A/N: Hiya guys, I haven't had the muse for a long time but I finally got new ideas. I KNOW where I'm going with this story right now and I apologize that this part os rushed, but there's a lot that I'm going to do and I really don't find the beginning very interesting ^^; Bear with me on this. I will update as often as my brain allows me to. Anyway, read on!

Twilight Princess With A Few Twists

Rei's P.O.V.

Today was the day! I'd finally be heading off to Hyrule Castle to deliver the Royal gift! With Link! But first I had to get all my chores done…

Fado had it easy for me today as instead of rounding up the goats on foot, he brought out a beautiful black mare and told me to name her. It may be unoriginal, but with her black shiny coat I couldn't resist naming her Nightmare. She obeyed me without me even saying anything which was a great surprise to me. The only time I had ever ridden a horse was while unconscious after an accident I had when I was younger.

We rounded up the goats quickly enough before doing as Link usually did: Jumping fences. Nightmare cleared the fences with ease. I think she was a little bigger than Epona to be honest. After an hour as the sun rose high into the sky, we left the ranch and headed down the path at a trot. Nightmare slowed as Link, Bo, and Ilia came into view. Mayor Bo and Link flinched away from Ilia and it was obvious that she was scolding them for something. But what?

As we got closer to them I could make out a few of Ilia's last words, "How could you be so irresponsible?! That's it, I'm taking Epona to the spring and you're not getting her back until she's healed!" and she walked away. Link and Bo stood there in shocked silence before Bo sighed. "We NEED Epona quickly so we can get that gift delivered on time.." Bo put a hand to his head and looked over to the village entrance where Ilia had disappeared to. Link nodded his head and only then did he seem to notice me. His eyes widened at the sight of Nightmare and he gently poked Bo in the arm. Bo had a similar reaction to Link's and it was quite funny!

"Rei! You have a horse!" He exclaimed with a smile. I nodded before looking to Link, "Yes I do now, but I think Link would very much like to get Epona back. C'mon, hop on so we can get to the spring faster!" He smiled in thanks and climbed up behind me, wrapping his arms around me waist. He may not have thought anything of it, but I tried to calm my blush as Nightmare started forward.

We arrived at the spring in less than three minutes and tried to open the gate. However, it seemed Ilia had thought ahead and locked it… We could hear Colin in there as well trying to talk to her and Link had the brilliant idea of using the tunnel entrance.

I waited outside as Link and Ilia sorted things out. Just as I was about to see what was taking them so long, I felt a tremor. A big one. Nightmare reared up without warning and I went flying off her back as she raced back to the village. "Nightmare!" I called frantically but she was long gone. I looked up in time to see a club come down on my head as a boar knocked the gate in to enter the spring. As my consciousness faded out, I felt a pair of strong arms lift me up and the last thing I saw was red eyes…

Link's P.O.V.

Ilia had just asked me to be careful on my trip to the castle when the ground started shaking. It felt like an earthquake! A loud crash echoed from the gate as a monstrous boar and goblin-like thing baring a club barged in. Ilia screamed and tried to run before an arrow sunk into her side and she went down. Just as I reached out for her I felt a sharp pain in my head and my vision faded to black..

I woke up a while later. The sky was still blue and I was laying in the spring. Very slowly, I sat up putting a hand to my face. What had happened? I looked around and saw no one. Where was?… Ilia! Colin! Those monsters! What about Rei?! I scrambled to my feet, almost slipping in the process, and hurried over to the broken gate looking both ways. Gritting my teeth in anger when Rei and her horse were nowhere to be found, I turned left and crossed the bridge before skidding to a halt…what in the name of the Goddesses was this black wall with yellow orange markings?..

I stepped closer and instantly regretted it. A roar echoed as a black hand wrapped around my throat and pulled me toward the black wall. I closed my eyes, bracing for impact, only to pass right through!.. And coming face to face with some kind of beast. It was ugly and deformed for sure and squeezed my neck ever tighter. I struggled to break free as a light pulsed from my left hand. The hideous creature threw me as if I had burned it and that's when the pain started. Nearly unbearable pain as I was forced to my hands and knees. My muscles were on fire, my head pounding, bones feeling broken. I could barely focus, barely noticing the fur sprouting on my body and a howl tore from my now elongated snout. Laying limp on the ground, I passed out..

