Chapter 3: Eruza's Past
The two remained silent and still. Eruza was still in a state of shock, frozen with fear. Jakku another hand was in a state of awe. He was seeing a snowflake in Eruza's hands. The split second he saw, Eruza quickly dissolved the snowflake from her hand and backed away in fright.
"W-What's wrong, Eruza?" Jakku asked in concern.
"Stay away!" She almost shrieked in fright.
"W-What?" He asked in disbelief.
"Please just stay away!" She continued panicking. This caused her to accidentally shoot Jakku in the chest and force him to the ground. Jakku laid there unconscious while Eruza stared in wide-eyed shock and horror. "Oh heavens! Oh gods! I did it again! I've struck someone!" She panicked in low tone. But then she heard a groan and noticed Jakku stirring. He was alive!
"Urg." He made a low groan. "What was that?" He said as he got up.
"Oh my goodness! You're alive!" She gasped in shock. Without hesitation she ran over to him and hugged. "I'm so glad! So relieved!" She whimpered in his shoulder. She was crying.
"I'm alright, Eruza." Jack said as he awkwardly hugged her back. Rubbing her back side.
"But… how?" Eruza looked up at him with tears in her eyes. "How are you alive?"
"Are you disappointed?" He joked with a smirk.
"Jakku, I'm serious!"
"I… I don't know." He said honestly. "But… I think it may have jogged a little bit of my memory."
"R-Really?" Eruza was still shaken up a little bit.
"Yes." He nodded. "I am Jakku Toukan. My last name is Toukan. And…" Before he could say anything else, a snowflake suddenly formed in his hand. Both of them stared in shock and awe. "What in the…" Both were also left speechless.
"How in the…" Eruza said speechless. Looking at his hand Jakku was able to create a snowflake from his hand. "You're… You're like me."
"Like you?" Jakku asked in concern.
"I… I suppose I have to explain myself." Eruza said looking afraid.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." Jakku assured her.
"But I can see the eagerness in your eyes." Eruza said. "You want to know what I meant what I said."
"Still, don't pressure yourself in doing so." Jakku insisted.
"But you now know. So I feel like I should tell you." Eruza said on the verge of tears again.
"You certainly are a stubborn one." Jakku chuckled. "Alright, go ahead." He smiled down at her. It was then the two realized that they were still in each other's arms. The quickly departed from each other while they blushed bright red. "W-Well, uh… anytime you feel ready I-I will listen."
"R-Right." Eruza nodded. She then quickly regains her posture. "You see, I was born with this magic. I am able to create winter from the palm of my hands. It was ten years ago when me and An'na were young. She was 7, and I was 8. We use to play together all the time with my power. But when my parent discovered this they were mortified. They took us to see trolls up in the woods."
"Wait a minute. Troll?" Jakku asked. "They exist too?"
"Yes." She nodded.
"Hard to believe. But then again we both have winter magic." Jakku shrugged.
"Anyway." Eruza continued. "My parents took us both to them to ask for guidance. Well… more like a demand for answers. But my family was very close friends with the trolls. They told us that fear will be my enemy but love can thaw a frozen heart."
"I can actually understand that." Jakku said.
"You do?"
"Yeah. For some reason I do." Jakku smiled. "So, what happened next?"
"Well, due to this information our parents became so paranoid that we would be shunned because of what I am." Eruza continued. "So our father had me locked away from the outside world."
"He did what!?" Jakku spluttered in wide-eyed shock.
"Yes." Eruza nodded in shame.
"How could he do that to you!?" Jakku said. "Your own father!"
"I know what you're thinking." Eruza said. "But he did it with the best intensions. He and the rest of my family would always come and check on me. I could tell they loved me dearly. But because of my father's decision, I became so paranoid and a shut in." She quivered at the last sentence. Jakku felt a little urge to hold her hand to comfort her. "Then… my parents went out to see. They were either gonna find me a teacher to help me control my powers, or find a cure to get rid of them." Jakku flinched at that part. "But… They got caught up in a storm and died shortly after." Eruza was on the verge of tears. Jakku couldn't take watching her suffer any loger and he brought her into a hug. She gasped in surprise.
"It's all right." Jakku said rubbing her back. "I'm here for you." This was a big surprise to Eruza. A total stranger she just met last night, was hugging her, giving her comfort. This remained for about a minute before they slowly broke off. Jakku then wiped the tears off of here eyes. "Please don't continue." Jakku said. "It's too much for you."
"No." She shook her head. "I'm almost done anyway." She paused for a moment to regain her thoughts and breathed. "Days after my parents died. I became even more of a shut in. But then my sister An'na approached me and gave me comfort. It was because of her love for me that I was able to open up again." She said with a weak smile. "And over time I began to learn how to control it."
"I see." Jakku nodded in response. "That would explain the garden being a field of snow."
"Yes. I was practicing." Eruza said. "Well… before I found you… um… naked." She blushed bright red. Jakku did too.
"Uh, yeah." Jakku rubbed his neck. There was now a moment of awkward silence between them. "I'm still wondering about that."
"But how is it that you have powers like mine?" Eruza asked.
"I don't know." Jakku wondered. "But maybe another shot of yours might help." He smirked.
"W-What!? No!" She spluttered. "I can't do that!"
"Relax. I was just kidding." Jakku chuckled.
"Stop doing that!" Eruza groaned.
"Does anyone know about your secret?"
"N-No." Eruza stammered. "Please. You can't tell anyone outside the palace." She begged.
"I won't." Jakku said sternly.
"Promise?"
"You have my word." Jakku said. Eruza gazed up in his eyes and could tell he was telling the truth and was a man of his word.
"Thank you, Jakku." She smiled.
"Oh that's right. My walking stick." Jakku saw his walking stick and took it. "I just remembered I came back for this."
"Oh I see." Eruza said. "I understand. Sorry for this misunderstanding."
"Not at all." Jakku nodded. "I really enjoyed hearing your story and learning of your gift."
"Thank you, Jakku." Eruza nodded and smiled.
"Well I should be heading to bed." Jakku said standing up. "I'll see you all in the morning."
"Okay." Eruza said. "Will you be at the coronation festival at the town square tomorrow?"
"I certainly wouldn't miss it." Jakku smiled. Eruza smiled brightly. "And Eruza…" Eruza looked up at him. "…I think you have a beautiful gift. It's not a curse. Try and remember that." Jakku said sincerely before leaving. Eruza blushed bright red from his words. No one, besides An'na, has said that to him.
As Jakku made his way to his room, An'na was hiding and listened in on the whole conversation. She too amazed by the fact that Jakku had magic just like her sister. She wondered if Eruza was no longer alone and that she might open up a little more.
Jakku laid back in his bed in his room. He found himself having a hard time sleeping because he was thinking about Eruza and her powers. He also stared at his own hand and focused. He was able to make a small snowflake like Eruza's. Which made him ask himself who his identity was. But he thought nothing up as he soon drifted into sleep.
