"Mom!" Henry screamed opened the door and ran into the house. "Mom!" He quickly took off his shoes, hung his coat and placed his backpack on the floor next to the stairs. "Mom?" Henry called out as he walked quietly through the house, careful not to be too loud in case Regina had been sleeping. He checked the kitchen, backyard and saw no sign of his mother. He slowly made his way up stairs towards his bedroom. He walked in his room and saw Regina standing there holding a cake that said 'happy 8th birthday Henry'. He looked around the room and saw comic book decorations ever where.
"Happy 7th birthday Henry." Regina said as she walked closer to him holding the cake. "Make a wish." She said as she knelt down to his level.
Henry couldn't contain his excitement as he jumped up and down before closing his eyes and holding his breath. A few seconds later, he blew the candles out on the cake and clapped his hands as he laughed.
"Did you wish for anything good?" Regina asked as she placed the cake down on his desk. She smiled as she felt Henry's little arms wrap around her waist from behind.
"I always have the best mom in the entire world"
Henry slowly opened his eyes as he felt the sun light hit his face. He sat up quickly taking in his surroundings, the slightly opened balcony, lit stone fireplace with a red chase in front of it. He was in his mother's room in the palace. He laid back down in bed and turned to his side, taking I the scent of Regina's perfume that he sprayed on the pillow next to him the night before. After they had returned to the enchanted forest, Henry had requested that he stay at Regina's palace. He was a prince after all and a prince needed his own palace. Emma knew that he had chosen this place because it had been Regina's home. Even with its dark past, it was still something that belonged to the women who had raised him. Then he chose Regina's master suit and insisted everything be left as Regina had left it.
He wondered where his mother's soul was after she had passed. Was she in heaven or was she in hell? Do storybook character's souls go to those places or did they have a place of their own? Could she see him and hear him when he talked to her? He had so many questions that nobody could answer for him. "That's is!" Henry got out of bed quickly and ran out of the room towards the throne room. He was running so fast, he didn't see Emma who had walked in his direction.
"Henry!" Emma yelled as she jumped out of the way in time before Henry knocked her over. "What are you up to kid?" she whispered to herself before she took off after him.
Henry entered the throne room and noticed a few people standing around. They all greeted him with a slight bow and he nodded. He still wasn't used to the formalities that came with being a royal. "Can I have the room please?" He asked politely and waited in silence as everyone left.
He walked towards the throne with a determination in his step. "I know you can hear me and I know you've been watching me from up there." He stopped in front of the King's throne. "I just want to talk."
"So talk."
Henry spun around so fast at the voice that came from behind him that he fell back onto the throne.
"Grow about a foot or two and you will fill in the throne just fine." Kat said as took a seat in the Queen's chair, Regina's chair. "What is on your mind, Henry?"
Henry sat up and straightened his shirt. "What are you?"
Kat looked into Henry's eyes. "Ask me your real question."
"I will but first I want to know what you are. It might help me understand what happened." Henry replied.
"I am the daughter of the Greek God Zeus, half mortal half god." She answered not taking his eyes off of him.
"What are you the Goddess of?"
"Ah, only the pure bloods have that perk." Kat got up from her seat and knelt down in front of Henry. She placed her finger under Henry's chin to raise his face so she could look him in the eyes. "Do not make me read your mind to find out why you really called me here."
"Can you take me to her, to my mom? When I walk to her, can she hear me?" Henry asked on the verge of tears. "I just want to tell her how sorry I am for all the bad things I did to her and that I love her and she will always be my mom."
"She knows this Henry. No matter what you did to her or how cruel your words were to her. A mother always knows her child's heart. She loved you with every fiber of her being and that love is why she sacrificed herself to make sure you would live. Your mother's soul is safe, Henry. I made sure of that." Kat whipped the tears from Henry's face. "I can't take you to her, Henry. Right now, she needs to adjust and come to terms what has happened in order to move on." Kat stood up and turned her head towards the door to the throne room. With a flick of her hand, the door opened and Emma stumbled in. "Your mother wouldn't want you to stop your living your life because of her passing. Promise me you will try."
Henry looked up at Kat and nodded. "I promise."
Kat approach Emma at the entrance of the throne room. "Emma"
"Yeah, sorry about that." Emma said as she looked at her son.
"Emma." Kat called to get her attention. "In the near future, there will be an event that will not only test the strength of that boy but everyone that he loves. When that time comes, be ready. He will need you more than ever."
