Chapter 2: Days With You

Finally leaving the underground safe room (after extensive questioning from the royal army and a generous 100,000J donation from King Fiore himself), Persephone found herself wandering through the courtyard of a magnificent Palace. She had learned from the grumpy old man that the palace was named Mercurius and home to King Toma and Princess Hisui Fiore. She barely registered him telling her about the Grand Magic Games that had just concluded and a large ruckus that had followed the games the day after, she was far too focused on finding Fairy Tail and trying to find out more about what happened almost 400 years ago.

"Where do I even begin looking for the Fairy Tail guild?" She muttered to herself as she made her way through the capital.

The city was huge and full of so many different buildings and shops, nothing like what she was used to seeing growing up. Everything was just so different, the clothes were different, the construction of buildings was different, even the vendors were selling things Persephone had never even heard of. What the heck is a compact communications lacrima anyway? The streets were lined with so many people and children could be heard laughing and playing. There were street entertainers and music playing creating such a wonderful environment it was difficult for Persephone not to get distracted and join in.

"The old man said the guilds should still be in the city but it's so big, I don't know what I'm doing or where I'm going. I'm just going to end up getting myself into trouble if I keep wandering around. I should probably just ask someone." She finally decided but not before puffing out her cheeks in frustration and letting out a heavy sigh. "Erm, e-excuse me sir, but do you know where I might be able to find the Fairy Tail guild?" She asked one of the vendors that had a very gentle, careworn face.

"Oh hello there! My, aren't you a sight for sore eyes." The older gentleman said with a warm smile. "Yes I believe they are staying at the Honeybone Inn just on the other side of town, though I'm not sure if they are still there. There's a city map just at the end of the street here that could give you better directions if that helps." He added, his smile not faltering for a second.

"That is most helpful! Thank you so very much!" Persephone gave a quick courteous bow of her head to show her gratitude and quickly turned in the direction the vendor pointed her in. Her excitement grew more and more with each step she took.

As she was approaching the large board that she assumed must be the city directory, she noticed a small pink figure standing in front of it with a hand pressed to its chin. The closer Persephone got to the figure the more details she took in. The creature itself bore green fur with features of a cat but was wearing a pink frog costume. The poor little thing was harboring a terrified face as it stared at the map.

"Hi there little one. Looking to do a little shopping?" Persephone asked with a soothing voice. Part of her magical ability allowed her to sense the emotions of living things and could always respond accordingly. It was clear that the little one was scared and lost but Persephone could sense determination emanating as well.

"Eh?" The kitty-frog turned to Persephone only now registering her presence. "Uh, mhmm." He nodded timidly.

"Well aren't you a brave one. I wish I were as brave as you. You see, I'm trying to find a guild but I seem to be lost." She said, trying to reassure the creature beside her as she glanced at the map.

"L-lost?" He asked, his eyes never leaving Persephone's face.

"Yeah," she sighed, "but thanks to you I think I feel a little more inspired not to give, and to keep trying. My name is Persephone by the way." She added as she crouched down to the kitty-frog as she sensed a changed in his emotions.

"Fro's name is Frosch." A smile suddenly graced Frosch's lips as he became more and more comforted by Persephone's presence but it suddenly fell as he added, "Fro is lost too but he needs to learn how to get back home."

"Poú! Poú, where are you! Please come home, I need you!" Persephone yelled as she wandered through the village looking for her vulpine friend.

Alepoú, being the happy-go-lucky creature that he was, often wandered off on his own without thinking of the repercussions should he get lost. Usually Persephone was quick to pick up on his trail and locate his whereabouts, however this time was different. Persephone had fallen asleep by a river on the outskirts of her village and by the time she had woken up, Alepoú's trail had gone cold.

Fear and remorse seeped through her body as she searched every inch of the village looking for her companion but no one had seen him. The sun had long since set and Persephone found herself back at the river, staring at her reflection, and feeling angry with herself for losing the one precious thing she had in her life.

"What is the point of having this magic power if I can't even use it find my friend?" She chastised herself.

She sat there for what felt like hours trying to combine all of her senses with her magical ability to find Alepoú. The attempts weren't likely to work, she knew this, but she couldn't stand the idea of giving up on her best friend. She wondered if he was okay, if he was afraid, and if he was hungry. Suddenly a familiar scent invaded her nose and she instantly jumped to her feet following the scent. A few moments later, as she ran through the trees surrounding the area, she finally found who she was looking for.

