Emmett was confused. So very confused, yet intrigued at the same time. The thing that had his head spiraling? A human, more specifically Skyler Kingston. The name of the female that had his head reeling. Ever since he first laid his eyes on her, she left him confused. To him, she was a mystery.
What was so confusing about her? Her scent.
Being a vampire had its specialties, such as speed, strength, enhanced senses, that sort of thing. Though it also had its downfalls. The largest one being his insane thirst for blood, his want to suck the blood dry of every living human he came across. While he and his family were vegetarians the Animal blood would never quench their thirst to feed on humans. Normally he was forced to smell the intoxicating smell of what he craved most everywhere he went; he was forced to listen to it pump through the veins of every human he crossed, but when he first laid his eyes on her, none of that affected him. The craving of draining Skyler of her blood had never so much as even crossed his brain. It was weird. He could tell she was human because she smelt human as far as he could tell.
Emmett couldn't lie, She smelt intoxicating, but not in the usual 'let me suck your blood' way. Instead, her smell drew him in, He wanted to be near her, to protect her.
Emmett knew he wasn't the only one thinking such thoughts when he saw his adopted siblings also watching the female with curiosity and confusion. He had to force himself to tear his eyes away from her retreating back so that he could question the others surrounding him about the situation. Once she was out of earshot he had turned to his siblings. "Is it just me or did she smell different." At the time no one had given him a response, he assumed they were just as confused as he was.
For the rest of the school day, Emmett had spent the whole time thinking about one thing and one thing only. Skyler. He had been glad she was in a few of his classes and had spent the time he did have with her, trying to befriend her. Trying to become friends with the human seemed like a good plan. Not only did he want to learn more about her, but she was most likely the only person he could become friends with as he wasn't craving to spill her blood twenty-four-seven.
He was also glad to see she had befriended nearly all of his adopted siblings. He saw that she was becoming the closest with Jasper and Alice. so when it was time for lunch, It was no suprise when Alice practically dragged the taller girl to the table and forced her to sit with them. Not that it seemed like Skyler minded instead it seemed like the opposite, Besides being glared at by Rosalie, Skyler seemed to enjoy sitting and conversing with them.
Once the day was over, Emmett exited the building to see His sister talking to the girl that he had taken an interest in during the day, he quickly walked over so that he could join their conversation. Emmett couldn't help the snarky comments that fell right out of his mouth, and it didn't help when Skyler's reactions to his words was absolutely breathe-taking.
When Skyler announced she had to leave, so that she could get home, Emmett had been almost sad to see her go. Emmett couldn't say why The new female affected him so much, but he had this deep feeling to want to stay near her, protect her even. Once she had left, Emmett had climbed into his sister's car and got ready to leave. "You two are going to be adorable together!" Alice had exclaimed to him on the way home, her voice full of joy, and confidence. Some times his sister's future visions came in handy, but sometimes the fact that she could see possible futures was annoying. His eyes had widened at the comment, choosing to respond with "What the hell are you talking about."
He tried to shrug her comment off but failed when His brother, Jasper had turned to him and said. "Don't try to hide it, we can all see how you instantly felt connected to her when she showed up. While we may not understand why she smells different, there is clearly something between the two of you." Emmett had chosen to stay quiet after that. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Rosalie glaring at him, but he shrugged it off. Not really caring what her problem was about, she had been giving everyone an attitude all day.
Once they had arrived home, he sighed when Alice wouldn't shut up about Skyler, and it just so happened Carslile and Esme had overheard her rambling. Confused, Carslile had asked Emmett to explain the situation. When he told them what had happened during the school day, with Alice sliding her comments on the situation in every few moments, they also became intrigued. Both Carslile and Emse grew curious about the human, they didn't know why she smelt the way she did, and why none of their children felt the need to feed off of her Then Esme asked Emmett to invite her over so that they could see for themselves. So he did, He got her phone number from Alice, and then texted her, using Alice as an excuse to get her to agree to come over.
When she responded by saying she was hurt he only wanted her to come over to shut up her sister, Emmett froze. He hadn't meant to hurt her feelings or upset her. So in a rush, he had quickly texted back trying to reassure her he also wanted to see her. When she responded by saying she was joking, a huge weight lifted off of his shoulders. Even if this girl didn't know it, she had a strange powerful hold over him. Emmett didn't know how to feel about it either, he could only hope it wasn't a bad thing.
Emmett smirked when he asked if she wanted a ride, he would get to show off his beautiful Jeep, his baby. When Emmett got his Jeep he made damn sure he took good care of her, giving her the best engine he could find, leather seating, a great radio, just anything to make her even more amazing than Emmett already thought his Jeep was.
A smirk still attached to his face, Emmett had begun to get ready to leave, so that he could go pick up his human. Using a GPS he had eventually made it to her house. Shutting off the engine Emmett grabbed his phone and Texted Skyler, letting her know he was outside. He waited a few moments before seeing the front door open and Skyler step out, He watched as she turned and locked the door before quickly walking over to the passenger side of the Jeep. Unlocking the door, he hears the sound of the door open.
