"I inquired, ignoring her."Where did you get that bruise?"
"You're hurting me, Adrian!"
I froze instantly, stepping backwards.
Rose sighed in relief.
"I'm sorry, Rose, "I said while running my left-hand cross my face."I didn't mean to do that again."
I heard Rose mutter something under her breath before quickly started moving around the room, stuffing some clothes into a large black bag.
"What are you doing?"I asked urgently.
Rose stopped packing momentarily to answer me.
"I have a flight booked tonight to fly out to Turkey, as my Baba needs my help with a business matter. I planned on surprising you with a ticket to come with me - some bonding time for us, to possibly resolve the drifting apart issue."Rose explained."But, I can't be around you, right now... I need some space to think..."
"How long will you be gone for?"I asked curiously, trying to mask my anger.
Rose finished packing.
"A week or so, "Rose replied.
Rose walked out of our bedroom and our apartment, leaving me alone.
Enraged, I punched the closet wall. However, I instantly regretted it as my hand began throbbing and heavily bleeding.
"Fuck!"I snapped.
I spent the rest of the night getting my hand X-rayed and bandaged.
-Awakening-
25th October 2014,
A week later.
"Adrian!"Natalie exclaimed, her voice dripping with bliss as I attacked her small breasts with my mouth.
"Oh, Adrian!"Natalie moaned.
"You like don't you."I purred as I rocked my body against hers while continuing to give her breasts some attention. My hands gripped her inner thighs tightly.
Thirty minutes earlier, I was sat at a local bar, drowning my sorrows by drinking, when I received a call from the infamous, Natalie Dashkov. Much to my surprise, she turned up with nothing but a pair of heels and a trench coat.
Tempting! I was a man after all. I have needs that needed to be tended to—Natalie more than willing to fulfil those needs. What was I mean to do?
"Adrian!"Natalie moaned.
In my drunkard haze, I managed to shift my position to her entrance swiftly. Lowering myself inside her, I didn't wait for her to adjust to my size. I just immediately began pounding her again and again.
I imagined it was Rose that I was fucking, not Natalie Dashkov. Natalie Dashkov, the daughter of my business partner, who has a thing for me. She's slutty, but she was offering what I wanted. Most importantly: She was offering it to me now.
"Yes! Yes!"Natalie screamed. The corners of my mouth lifted up, a smirk playing across my lips. I knew Natalie was going to hit her release pretty soon.
"You like that, don't you? Miss Dashkov!"I amused.
Suddenly, I heard the bedroom slam open wide and something drop loudly on the floor. I pulled out; pulled up the covers to both our breastbones to shield us.
I growled.
Rose shook her head and pushed me back.
"This is the last straw, Adrian Zacharias Ivashkov. And I mean it! I can't be with you any longer."
Rose quickly scampered out of the room.
"Rose!"I called. I heard the front door slam open and close. However, it was no use: She's gone.
I turned around to face Natalie, enraged.
"Get the hell out of my apartment, Natalie!"I yelled. Natalie's eyes widened; she quickly gathered her things and headed out of the door.
I immediately got dressed, searching for my phone. After fortunately finding it, I started calling all our friends and some of her friends, trying to find where the hell my girlfriend is.
I decided to call them all again. I even tried calling my cousin, Vasilisa Dragomir again: Rose's best friend.
"Hi! It's Lissa, sorry I can't answer the phone right now. I promise to call back as soon as possible."Lissa's voice rang through the phone once I reached her voicemail.
However, to no prevail, I tried calling Rose's phone again to find it switched off.
God damn it!

15th October 2014,
Three weeks later.
I heard a firm knock on my studio apartment, design room door, down in my New York City, Brooklyn.
I decided–more like retreated–to my studio apartment in the Big Apple, after waiting for three weeks for Rose to return home willingly to me; however, she didn't. And I needed some downtime in one of the favourite cities to think of a way to bring her home.
"Come in!"I called.
I took a large swig of my glass of raw vodka, before slamming it back down violently on my oak desk.
The door to my design room opened, revealing my father, Nathan Ivashkov and my uncle, Randall Ivashkov.
