Hey guys! Sorry It took so long to post this chapter! I hope it was worth the wait. I just wanted to give a quick shout out to EspeonPiplup! She helped me work out some scenes for the next chapter, and inspired me to write this story! So without further delay, her is Chapter 3!
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN POKEMON! I HONLY OWN HUMAN CHARACTERS UNLESS OTHERWISEINDICATED!
It was a bright summer's day, about a week after Mackenzie and Lorelai had met. They walked along the dirt path, on their way to Tarc city, for Lorelai's gym battle.
"Why don't we stop here for a break?" Lorelai asked her traveling companion. She had only met Mackenzie about a week ago, but they were already close friends. They seemed to balance each other out. Since Mackenzie was more cautious, while Lorelai was a more adventurous soul, they helped each other out. Lorelai made sure that Mackenzie didn't spend her life hiding inside a hole calculating risks, and Mackenzie made sure that Lorelai didn't do anything too dangerous, like jumping off a cliff.
"Sure, sounds good!" Mackenzie responded. To be quite honest, she was yearning to capture this beautiful day in the form of a drawing, and this break was the perfect time to do so.
They decided to stop in a grassy field near the path. There was an abundance of flowers, specifically daisies, throughout the field. The two trainers let their pokémon down so that they could play in the nice weather. Mackenzie sat on a rock and pulled a ginormous book with papers sticking out from the pages, from her bag. She flipped to a page and started to sketch out the landscape in front of her. Lorelai had grown accustomed to seeing Mackenzie drawing in that book of hers, but didn't quite understand why she liked it so much. What was so special about that book, that she carried it around with her, despite its weight. Lorelai was pondering this as she was building a fire to cook lunch, when she was interrupted from her thoughts by a weak cry. The two trainers looked at each other, then listened for the cry again.
"Pip luup! "(Help!)'" Lorelai almost immediately ran toward her pokémon's cry, with Mackenzie following close behind.
"Piplup, I'm coming!" Lorelai shouted as she raced toward the sound. How far had they wandered off? She thought to herself. She was going to have to have a talk with Piplup about running off. They found the both of them behind a rock. The rock was shielding them from a raging cubone.
"Seel, what happened?" Mackenzie questioned her partner. Seel quickly recounted how him and Piplup were playing tag, which Seel was bad at, considering that he didn't have legs or feet. As they were playing cubone appeared, saying that it was his territory and that they had to leave. Piplup, having as much pride as he did, said that they could play there, since Cubone's name wasn't written on it. Then, Cucone got angry and started attacking like crazy. They were hiding behind the rock to shield themselves from Cubone's attacks.
After Mackenzie explained what had happened to Lorelai, Lorelai turned to Piplup half proud and half cross.
"Piplup, why would you say that to Cubone? You knew it was just going to start a fight." Lorelai shook her head at her prideful pokemon.
"Pip pip piplup, piplup! '(I was just trying to help, I'm sorry!)'"
"It is okay Piplup." Lorelai reassured him, "But for now, we have an angry cubone to deal with." Lorelai stood up and faced Cubone with a spark in her eye. She had been wanting to battle for quite some time now, and now she could. Piplup ran in front of his trainer, ready for battle.
Mackenzie watched with Seel in her front pocket. Personally, she didn't like to battle, but she was happy to cheer her friend on! "Seel seel! '(Yay Piplup!)'" Seel shouted excitedly.
"Piplup, use-" Lorelai was in the middle of saying her first command when she heard a voice shout out a different command.
'Sylveon, use Fairy Wind!" Lorelai looked into the direction the voice had come from and saw a light blue glow. Then, all of a sudden, a strong gust of sparkling wind blew through the field, knocking Cubone off its feet.
"Cu cubone! '(Fine, you win!)'" Cubone shouted as he scurried away.
"Come on! Let's go find out who did that!" Lorelai shouted as she ran in the direction the Fairy Wind had come from, with Piplup following her.
"I'm coming!" Mackenzie said as she placed Seel in her front pocket. Though she wasn't really athletic, Mackenzie could run faster than most children her age. That was how she was able to catch up with Lorelai quickly. They both found Sylveon and its trainer towards the edge of the field. The trainer was a girl about their age. She had neon purple hair and wore what looked like a ballet costume gone wrong. The dress might have looked nice at some point, but the girl had added tons of glitter and bows.
"Hey! My names Lorelai! What's yours?"Lorelai asked excitedly. She loved to make friends with people.
The girl scoffed at Lorelai. "My name is Sophia, and I have never been so glad that it is."
"Why is that?" Lorelai asked Sophia.
"Because at least Sophia isn't a weird name like Lorelai!" Sophi started laughing like the funniest thing had just happened. Lorelai, however, looked like her head was going to explode.
"It is not weird! It is ORIGINAL!" Mackenzie was taken back by the anger in Lorelai's voice. Clearly, she had the same conversation many times with others. Mackenzie didn't understand why Sophia was saying stuff like that when they literally just met her two seconds ago. What did Sophia know about her and Lorelai. That's right! She knew nothing. Mackenzie was interrupted from her thought by another comment from Sophia.
"Yeah. Your name is just as original as the ugly blue your Piplup is." Sophia clearly was out to make some drama. She eventually got her wish.
"Piplup pip piplup?! '(What's wrong with blue?!)'" Piplup shouted.
"Nothing is wrong with blue Piplup. In fact, doesn't Sylveon have blue on her?" Lorelai thought she had verbally cornered Sophia, but she was wrong.
"Wow! You really are dumb aren't you?" Sophia continued to explain, "I didn't like the blue on Sylveon, so I dyed it pink."
"WHAT?! You can't change a Pokémon's appearance simply because you don't like the color of it!" Lorelai was yelling at Sophia. At this point Mackenzie was surprised that a fist fight hadn't broken out thought it was wrong too, but didn't want to make the already heated situation worse. So she kept her mouth shut. Mackenzie was successful at being unnoticed by Sophia until this point. But, Sophia was looking for drama, so she intended to get it.
"Hey Wallflower!" Sophia called mockingly at Mackenzie. "Are you going to say something, or are you as useless as you look?" Sophia then started snickering, but Mackenzie didn't notice. She had flashbacks to people calling her useless. From them chanting it on the playground, to a letter she once read. She was quickly saved from her flashback by Seel defending her.
"Seel seel! Seel seel seel! '(She is not useless! Don't call her that!)'" Seel would stick up for Mackenzie until the very end. Seel's defense was accompanied by Lorelai's angry response.
"We will see who is the useless one! Sophia, I challenge you to a battle!" Lorelai was in her 'psyched mood'. At least that is what Mackenzie called it.
"Fine. I accept your challenge. Wallflower over there can officiate the battle. How does one on one sound?" Sophia seemed as, if not more, confident than Lorelai.
"Perfect." Lorelai agreed. Honestly, she had no choice, since she only had one pokemon anyway.
"Lorelai, I hate to burst you bubble, but we left all of our stuff on the other side of the field. Could you guys wait until tomorrow to battle?"
"Of course." Lorelai agreed. Sophia agreed as well. First thing the next day they would have their battle.
As Lorelai and Mackenzie walked back to their things she thought she heard an all to familiar voice behind her, she turned around, but didn't see anything. Oh well, she thought. She couldn't focus on him now, she had a battle to get ready for!
Will Lorelai beat this new found rival, and who is calling her? Find out next chapter.
