Wind ruffles my fur as I look down at the town Easton Valley from the hill not too far from the town. The sun shines bright above me, making the wet grass standout against its light. "It's so nice out today." said a cheerful voice.
I look behind me to see my team mate Chase resting casually on the ground with his eyes closed. "We should relax for the day."
Walking up to him I nudge his shoulder. "You know we can't do that."
He opens one eye and looks up at me. "Why not?"
I roll my eyes. "It took us three days to get here when originally it only should have taken us a day and a half but, you wanted to wander around aimlessly."
"Hey, you just can't speed through everything." He said. "Sometimes you gotta take things slow."
"Whatever, I'll take things slow once we get to Toshi town." I said, starting down the path.
"You promise?"
Turning my head, I see Chase keeping pace with me. "What?"
"You promise to take things slow when we get to Toshi Town." He asked, staring at me.
I avoid his gaze and look straight ahead. "Yeah, I guess."
I could practically hear him smiling next to me as we made our way down the path. I look at him out the corner of my eye. I wonder, I thought, why Chase was wandering when I first met him. During our adventure, I notice that he doesn't pay attention for too long. The only time he does pay attention is when it involves his stomach, other than that I really don't know anything about him. Well it's not like he knows a lot about you, a small voice says in a tiny part of my head. I give my head a small shake it is not that I don't want to tell him about my life it's just that…I don't want to tell him about my friendless childhood. I'm so busy listing reasons why I don't tell him about myself in my head that I didn't even realized that we we're at the entrance to Easton Valley.
"Look at this place." Chase said, taking in the sights. "It has so much energy."
Chase is right about that. Everywhere you look you will see crowds taking up space, lines of merchant's stands are littered everywhere, selling bright polished jewels, stylish colorful clothing and about anything your mind can think of. In the middle of the town I can make out a huge white marble water fountain squirting out fresh looking water.
"Do you smell that?" Chase asked, his nose sniffing the air.
Sniffing the air my nose is hit by the sweet smell of baked goods. I hear a loud moan next to me. I turn to see Chase walking through the crowd. "Chase! Wait for me."
Pushing through the crowd, I spot Chase in front of a small little bakery. The Bakery is a light green with vines crawling up the sides of the walls as if to claim it. I stand next to Chase while he sniffs the air around him rapidly. I stare at the sign above us in all its pink glory.
Sweetie's Delights.
"What a tasty name." Chase said.
"Chase, don't go wandering off like that without me." I scolded him but, he wasn't even paying attention to me.
"How 'bout we grab something to eat then get supplies later." He said, turning his hungry eyes on me.
"Chase." I said, in a warning tone.
"Oh, come on Clover." Chase begged. "I know you want to go in too."
I bite my bottom lip. He's right, the sweet aroma coming from the shop is intoxicating but, I must stay strong. I'm about to tell Chase this when I see he is gone… again. I see him through the window siting at a table in the far right corner, a waitress already taking his order. "I'm supposed to be the leader so how come he won't listen to me?" I muttered as I followed him inside.
Entering the room Chase started waving to me. "What took you so long?"
"Chase, What the fudge!" I yelled, as I sat down across from him.
He tilted his head to one side. "Fudge?"
"Where are in a child friendly place I can't curse even if I wanted to."
"Why can't you?"
"Because I don't want to set a bad example and don't go off topic!"
He leans back in his chair, arms behind his head. "I don't see what the problem is?"
"The problem is that you can't just go wander off whenever you feel like it." I explained. "Were a team so we have to look out for each other, so when you go wandering off to some place unknown how am I going to look after you if I don't even know where you are?"
He looks at me for a while then brakes into a big smile. "Ah! So that's what you're all up in a knot about."
I let out a sigh of relief, finally he gets it, and I thought it was going to be harder than that but, thank Ho-Oh he understands.
"Don't worry Clover, I'll make sure you don't get into any trouble." He says with a smile still plastered to his face.
What.
"Just make sure you stay close to me, okay?" He continued.
I slam my paw on the table, startling a few Pokémon around us. "M-me get in trouble?! If one of us got into any trouble it would be you not me."
Chase gets closer to my face, putting his paw in front of his mouth. "Are you sure about that? Cause last time I checked it was me rescuing you from a bunch of weavile back in the forest."
"B-but you-"I stammered.
"If you ask me, that sound like you getting in trouble." he said.
"Nobody asked you!" I said, getting up in his face. "Plus if it wasn't for you eating all of my food supplies and then making me waste half the day re-packing I wouldn't have had to travel at night in the pouring rain."
Suddenly Chase's huge smile turns into a frown and his eyes get teary. "You said that you forgave me!"
