It was Charles' nature to be kind, gentle, charitable.
Finally he had an opportunity to help others like him. Other likes his quasi sister. He could help the future generation of mutants become a peaceful people, a people whom the society had no problems with integrating into their lives, their governments, their trust.
Charles was already finding mutants – future students – to teach alongside Erik. He only hoped Erik would come around, and realize that he needn't rage war against humanity.
After all, if humanity saw the mutants as being peaceful and cooperative, why would they want to eliminate them?
