Revelations

"Well, well," said Sirius his voice suddenly cold, "If it isn't the Ripper."

"Well, well," mocked Giles, "If it isn't the stupid Marauders."

Buffy froze. This couldn't be happening to her, this wasn't possible. Her gut instinct told her that she was light-years away from home maybe in a different realm or dimension, but there was no where that a younger Giles fit into the picture unless-

"What time is it?" asked Buffy suddenly.

"Nearly noon." Replied James. "Why do you ask?"

"No. I mean like what month, what year?" said Buffy.

James and Sirius regarded her strangely and Buffy heard Giles mutter, "Somebody obviously forget their brains at home today."

Buffy was flabbergasted; she never thought Giles could be so rude. This isn't your Giles, she reminded herself, it's Ripper, the evil demon worshipping Giles. Somehow the thought wasn't very comforting. She was brought out of her thoughts by Sirius's voice.

"I'm sorry what did you say?" she asked.

"I said it's November." He repeated.

"What?" said Buffy a feeling of dread washing over her, "November but, but that can't be."

"Why can't it be?" asked James.

"Cos it was just the end of June about an hour ago, I doubt that four months can pass by in less than an hour, that is-

"Wait a minute," she interrupted herself, "what year is it?"

"Umm, how hard did you hit your head when you fell?" asked James. "Cos it was November about an hour ago not June and everybody knows that it's 1978."

"You're kidding." Buffy whispered.

"Why would he be?" replied Sirius.

"So it's really 1978?" said Buffy staring at Sirius trying to determine if he was lying or not. He nodded solemnly.

"Oh, crap." Said Buffy as she buried her face into her hands, "This can not be happening to me. I'm gonna kill you, Giles."

"Me?!" exclaimed the younger Giles look alike. "What did I do?"

"This is entirely your fault." Said Buffy staring at him angrily. "If you hadn't told Willow to tell me to come over today, I wouldn't be in this situation right now!"

"But I don't even know you!" he sputtered. "And who's Willow?"

Buffy took a deep breath; she had to get a grip on herself. If she had survived being turned into an 18th century maiden and being sent to hell, she could survive a little time mix up.

"Thank you Mr. Giles," Dumbledore said, "You can go now."

Giles sent Buffy a very confused look and left the room. It was clear that he thought she was crazy.

Dumbledore turned to Buffy. "Ms.-?"

"Buffy." Said Buffy replying to the unasked question. "My name is Buffy Summers."

"Buffy? That's an unusual name," said Sirius.

"Yeah, I'm very sure that I'm the only Buffy in the world." She said humorlessly.

"Mr. Black, Mr. Potter," said Dumbledore, "I think it would be better for you two to go."

James and Sirius began to protest, but Dumbledore just held up his hand for silence, when they had quieted down he said, "I have some things to discuss with Ms. Summers, but I don't think she'd be comfortable if you were here."

"Oh, I don't mind." Said Buffy only half listening.

"See? It's ok with her." Sirius grinned.

Dumbledore sighed, "very well you can stay. Now Ms. Summers, can please tell me exactly what happened to you today from the time you woke up till the time you got here?"

"Ok, the phone woke me up, it turned out to be my best friend Willow asking me to go with her to a friend's house- that would be Giles- to look at this book that he had. It was a spell book. I went over there late, Willow told me that they had already done the spell. She started to clean up I was walking towards the couch to sit down then all of the sudden I was sucked into this black hole thingamajig and poof. I came here." Said Buffy.

"So what you're saying is that you're here because of a spell?" said Sirius.

"I thought it was some kind of portal." Said Buffy thoughtfully.

"I agree," said Dumbledore, "do you by any chance know the name of that book?"

"It wasn't in English I know that." Said Buffy, thinking hard, "What was it? Oh yeah, Libellus ada Priudis."

Dumbledore's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Are you sure?"

"Pretty sure." Said Buffy.

"Unbelievable." Said Dumbledore.

"What's unbelievable?" asked Buffy, confused.

"That book." He answered.

