A million thoughts raced through his mind. Should he leave? Should he go to her? Was she leaving him? Suddenly, he felt like he couldn't breathe. Allie was his whole world. Without her...he glanced at his bag where the WWE Championship title was carefully packed away, without her this meant nothing.
"Jon!"
He looked up to see Seth staring at him.
"I asked if you wanted to share a cab?" His friend eyed him questionably. "Are you okay dude? You look like you've seen a ghost."
Maybe not a ghost, but a terrible memory. The last time Allie walked away from him it took him years to get her back. The last time she walked away she left him broken and never looked back. She thought she was doing what was best for him then. Now, she was doing what she thought was best for her. And that terrified Jon. He needed her. What if she chose to live her life without him? He was a good husband, wasn't he?
Suddenly, the weight of the belt felt too heavy. He'd been away a lot this past year. He couldn't lose the love of his life, but he didnt want to lose his position in the company either. He worked so hard. Surely Allie understood that. He knew she did, but he also knew he needed to be there for her.
Seth got into the cab first and Jon slid in beside him.
"Room for one more?" A feminine voice floated into the cab.
"Sure." Seth smiled as Bayley slid into the seat beside Jon.
"Thanks, guys."
She tried to make small talk on the way to the hotel, but Jon's mind was on more important things. Allie was going back to Mill Town? That probably meant she'd be opening their house. He decided he would call her once he and Seth checked into their room. He didn't know what he would say...
"Jon, Bay asked if we wanted to get some lunch before heading to the arena." Seth once more pulled him out of his thoughts.
"Yeah, come on Ambrose. You gotta eat." She placed a hand on his shoulder in a gesture that felt just a little too personal.
"No thanks. I gotta make some calls." He said abruptly and pushed past her to his room. Hr looked up from his phone when he heard the door open.
"You didn't wanna go?" He asked Seth.
"Nah, she said she'd rain check me." He shrugged and dropped his bag on his bed. "Besides...I have a feeling I'm needed here."
Jon chuckled. "Since when are you a relationship expert?"
"Since never. But, I can see something is up with you."
Jon walked out onto the balcony, leaving the door open behind him. He looked out at the city, took and deep breath and turned to look his friend in the eyes. "I think Allie left me."
"You aren't serious?" The shock on Seth's face pained Jon.
"I'm about to call her and find out...but I honestly dont think I wanna know, man. It's been hard lately, but...I never saw this comin."
"Call her, Jon!"
He took a deep breath and pulled her number up. His hands were shaking as he put the phone to his ear.
One ring.
Two...
"Jon." Her sweet voice sent ripples of relief up his spine.
"Allie...where are you? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Jon. I just got here about 20 minutes ago. I'm at the house now."
Her voice was so calm. Too calm. It scared Jon senseless.
"Allie...did you...I mean...are we...did you leave me?" He held his breath and waited.
She sighed, "No, Jonathan, I did not leave you. But, we're in trouble Jon. Our marriage is in real trouble. I love you, but I wanna be more than just your wife. I want to be "me" again. I need a fresh start. You're welcome to come and joinki me. I'd love to work on us, but if you dont show, I will have to come to terms with that. I know you've got responsibilities you cant just walk away from. I understand that." She explained calmly, but in her head she was screaming for him to fight for her. Like he did before, when he won her heart.
"Allie. I can't just drop everything. You know I cant!"
"I know, Jon."
She was too calm. It scared him. It sounded like she didnt care whether he came or went. Didnt she love him truely anymore? Didnt she care? Was she not willing to fight for them?
"Listen, I gotta go Jon. Check in with me after RAW. I'll try and watch, okay."
He barely muttered a response before he heard the line go dead. He could go straight to Hunter and ask for time off, but that would mean giving up the title. He wasn't ready to do that. He wasn't ready to lose his wife, either.
When RAW started his mind was anywhere but on the show, and his heart was hundreds of miles away in the hands of a beautiful girl with long black hair.
