Mt. Justice

November 5th, 4:47 pm

I came down the elevator with Artemis and Zatanna to a heart wrenchingly familiar scene. I mentally cursed myself. I totally forgot.

Zatanna screamed.

Artemis turned to me. "Where are they?" she asked quietly, rage boiling just under the surface. Kaldur turned to me. "Yes, I'd like to know that as well."

I rubbed my face tiredly. "You already knew this was going to happen. This was the incident I warned you guys about. I forgot."

Conner stared at me. "It seems like you're hiding a lot of things. How do we know that you're not the mole?" I snapped. "I'm not the mole! It's R-" I stopped myself before I gave anything away. "Never mind that now. It's never a good thing to know too much of your future. Believe me, I know."

Wally scoffed. "As if. You don't know anything." I glared at him. He took a step back, and his expression told me that he knew he had gone too far.

"Don't. Don't talk talk about things you don't know or understand. Do you know how many times I've cried? The future is not a happy place. Do you know how many times I've revised everything, inserting changes I'm going to make, watching to see what kind of butterfly effect would happen because of that change, hoping that it would be worth it, attempting to save your sorry butt. Don't talk about things you don't know about," I snapped.

I turned and went up the elevators to the mission briefing room and pulled up a holographic image of the earth. Robin walked in behind me.

"Hey," he said quietly. I nodded, staring at the globe as it rotated. "Did you mean what you said?" he asked. I raised an eyebrow. "Which part?"

"Everything."

I sighed. "I'm going to take that as a yes, you know," Robin smirked. I turned to him. "I meant it," I said quietly. "I've hardly gotten any sleep since I've gotten here, trying to make sure no one dies. Trying to make sure we win. Trying to make sure everything happens the way it's needs to."

"Who dies?" Robin asked, just as quietly. I stared at my shoes. "I can't tell you that."

"Does Wally?"

I looked up at him. "What makes you say that?" I asked evenly. He shrugged. "Just the way you said you were trying to save him." I resumed staring at the globe.

"Well? I'm waiting." I turned to face him. "I'm not sure," I whispered. Robin laughs. "How can you not be sure?"

"Just that, I'm not sure."

Robin stared at me like I had grown a second head. "I'm not sure I understand."

"Neither am I," I hugged myself. Robin shook his head. "Glimpse, I think you're the strangest person I've ever met." I smirked. "Thanks, but after you've met D-, um, never mind."

"So does he die?" Robin asked. I smiled sadly. "I really don't know." Robin raised an eyebrow. "Okay." I was glad he didn't press.

The rest of the Team walked in behind me. "Where to, Glimpse?" Artemis asked. "Roanoke Island," I said quietly. "SHAZAM!" we heard someone shout behind us. A small smile tugged on my lips. There's Billy. Everyone turned around. Kaldur walked over to Billy. "Who are you and how did you get here?" he demanded. Billy turned to M'ghan. "Quick, read my mind!" he told her. "No need," I cut in. "It's Captain Marvel."

Billy looked at me in confusion. "Who are you?" he asked. I waved the question away. "No time. You've figured out what you can do?" Billy nodded. "Good. Now, we can jut hope for the best." Wally gaped at me. "Glimpse! What in Batman's name is going on?!" I sighed an ran a had through my hair.

"Short version or long version?" "Short," everyone said immediately. "Okay, here goes. Five magic users have split this dimension in two, one for kids and one for adults. They are currently on Roanoke Island. We have to fight Klarion, the League has to fight everyone else. We have to get the jewel from the middle of the magic pentagon. Billy here can travel between the dimensions, seeing as he can be both a kid and an adult. We need all hands on deck. I'm not sure how much I'll mess up by telling you this, but you have to trust me."

Kaldur nodded. "Team, to the Bio-ship."

...

I sat in the Bioship trying not to grin like a maniac. I was actually doing this! Then I remembered, I had to keep Zatanna, or anyone, from putting on the Helmet of Fate.

I swiveled around in my chair to tell everyone, when M'gahn said, "We're here." I pulled out my blowgun and stood up with the rest of the Team.

"Why a blowgun?" Robin asked, motioning to my hand. I shrugged. "Long story. Why birdarangs?" Robin smirked. "Touché."

we slipped out of the Bioship and crept through the wheat stalks to where Klarion was chanting.

"Link established. Is everyone online?"

"Present."

"Yeah."

"Here."

"Online."

"You know it, beautiful."

"Yup."

"Glimpse?" Miss. M asked.

"I'm here."

"Well, I can't get through to you easily."

I frowned.

"Huh, I have several ideas as to why that might be, but we can discuss this later."

"Glimpse is right. Move out."

The Team ran forward, attacking Klarion. I crouched behind a wheat stalk and loaded darts into my blowgun. I aimed for the cat first. "Yeowl..." it moaned as it lost consciousness.

