Chapter 3
"Lost little star, wandered so far away from the light. Trying to find a place where only you will hide. Trying to find a place darker than black. Keep looking for something you won't find. You won't find the original contractor of the star BK-201...The star with two souls. Don't hold fury little star, don't turn into a black hole, destroying and devouring everything into darkness," The stargazer spoke causing everyone to stop working and look at her. This wasn't the first time she had spoken for a while but it was strange that she was talking about one star which is surrounded in mystery. They heard the warning in her words though. A collapsing star turns into a black hole, was it possible that BK-201's star is becoming a black hole causing him to react so differently?
"A contractor star...is collapsing on itself?" Misaki asked as she looked up at the stargazer.
"Lost little star, try looking in your core. Your core contains two souls...your own and the past," The stargazer said.
"Stargazer, what can we do to help?" Misaki asked.
"Lost little star find what you've lost. Find her," Stargazer said.
More than Just a Contractor – Chapter 3
Gun fire could be heard in the corridors, Hei's trench coat protected him from the bullets as he ran through the corridors. The guards weren't dropping their guard as Hei approached them. Aiming for Hei's head as that wasn't protected by the coat. Hei threw his double bladed weapon at the guards. Bullets soon destroyed the weapon before Hei activated his contractor ability and took care of the guards. The guards screamed as Hei sent an electrical current through their bodies. They soon collapsed on the ground as bullets fired into the air. There wasn't anything which was going to stop him from getting what he wanted. He didn't care how many people he killed in the Syndicate, none of them were helping him finding his sister. They just leashed Hei to the company and used him to get what they wanted.
"Sir, we can't stop BK-201!" Guards screamed down their communicators as Hei approached them. Taking care of them easily so that more guards wouldn't come was something he was after. Less blood on his hands, Black Reaper or not he didn't exactly enjoy killing innocent souls. Hei's rage was peaking again.
"Get out of my way!" Hei roared as he slammed two guards into the nearby walls, knocking them out cold. He slammed his foot into the door slamming them open.
More than Just a Contractor – Chapter 3
November 11 was scanning through the documents. All BK-201's previous cases revolved possible orders from his superiors. There weren't any issues about BK-201 snapping like a regular person would. November 11 kept searching through the files which Misaki had given him to look through. The door leading to the records was opened as Misaki walked in. Her brown eyes fell on the blond haired agent.
"Find anything yet?" She asked him, November's attention was stolen from the documents as he looked at Misaki. He shook his head.
"Nothing yet," he told her. He wasn't getting anywhere.
"It's not like we can study BK-201 without him noticing. It's hard to even track him down," Misaki sighs as she sat down at her desk.
"Isn't it your day off?" November 11 asked. She nodded.
"It is, but I'm not letting this slide past like nothing happened. I've been thinking about it for ages. If he's not a contractor and he's not human...what is he?"
"His actions point him towards a moratorium," November 11 said.
"But he's in control of his powers. Because of that, he can't be a moratorium."
"True, but he doesn't act like a regular contractor either. This only brings more questions up." November 11 froze as he read the words 'Heaven's War'. He slowly looked at Misaki.
"What?" She questioned November 11.
"BK-201 was in Heaven's War...right?"
"Yes? What's the point?"
"Is it possible that he lost something then? Something his organisation promises to return?" November 11 asked Misaki.
"What do you mean?"
"Contractors normally work for something. BK-201's the most dangerous contractor around...I feel we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg of his ability. Do you get the feeling that there's something he's hiding?" November 11 asked Misaki.
"Apart his identity, I do get there's something else he's hiding," Misaki said.
"What he's lost and now something else has turned up? That doesn't make any sense," Misaki sighed. She was getting sick of not knowing anything of BK-201, sick of the chase. Now there was something else she needed to find. Why did BK-201 have to be her enemy?
"I've noticed that BK-201 doesn't use his ability often. Often relying on his skills more instead of just shocking people to death," November 11 commented as he continued reading through notes, previous cases and just a few notes.
"That's true, the fact that he doesn't rely on his power indicates that he was trained like a regular assassin. The fact that he's got the contractor ability only means that he's become more of a threat and fear," Misaki said.
"Yes."
More than Just a Contractor – Chapter 3
Huang pulled on a rubber glove on his left hand, his stronger side when it came to dealing with Hei. Huang could hear the doors slammed open; Hei was getting closer and closer to their room and Huang was going to grab Hei and find out what's wrong. Mao wasn't happy with the fact that Hei's star went red. Anything red meant that there was a threat of danger following them. Huang was going to get some answers from Hei on what happened. He never snapped before, so why snap now? Was it the fact that it was reaching the anniversary of Bai's disappearance? The running of footsteps came closer as Huang threw his arm out, grabbed the pasting person and throwing them into the room. Huang ripped Hei out from the corridor and threw him into the room.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Huang demanded off Hei. Hei growled as grabbed Huang's hand.