"You've heard of it?" asked Buffy.

"Of course I have. It is - it was, one of the most famous books of the 16th century. " Answered Dumbledore.

" The book is that old? No wonder it looked like it was falling apart." Said Buffy.

" You saw it?" asked Sirius.

" For about a second." Said Buffy. " But why is it so famous anyway?"

" Do you know what Libellus ada Priudis means?" Asked Dumbledore. Buffy shook her head. " It's Latin for Book of Portals. It's the only spell book ever written on portals. It allows you to travel to anyplace you want, any time you want."

" Wiggy." Said Buffy. "So that means that I really traveled back in time."

Dumbledore nodded.

"That's a relief," said Buffy wiping her brow, " I thought it would be something more major than that. Now all we have to do is get that book, do a spell that'll send me back into my time and I'm outta here."

" I'm afraid not." Said Dumbledore sadly.

" What? Why?" asked Buffy.

" One of the reasons the book is so famous is that it's been missing for the past century or so." Answered Dumbledore.

Buffy felt her heart sinking. " You mean I'm stuck here? Forever?"

" Unless the book is found but I highly doubt that." Said Dumbledore.

"Didn't you say Giles was the one who had the book in your time?" James asked. "Maybe he has it now too."

"You're right but even if he doesn't I'm sure the book is here somewhere." Said Buffy, "You need the book to do the spell, right?"

"Yes," said Dumbledore cautiously. He didn't want to give the girl false hope.

"Well, I'm guessing that Giles knew that too. So he must have known that the book would be here so he could reverse the spell or else he wouldn't have tried to come." Explained Buffy.

Up till then Sirius had been sitting quietly listening to Buffy's tale but when she mentioned Giles, Sirius spoke up. "Just to make sure, where on the same page, is this the same Giles that was just in here?"

"Yeah," said Buffy heaving a sigh, "But when he grows up."

"Really?" said James, "What's he like? Does he still act like a prat?"

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you." Said Buffy honestly.

"I daresay this is a very amusing conversation but we have bigger problems." Said Dumbledore, "Ms. Summers-

"Just Buffy, please." She said.

"Buffy it is." Said Dumbledore, " If you really think that the book is here-"

"I do." Said Buffy firmly.

"Then we shall find it but in the meantime what do you say you become a student at Hogwarts?" he offered.

Buffy wrinkled her nose. " Go back to school? I rather not." She said.

" Buffy, this isn't a normal school. You won't be taught muggle subjects like Math and English. " Said James.

Buffy raised an eyebrow, " then what will I learn?" she said.

" How to do magic, how to change objects from one thing to another, how to protect yourself using magic, things like that." Said Sirius.

"Oh, what the hell," said Buffy with a shrug, " fine I'll do it."

" I'm glad to hear that." Said Dumbledore, " I suppose you'd be a 6th year."

" A 6th year?" repeated Buffy. " What's that?"

" Well, in Hogwarts we go by years. Like a level of education. Children usually start going to Hogwarts when they're eleven, they are called first years, the grade after that are second years and so on." Said Dumbledore.

" Right, umm so in order for me to be a 6th year I should be sixteen." Said Buffy.

" Or you could be seventeen." Said Sirius hopefully.

" Excuse me," said Buffy giving them all her death glare. " FYI, I'm eighteen."

Buffy could practically hear the jaws dropping open. She had always looked about two years younger than her real age so she was pretty used to this reaction, but she enjoyed it every single time, Buffy smirked. " What you guys thought I was sixteen?"

" Or fifteen," muttered James.

"Oh, shut up." Said Buffy.

"Since you're eighteen, then you'd have to be a 7th year, isn't that right professor?" said Sirius.

Dumbledore nodded. "It will be hard for you because it's the last year but I'm sure that the other professors will be able to tutor you and help you in anything you need."

"But I have no place to stay." Said Buffy downcast.

"You'll stay at the school like all the other students, of course." Said Dumbledore.

"The school's a boarding school?" she asked.

Dumbledore nodded.