"Teekl!" Klarion yelled. "Alright, who did that? It's not nice to her other peoples familiars!"

"Glimpse, was that you?"

I smirked.

"Sure. I did a double dose. Who knows how many enchantments are protecting that thing."

I reloaded my blowgun and move to another stalk to try to take out Klarion.

Slowly but surely, my teammates were knocked out. I raised my blowgun to my lips. My eyes widened and realization and I turned at the last second.

"Zatanna, no!" I shouted both mentally and out loud. Wally and Kaldur agreed with me when they saw what she was doing. In desperation, I shot a dart towards her. The Helemet came down, turning her into Dr. Fate. hit a shield that formed out of golden energy and bounced off. Dr. Fate turned to me. "You dare?" he asked. I shook my head. "I had to stop her!"

Dr. Fate raised his hand in my direction, sending a beam of magic causing the stalks around me to grow into bond that held me down. I granted and frustration and fucked my wrist, allowing one of my knives and concealed to shoot into my hand. I began sewing at the bonds, barely making a dent.

Out of the corner of my eye, the battle was progressing the same way I had remembered it. With the flash, the two worlds clash together to make one.

Robin and Artemis ran over to help me. "I couldn't stop her," I muttered. "Hey, you tried," Artemis said. I shook my head. "All my fault. I couldn't, I couldn't- look!" Robin and Artemis turn to see Zatara taking the Helmet.

"Oh," Robin said quietly. "You were trying to keep Zatanna from father." I nodded sadly.

Dr. Fate flew over and Robin and Artemis took defensive stances in front of me.

"Step aside."

The white eyes of Robin's mask narrowed and his hands drifted in the direction of his escrizma sticks.

"Step aside. I will not ask again."

"Robin. Artemis. Stand down," Aqualad said. Their hands dropped to their sides and they went to stand by their mentors. I flicked my wrist again and my knife slipped back up my sleeve.

"Why did you attack me?"

I scowled at the ground. "I didn't. I shot a dart at Zatanna, trying to prevent her from putting on the Helmet. I was too late."

"And yet you still tried to escape."

My scowl deepened. "Well I don't know about you, but I hate being sidelined."

Dr. Fate his hands and my bindings fell away. I stood up and glared at the ground. "Thanks," I muttered. They took his captives and left.

"Thanks for trying," Zatanna whispered.

Later

Zatanna walked into the mission briefing room after coming back from Roanoke with tears pouring down her face. "Did you know?" she asked. I didn't say anything. "Glimpse, please tell me. Did you know?" she sobbed. I sighed and looked at her sadly. "I did," I said finally. "I forgot to warn you in the excitement". Your father would do anything for you, Zatanna."

She sank down to her knees, crying. "I shouldn't have put on that stupid helmet!" she cried. I crossed over to her side and hugged her as she sobbed. "I'd say it's going to be okay, but I know that you don't want to hear that right now."

She whiped her eyes. "How do you know? Have you lost someone before?" I smiled sadly. "Yes."

"Will you tell me? You don't have to if you don't want to, but I really need something to distract me." "Of course," I said.

"It happened last week, actually. I couldn't sleep one night, so I went up to the attic. My dad was paranoid, so he set up security cameras in the kitchen, living room, and outside. I was watching the feeds. I saw a group of strange men with guns break in. I texted my dad and called the police. I recognized the lead man as one of my father's rivals at work. My dad entered the room... and... I don't really need to tell you what happened next." Zatanna covered her mouth. I smiled sadly at her.

"My family woke up from the sound of the gun shot. They were all taken down. I called the police again, and they finally arrived. They apprehended the men, except for the leader. I showed the cops the security video and told then who the man was. They went to the man's house and arrested his family who had been involved, but the man got away. My parents were only children, and my grandparents had died several years ago. I was alone with no one to take me in, so I was going to have to go to a foster home. The people who went to pick me up took their stupid slogans and posters way too literally. They gave me a domino mask because, 'I could be a hero too'. I put on the mask, grabbed my backpack and ukulele, and walked outside. The man showed up, shot me in the shoulder and said that,'I had gotten his family arrested, so I was going to pay'. Then, he brought out a different gun that looked like something from a sci-fi film. He told me that I deserved to be in more pain than normal, and that dying a normal death was too kind for me. He shot me with it as he told me that he didn't know where it would take me. I woke up in the Watchtower medbay. Apparently, the guy didn't know that it would take me somewhere where people would help. Namely the Justice League."

I helped Zatanna as she stood up shakily. "Thank you," she whispered. "I knew that you appeared in the Watchtower in the middle of a meeting, but I didn't know how. now that I know," she broke off. I smiled sadly at her, my eyes blurring with unshed tears. "Let's go help you unpack," I told her gently.
