Chapter II
Black Fog
1 Week Before Date a Live
He opened his eyes and was greeted with pure darkness,
"Oh hi, I didn't see you there."
"Hello again."
"Again?"
"Yeah, remember yesterday?"
"Yesterday? No, not really, maybe I was tired."
There were somethings wrong though. The way he talked was more laid back and casual compared to last time.
"Anyways I want to talk about, uhhh, my body."
"What do you mean?"
"Well now that am, half-alive half-dead, I want to know if anything changed."
"Oh like that. Yeah, there's a lot to cover. Uhhh, your body is in a state of limbo, I think that's the right way to tell you. You don't have to eat, sleep, and you won't run out of energy. Also using the bathroom is a neat thing as well, but showering is still important because you can still get dirty."
"Are there other things?"
"Well yes, but we'll save the rest for another day. Those are basically, the 'traits' that'll affect you every day. Any more questions?"
Mitsuru did but didn't feel it was right to ask.
"No, I'll see you later."
"Have a nice time-
"I know, I know. Don't lose yourself."
"Actually I was going to say be careful who you trust."
"Another day of school," Shido said to himself as he lifted himself up from his bed. Tohka, also awake, greeted him with her high pitched and happy voice," Hi Shido!" "Hello, Tohka," Shido replied. He brushed his teeth, dressed, and went downstairs. Kotori was sitting at the table with the tiny little pink lollipop in her mouth. "No candy before breakfast." Shido quickly snatched the lollipop away from her."Hey, what was that for?" she whined back. Yoshino sat quietly on the couch listening to a heroic story being by Yoshinon. As Shido cooked breakfast, he heard about a strange phenomenon happening where a spacequake would be detected, only for the area assumed to be blown up, be covered in a thick layer of black, smelly fog. People say that being in the fog for more than 30 seconds could be dangerous or even fatal. "This has been happening for 3 years now. I don't know anything that strange." Kotori spoke up. "Hmm, that is strange. Do you think it's a new type of spirit?" Shido commented. "New? I don't think spirits come in different types, but so far this one is showing signs unlike any other " "Anyways we have to get to school before the bell rings, so eat up quickly." Dinner was ready and like always Tohka would be first to eat and first to finish. Tohka and Shido headed for school. As they walked Shido heard people talking about the news. "What going on with these weird spacequakes?" "Yeah, didn't you hear? Apparently, like ten people who didn't get to a shelter in time all got severe cases of the flu." Then Tohka spoke up, "Shido do you think the new spirit will be friendly?"
"I hope so, but right now we have to get to school." Just then the spacequake alarm sounded, and from above the shy turned into the mix of purple and back smog. "Tohka get to the school. I don't you to get involved with the AST!" "But Shido wha-"Tohka was cut off. "I'll be fine, trust me," Shido, grabbed her hand, looking into eyes. "Okay, I trust you," and then he ran off.
Mitsuru was getting the hang of going back and forth from home to Tenguu City now that he starting doing it more often, but the attention he attracted concerned him, especially when that he was hunted down by what looked like high school girls in provocative suits that let them fly and laser swords. Probably for that one time he got seven people sick with the flu. He found himself at the center of an intersection covered in a black fog. Like always he was alone, except the AST showed up and Mitsuru had lost his glasses. "Target cited. Today, Death knocked the wrong door, all units spread and attack at him at all angles!" One of the girls ordered. "Uhhhhhhh could you refrain from absolutely obliterating me. I know you hate me and everything and I kind of got seven, NOT TEN, people sick, but I seem to have lost my spectacles and uhhhhhhh I can't quite see without them! I know, kind of pathetic for something that is supposed to caused collateral damage, well maybe hundreds of dollars worth of medical bill is really bad. " Of course, everyone but a certain girl stopped: Origami Tobiichi. When she flew in closer though, she could see that surprisingly the spirit was a male and that he was wearing a school uniform, specifically, a uniform worn by students at Raizen High. "Who are you?" she yelled towards the spirit. "My name is Mitsuru Kano and I'm suppose to get to uhhhhthe local high in about 10 minutes. Could you help me find my spectacles?" Unlike how any of her fellow AST members or anyone in the world would expect for her to react to this, she flew down and told him, "Your glasses are right in front of you." He felt around and grabbed onto his glasses "Oh. Oh. They are. Wow, I'm stupid aren't I. Thank you very much for helping me and not killing me. Oh also do you know how to get to uhhhhhhh... " He took out a notebook and asked, "Do you know how to get to Raizen High School?" He waitedfor an answer "Why would you need to know?" "I think the school uniform answers you question." In another turn of event Origami actually pointed towards the school far off in the distance."It's over there." Off in the distance the school stood. "Oh. Thank you very much. I'll be heading off now. I'm sorry for the inconvenience uhhh here take this." he handed Tobiichi a 1000 yen banknote "Get yourself a bentobox," and with that, he walked off, but not before taking a glimpse of a young man in a school uniform with blue hair. "Why. Why did I hesitate? Why did I help him?" She clenched her fist. "I will kill him next time, but, there's many things off with him."
