It had been a week since Spencer had been shot, in that time all of Cara's stuff had been delivered from Vegas. J.J, Garcia and Cara had managed to get everything to fit nicely into the house, but Cara was just thinking about how they would fit all the baby stuff as well. Now, today Spencer was coming home. After he was checked out of the hospital Morgan was bringing him back to the apartment. Cara and Garcia had spent most of the morning cleaning up the place to make sure the wheelchair could be moved through, but Cara didn't think he would except the wheelchair anyhow.
Garcia walks into the living room, kitchen space and to Cara, who sat on one of the barstools on the island. She hangs up her phone and turns to her younger friend. "They just got out of Bethesda, should be here in about twenty minutes."
"If there was a better OBGYN in the area, I would not be making the drive from Foggy Bottom to Bethesda for this baby."
"Their OB is good?" Garcia asks taking another grape from the plate Cara had set out.
"Yea, uh Kaler? She's supposedly really good."
"I think that's who J.J had."
"It was, I asked her before I made the appointment. Second Trimester tests need to be done."
"That's right, your first trimester is almost over, how does that feel?"
Cara looks at her and rolls her eyes. "Like I've missed most of it. Because I did. I've
only known for a few weeks."
"Yea, but you get to celebrate the rest with Spencer, and the next three months are more exciting. You get to feel the first kick, start to buy maternity clothes, thinking about names."
Cara just stares at Garcia. "Pen, that stuff scares the shit out of me. That means its real. Like, I'm going to have to take care of a child soon."
"Not soon. Six months. We will have you prepared by then."
"But Spencer and I have only, really, just met. And now I've moved into his apartment and we are going to have a kid. It's insane."
"But its wonderfully insane."
A knock on the door takes them out of their staring contest. "I have a delivery for one Miss Cara Sterling" Morgan calls from the other side of the door.
With a smile on her face, Cara went and answered the door. On the other side sat Spencer in a wheel chair, holding a bouquet of roses. He holds them out to her with a smile, but soon winces in pain. She quickly grabs them to let him off. "Oh Spencer, their beautiful. Thank you." She bends down and kisses his cheek.
Morgan rolls his chair in but stops just at Cara. "Do I get one of those? I mean I did bring his shot up ass here."
"Hey" Reid complains.
Cara gives Morgan a kiss as well and thanks him. "And thank you Penelope! For everything."
"Of course." Garcia comes over and gives her a hug. "We will leave you both alone, but please call if you need anything." After taking her coat and giving a kiss to Reid, the two soon to be parents were alone.
"How do you feel?" Cara asks, sitting down on the sofa beside his wheelchair.
"Really good actually." Spencer says before standing up off his chair.
"Spencer, wait-" He waves her off as she stands to help and takes her spot of the sofa that she vacated.
After catching his breath he says, "See" takes a breath, "No big deal." Cara shakes her head at him then sits down beside him. "The big question is how are you? How's the baby?"
"I hardly have morning sickness anymore!"
"That's good, during the second trimester you should have less fatigue and morning sickness. On the bad side, you will have an increase in blood flow, so veins will become more visible." Spencer explains. Cara makes a sounds of disgust as she pulls up her long sleeves and looks at her veins. "It might not be happening right now, it will be further in."
Cara turns back to him, wanting to know more about what will be coming in the next month. "Anything else I need to know?"
Spencer looks down at his hands, pulling his eye contact from her. "Ahh… there is one more thing…"
"What is it? I am going to just become ugly? Self implode?"
"It's impossible to self implode, though it is possible to spontaneously catch on fire."
Cara looks at him like he's insane. "What?"
"Nevermind, during the second trimester there is normally and increased... sex drive." Spencer manages to get out.
Cara's eyes grew three sizes. Now she knew why he couldn't get that out. It was awkward for the, only knowing each other for, well, thirteen weeks. "Oh, that's…" She didn't know what to say. Neither of them did, but she knew she had to say something soon, before the silence got worse. "How big is the baby now?"
"About 2.9 inches and 8.1 ounces, about the size of a peach. Her head is about ⅓ the size of her body. She is forming vocal cords, teeth, and she had fingerprints. Her intestines are moving into place."
"So she is starting to be a little human."
"Yes, I would say she is going from a fetus to a baby."
"I think we should probably start deciding where she, or he, is going to sleep. I am okay with having her in my room with me."
Spencer just nods, he couldn't tell her that he had hoped, once the baby got here she would be sleeping in his room and the baby would have their own.

"Hey," Cara says, leaning in Spencer's room. "I'm going to go into work a for a little. Apparently someone leaked a bad old photo of my boss, a little intoxicated."
"Good luck with that." He says, not even looking up from his book. It had been a few days since he got back, and Cara could already tell he was bored. But he would always talk to her when reading. Though, that wasn't the only thing strange about his attitude right now. He seemed to be on the same page for the last minute.
"What are you reading?" She asks walking further into the room.