"Dad? Uncle Randy? What are you doing here?"I inquired, curiously. Suddenly, another figure appeared in the doorway."Who's that?"
My father and Randall stepped deeper inside the room, alongside the unknown figure. They wore a long, formal grey dress suit, holding a brown briefcase in a firm grip in their hands.
"Son, I've got you the best private investigator to track down Rose's whereabouts and bring her home to you, "Nathan said smugly.
I instantly turned around in my chair; Randall and my father smirked while the new figure stepped forward to shake my hand.
"Nice to meet you, Mr Ivashkov. I go by the nickname, Iron Fist In The Velvet Glove."They said.
I frowned.
"What's your real name?"I inquired.
They smirked.
"You'll find out once we've settled our agreement, "Randall added.
I grinned, leaning back in my chair.
Mark my words: I will find Rose and make her mine again if it's the last thing I do.
Chapter Three Part 2:
Monday, 17th November 2014,
Awakening.
Rose:
It's been a crazy few weeks for me, three to be exact. I had taken three weeks off to bond more with Dimitri, using my break up with Adrian as the excuse to justify my absence to my father.
Dimitri had taken me on multiple small, romantic dates, taking things slow with me - which also means no sex at all. God knows how much I long for his touch. I can still remember that night like it was yesterday, I've never felt so alive; he made me feel like every single fibre in my body was on fire.
We've even gone back to the lake, by the old cabin in the woods that we use to visit as kids. The lake was as mesmerising as I recalled. He brought a beautiful picnic that day, which brought back fond memories of our childhood spent together at the lake.
Our relationship will remain a secret until Thanksgiving Day, excluding Ivan. However, that provided him with the perfect teasing material to use on Dimitri.
We were living in a blissful little bubble, but it was now time to return to reality; a new reality; a better one.
Opening the double, black doors to my office for the first time in three weeks, I noticed my assistant/my partner in field missions, Tasha–Natasha Ozera, looking through my bookcase filled with past files cases, and a file in her hands.
Tasha turned around instantly, hearing the doors to my office close behind me and noticed that I had arrived. Grinning, she flashed her pearly white teeth at me and placed the file in her hands down on the bookcase.
"Long time, no see, Rose, "Tasha amused.
I rolled my eyes and flashed her my man-eater of a smile.
"Well, hello to you too, Tasha,"I retorted and walked over to my desk."What the cases you got for us today?"
Sitting down, Tasha moved to sit down in front of my desk, pushing her cleavage up towards my face, while giving me a grand smile. I noticed that she had unbuttoned a couple of her dark cobalt blouse shirt buttons.
"Well, there are a few choices, "Tasha replied while handing me the files. "But, I think you will prefer to take on the multiple missing peoples' cases."
I nodded, quickly scanned through all the files. Tasha's indeed right; the only case that peaked my interest.
Brief Notes:
Within the last year, there has been a series of disappearances reported in multiple locations, in the Montana district. The victims involved, are said to be six young females aged between sixteen and twenty years old.
Each of the listed females is from a wealthy and influential family. In addition to that, they are the youngest member of their family.
Over the course of the year, there have been several reported sightings of the missing females, but nothing definitive. It's believed they are no longer within the state of Montana.
"You're right, this case is great, "I said.
She grinned.
"Now, I want as much background information as you get about the girls' and their disappearances."I spouted out."Try to see if there are any connections between all the victims too. Oh, and arrange an appointment with the families of the victims'."
Tasha nodded eagerly."Okay, I'll do that right away."
I reopened the case file, reading the information in the file provided, looking for potential leads.
Tasha began walking towards the doorway, but stopped halfway, turning back around to face me; I looked up at her and gave her a questioning look.
"I heard that you and Adrian broke up, "Tasha said gently.
I nodded."Yeah, we broke up nearly a month ago."
Tasha sat down on the chair in front of my desk this time.
"How are you holding up?"Tasha asked, with a large plastered across her face - one that you wouldn't expect to see while discussing a topic like this.
I sighed.
I figured now that this would be the topic of a lot of peoples' mind. Lately, dozens have people have asked me how I'm doing, now that Adrian and I are no longer an item.