"Oh my god, I fucking love your Jeep!" Emmett stares at Skyler in adoration at the comment. He was glad she liked it, His jeep was Pride, and he was glad the girl in front of him also seemed to appreciate the beauty of the vehicle. The twinkle that appeared in her eyes when she spoke about the Jeep would have made Emmett's knees weak, had he been standing. A smirk appears on Emmett's face as he watches her literally climb into the tall Jeep, He keeps a smirk on his face to avoid laughing at her shortness, or making a comment about how she had to climb to get into her seat, instead of trying to make her angry Emmett speaks about his car instead.
"So do I." He responds smugly after a few seconds he continues. "She's my baby, gotta take care of her." Emmett could tell Skyler held a certain fondness for cars, and that made him happy. That meant he could share something in common with her, even if it was just a fondness of cars. A smile appeared on his face at the thought.
As Skyler shuts the door, and once the door is shut Emmet locks them, and glances at her when she puts her seatbelt on. Starting up the engine once more, he begins to pull out of the driveway. "So shorty you ready to walk right into the lion's den?" He questions a smirk on his face once more. Emmett knew his Adopted family would welcome her with welcome arms, especially Esme and Alice.
The drive home wasn't long, seeing as just like the Cullen household, the Kingston residence also resided just barely outside of forks, slightly more in the forest but still very close to the town.
As Emmett drove to his home, he couldn't help but keep glancing at the girl sitting peacefully beside him. The radio was off and they sat in silence, peaceful silence. Though out of the corner of his eye he could watch Skyler stare outside the window at the scenery.
After a few more moments they finally arrived at his home. Pulling up next to one of the other cars Emmett chuckles when a gasp is heard beside him. "This is your home?" Skyler pauses a moment, taking in the elegant home, and beautiful forest that surrounded it. Before Emmett can speak Skyler begins again. "It's gorgeous!" Emmett watches as Skyler's eyes twinkle in amazement, a small on his face.
"Just a warning, My mother and, Alice are most likely going to be all over you." He chuckles awkwardly. "If you need rescuing just tell me, and I'll sweep you off your feet shorty." He grins looking down at the human beside him.
"I'll keep that in mind." She says opening the passenger door and climbing out. Watching her Literally climbing down from his Jeep, Emmett tries once again not to make a remark about it."Stop looking at me like that, I'm not that short, your Jeeps just huge." Skyler mumbles looking up at Emmett, a pout on her face.
The look on Skyler's face would have made Emmett's heart stop. If he had one that is.
Climbing out of his Jeep, Raising his hands above his head in surrender, Emmett bellows with laughter. this causing Skyler's pout to deepen, but she can't help the small chuckle that escaped her. Walking closer to Emmett, she begins to follow him towards the staircase of glass steps.
Once Emmett reaches the bottom of the glass staircase, he hears Skyler speak. "Are these safe, what if they break?" Emmett hears the hesitation in her voice, and turns to reassure her they are perfectly safe. "Don't worry they won't break," he says and steps up onto the first glass step. Turning back to the shorter female he holds his hand out to her, a smug smirk working its way onto his face. "If you're too scared you can hold onto my hand, Shorty."
Emmett's smirk doesn't fade when she slaps his hand away lightly. "I'm not scared," she says confidently, but the look in her eyes says differently. Emmets face softens at the look on her face. "If you say so," he responds, not wanting to upset her by pushing her.
"Would you two hurry up!" A voice shouts from the top of the staircase. Looking up, Emmett sees Alice standing at the top, the door held open and an impatient look on her face. "Were coming, chill," Emmett responds to Alices, slightly annoyed voice. Turning back to Skyler he says "Come on shorty." and starts walking up the stairs. After a second he begins to hear the sound of steps walking up the stairs behind him, he smirks believing she must have gotten over what was bothering her.
Once they made it to the top of the staircase, Alice greeted them with a smile, looking towards the girl in front of her, her small smile turnes into a wide grin. "Welcome to our home, Skyler!" She said excitedly, happy her new friend was here. "Hey, Alice!" Emmett watched as the two greeted each other happily.
"Hurry up and bring her inside Emmett!" Said male turns to look inside the doorway, only to see his mother beckoning them to hurry up and come inside. While Emmett loved his mother, he also knows how excited she could get, he could only hope that between Her and Alice, that they wouldn't overwhelm Skyler.
Sighing he turns to Skyler, a joking smirk on his face. "Welcome to the lion's den!"
Emmett doesn't even flinch when Alice smacks him on the shoulder. "Don't call our house that, you'll make her think we're horrible people!" Alice's voice shows her annoyance, but Emmett just chuckles as a response. Taking a step inside the house, he can feel Skyler and Alice following behind him. He hears the two begin to chat lightly
Emmett watches his mother take a step towards the human girl. "Hello I'm Esme, I'm Emmett, Alice, Edward, Jasper, and Rosalie's adoptive mother." Esme's smile is soft and welcoming. He hoped Skyler would find it just that, welcoming.
