Anubis's POV

"So, your idea of celebrating for the new school year is a party in the middle of the woods?" I ask Horus as we carry some coolers up the hill to a little opening in the woods. It had open land area and a pond with a small waterfall that was half my height.

"Yes," Horus says. "Besides, this will give you a chance to meet a few people so you won't be a complete stranger on the first day of school. You'll know some people."

"I don't do parties Horus," I say. "You know this."

"Anubis," Horus says. "Have you ever even been to a party?"

"Birthday parties, unwillingly, my mom made me go." I tell him.

"You've never been to an actual high school party?" Horus asks.

"No," I say. "I got invited, I just never wanted to go."

"So, I'm hearing that I have a whole school year to give you high school experiences that you'll remember for the rest of your life." Horus says.

"You don't have to," I say.

"Yes," Horus says. "If I want to be a nice caring cousin, I have to. Don't you worry. This is going to be a year that you will never forget."

Horus and I head back to the car and grab more of the party supplies. I knew there was nothing I was going to say to stop Horus from giving me high school experiences. I was just going to have to suffer through it.

Horus and I sat in two camping chairs. We finished decorating the place for the party. By decorating, I mean adding some lights and setting up a place for food and drinks. Horus had brought some stuff to set up speakers for music. The party was going to start in an hour, we decided to sit and wait for people to show up. I pull out a picture from my pocket. The picture of me and Sadie at camp.

"You still carry that picture?" Horus asks. "You've had that for ten years now."

"That summer was one of my favorite memories. This girl, changed my life." I tell him.

Horus looks over at the picture. "That girl looks oddly familiar."

"You've probably seen her in this picture before. I showed it to you before." I explain.

Horus and I were interrupted by a couple of guys coming up the pathway. "Horus!" One of them says. This guy was athletic. He had coffee-bean brown skin, very short black hair, and brown eyes. He wore jeans and a basketball jersey. I recognize him as Walt, the guy Horus talked to the other day. I remembered seeing some blonde girl in his car, maybe a girlfriend.

"Walt," Horus walks over and they do some sort of handshake. Horus and the other guy give each other a bro hug. The other guy was pale with red hair and brown eyes. He also had an athletic build. He wore a white tank top and some jean shorts. "Anubis," Horus says. "This is Walt Stone and Sean Ryan. They are a couple of guys that play both football and basketball. Walt and Sean, this is my cousin Anubis Anderson."

"Nice to meet you man," Walt says and holds out his hand. I shake it.

"You too, both of you." I say. I hold my hand and Sean shakes it. I put my hand in my pockets of my jacket.

"I have to go make a couple of calls," Horus says. "I'll be right back."

Horus leaves me with the two guys. "So, you're finishing your last year at Rosewood?" Walt asks.

"Yeah," I say. "My mom had a job opportunity in London. She wanted me to move in with my aunt and uncle to finish off my senior year."

"You must miss everyone at your old school," Sean says. "By senior year you already have friends and everything."

"I didn't have anyone that I was going to miss," I say. "I usually kept to myself. Not a very social person."

"Walt! Sean!" A voice calls. "What's up guys!"

"Matt!" Sean walks up and hugs him. "Where's your sister?"

"She's going to be here later," He says. "She's with our cousin and their friends."

"Anubis," Walt says. "This is Matthew Kane, we call him Matt."

Matt and Sean walk up to us. "He man," Matt says. "Nice to meet you."

"You too," I say.

"Matthew here has a twin sister," Sean says. "Her name is Maia. So later if you see a girl that looks like him, it's her."

"I got some of the guys picking up pizza," Horus says returning. He notices Matt. "Matthew, hey man." Horus gives Matt a fist bump.

"Hey buddy," Matthew says.

"Carter didn't want to come?" Horus asks.

"No," Matthew says. "You know him, he'd rather be doing anything else."

"Carter is Matthew's cousin," Horus explains to me. "He's very smart and he is the senior class president. Not the party kind of guy but he's pretty cool."

"Good to know," I say. Horus's goal was to get me to know something about everyone so that I knew what to do when school starts, I'm not surrounded by complete strangers.

"Where's Julian and Paul?" Matt asks.

"They are the guys who went on the pizza run," Horus tells them. "They'll be here shortly."

Horus, Walt, Sean, and Matt were all talking over in a group. I sat back in my camp chair and watched a couple of birds chirping in the trees. After a little while a group of girls showed up. They all had a jacket that said 'Rosewood Cheer Team'. The girl in the front she was a tall pretty Asian girl. She had brown eyes and black hair. She wore some short red shorts with a black tank top and the bottom half was cut off. There was a red rose in the middle of the chest. She wore some white converse. There were three other girls with her. The one right by her was blonde, she had blue eyes, she wore a simple short white dress and white converse with her jacket. The other two girls both had brown hair, one had grey eyes and the other one had blue. The grey eyed girl wore a white skirt and a black shirt. The blue-eyed girl had jean shorts and a white shirt. They both wore white converse like the other too.

"Hey girls," Horus says. "Drew, glad you could make it. Where's the rest of your squad?"

"Maia is with her loser of a cousin and their loser friends," The Asian girl says, which I assume is Drew. "Zia decided to go hang out with her loser boyfriend."

I already knew that I did not like this girl. "There's someone I'd like to introduce you girls to." I get up and walk towards them. "This is my cousin Anubis Anderson," He says. "Anubis, this is Drew Tanaka, Jaz Anderson no relation to us, Riley Miller, and Hope Holland."

Drew studied me for a minute and smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Anubis. I heard you were moving all the way from Portland. I'm sure your girlfriend must miss you."

"No girlfriend," I say.

"Oh," Drew says. She places a hand on my shoulder. "Well, maybe I could change that."

"I think I'll pass," I say stepping away from Drew. "I'm not really looking for a girlfriend."

"Leave the guy alone," The blonde girl said. "You're going to scare him off before he even gets his first day in at school." The blonde girl looks at me and holds out her hand. "Jaz," She says. "Nice to meet you."

"You too," I say.

"I'm Hope," The grey eyed girl says. "That's Riley."

"Hope," Matt says. "How's it going?"

"Great," She says. "Oh, I told my brother that he was a stupid idiot for leaving your cousin in the streets of Brooklyn the other day."

"Nathan is an asshole," Walt says.

"Who's Nathan?" I ask Horus

"Nathan is a guy who dropped out of school a couple years ago to take over his fathers 'business'. Hope's brother. He was raised by his father who is a gang member in Brooklyn. Hope, was raised by their mom here in Rosewood," Horus explains. "That's why she's much nicer. You'll see if you meet him. He left Matthews cousin in Brooklyn yesterday. That's why Walt was there yesterday. He went to get her."

A few more people start piling in and Paul and Julian show up and some of the guys go help unload the pizza. I was just trying to stay away from Drew who had been taking an interest in me. I made it pretty clear that I had no interest in her. I could tell that she was not going to give up.

Another group of girls were walking up the path. My heart stopped. My eyes focused on one girl in particular. She had caramel blonde hair with blue highlights and blue eyes. She wore a pair of black jean shorts, a red shirt, a black leather jacket, and some black boots. I hadn't seen her in ten years but, I knew that this girl was in fact Sadie Kane.