"Wearing rubber gloves, are we?" Hei growled. There wasn't anything which was going to calm Hei down. Not now the dam had broken.
"You better calm down! You're not going to be able to find your sister if you don't control yourself!" Huang yelled at the contractor. Huang felt a shiver go down his spine as he saw Hei's rage peak, Hei went to throw a punch at Huang. Hei's fist collided against Huang's face sending Huang into the nearby wall.
"Hei, that's enough!" Mao scolded Hei.
"Don't you dare say that Huang! I'll find her!" Hei roared at Huang. Huang growled as he slowly walked towards Hei.
"At the moment, you can't even find yourself!" Huang yelled as he clenched his fist, he was ready to punch Hei. Hei was ready to defend himself from Huang's punch.
"I know exactly where to find myself!" Hei fought back.
"Then find it!" Huang ordered Hei.
"Yes, find it Hei." Hei heard a voice he hadn't heard in a long while. Hei froze on the spot. His contractor aura faded away, the voice washed away all his hatred and rage. That one single voice...Hei could feel darkness filling his mind. The rage and hatred was replaced by darkness. A void in Hei's mind appeared, pulling him towards the emptiness. Huang noticed that Hei's eyes became blank, like he was pulled into a memory. Huang started to calm down as Hei collapsed in front of him.
"Damn contractor...always giving me a headache," Huang grumbled as he went to pick up Hei.
"Huang, what are you going to do?" Mao asked.
"He's not a doll, we can't just re-program him. Why do you expect me to do everything?" Huang growled at Mao.
"I'm a cat, what exactly can a cat do?" Mao questioned Huang. Yin got up from her place and gently walked over to the unconscious form of Hei, doing her best to pick him up slightly to make sure that he was resting on her lap.
"Hei...please come back..." Yin whispered quietly, gently stroking Hei's face.
More than Just a Contractor – Chapter 3
"Stargazer told me something," Misaki told November 11, attracting his attention from the piles of paper work Misaki has written around BK-201.
"What did this Stargazer say?" November 11 asked, smiling slightly. He was glad that it was just himself and Misaki working on this case. April will distract him and the police department don't exactly like the fact that himself, April and July weren't humans, not like the police force.
"That it's possible that BK-201's recent actions are because his star is collapsing on itself. Becoming a black hole," Misaki told him.
"I don't think that's possible," November 11 told her.
"Stargazer hasn't been wrong in the past she'll probably be right now."
"A contractor's star...isn't a star though it's a beacon of life."
"But if it is collapsing then BK-201 is becoming a threat to everyone. He'll need to be put down as soon as possible," Misaki said as she got up from her chair ready to move out.
"Where exactly are you going to go and find him?" November 11 asked.
"I have a hunch I know his fake identity," Misaki said as she picked up her badge from the table and went to head out. November 11 placed the papers back on the desk and followed Misaki.
"What name do you think he goes by?" November 11 asked.
"Li Shengshun, a Chinese exchange student."
More than Just a Contractor – Chapter 3
Hei awoke to the scent of fire, the burning scent and burnt flesh swarmed up Li's nose causing him to cough. Hei awoke to a shower of stars falling from the sky. Hei jumped up from the ground to see Tokyo burning down, the whole city was engulfed in flames. Screaming was heard throughout all of Tokyo, Hei turned to see children running and screaming away from something. Hei wandered down the streets of Tokyo, what the hell was going on? Catching a woman running towards him, Hei took his chance.
"Excuse me, what's going on?" Hei asked, slipping into his 'Li' personality. The woman just ran straight through Hei. His eyes widened in fear as he wrapped his arms around himself just what the hell was going on? Tokyo was burning, fear and panic was present. Hei started to run, trying to find out what's causing this. Looking up at the sky, he saw his star burning blood red. "This is my fault?" Hei asked confused.
"Yes, this is your entire fault," Hei turned around to see himself, like an identical twin.
"What do you mean?" Hei asked his twin. A smile appeared on his face.
"You're the Black Reaper, looking for something you've lost. You've taken down all the contractors in Tokyo, taken down the police, taken down your so called friends. You've consumed everything, devoured the light which Tokyo city had. It was you Hei...Li Shengshun; you are the eye of the storm here." Hei's twin told him as he jabbed his finger into Hei's shoulder. Hei was pushed back slightly.
"What do you mean?" Hei asked.
"You're clueless aren't you?"
"Then you better tell me!"
"I don't think I need to say," He didn't stop smiling, Hei's rage rose before his mind clicked.
"It's...my rage...isn't it?" Hei asked. His twin nodded.
"Your rage will lead to this destruction. You can't control it though, I can't control it either. We both know that there is only one soul which knows how to tame your soul, don't you?"
"My sister...but she's gone!" Hei roared.
