Christine knocked on the door of apartment 2G. A few moments later a blonde woman opened the door.
"Can I help you?" She asked.
"Sorry, I must have the wrong apartment. I'm here to see Adrian Monk." "No this is his place. Come on in." The woman stood aside and allowed Christine to enter. "I'm Natalie Teeger. Mr. Monk's assistant."
"Christine Daae." Christine said, forcing a smile.
"Nice to meet you Christine. What can I help you with?"
"Well I-"
"Natalie!" A voice called. "I need you to drive me-Who's this?" A man, who Christine assumed was Adrian Monk, came into the hallway.
"I'm Christine Daae, Mr. Monk." Christine stuck out her hand, which Monk
shook. Natalie then proceeded to hand him a wipe. Christine gave him an odd look, but said nothing. "I need your help with a case."
"Perfect!" Natalie cried. "You've been looking for something to do."
"Natalie, we haven't even heard what the case is." Monk turned back to Christine.
"It's my fiancé, Mr. Monk. He was accused of murder, but he didn't do it! I know he didn't!"
"Whose your fiancé?" Natalie asked.
"Erik Destler."
"Oh yeah. I read about that in the paper. He's the one with the mask right?"
"Ri-"
"Wait, a mask?" Monk asked, looking at Christine.
"Yes."
"A mask?" Monk repeated.
"Uh, yeah." Christine said again. "Is that a problem?"
"But why a mask?"
"Mr. Monk, do you have a problem with the fact that my fiancé where's a mask?" Christine finally snapped.
"No, of course not." Natalie stepped in, shooting Monk a look that said 'if you don't take this job I'll kill you'. "He'll take it."
"No," Monk interrupted. "I can't take it. Sorry, but no."
"Mr. Monk please!" Christine cried. "You're the only one who can do it."
"Christine, I sure someone else will take the case. I can-
"Mr. Monk, have you ever been in love?" Christine asked suddenly.
"W-what?" Monk stuttered.
"To be in love. To be willing to die for someone. That's how I feel about Erik…have you ever felt that way for someone?"
The was a moment of silence. "I'll take the case." Monk whispered.
Sorry it was short. I hope I portrayed Monk correctly. He's a difficult character to write. I've asked my sister to look this chapter over because she loves Monk and will be able to correct anything I did wrong. Till then I thought I'd give you this!
