Elva awoke the next morning to a strange sight. The stone layed broken, split into pieces. Grief gripped her heart as she wondered what could have befallen Odessa's gift while she was this, she nearly screamed when there was a low growl behind her. Turning slowly, she saw a creature of witch the likes she had never seen before. It had four legs, a long tail and neck, with a slightly rectangular shaped head with fangs that curved down on both sides of its mouth. It's eyes where a bright violet while the rest of its body was a iridescent blue. It slowly crawled up to elva, causing her to take in a sharp breath.

"What...are you?"she wondered aloud. At the sound of her voice, it's head perked up and it climbed into her lap. Looking down at its back, she saw it had wings lined with a thin membrane. Slowly stroking the creatures head, a thousand questions swirled in her mind like a hurricane. What is this? Is this Odessa's gift? Why is this creature so small? What was the stone really?

Looking at the creature closer, she smiled. " I guess your...kinda cute." She said in a soft voice. As if in response, the creature shifted its wings to reveal a piece of paper. Picking it up, elva saw it was a note. She read it carefully, noticing the elegant handwriting.

~Dear Elva

As I have promised the elves, I have bestowed a hope. Though for it to truly become what it needs to be, it must be cared for. That is your job little are too young to remember the name of this creatures race, so I shall tell you. This is a hatchling dragon. But I warn you, just because she is young, it dose not mean she is not smart. She is intelligent. More so then the smartest elf even now when you get this name is Ruby. Care for her until she reaches maturity, teach her. But it won't be easy. Ruby is very fragile while she is still this young, and cannot hunt for herself. Nor will she survive the harsh winter as of yet. I have made sure she thinks of you not only her master, but her friend, and even mother. Take good care of her.

~ Odessa.

Elva was, to say the least, shocked. A dragon? Her it's mother? She looked at the hatchling and smiled, thinking of her previous life, and just how much ruby would much she would bring. Ruby suddenly made a strange noise, almost a squeak. She looked up at elva in a demanding way. Elva began to think of what she could need, then smiled as something dawned on her. "You you hungry?" She received a sharp nod in response. Marveling over the creatures intelligence, she responded, "okay. Follow me. But you have to stay quiet, if anyone sees you something bad might happen. My dad taught me to hunt when I was little, so I think I may be able to get something... But we caint bring it back okay?" Again a nod.

Grabbing her bow and arrows, she silently lead the young dragon outside and into the forest. She watched her step closely, so she would not make noise and scare off potential game. Ahead of them, a twig snapped causing the small dragon behind her to let out a soft whimper. Elva looked behind her to see what was wrong, to find the blue dragon hunched over, scared. With a look of regret she knelt down and took the dragon into her arms. " you may be smart, but your still really just a baby huh? It's alright, it's just a anmial. Most likely a deer or something similar. You don't have to be afraid.."slowly the dragon stopped shivering, and elva set her down. Standing up again, she started walking again.

It didint take long before another snap was heard, but this time, the dragon was silent. Elva prepared her bow, arrow strung. Walking forward much slower and with caution, bow raised, she went through the bushes that opend to a clearing with a large buck. Loosing an arrow, it zipped through the air and stuck the deer between the eyes, killing it instantly. Elva nodded sharply and looked down at ruby as she neared the downed buck. Elva went to a nearby willow tree and sat down as ruby began to eat.

Watching the clouds roll accrost the sky as she waited, elva smiled as a song came to her a soft voice, she began to sing..

In a world were all is perfect

Would I have seen thee roam?

In a world without this strife

Would I have ever met you?

In this world nothing is right

But Atleast now I have a reason to stand

You give me life

You give me strength

Let me care for thee...

You know not just where I've been

Nor do you know my destiny

But where I go is up to you

For you will influence me..

Within twenty minutes ruby came back over and curled up next to elva. "Ruby... What will I do? I want people to know about you...but..I don't want anything bad to happen to you.."ruby looked up at elva, and elva could have sworn she knew what the dragon was thinking.

"You...want people to know?" Elva guessed. She received a slow nod in return. With a sharp nod, it was settled.