"You're right, she's gone. So why search for her if she's gone?"
"Because...I should have protected her," Hei said.
"Could you though? Could you have prevented it from happening? You were just a human back then, remember? You weren't what you are now."
"I still could have done something!"
"Like what?"
More than Just a Contractor – Chapter 3
"You're looking for Li?" The landlord, Misuzu asked Misaki and November 11.
"Has he come home yet?" Misaki asked her, she shook her head. She hasn't seen Li in a while, he hasn't come home. Li's disappearance seemed to raise alarm bells in Misaki's mind. Links were starting to form in her mind.
"Think he's staying over at a friend's place?" November 11 asked Misuzu.
"Li always returns home and stays in his apartment," she told the two of them.
"You wouldn't mind us having a look around his apartment?" Misaki questioned Misuzu; she shook her head and picked up the spare key to apartment 201, heading up there with both Misaki and November 11 following behind. She unlocked Li's apartment door.
"Just don't touch anything," Misuzu told the police girl and gentleman. They both nodded and headed into Li's apartment, it was bare like Li wasn't planning on staying long, and his futon was on the ground, neatly folded. November 11 looked around the apartment, he was careful not to disturb anything in the apartment. Misaki had mentioned Li before but he had never seen Li before. There was a possibility that they were connected to the same enemy that they were hunting down.
"Found any clues?" Misaki asked him, November shook his head.
"Nothing, you think in an apartment like this, we would be able to find something," November 11 sighed.
"That's true, there's nothing really here," Misaki said. She walked around the apartment for a little while before she found a lose floor board. The walls were thin but the floor needed to have some support, some support which BK-201 would find if he was stationed here. Misaki smiled before she beaconed November 11 to come over to her. He made his way over to her as she removed the floor boards. After removing them, their eyes fell on BK-201's weapons, bullet proof cloak and his spare masks.
"I think we hit the jackpot," November 11 smiled.
"Li Shengshun is BK-201...well, guess we have to track down BK-201 so we can capture him and then sentence him to death."
"I don't think that would be necessary. Sure BK-201's been doing all this but I believe he could be of use to the police, MI-6 and other companies," November 11 smiled.
"How?" Misaki asked.
"Memory wipe, when he's in a state of confusion, you'll take him," Jack told Misaki. "That way you don't have to kill Li and make use of him. If you could teach him to paralyse people instead of killing people he'll be useful to the police."
"So take advantage over BK-201?" Misaki asked.
"It wouldn't be taking advantage over BK-201, more putting BK-201 on the right path so that he doesn't have to be killed by the police," November 11 told her.
"But then wouldn't you all be after him?" Misaki asked.
"We've always been after BK-201, ever since the star faded but the re-appeared," November 11 told her. Misaki placed the floorboards back where they were before. Now their biggest problem was to try and find what happened to BK-201.
More than Just a Contractor – Chapter 3
"What do we do?" Huang asked Mao, Mao shook his head.
"If we give him back, Hei's going to be killed. We need to find out what's wrong with him and then sort him out. At the moment, he's acting like a moratorium," Mao said. Yin was gently stroking Hei's face, making sure that that he remained asleep to the best of her abilities. She knew that Hei was going through a rough patch and she needed to help him through this, just like he helped her countless times in the past. When they first met, Hei may have been acting like Li but he still helped her.
"Hei..." She whispered to him, lifting him up slightly as she pulled him into a hug. Mao and Huang watched remaining quiet. Mao smiled, Yin was a special doll and he knew it. He always noticed how Yin would ignore her orders from Huang if she felt that Hei was in trouble.
"Yin, keep Hei asleep as long as possible while we try and figure out a way to stop what's happened to him," Huang told Yin. She merely nodded. She knew that this would have probably been the order given to her.
"Huang, let's go and find out the reports which were collected when Hei was in custody," Mao told Huang. He nodded in agreement and the two of them left. Yin remained in the room she heard the lock of the door once Huang and Mao had left. Yin was by herself with the sleeping form of Hei in her arms. Yin tried her hardest to smile, resorting to using one of her fingers to help push her mouth to form the smile. She wasn't sure how to feel with just being in the same room as Hei on her own. It was clear that she could see the brother sister relationship between herself and Hei but was Hei feeling that or was he feeling what people call love? Was that why he did his hardest to protect her when she was walking into trouble? Was it just because he was replacing his real sister with her? He wouldn't...would he?
More than Just a Contractor – Chapter 3
"You couldn't do anything, could you?" Hei's twin smirked at him. Hei desperately tried to keep his rage down, if that was causing all this then he was going to try and stop it from happening. "There's no use trying to change this. Unless your rage gets put back under control, this is going to happen. Rage that's been building for years, rage at yourself."
"What do you mean?" Hei growled.
"Haven't you realised why you can't control it? Why only your sister can quell the monster known as rage?" Hei's twin asked.