"Alepoú! There you are! I was so worried about you." Persephone exclaimed as she ran to take the scared looking Fennekey into her arms. "I've missed you. I've missed you. I've missed you."

"Sephy, Poú is so sorry," he cried. "Poú saw a fox that looked just like him so Poú tried to follow him but got lost. Poú tried to remember how to get back to Sephy, he tried so hard. Poú is so sorry!" He cried.

"Poú, it's okay. I found you. That is all that matters. You are okay now. We are okay now." Persephone put the Fennekey down and brought her two hands together grasping them firmly and knelt to the ground. She closed her eyes and silently recited an incantation as a magic circle began to form. A bright light emanated from her clasped hands for a few moments before slowly fading away. Persephone opened her hands and in her palms laid a necklace with a rainbow crystal-like pendant hanging from the center. "Poú, this is for you. It's a special lacrima that will guide you wherever you want to go. It changes colors based on how close or far away you may be getting. It turns completely red when you've finally reached your destination and it turns blue if you've gone too far off course. Now you'll never lose your way again." Persephone explained as she placed the necklace on the awestruck Fennekey.

"So it will always bring Poú to Sephy?"

"If that is what you want."

"Poú will always want to be with Sephy!" He grinned brightly as he took his hand away from the lacrima pendant and tackled Persephone in a tearful hug.

"P'sefomy?"

Unaware that her mind had suddenly drifted off to an unwanted memory, Persephone was suddenly shaken back to reality with a small smile forming on her lips. She looked at Frosch who was looking back at her with concern in his eyes and her smile grew even wider. "You remind me of someone I knew a long time ago. Call me 'Sephy'."

Frosch continued to look at Persephone, the worrisome look slowly turning back into a childish grin that spread from cheek to cheek. "Fro likes Sephy!"

"Sephy likes Fro!" She giggled back.

If she hadn't been so focused on helping Frosch feel less scared, she would have right away noticed the presence of three other people and another cat that were watching the scene not too far in the distance. However, she eventually did noticed them and wasn't particularly comfortable with the current audience. Although the onlookers didn't feel as though they had any malicious intent, she was sure not to let her guard down, especially for Frosch's sake.

"Say Fro, I haven't eaten in quite a while, can I treat you to some lunch before we try to figure out where we need to go?" She asked, mostly as an attempt to distract herself from the lot that felt very interested in the current conversation.

"Fro thinks so too!" He exclaimed in utter delight. Persephone may have been mistaken but she was sure she saw fish dancing in Frosch's eyes.

The two set off for lunch and all the while they conversed (mostly just Frosch talking about all the things he loves) and shared many laughs together. Persephone quickly learned of Frosch's love for frogs, claiming he was one and although Persephone had her doubts, she didn't try to correct him. She learned about Frosch's partner, Rogue, who was his best friend and of Rogue's partner Sting and his best friend Lector. Nothing but positive comments came out of the exceed's (she assumed Frosch was technically an exceed when he began telling stories of Lector and of the time he tried to tell Frosch that he wasn't actually a frog) mouth and Persephone's heart warmed more than she ever thought possible.

It took her a few moments to finally understand that the audience she and Frosch still had, must have been the friends he had mentioned but that did not help lower her guard. Unlike earlier where she felt no malicious intent coming from any of them, she could now feel one from the group had gained a much more threatening aura. There was that and she used to her magic to hear what they currently were saying.

"Sting, let go of me. This has gone on long enough. I don't care who she is, I can't just sit here and watch as that thief tries to kidnap Frosch!"

"Hey, man! Relax! It ain't like that and you know it! Just calm down, at least Frosch has stayed in one place for longer than a minute."

"She'll be sorry! I won't stand for this!"

"Yukino, Lector, don't just stand there! Tell 'im to stop being so dramatic."

"Rogue, just take a deep breath, everything is fine. We won't let anything happen to Frosch. We're right here watching him, there's nothing to fret over."

"We can't let this happen! I-"

Persephone blocked out the rest, entirely uninterested in what else the idiot had to say. Clearly he was very overprotective of his best friend and she respected that, but being threatened without actual reason wasn't something she was fond of. However, just as she thought about this "Rogue's" negative perception of Persephone, she realized they really weren't so different. She had been just as protective over Alepoú as he clearly was over Frosch. Her chest tightened for a moment before looking at her current companion that was very much enthralled in his fish.