"The Evolution of the Production Line." He says laying down the book on his chest.
Though, when he did, something slipped out the top. She grabbed it faster than he could react with his injured side. She takes the folder out and tosses the book back on the bed. "An unsub profile?! Is this why Morgan came over earlier? I thought he was just checking up on you."
"They just need a little help with this. It's a major case and they are having difficulty catching the guy."
"But Spence,"
"I'm not hurting anything by reading that profile and giving my idea on it." Spencer says, cutting her off.
"Okay, okay. I'm going to go. Don't do anything stupid please."
Cara pulls up in front of Bethesda an hour after she left the apartment. She had taken her time getting there and she was still a few minutes early. She guessed she was just nervous about seeing the doctor today. It was her second trimester tests, they were a little early but she was worried that she wasn't growing much. If Spencer had noticed, he hadn't said anything. Which probably meant he wasn't worried, but she still was. She decided she would go in a few minutes early, there was most likely paperwork for her to fill out.
"Hello, welcome to the Bethesda OBGYN center. Name please."
"Cara Sterling."
"Yes, Mrs Sterling we have you right here. I just need you to fill out these new patient forms. You can sit right over there."
"Thank you." Cara walks over and sits down to begin filling out the forms. The beginning was the normal patient forms. However, the back page was full of stuff about the baby. Like due date, how far along, other OBGYN, and fathers name and medical history. I realized then that the only thing I knew about Spencer's medical history was that his mother was a schizophrenic. Though that was a major point.
Soon Cara was sitting on the uncomfortable table, waiting for the doctor to come in to see her. As the clock ticked, so did her nerves. She really just wanted to get this over with, but the doctor was already ten minutes late. "I'm so sorry for the wait." A young woman with short blond hair says coming into the room. "I'm Dr. Kaler."
"Cara."
"It's nice to meet you Cara. You can call me Minnie."
"Minnie?"
"Yes. My name is Melinda, but I just like the name Minnie." She gives her a bubbly smile before sitting down at the computer. "Okay, so you are here for your second trimester exams."
"Yes. And I would like to ask you a question."
"Of course! Ask me anything you want." She spins her chair around to face Cara straight on. Which Cara liked. She liked a woman that was confidant.
"I have only gained two pounds, is that bad for the baby? I mean is she squished in there?"
"Before I answer, is there a reason you say she?"
"No. I use both terms interchangeably. The father knows but we have an agreement that he won't tell me."
"How does he know? If you don't mind me asking?"
"He's kinda a genius… he has a bunch of PhD's but apparently he knows how to read sonagrams. So when he first looked at it he knew."
"He's a genius?"
"Yea, his IQ is like over 180."
"You wrote here that his mother is a schizophrenic?"
"Yes. But he is just a carrier. He is over thirty."
"Okay. But you realize that gives the baby a fifty percent chance that they could have schizophrenia? We can run tests to see today if you would like."
"Is that the test where you stick a huge needle in my stomach?"
"Sadly yes. We need to take fluid from your uterus."
Cara gives a little sutter at the idea. She was never too fond of needles but to think of one that large. "Could I call a friend to come here to just hold my hand as we do that? I think she could make it here in the time it will take to do the rest of the tests."
"Of course. But first I want to finish talking about the weight issue. Normally at this stage the baby is normally, only .81 ounces. So the weight you have gained it perfectly fine. Don't worry, the baby is not squished in there. Now call you friend and then we will start." She explains before turning to start putting on her gloves and getting the equipment set up.
"My Irish beauty, how are you?"
"I'm good Pen. But could you do me a favor?"
"Okay. Do you have time that you could come over to Bethesda and meet me? I'm having a test done and I just want someone to hold my hand."
"Of course sweetheart!"
"Don't tell Reid. I didn't tell him I was doing these today. He would have just wanted to come and that would have been difficult."
"I won't. But it's just tests right? Nothing serious?"
"Nope. Just the second trimester tests."
"Be there as soon as my baby can take me."
"Thanks Pen." She hangs up the phone and puts it back on her stuff.
She turns back to the doctor who was quietly waiting for her to be finished. "Lay back and we'll begin." She does and puts her feet up in the stirrups. The cold of the lube on the probe caught her by surprise and she jumps slightly. "Sorry. It's cold." Cara takes a breath and lets herself settle down. Everything was going to be fine.
"So, that wasn't so bad!" Penelope exclaims as they leave the hospital.
"Yes because you were not the one that had a needle stuck into your uterus." Cara says, not taking her eyes from the picture she was holding. She looked so much bigger and more defined than the last one. Though she still had twenty eight more weeks until she could hold him or her in her arms, she wanted it to be now.
"You can't wait can you?"
"Nope. Though I think I could do without the having to share a bedroom thing."
"Well, maybe you and Spence will be together by then and you will both have their own room."
"Yea, maybe."
Review Please! I was really stuck on this chapter and reviews make me want to write it more! Love ya all! Shalom.