"Well." I pouted, crossing my arms and turning my head away from him. "Maybe I lied."
I turn back to face him and see his arms spread out wide, his eyes brimming with tears. "Cl-Clover I'm sorry for eating your berries!"
I froze, stunned to see him actually crying over something as stupid as berries. "Hey, it's okay."
He shook his head from side to side, arms still open. "But you said-"
I tap his head. "I was kidding of course I forgive you."
"Really?"
"Really."
He smiles at me but, his arms are still held open and he stares at me. I sigh and stretch over to hug him.
"Um, excuse me?" murmured a sweet voice.
Separating from Chase I see a Delcatty holding a tray filled with an array of treats between her teeth. Gently she puts the tray on our table, bows her and then walks away with a smile.
Taking in all the tasty look pastries on the table, I pick up a cookie shaped like a rose and pop it in my mouth. "Wow! This is good."
Chase doesn't even say anything instead he just shakes his head in agreement with a mouth filled with food. I laugh at him trying to stuff all the food down until I hear a scream.
"How can I help you~" purred the same Delcatty who severed us.
Turning my head I see a huge crowd at the door, most of them was girls. "I wonder what's going on over there."
The crowd starts to spread out and I see Delcatty show three Pokémon to their table. "Ah! So many beautiful women here." said the Pokémon on the right, top half of his body is blue, while the lower half is a cream color. Its ears are triangular with red insides, and it possesses a rounded nose and checker piece red eyes, it has five red spots on its body.
"Calm down Rio, you're going to scare the waitress if you keep panting over her like that." said the one on the left most of his body is red except its ears are broad with orange insides, and it has oval eyes and a small black nose. It has a swirled, flame-like tuft on its head with a smaller tuft on either side of it. Has white shoulder ruffs, and a cream-colored face, chest, fingers and toes.
Finally the one in front of those two, he has long ears, dark blue eyes, and a small black nose. His body is covered in reddish-orange fur. However, his bushy tail, fluffy collar, and a tuft of fur on its head are the color of honey in the sun. Just by the way they walk and how everyone reacts to them I can tell they're important but, I just can't figure out why. Sure they're a group of good looking guys but, there has to be more than that right?
"Hey, Chase it's starting to get a bit crowed in here huh?" I asked, as I turn back around but, then I see the look in Chase's eyes and I freeze. His usual playful baby blue eyes are now cold and narrowed at the table those three popular Pokémon are sitting at. I also notice that Chase is gripping the side of our table, reaching out I place my paw on his. When he looks up I give him a reassuring smile. "Hey, hey it's alright."
"Sorry it's just that I…don't like flareons." Chase said.
I gasp. "Chase, are you being racist?!"
A panicked look comes across his face. "What! No I'm not being racist it's just that I don't like that particular flareon."
"Oh but, why not?" I asked.
Chase turns his head away from me. "It's a long story."
I frown at him. "Then tell me this 'Long story' of yours."
"Clover-"Chase starts but, I cut him off.
"No, I want to know." I said, grabbing his face with my paws so he looks at me. "I'm your friend so if something makes you upset I want know why."
It's while before anything happens but, then he starts laughing. "Okay, I get it so stop with the determined look already. Sheesh, you don't take any 'No business' huh?"
"Nope! Now come on, let's get out of here." I said while putting the money on the table.
As we walk through the door I feel like someone is staring at me. I look around the street but, no one is paying me any attention. Then I look back into the bakery we were just in and I see that flareon looking right at me. He can't be, I thought, staring at me right?
"Hey Clover, come on hurry up!" yelled Chase. "You'll get into trouble if you're alone, remember?"
"I don't get into trouble!" I yell back. With one more glance at the store, I hurry up to Chase.
As we start walking down the narrow path, Chase guides me through the sea of Pokémon.
"Now we're should I begin…Ah! Okay it happened about two years ago when I was still part of the Explorer guild Goronda.
I stop walking and tilt my head to the side making sure I heard him right. "Y-you were already part of a guild."
Chase stops walking too, a causal smile on his face "Yeah but, don't worry I'm not a part of it anymore."
"B-but why not?"
"Well, because I got kicked out the guild that's why." He said, like he was discussing what to have for dinner.
I could only blink at him.
My partner, I thought.
"Ooooh, clover look that guy over there is selling ice cream." Chase said rushing over to the ice cream stand.
My partner was not only part of a whole kind of different guild than Rescue guilds.
Chase comes back with two vanilla cones, a goofy smile on his face. "Here you go."
But he also got kicked out!
"Huh? Clover what's wrong."
I can only stare at his innocent face holding two melting ice cream cones and think. Who is this Pokémon that I call my friend and team mate!
