THE CHOICE : RETOLD
Chapter Two
THE CHOICE
(Original Version)
"Hm….Yes, marvelous" Byakuran's words echoed around the whole place. "Over five million Fiamma Volts…you pass" the huge projection of their enemy is smiling at them as if they had been friends. But, that's a complete nonsense, right?
"Then, let's get down on starting the choice…" Byakuran said. Tsuna nodded. His eyes gazing at the huge figurehead of his enemy - the one he wanted to defeat. His animal, Natsu growled.
"The first choice will be the selection of the battlefield…" after speaking, cards appeared at the corner of his face rolling out and flying around Tsuna. He was asked to choose one of the cards that are circling around him. The card that he chooses will determine the field they would have to fight.
"The battle card is lightning….."
"We couldn't do that, Hibari-chan! This is a battle of Choice, we have to proceed with the next choice…" Byakuran said, with a smile that never left his face. He brought out a golden roulette with an orange flame burning at the top of it.
"W-what is that?!" Tsuna exclaimed. Shouichi's eyes widened. He recognized that thing. "It's a gyroroulette…" he stated. "I'll make it easier for everyone to see…" Byakuran said as he walked towards Tsuna's group.
He stopped at the middle and in an instant, the roulette glowed. Out of it came two projections of an odd-looking board.
"What's with the list of these symbols?!" Gokudera exclaimed as he stared at the projections. True to his statement, there were a couple of symbols projected at the left side column of the two-columned table. "This one is Millefiore, this one is Vongola…" Tsuna said as he recognized the emblems at the top of the projections. "These represents are individual elements?" he continued, still unsure of his thoughts.
Byakuran held up his right hand, the sky ring could be seen in lying in his middle finger. "Place the hand with your ring on the side with gears, Tsunayoshi-kun…" Byakuran addressed the Vongola boss with his full name.
"Eh?"
"Here, like this…" Byakuran placed his right palm at the gyroroulette. Tsuna's eyes narrowed with determination. He then slowly made his way towards the gyroroulette. "L-like this?" Tsuna asked as he mimic Byakuran's action.
As the two bosses of opposing family stood face-to-face with each other, the atmosphere became tensed. "Spin the gears once I said Choice…" Byakuran instructed. "H-huh?! W-wait-" Tsuna's short complains was interrupted when…
"Choice" immediately Byakuran pushed the gears of the gyroroulette. The roulette instantly rolled out. Digits, numbers, passed each of the boxes. After a few seconds, Tsuna's eyes widened as he saw numbers appearing at each box in the gyroroulette. "Hmm….they're stopping?" Byakuran said.
As the gyroroulette made its full stop, Byakuran smiled. "It's decided then…"
Vongola Millefiore
Sky 1 0
Storm 0 1
Rain 1 1
Sun 0 1
Lightning 0 0
Cloud 1 1
Mist 2 0
Null Element 2 0
The numbers that appeared at the gyroroulette were instantly projected at the tables floating above ground. "The participants in the battle"
"What are these? There are a bunch of numbers lined up…?" Tsuna asked to no one in particular. "Next to the symbols…I got it! The numbers says how many participants are allowed in the battle…" Shouichi concluded.
"Hmm…You sure are a quick one, Sho-chan" Byakuran praised his old-friend.
"That's right. The gyroroulette determined the number of combatants from each element in the battlefield…" Byakuran explained. "But the total number is different between Vongola and Millefiore!" Tsuna said as he stared at the projections.
"That's the fun part about Choice…" Byakuran said, amused by the Vongola Jyuudaime's reaction. Vongola will be sending one each from Sky, Rain, and Cloud….and two for Mist…" Tsuna and the other gasp as they heard the number for their mist.
They all looked at Chrome. Chrome shivered upon their stares. "B-but…we only have one mist!" Tsuna exclaimed. The thought was unnerving. Byakuran smile widened. 'Oh no...he's planning something bad!' Tsuna thought. "I don't think so, Tsunayoshi-kun…" Byakuran said, his smile widening.
