After Lily had discussed all the details with Len, they deemed it time to eat breakfast. It was nearly ten and if they wanted it, they had to do it right then. Of course, that pushed lunch back to three in the afternoon. Oh well. They were kind of used to late and missed meals. Len's image consultant, well...When she says he is on a diet, he is not eating for at least two days. For some reason, even though he is a young, growing boy, she thinks that if he is not under the average weight for boys his age, that he has failed to keep his body in good shape. Typically he never ate breakfast and usually skipped lunch, but Yukari had been going easy on him for about a week now thanks to that fainting incident. He was allowed to eat about 250 more calories than before, which doesn't sound like much, but his diet has less calories on it than the most extreme diets you can find.
Lily was afraid that if she used the stove the bus would hit a bump and she would burn herself, so she settled for a bagel for herself and an apple for Len. (His diet consisted of *ABSOLUTELY NO BREAD*) She made a cup of coffee for her and a cup of apple tea for Len. The only two flavors they had were apple and raspberry, but Len hated raspberry with a burning passion, so Lily and their bus driver would often get together and drink the raspberry tea and converse about all the stressful things in their lives, mostly because Lily didn't believe in bars and the bus driver could scarcely get to one. The bartender couldn't solve their problems by responding to rants with uninterested comments and then kick them out for starting a fight or getting too drunk. (Where is this going...?)
Despite the fact that Len would throw up now, he was ravenous. He hadn't partaken in dinner, and it was a late breakfast. He couldn't even remember if he had eaten at all the day before.
He ate his apple quickly and gingerly sipped his tea. He regretted eating now. His body was making him suffer for it.
Without trying to look conspicuous, Len got up from the table and casually made his way over to the couch, which was closer to the bathroom. Lily didn't notice whatever he was doing and just stared into her black coffee. She wished she didn't have to drink it black, but she didn't have sugar to put in it. She needed the energy though, so she couldn't just wait for them to make a stop so she could buy some.
Lily gulped it down despite it burning her throat and numbing her tongue. She quickly took a shot of milk to help cool her throat.
Lily wasn't exactly pleased with the circumstances of her life at that moment. Sure, her son was going on tour with the most famous diva in Japan, but she hated to have to travel all across the entire world to do it. Len would never survive the trip to America. She knew he wouldn't, because in order to do that he had to be on a plane. For some reason Len and planes didn't mix. It was like vinegar and baking soda. Bad combination.
A sudden motion caught her attention. Lily turned to see if something fell, ready to catch it. No, nothing had fallen. She hoped he hadn't. No no, nothing fell. Len had bolted into the bathroom. Lily sighed and stood up. He was going to need her.
While Len was busy in the bathroom, Lily began turning the couch into a comfortable bed for her sick teen. She placed a thin fleece blanket on the couch for him to lay on and a thick comforter to keep him warm. She grabbed one of her pillows to put on the arm rest for him to lay his head on.
Len emerged from the bathroom wiping his nose and mouth with his sleeve. Lily gaged at this action and handed him a tissue, which he gladly accepted. When he was done with it he threw it away and squeezed his mom tight. He was hurting badly and just wanted a hug.
Lily led him over to the couch in which he proceeded to collapse on. Lily gave him all the medicine as well as a glass of water.
Len became drowsy very quickly with all the pills. Lily may have overdosed a little, but the effects of that couldn't be all that bad, right?
Once he was asleep, she went back up to the front of the bus to talk with the driver. She wanted his opinion on the whole matter. As she sat down next to him, she contemplated whether or not she really wanted to talk. Perhaps she should just finish all that paperwork she was handed three days ago and be done with it. Her boss, well, not exactly her boss, but someone who was very good at taking charge of other people told her that the papers needed to be completed in a week, no less. Lily sighed at the thought of this, catching the attention of the driver.
"Something wrong?" he asked her. She looked at him with weary eyes, smiled and spoke softly. "Just tired is all." He nodded to her and shifted his attention back to the road. Lily watched his eyes. They hardly blinked. She just couldn't understand how he did it. He drives all day and night without a rest, sometimes not even a meal if he didn't have one set aside the night before. How could he keep going, totally unfazed?
The driver caught her staring. "You need something, Miss?" Lily blinked and realized her mistake. She bowed slightly, apologising.
Lily sat in her seat for a few seconds, then decided to move so that things would not become awkward, or more so, that is. She placed her hand on the back of the leather upholstery to prevent herself from falling down when the bus swerved slightly from changing lanes.
Lying in her bed, she wondered how she would do it all. Maybe some miracle could come along and all the work would just vanish. She chuckled lightly at her own joke. Right. There's no such thing as miracles. If you want something done, you work for it. You earn your pay and you earn your life. Nothing comes easy. Len becoming famous, that was...no, not luck...He was talented. He never had to try to sound good. He just did. If only life was like that. So easy.
But if life was that easy…
What's the point in trying?