"And let me guess what you guys are wearing are the uniforms." Said Buffy wrinkling her nose.

"Unfortunately." Said Sirius with a grimace.

"Does the tie have to be maroon? Cos maroon is so not my color." Said Buffy.

"It depends on what house your in.," answered James.

"A house is like a dorm. The school has four houses and you'll be sorted into one of them. After you're sorted you'll live with them. You'll only eat, have classes and befriend people from the same house." Sirius added when he saw Buffy's confused face.

"Now Mr. Black that's not true." Admonished Dumbledore.

"Yes it is." Insisted Sirius. "Especially the befriending part."

"That's stupid." Buffy commented.

"Maybe." Said James with a shrug, "But that's the way it is and has been practically forever."

"How long is forever?" asked Buffy curiously.

" I mean ever since the school was founded." He explained.

" Which was-" asked Buffy.

" A very long time ago." Said Dumbledore. "It was founded by four friends Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff. The houses are named after them. They had a dispute about what kind of students to admit into the school and since they couldn't decide, they agreed that they would each have there own houses and admit whoever they'd like. For a while that worked out fine, until one day Salazar and Godric had a serious argument. They wanted Helga and Rowena to take sides but the refused so Godric and Salazar got mad at them too. In the end Salazar left the school."

"Interesting," commented Buffy, " but there's one thing I don't get, if the founders were the ones who chose the students and they lived a very long time ago how do the students get chosen now?"

"You catch on quick," said Dumbledore with a smile and a twinkle in his eye, "The founders all valued different qualities in their students so this was a big problem for them, until Rowena came up with the brilliant idea for a Sorting Hat. Each of them put a little of themselves into a Hat and made it talk. Whenever somebody would put on the Hat, it would decide which founder they were most like and that's how you get sorted."

"Uh hu," said Buffy skeptically, "A talking hat. I'll believe it when I see it."

"That would be now." Replied Dumbledore, "If you'll come with me to my office, I'll get you sorted and we'll discuss whatever we haven't discussed yet."

"Okay." Said Buffy getting out of bed when she was stopped by a shrill voice.

" WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"

" Uh oh," said James, " Pomfrey's back."

Madame Pomfrey who had left a while ago for a lunch break marched over to Buffy's bedside.

"Getting out of bed?" said Buffy.

"No you are not, young lady," Said Madame Pomfrey, "Wherever did you learn to fall fifty feet from the sky, hit your head in addition to an already broken rib and a very deep cut and get out of bed less than twenty four hours later?"

"It takes a lot of practice." Said Buffy truthfully. "And besides I feel fine."

"Well, I'm the nurse and I say you are not fine and you require at least a week of bed rest." Said Madame Pomfrey.

"A whole week?" said Buffy with a frown.

Madame Pomfrey nodded.

"Nah," said Buffy decidedly, jumping out of bed, "I'll get restless."

"Headmaster!" said Madame Pomfrey, "Do something!"

"If she says she's fine, then she's fine, Poppy. You can't keep her here against her will." He answered. "Now if you don't mind, may we use your fire?"

"Oh, alright." She said reluctantly.

Buffy followed Dumbledore over to the giant stone hearth that was opposite to the beds. "What's with the fire?"

"We're going to go to my office using floo powder. I'd go the normal way but since it's after lunchtime the halls are extra crowded." Said Dumbledore.

"Okay, again what's that gotta do with the fire and what's floo powder?" said Buffy.

"This is floo powder," said Dumbledore taking a small hand sack out of his robe and spilling its contents to the other hand. Buffy saw that it was a green powder.

"You throw it into the fireplace and step into it while saying the name of your destination. It'll take you there."

"Get out here!" said Buffy with disbelief, "Traveling through a fireplace? Not possible."

"Yes it is." Said Sirius, "Can I show her, professor?"

"Sorry boys I think it's time you left us alone." Said Dumbledore, "And don't even think about protesting. I let you skip Divination, Potions, and Lunch. There is no way you're missing another class, and unless I'm mistaken you have quiz in Charms, which is your next class."