My best friend, Lissa Dragomir, was the first on the phone to me, demanding how I was doing; I spent four hours explaining that I was doing alright. Of course, Christian was whining in the background the whole time (her annoying arse boyfriend, who is my friend as well. But, I would never admit that he's my friend to anyone).
Lissa, Jill (Lissa's little sister), and Christian were down in New York City visiting Uncle Victor, as he's currently suffering from the later stages of Sandovsky's Syndrome.
It's such a shame he developed this disease, it made him look like someone in their early eighties, not someone who's in their late-forties. The disease is slowly eating him away inside and out. It kills to see one of the strongest men I've ever known to look so weak and helpless; I know it's killing Lissa and Jill the most.
Victor took Lissa (15 years old) and Jill (13 years old) in after their elder brother, Andre, and their parents, Eric and Rhea, were in a fatal car crash. He is their last living relative. He treated them as if they were his blood-related daughters; I soon came to think of like a second father.
It's hard for them, but they don't show the pain around Uncle Victor that they feel about losing him. The doctors say he only has a year at most to live now; Lissa and Jill aren't wasting it.
But, that doesn't stop them being in the loop with everyone in Montana - aka, me. They apparently called Mia and Viktoria - Dimitri's little sister - spreading the news of the breakup. They were actually over the moon! I didn't realise how against my relationship with Adrian they were.
"I'm doing good, "I said. Tasha grinned if possible, even wider than before.
"That's great!"Tasha exclaimed, paused momentarily, then added."Hey, would you like to go clubbing tomorrow night with me?"
"Clubbing?"I asked."
"Yeah, Christian's new Club—Shadow kissed, opening tomorrow night. He, Lissa and Jill are driving back tomorrow morning for the opening. I was wondering if you would like to go with me?"Tasha asked nervously.
Was she asking me out on a date?
"Yes, I am, "Tasha said.
Wait, did I just say that out loud?
"Yes, you did Rose. "Tasha, amusement dripping from her voice.
"Wait, are you a- "I said.
"Lesbian, yes I am, "Tasha said.
My eyes widened."Wait, how long have you been a - you know?"
"A Lesbian?"Tasha asked.
I nodded. I didn't want to be offensive, but I couldn't contain my shock.
"Since I was seventeen going on eighteen, "Tasha replied."Well, that's when I realised I was a lesbian."
"That's around the time- "I said before, I was cut off.
"Dimka and I broke up. "Tasha finished.
I nodded.
She nodded and gave me a small smile.
"Look, you don't have to go out on a date with me: I know your straight, Rose. But, sometimes after a bad break up people fancy a change. You know, maybe even start dating people of the same gender."Tasha stated." I'm not going to lie Rose. I kind of like you. I have done for a while—I never said anything, but trying exploring other options with a friend can make it a little easier. But, I won't pressure you at all."
"Thank you Tasha, but I- "I said.
"Would you at least like to have lunch and just talk as friends? You know, to offload?"Tasha asked, with hope glistening in her ice-blue eyes.
"Sure, why not? Loading off does sound nice to me, "I replied.
"Good, "Tasha grinned."Well, I'll give Dimka's branch a call to see what they have in their database. We can go out for lunch once I'm back?"
"Okay, that sounds like a plan to me,"I said while giving her a warm smile.
Tasha then left my office.
-Awakening-
"So are we all clear now on what this glitch is?"I asked, my fellow agents, Ryan Aylesworth and Tamara Guardingstone while leaning against their office door.
"Yes, thank you, Rose! I swear I could kill Joel for messing up the information transferred from the Amberwood building."Tamara said, with a thick cockney accent.
Ryan and I chuckled.
"Not if I kill him first, Tara!"Ryan exclaimed, with amusement laced into his voice.
I chuckled again, pushing myself off their office wall."Well, I am off to make some phone calls- I'll see you later on; it was nice catching up with you both, though."
They nodded.
"See you, Rose!"Ryan and Tamara called.
"See you guys!"I called before closing their office door.
I leisurely walked back into my office, sitting down behind my oak desk. After settling down, I began feeling a wave of nausea washing over me. Most unusual for me, I usually have perfect health. However, I soldiered on working through the sickness.
Suddenly, I heard the phone started ringing. I picked up the office phone, answering it.