Hushed voices reached my ears as I slowly woke up. Keeping my eyes closed, I listened. One of the voices was quite raspy, as if an old person. A very old person. The other was…masculine. It had a sort of deep timbre to it. And yet another was…more of a moan? Could that be a Redead? I had heard many stories from travelers about a Redead and how the sucked the life out of your body after paralyzing you with their horrific scream.

I couldn't really make out words, but I heard the shuffling of feet and the opening, then closing, of a large door. Had they all left? Was I finally alone?

"I know you are awake, girl. Open your eyes." That was the masculine voice from earlier…and I guess my tactic of feigning sleep was now useless. Obeying the voice, I opened my eyes. I had to blink a few times since my vision was blurry. When it cleared I could make out the walls, a dark gray almost black color and a beautiful mirror mounted on an intricately designed dresser. Just where was I? There was no place like this in Ordon!

The voice chuckled beside me and I received quite a shock at who I saw…what was Link doing here?! And why was he dressed like that? "..Link? " I asked quietly. He smirked and shook his head before grinning, revealing that two of his teeth were small fangs. "I'm not your precious Link. I am the darkness of him. Many called me Dark Link. You may as well, or you can call me Shadow." I blinked at the information as I sorted it out in my head…so he was the darkness? That would mean evil right? But then…why was I here, on a soft bed (I could feel the comforter beneath me), in a nicely decorated room and not in a dungeon cell?

"Shadow..where am I exactly..and why am I here?" I asked. He tilted his head to the side. Was he assessing me? As he sat down on the bed beside me, he explained," You are here in my castle because I rescued you. I arrived too late to get Link, so I am unsure as to where he is, but the children and that girl from the village have been taken by those beasts. You may be wondering why I would want to say you at all. Quite simply put: I hate Ganondorf. If you can recall the nightmare you had for six months after your parents were killed, you'll know of whom I speak." I nodded my head, remembering vividly every detail of that fateful night that had turned to my nightmare. But what does that have to do with helping Link and I?

"That man is pure evil. He does nothing but hurt others. How he has the Triforce of Power, I will never understand." I gasped at this, the Triforce of Power?! I thought the Triforce was just a myth! "Link holds the Triforce of courage," another gasp " and Princess Zelda holds the Triforce of Wisdom." This time, I wasn't surprised. She IS the Princess. "However, there is one other piece. The Triforce of Void. The upside down triangle piece in the middle of the sacred Triforce. And the being who posses that piece….is you," he finished. I fainted.

Link's P.O.V.

Soreness. Every muscle in my body hurt. I felt like I had been hit by a horse and carriage. I tried standing up, but fell back down. My paws couldn't hold me up just yet. Wait…PAWS?! My eyes flew open as I looked around, noticing my paws and fur. I heard a Clink as I tried to move around and noticed a shackle attached to me. Where was I?! It looked like a jail cell with hay in one corner, a low baring table in another… My head snapped up as a giggle caught my attention. A girl was.. floating… in the air. Well an imp like one anyway. Her body was small, her skin black and gray, and her hair was red orange. She also had a sort of.. helmet? On her head. She grinned and I groaned. Now what had life thrown at me?

An hour later and I was climbing a staircase with the imp, Midna as she was called, riding on my back and occasionally pointing out the way to go. As we reached the top I fought off a few Keese, which was disgusting since I had to bite them, and jumped up to an open door. Running across the rooftops and fighting off stupid monsters, we reached the tower Midna had pointed to and crept in through an open window. Padding up to an open door I pushed inside and saw a hunched over cloaked figure. A growl sounded from me on instinct and the figure whirled around, obviously startled. I could make out a pale face, but that was it.

Midna greeted her as she pushed back her hood… revealing that she was Princess Zelda! She apologized to me about turning into a wolf and between her and Midna, the Twilight that was cast on Hyrule was better explained. People had turned into spirits with no knowledge of it. We couldn't stay for long though, Zelda's guard was coming soon. As we headed out and back onto the roof, Midna reminded me of the friends I wanted to save. I barked and growled but calmed down as she made a portal and transported us back to Ordon Spring.

A/N So this is what I managed to get written, I shall save the rest for another chapter. Please review and tell me what you think!