Bringing her hands together with them grasped firmly to each other, Persephone closed her eyes and silently recited an incantation as a magic circle began to form. A bright rainbow light emanated from her clasped hands stunning the exceed. She opened her hands just as she had done with Alepoú and just like then, in her palms lay a necklace with a rainbow crystal-like pendant hanging from the center.

Persephone took a deep and heavy breath before looking at the stunned exceed and slowly recited, "Fro, this is for you. It's a special lacrima that will guide you wherever you want to go. It changes colors based on how close or far away you may be getting. It turns completely red when you've finally reached your destination and it turns blue if you've gone too far off course. Now you'll never lose your way again."

She could feel tears filling her eyes as she said the same words she had once said to Poú. The similarities between the two were uncanny and she almost felt jealous of Rogue for having such a best friend. She was still happy, but it was painful to be reminded of her once best friend. Frosch (much like Poú) had this aura that prevented one from feeling anything but warmth and happiness.

"Fro loves Sephy!" The exceed exclaimed as he pounced on her from where he sat, the fish long forgotten. He sat back, looking up to admire Persephone as she placed the necklace on him like she had Poú. "Fro wants to help Sephy." He said as he removed himself completely from her lap-a smile so wide it could rival a cheshire grin was plastered on his face- and made his way back toward the city map with Persephone in tow.

A few minutes of trying to figure how to read the map (a lot has changed in the last few centuries), Persephone had found her destination and was now preparing herself to say goodbye to the little ray of sunshine beside her.

"Fro wants to see Sephy again. Will Sephy visit?" He asked with a somber look in his eyes.

"Sephy promises she will do what she can to find Fro." She replied confidently.

The exceed, although feeling slightly dejected, said his goodbyes but not before reassuring Persephone that because of her, he will never fear getting lost again. She smiled and waved her goodbyes to the exceed then glanced at the map once again. She could still feel the energy from the group whom she confidently knew to be Sting, Rogue, Yukino (a guild member that Frosch spoke fondly of), and the other exceed Lector. Persephone, still hurt over Rogue's accusations, turned in the direction of a row of bushes that was being used as a barrier for separating both the main street from the city square and hiding her eavesdroppers. When she reached the group she found that their attention was on a feline-like 20-something year old woman who looked as though she were about to battle another woman, about the same age, carrying a sword.

"You really shouldn't judge those you don't know so harshly." Persephone announced immediately. Having not noticed her presence, they all turned with a startled look on each of their faces. However, none of this mattered. The only thing on Persephone's mind right now was addressing the man who had threatened her without conviction. "It's Rogue, right? I understand your need to protect Frosch, but that does not excuse your insulting misjudgment." She added while glaring threateningly at said man.

The onyx-haired member of the group stared at Persephone with his jaw slacked. He hadn't anticipated she was aware of their presence let alone could hear what they were saying. Guilt quickly etched over his face as his brain suddenly recalled the gift she had given Frosch that very clearly stated she had no interest in keeping him for herself. "Uh-I-I apologize. I cannot excuse my actions," he slowly lowered his head, "he's just too important to me, I can't help-"

"I know, I understand." She cut him off, "I will look past it this time. He's a special one."

A gentle smile was shared between the two while the three remainders of the group just stared in awe and confusion. One of the three, Yukino, was feeling an overwhelming sensation of happiness: Happy that a battle (one she assumed Rogue would have won) had been averted, happy that Rogue- no matter how small- had actually smiled for once, and happy that Frosch had met such an incredible soul. The remaining blonde, Sting, had other thoughts on his mind.

Frosch had briefly told Persephone of the Sabertooth guild and how it had changed for the better thanks to Sting becoming master, but the emotions that Persephone was receiving from Sting weren't exactly what she was expecting the "amazing Master" to be giving off. These emotions were dark-not malicious- but hungry, ravage, animalistic. Only one word could truly describe it: Lust. Pure unadulterated lust.

Persephone wasn't unfamiliar with said desire-granted it had been, again, 400 years- but she became an entirely different person when it came to the wanton sensation (thank you Aphrodite) and toying was one of her absolute favorites. Despite her kindhearted selfless nature, she was a downright minx when it came to any potential sexual interest.

