Jace POV:

"Come on then, I'll show you our room." I said as I walked past Clarissa. I led her up the stairs to the floor my-I mean our-room was on. When I opened the door my first thought was how dirty it was. I showed her the bed and the bathroom and her wardrobe/dressing area. "I'll leave you to settle in. Oh, I don't know if they told you but there's a welcoming party thing later." Then I left the room, closing the door behind me.

Clary POV:

This room was so clean! It looked like nobody lived here. I hoped Jace could adjust to a messy roommate. Thankfully my possessions and clothes had already been brought up here so I put everything away, making sure the photo of my mum and stepdad took pride of place on the bedside table, next to my current sketchbook. We had already been told about the party, which I was grateful for because Jace had given me no information about it. I had two hours until we were all meant to meet downstairs for it. That gave me twenty minutes to snoop, twenty minutes to shower and an hour to get ready, give or take a few minutes. I looked around in Jace's wardrobe, even though I knew I should respect his privacy. Still, he wasn't going to tell me anything about himself.
The only problem was, there were no clues in this room. His clothes were extremely lacking in variety: white t-shirts, black t-shirts and black jeans. There was one grey sweater but that was all I could find. His bedside table appeared to be the same. On the top I could see only a bottle of water. However, when I opened the drawer, I found a notebook; a journal probably. I shouldn't read it. I needed to distract myself so I wouldn't be tempted. I went in the bathroom to turn the shower on and pressed play on my music.

Jace POV:

When I got back downstairs, I could see my mother waiting, probably to tell me off or criticise me for something. I couldn't be arsed right now so I headed to the training room instead. I felt like punching something. I got the punch bag until my knuckles were raw and the bag was nearly broken. I'd left Clarissa for half an hour now, I could go back-it was my room too. As I left the training room, I passed a group of shadowhunters from other locations, it looked like they were exploring our institute.
I headed to my room and was surprised to hear music when Clary was nowhere to be seen. I went to my wardrobe and grabbed a white top to replace my black one. I pulled my top off and was about to put the other one on when I heard Clarissa's voice "Jace, are you there? Where do you keep the towels?" Figuring she would be my wife soon enough, I decided it didn't matter if I saw her without any clothes on so I opened the bathroom door and reached for the towel cupboard. "Jace!" She sounded somewhere between shocked and pissed. I threw the towel in her direction, taking her body in as I did it. "Get out!" Now I couldn't tell whether she was mad or upset or what. I turned around and left the bathroom. I picked up the T-shirt I had taken off and folded it up neatly to go back in my wardrobe. I sat on my the bed and waited for Clarissa to come out, I needed some stuff that was in the bathroom.

Clary POV:

I couldn't believe that Jace had just come in the bathroom, probably fully aware that I was naked. I was angry and upset and offended. I didn't really know how I felt to be honest. Particularly when he eyed my body, not even trying to be subtle. Although, I did notice his muscly stomach. He was definitely attractive, if nothing else. I wrapped the towel around myself and stepped out of the bathroom. Jace looked up and caught my eye but turned back to his magazine. I coughed loudly. "Um, can you leave so I can get dressed?" He smirked. "You are aware I literally just saw you naked, right?"
"Yes and I'd rather it didn't happen again." I snapped.
He got up and walked to me. He put his hands on my hips, and I could feel their warmth through the towel. "Clarissa, when we're married are you going to be this shy? Besides you saw me without a shirt so we're basically even."
I rolled my eyes. "In no way is that the same and you know it. Now, if you won't leave, can you at least turn around?" He did as I asked, albeit with a sigh, and I picked my outfit: a crimson minidress and some black high heeled ankle boots. "Do not turn until I say." I dressed myself as quickly as possible. "Was that so hard?"
"Most definitely." He grinned. "We have an hour till the party-what do you want to do?"
I have to do my hair and makeup. So I guess that. Also, Clary."
"What?"
"Call me Clary, I hate Clarissa."

Jace POV:

My god. When Clary was getting dressed, I sneaked another look at her and her body was perfect. But then I had to wait for her to do her hair and makeup, which I really didn't think she needed. It's weird, she seemed to have gotten prettier since she first arrived. I had yet to see her smile though; that would be my aim for tonight; get Clary to laugh or smile. I sat up "How much longer? We're going to be late."
"No we won't. We have twenty minutes! But give me two minutes and I'll be done."
I lay back down on the bed. "Aren't you doing something about your hair?"
I immediately grew defensive. "What's wrong with my hair?"
Clary caught my eye through the mirror. "It's just a bit... Come here, I'll tidy it up for you." I sighed but moved towards her. I sat on the edge of the bed and she stood in front of me. The feeling of her hands in my hair was surprisingly nice.

"There. All done and much better." She half smiled, pleased with herself.
"Great, now can we go?"
She sighed "Fine, show me the way."