"You use, there's an unexpected visit…" as soon as he finished those words, dark violet smoke appeared beside Chrome. Their eyes widened, because…
There, stood in proud and glory, their missing guardian – Mukuro Dokuro.
"Oho! So, he's still alive…hmmm?" Kikyo said, as he stared at the new comer. "Ah! It's the spy!" Bluebell exclaimed. "So, care to join us? Mukuro-chan?" Byakuran said. Somehow, he's voice sounded delighted. "Would you mind?" Mukuro asked back.
'Crap, they are talking as if they aren't here to kill each other off…' Gokudera thought.
"Hmm…what's with your cloud? Tsunayoshi-kun?"
Almost out of instinct, Hibari attacked Mukuro with his weapon. But was immediately blocked by Chrome's trident. "Hibari-san…Please…" Chrome begged.
"Yo! Kyoya!" out of the corner of their tent base, Dino appeared, riding his box-animal. Hibari's anger was immediately directed to his so-called mentor. "Ah...missed you too!" Dino sarcastically replied as he dodged an attack from the cloud guardian.
"I wouldn't waste your energy if I were you, Kyoya…" Reborn's statement made Hibari stopped his attack. "Akanbu?" His glare then shifted to Reborn. But, unlike others, Reborn didn't even flinched when he received his glare. He was Reborn after all – the greatest hitman in the world.
"You are to participate in this battle remember? It wouldn't be fun if you're not fully energized when engaged in a battle, right?" Reborn asked, grinning at the man. 'And with him teaming up with Mukuro…' his smirk widened.
"Oi! Byakuran! What does this box represent!" Ryohei yelled at the top of his lungs. Tsuna sweat drop at his loud voice. "Oh, those…it means Null Element. They are people who do not have any rings…"
Tsuna's eyes widened. "Then that means, Haru and Kyoko and the others will have to participate?!" No, he couldn't risk their lives too.
"So, that's what he means by bringing everyone" Reborn grimaced at the thought. 'They are defenseless against their attack…' he thought.
"So…who will it be, Tsunayoshi-kun?" Byakuran taunted. Tsuna gulped, he couldn't risked their lives. "It would be us!" Shouichi said, pointing at himself then to Spanner. "W-what?!"
"It will be okay, Tsuna-san. We build this one, after all…" he explained pointing at the huge tent standing tall behind them. "We are allowed to use it after all…" Tsuna smile to show his appreciation, but he's still against involving them here.
"It's okay, Tsuna-san. Besides the gyroroulette gave us a favorable result. And to top it all, Byakuran-san can't participate…" Shouichi reasoned out.
"So, what's your line up, then? Vongola Jyuudaime?" Mukuro asked, like Byakuran, he's greatly amused with this battle and had taken a liking with this game. 'Perhaps I'll asked Vongola to a game later on' he thought.
Tsuna nodded. "I've decided then. Yamamoto, Hibari, Mukuro, Chrome, Shouchi, Spanner, and I are the ones who will participate…" Byakuran smirked.
"For our side, Zakuro, Bluebell, Kikyo and Daisy are the ones who'll participate…" Byakuran said.
"Well then, we're finally getting to the rules of victory. I went with the simplest and quickest Choice rule set. The Target Rule…"
Tsuna was taken aback. "T-target rules?"
"A very simple rule. Both sides select one person to become the enemy's target. When a target is defeated, that side loses…" Shouichi explained. "I see. So we're picking a captain? The target is equivalent of a king in chess…." Reborn concluded. "I should mention that the target is already selected by the roulette…" Tsuna's eyes widened. "E-eh?"
"Certain marks are illuminated at the roulette board, right? For Millefiore, it's Sun….and for Vongola, it's the Sky…"
As if on cue, the gyroroulette shoots out a light from its sides and fired it at the right side of each spoken player. Tsuna's eyes widened as he saw a target mark on his right shoulder.
"The Millefiore's target would be Daisy…while the Vongola's target would be Tsunayoshi-kun…"