Fully aware of Sting's roaming eyes, she glanced at him only long enough to give him a coy smile that told him, "I know. And I want you to know that I know." She then averted her attention to the all but neglected red exceed that was standing beside Sting.

"You must be Lector!" Persephone's demeanor had reverted back to its innocent nature and Sting stared at her wondering if what he saw was real or just a figment of his clouded imagination.

Now crouched in front of his feline friend, Sting watched as Persephone and Lector conversed about Frosch and how "awesome" Persephone was for being there and helping him, to which she giggled shyly. This woman fascinated him, not only had she helped Frosch, but she had also gotten Rogue to smile warmly and even Lector actually complimented her! This was strange, and unusual, but not unpleasant. He found himself back to his arrogant persona of thinking he was on top of the world and everyone wanted to either be him or be with him, but he knew-even though it was still only subconsciously- that sort of attitude wouldn't attract her to him. But old habits are hard to break and this woman really intrigued him so he did what most guys do best and let his mouth do the talking before his brain could filter the words first.

"That's fucking mine."

Realizing what he did, he instantly clamped his mouth shut hoping to the gods he didn't actually claim this total stranger as his out loud, or if he really had been that much of an idiot, that at least no one had heard him. By the gods please tell me no one heard that.

"Sorry? What was that?" Persephone inquired after what Sting felt was a long, deafening silence.

"U-uh Lector. Sorry, hah. Guess I can get a little over protective like Rogue." He sputtered out while scratching the back of his head with his eyes suddenly fascinated by the speck of dirt on a nearby window.

Amused, Persephone lifted herself off the ground and dusted herself off while Rogue, currently standing behind her, rolled his eyes at Sting. Both knew full well the meaning behind his words and wanted nothing more than to laugh at his pathetic attempt at a lie.

Before Rogue could push Sting's humiliation any further, Persephone intervened. "I suppose I've helped enough exceeds for one day." She smiled down at Lector with a wink. "I should get going anyway. I've got a guild to go join."

"Oh? What guild will you be joining?" It was the white-haired female that spoke this time, Yukino.

"Fairy Tail. I'm not sure if they're still here in Crocus but I should probably get going if I want to find out. Not to mention, Frosch is still walking back to your guild by himself."

At this Rogue, Yukino, and Lector yelled "Oh no!" in unison before running off in the direction the green exceed was last seen going in. A "thanks for helping Frosch" and a "good luck in Fairy Tail" were called out as the trio ran further down the road.

"You don't plan on joining them?" Persephone asked Sting who was now bearing an overconfident smile.

"Nah. The Fairies already left back to Magnolia and I couldn't forgive myself if I knowingly let a lost girl walk all the way there by herself." He slyly replied as he pushed himself off the wall he had been leaning on and nudged is head, indicating Persephone to follow him.

"Well aren't you just a gentleman, inviting yourself to accompany me." The coy smile returned.

"Ha. Get used to it." He remarked.

"Are you saying you intend to be around a lot?" She countered.

"I'm saying the day is still young."

A/N: For like a month straight I had a sick obsession with Sting Eucliffe and he's still bae. I'm 110% weak for Michael Jones' voice as Sting and I hate myself for it. ANYWHO. Hope this chapter was enjoyable for some of you and hope I'm keeping you interested in all the secrets I have yet to spill. I think I'll be uploading on Wednesdays, not necessarily every week but it will be on Wednesdays. And just to answer a review I received from the first two chapters, there's no greek mythology in Fairy Tail, that's what makes this story slightly AU. I was inspired by the history of the greek gods, their magical abilities, and the mythical creatures so I used references from the ancient Greeks and infused it with the Fairy Tail universe (think of it like the zodiac spirits? Maybe?) I only did it because there are mentions of gods in fairy tail and Mother Nature as well so why not get creative and elaborate a little more on that side? Hope that clears up the confusion. P.S. if you're looking for a really good fucking fan-fic (if you haven't already read it) please, please, please read "Your Burning, Beautiful Light" by Ordinn Beaucephalis. It's a Sting/Juvia, rated M (Very Very Very M), and it's one of my absolute favorites right now. If you live for drama like I do, I highly, highly suggest it. –Vada x