"Darn." Said James, "I was hoping you didn't know about that."

"There's nothing that happens in this castle that I don't know about." Said Dumbledore cheerfully. "Now back to class boys."

Buffy had to laugh at the downtrodden expressions on their faces. " It was nice meeting you guys." She said.

" Nice meeting you too, Buffy." Said Sirius.

" We'll see you later." Said James.

" Not if I see you first." Said Buffy with a wink.

James laughed and left the room. Sirius followed him but turned around when he was at the door. "I - I hope you get into Gryffindor." He said.

"Your house?" guessed Buffy.

Sirius nodded. " And James's. Better than Slytherin, they're all a bunch of prejudiced arrogant fools who think they're better than everybody else because most of them are filthy rich."

"What about the other two houses?" asked Buffy.

"Hufflepuff's ok, but Ravenclaw's are a bit stuck up. If you're in Ravenclaw you're supposedly very smart so they let that get to their head."

"Well in that case, I hope I get into Gryffindor." Said Buffy. "Wish me luck."

Sirius nodded and gave her a lady-killer grin and left the room. Buffy sighed, if there was anything good about being temporarily stuck in a different time it was being around a guy as cute as Sirius Black.

"Are you ready to go?" asked Dumbledore.

"Yeah, but do you mind if I go first?" she asked.

"I was just going to suggest that." Said Dumbledore. "Here, take this powder, throw it into the fireplace, step inside and say in a loud clear voice Dumbledore's office."

Buffy swallowed her nervousness and stepped up to the fireplace. She threw the powder that was in her hand into the hearth. The fire suddenly turned emerald green.

"Here goes nothing," she said as she went in, "DUMBLEDORE'S OFFICE!"

Buffy had half expected to get burned when she stepped inside but surprisingly the fire was cool. She heard a roaring in her ears as she went spinning and spinning down the fireplace. She reflexively closed her eyes as the green flames and the spinning combined and together started to give her a queasy feeling in her stomach. She opened her eyes catching vague glimpses of different rooms beyond the fireplace. She just had started to get use to the spinning when it stopped suddenly and she stumbled out into a different room.

It was a large and beautiful circular room, full of funny little noises. A number of curious silver instruments stood on spindle legged tables, whirring and emitting little puffs of smoke. The walls were covered with portraits of people who were moving.

"Moving?" gasped Buffy.

"Yes, moving. In the wizarding world, the people in pictures can move and people in portraits can talk." Said Dumbledore coming behind her.

Buffy shook her head, "This has got to be the weirdest thing I've ever seen and believe me I've seen some pretty weird things in life."

"I believe you." Said Dumbledore simply. He walked over to a claw-footed desk and reached for the shelf behind it and picked up an old, shabby, tattered hat.

"Let me guess. That's the Sorting Hat." Said Buffy.

Dumbledore nodded in conformation. "Sit down and put it on." He said giving it to her.

Buffy did as she was told and immediately heard a little voice in her ear.

My, my, my, what do we have here? A witch, perhaps? No not a witch. A slayer.

Buffy nearly fell off her seat. She couldn't believe that the Hat had figured out who she was and so quickly.

What's so hard to believe about that? You must know that I am no ordinary hat.

The hat could read her thoughts! How much the creepy was that?

Not really if you live in the wizarding world, which you will soon find out. Now where to put you? You have much power, I'm sure you'd do well in Slytherin.

Buffy's heart nearly stopped. She didn't want to be in Slytherin.

Why not? You fit the description well. Being a slayer makes you ruthless and cunning the two qualities Salazar favored in his students. But what would he say if I put a mudblood in his house? No, no I'm afraid Slytherin is out of the question.

Buffy was nearly giddy with relief. She didn't know what a mudblood was but she didn't care; all she knew was that she was very glad that she wasn't in Slytherin.

Well, now that Slytherin is out of the running, we have only three houses left, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Gryffindor. Oh, what's this? I see a bit of Rowena in you. Could it be? Ah, that might work out. Yes, I do think we have a winner.

