So, Kurt is falling for Blaine, huh? But is Blaine too obtuse to notice? Who knows…but let's go, shall we?
Chapter 3
April Anderson looked at the papers in front of her. She couldn't believe this. Blaine had sent her papers for custody of Kennedy. She knew that Blaine didn't have a legal leg to stand on. Kennedy was her daughter, and she'd fight her son for custody. But first she wanted to know why. Before she could pick up the phone, her son came barging into her office and she glared at him.
"Blaine Devon, can you explain to me just what these papers are?"
"Yes. Those are papers to file for guardianship of Kennedy."
"And just how are you going to take guardianship of Kennedy? You don't have a stable job, or a place to live, or anything of that nature."
"I just got word that Hillock hired me to be a full time teacher, and of course I have a place to stay. I'm living in the house that grandma left to me. And yes, before you ask…the renovations are complete."
"What makes you think you're competent to take care of your sister, Blaine? You're hardly an adult yourself."
Blaine knew that things were going to get dicey with his mom about Kennedy's custody. His lawyer had even told him as much, but he wasn't expecting his mom to fight as hard as she was about this. But he couldn't over look Kennedy not being taken care of.
"Because McKinley called me. Me. Did you know that Dee had the shit beaten out of her?"
"No, I wasn't aware."
"I know. Because Kurt tried calling you. He said that both he and Principal Figgins tried calling you, several times but got no answer. I was the one who went and sat down with Principal Figgins, I'm the one that sat down with Kurt, I'm the one who took care of Kennedy, April. Not you."
April hated when Blaine addressed her by her first name. She felt it wasn't respectful. She was trying to start her career back up, and if that meant sacrificing her children, then so be it, she'd do it. But it wasn't like her husband had been around either.
"Look, Blaine. You knew I decided to go back to work and if I was sacrificing my children then so be it."
"Your daughter is handicapped for fucks sake!"
"Don't take that tone with me, Blaine, and your sister isn't handicapped. She can't hear."
Blaine shook his head. He didn't know that his mother could be as obtuse as she was, but god was she. Blaine threw more papers down on her desk and she glared up at him. What else could she be throwing at him now?
"And what exactly is this?"
"This is a no-contact order."
"A no-contact order? For whom?"
"Kennedy and myself. You or Dad are not to get into contact with Kennedy or me at all. If you do, you will be in violation of that order. And I will be within my rights to have you arrested."
April gasped. She knew that her job as a Congressman's Aide wouldn't survive any jail time, but she wasn't going to lose her children over something as stupid as this.
"You're bluffing."
"Am I?"
The door opened and in walked the lawyer that Blaine had gotten in touch with through Kurt and he smiled at her. If there was one thing he knew from Kurt, it was that Sage James was a tough as nails attorney. That's when April knew that Blaine was a thousand percent serious.
"Mrs. Anderson?"
"Yes?"
"I'm your son's attorney, Sage James. Mrs. Anderson, the allegations that have been brought against you by your son aren't just coming from your son. They are also coming from Kurt Hummel, a teaching aide from McKinley High School and the principal as well. I've seen the documents, the complaints, and this recent beating. And I'm in agreement. We're going to file charges. Child endangerment and child neglect."
April looked at Blaine and his attorney and sighed. She couldn't get over how Blaine was betraying her with Kennedy, but she knew that he was only doing it for her. And that's what made her mad, was because she wasn't recognizing that she was being a horrible parent.
"Child endangerment? Child abandonment?"
"Yes ma'am. You are aware that your daughter, who has a special need, was physically attacked?"
"I was made aware of the situation just a few minutes ago by my son."
"Are you aware of the five previous reports from both Kurt Hummel and a Principal Figgins at McKinley High School?"
Blaine looked at his mother and then back to his attorney. He knew about them, because Kennedy told him about them. He wondered just how much his mother really knew about his sister, and just how much she truly wanted to protect Kennedy. Blaine had known from an early age that it was his job to look out for his Tweedle Dee, and he needed to do that.
"I was not aware of those calls, no."
"Mrs. Anderson, we're not going to continue this any further. Miss Anderson has specified that she wants to live with her brother, and the courts have granted that emergency stay. As of today, Kennedy Rose Anderson is no longer in your custody."
April looked at the lawyer in disbelief. She couldn't believe that her own son was trying to destroy her family. She also couldn't believe that her career was going to be in serious jeopardy if these charges came to fruition. She needed serious damage control, and fast.
"Is there any way we can make these charges disappear?"
"Now why would I do that, mother?"
Blaine asked. It made him sick to realize that his mom didn't care about Kennedy. Or him for that matter, and he had to override those feelings. He shook his head, dropped the envelope with the charges on the table, and turned to look at his mother.
"You should be ashamed of yourself, mom. Truly. To give me what I needed, but not to give Kennedy what she needs, is disgusting."
And Blaine walked out the door. He knew that protecting Kennedy was the best for her, and he was going to do just that. And he wouldn't let anyone stand in his way of protecting his sister.