"Kiz?"Baba's voice came through the phone before I even got the chance to speak.
"Hey, baba. What's up?"I asked curiously, leaning back in my office leather chair.
"I am just phoning to see how my Kiz is holding up?"Baba asked.
"Old man, I'm fine: relax, "I said, rolling my eyes."I'm a tough cookie; after all, I am your daughter."
"Indeed you are, Kiz, "Baba amused. He paused briefly before adding,"Adrian has been calling for the past three weeks about a hundred times a day, demanding to know where you are. Zmey doesn't take orders or requests from little shits."
I chuckled.
"I've blocked his number on my phone, "I explained."He probably thinks I'm still in Turkey with you."
"Kiz, I want you to be careful. Adrian doesn't sound like himself; he might try something soon, "Baba expressed."Thankfully, Dimka got your back and lives on the other side of the city."
My parents knew about my new living arrangement.
"I will do. Don't worry, baba, "I reassured.
"Okay, Kiz, "Baba added."Well, I'll get you get on with work; I don't want my Montana branch falling from its' targets."
"Love you and màthair!"I said.
"We love you too, Kiz, "Baba said before hanging up.
-Awakening-
For lunch, Tasha and I headed over to The Golden Lily restaurant, located ten minutes from our workplace. My branch and Dimitri's branch often met up during the lunch hour at this restaurant.
However, today Dimitri, Ivan, and Mikhail couldn't make lunch today; Viktoria and Nikolai included too. Everyone else was working, or out of town; Tasha and I went to lunch alone today.
"Let's take the booth in the back, "Tasha said as she closed the restaurant door.
I nodded."Sure, lead the way."
I followed Tasha to the back of the restaurant. She sat down in the circular, black-leather coloured booth. I sat down opposite her, placing my handbag beside me. She then pulled out six files and placed them down on the booth table.
"Is this information that I asked you to get?"I asked.
"Yeah, I got everything I could, "Tasha said and handed me the files."It has all the information about the missing victims and all their police reports too."
I opened up the first file up.

She was said to have arrived at the Markets at 12:00 pm according to witnesses and disappeared at around 4:10 pm. One witness - who wanted to remain anonymous - saw Avery walk out the Markets, with six men dressed in head to toe in black. A-
"Hello, my name is Inna, I'll be your waitress today, "Inna said."What can I get you both?"
I looked up from Avery's file at Inna.
"Oh, I'll have a large cheese pizza, with chips, doughnuts, and a coke, "I said.
Inna wrote down my order on a notepad.
"And I'll have the spicy chicken curry, with some nachos, and a diet coke, "Tasha said.
"Anything else?"Inna asked.
We shook our heads.
"Okay, I'll get this order placed for you now. "Inna said.
We smiled at her and said,"Thank you."
-Awakening-
Soon enough the food arrived.
Suddenly, the fumes of the food instantly made my stomach turn; I ended up rushing over to the bathroom.
Fortunately, Tasha followed me inside and held my hair as I violently vomited. She rubbed smooth and soft circular motions on my back, as I continued puking my guts out.
"Shh, it's okay, "Tasha whispered.
I gripped the toilet seat with the palms of my hands.
After another ten minutes of puking, I stopped. I flushed the toilet and walked out of the stall. I then turned on the tap water and washed my face.
"You okay, Rose?"Tasha asked gently, leaning against the sink beside me. I splashed my face a couple of times with water.
"Yes, I'll be fine, "I replied.
I was fine, apart from feeling a little tired and still a little sick again.
"Rose, I think you should take the rest of the day off. "Tasha said.
I nodded; I didn't have the energy to fight back.
"Want me to drive you home?"Tasha asked.
"Thanks, that would be great. "I said.
Soon enough, I was home. I got changed into shorts and a tank top before jumping into bed.
"I'm going to go call Dimka. I'll be right back. "Tasha said as she pulled the covers on mine and Dimitri bed.
If Tasha noticed the mixture of male and female belongings around the room: she didn't mention it.
Tasha kissed my forehead and left the door opened slightly. I felt my eyes dropping instantly; I tried to keep my eyes open, but it was no use as the darkness overthrew me.
What did you guys think?