Ravenclaw? Thought Buffy, why can't I just be Gryffindor?

Gryffindor? I never even thought about that, courage and bravery, the virtues Godric was famous for. Well you certainly are courageous but I don't think Gryffindor suits you. No, you have some dark roots. I stand by my original decision you should be in Ravenclaw.

But I don't want to be in Ravenclaw, I want to be in Gryffindor.

Are you sure? You could do wonderful things in Ravenclaw and if Rowena was here I'm sure she'd agree. Well if you really think so then you better be "GRYFFINDOR!"

Buffy let out her breath, she hadn't realized she'd been holding it in. she took off the hat and gave it to Dumbledore. "I'm in Gryffindor," she said happily.

"Congratulations." He said.

"The Hat wanted to put me in Ravenclaw but I wanted to be in Gryffindor." she babbled.

"I know I heard you." Said Dumbledore.

But Buffy was still talking. "And I was really afraid that- you what?"

"I heard you." Said Dumbledore calmly, looking through a book on his desk.

"I didn't know I was talking out loud." Said Buffy embarrassed.

"That's normal." Said Dumbledore finally looking up. " Now that you've been sorted we need to get you a couple of things."

"Like what?" asked Buffy.

"A wand for starters, you're uniform, of course, and a long, long list of supplies." Replied Dumbledore.

"Shouldn't we have done that before I got sorted?" asked Buffy.

" We should have." Agreed Dumbledore, " but I wanted to make sure that you were a witch before I did anything else."

The words of the hat came back to Buffy. " But I'm not a witch." She said.

"Well, technically you're not. But you do have some magic in you since you were able to hear the Hat and that will be enough for you to go on." Said Dumbledore.

"I guess," said Buffy doubtfully.

"Now where were we? Ah, yes the wand." Said Dumbledore as he started rummaging through his drawers. " Usually students go to Ollivander's for their wands but I have a few I'd like you to try out." He pulled out three wands.

" What? You want me to pick out one of them?" asked Buffy.

Dumbledore shook his head, "It's the wand that chooses the wizard or in your case witch. Pick them up and tell me if you feel anything."

"What exactly should I feel?" asked Buffy.

"It's hard to explain but you'll know when you feel it." Said Dumbledore.

Buffy sighed and glanced at the three wands. The one on the end caught her eye. It was deep red with fine hair-like writing in gold at the top. She leaned over to pick it up and saw Dumbledore smile secretly out the corner of her eye.

The minute it was in her hand she felt warmth burst through her fingertips and some silvery hue burst out of the tip of the wand.

"Just as I expected." Murmured Dumbledore. If Buffy was not the Slayer and didn't have super sensitive hearing she wouldn't have heard him but since she was the Slayer, she did hear him.

"Why did you expect that?" she asked curiously.

"The Sorting Hat was right in wanting to put you in Ravenclaw." Said Dumbledore, ignoring her question.

"Why?" she asked.

"Because that wand you hold in your hands belonged to Rowena Ravenclaw. It is almost impossible for the same wand to choose two different people; some wands don't even work for anybody other than the one they chose. This just shows how much you're like Rowena." Said Dumbledore.

"The Sorting Hat said the same thing." Said Buffy frustrated, "but what I don't get is why I'm like her? Sirius said that she was famous for being smart, I'm just lucky that I passed high school."

"There was something else about Rowena that most people didn't know and it's in that something that you and she are alike." Said Dumbledore.

"I don't understand." Said Buffy.

"You see, Buffy." Said Dumbledore gazing at her intently, " Rowena, like you, was a Slayer."

XxXxXxXxXxX

What a wonderful ending! Don't you guys just hate me?

Before I go I just want to say that I'm guessing that you guys were expecting some Giles a.k.a Ripper / Buffy interaction. Sorry bout that, but the sole point of his appearing in this chap, was to introduce him and for Dumbledore to confirm his suspicions. Hopefully, we will see more of him in the coming chapters. Please Review.
