Chapter 3: Unexpected Possession
Christopher's POV
I was woken up from my nightmare by my computer, and looked to see Jacob was still asleep. Reason: earplugs. I then got out of my bed, and walked to my computer, only to receive a knock at the door. I answered it and saw nothing but a small box. I concluded it was for me, since Jacob didn't order anything. At least not without telling me. I opened it and saw it was a necklace with a lightning bolt shaped ruby, identical to the bracelet that allowed me to fly on Lyoko. I decided in the morning, I would show it to Yumi.
The next morning, General POV
Christopher was leaving the dormitory wing when he saw the same person he wanted to talk to.
"Hey, Yumi." He called, getting the Japanese girl's attention.
"Hey, Christopher." She greeted as Jordan walked over to them.
"Hey, guys." She greeted them.
"Hey, Jordan." They both said to her.
"As long as you both are here, I'm confused. I found this necklace on my doorstep last night. What do you girls think about it?" Christopher asked as he handed the necklace to Yumi.
"Creative crystal, but otherwise, not bad." Yumi said.
"I agree. Whoever made it had to be amazing to get the gem in the exact shape of a lightning bolt." Jordan said.
"But I wonder who gave it to me. And why." Christopher said.
"Why? We might have an idea. You know what day it is today?" Yumi inquired.
"Uh, Tuesday." Christopher replied.
"Yes, but not just any Tuesday. It's Saint Valentines Day, the day all lovers celebrate." Jordan said.
"Lovers?" Christopher asked.
"Yes, and we can guess exactly which girl might wanna give you a present. Can't you?" Yumi and Jordan asked at the same time.
"Don't do that again. It's kinda creepy." Christopher said, causing the two girls to laugh. Christopher then put the necklace on and took off to find Chelsea. He finally found her with Jeremie, Odd, Ulrich, and Aelita and ran to them.
"Hey, there's Christopher." Odd said as Christopher reached them.
"Thanks, Chelsea." Christopher said.
"You know, when I first see someone in the morning, I tend to say 'Good morning'. But, then again, maybe I'm a little old-fashioned." Ulrich said, making Aelita giggle.
"For the necklace. Thank you." Christopher said.
"The, um, necklace?" Chelsea asked.
"Your Valentines Day present. I love it."
"Oh. You're welcome. It's only natural."
"Well, see you guys in history class."
"See you, Christopher." Aelita said.
Christopher walked away from the four of them.
"You didn't give it to him, did you?" Jeremie asked Chelsea.
"Was it that obvious?" Chelsea asked.
"Yeah. But lucky for you, love has made Christopher blind." Ulrich joked.
"Ah, come on, Ulrich." Aelita said.
In history class
"Aelita, did you give Christopher that necklace?" Chelsea asked, and the pink-haired girl shook her head.
"I don't like him like that." Aelita whispered, insulted that her friend would think that.
"How do I know you're not lying to me? I see the way you look at him." Chelsea retorted.
"You're crazy!" Aelita shouted, standing up.
"Says the girl with the pink hair!" Chelsea retorted as she stood up.
"It's my natural color!"
"But-"
"Ahem." The teacher said. "If you have more important subjects to discuss than today's lesson, I suggest you do so in the principal's office." He added, and the two went to Delmas's office, where they then were scolded by him.
"In both of your cases, this is unlike you both. Two hours of detention should help you to find some more convincing arguments. And you're lucky it's Valentines Day, or I'd have given you at least four." He said, then the girls walked out of his office.
"I'm still waiting for an answer." Chelsea told Aelita.
"Hey, why don't we call a truce, huh?" Aelita asked.
"Was it you who gave him the necklace, yes or no?"
"Okay, then. No truce." Aelita said, then walked off.
Chelsea walked to the yard when DJ and Jordan tried to calm her down.
"Come on, Chelsea. It's stupid to fight over a little thing." DJ said.
"He's right. What's more, Aelita has every right to give Christopher a present if she wants to." Jordan added.
"DJ? Could I talk to you for a minute?" Sissi asked.
"Well, only if it's really important." DJ said.
Sissi then handed him an envelope.
"For me? Is this for Valentines Day?" He asked, making Sissi scoff.
"No, it's for Christmas. Of course, it's for Valentines Day. Go on. Open it, handsome."
"Wow. A ticket to the SubDigitals concert."
"Isn't that your favorite group?"
"Well, yeah."
"Unbelievable." Jordan muttered.
Meanwhile, Christopher stood over a bathroom sink as red sparks raced up to his eyes. When he opened them, the eye of X.A.N.A. replaced the normally emerald green eyes.
In science class
"Where were you? I looked for you everywhere." Chelsea said to Christopher, unaware that X.A.N.A. had taken control of the boy.
"I was, um, uh... Do you think we could go to Sector 5 after class? I know where to find the data for making the antivirus."
"The one that'll free you from X.A.N.A.? You mean to say, it just came to you just like that?"
"Let's just say that your necklace inspired me."
"Th problem is that given everybody's bad mood today, I doubt that even Aelita's gonna want to go with you."
"I can go by myself."
"No, it's too dangerous. Don't forget X.A.N.A.'s ready to go to any extreme to steal your memory, Christopher."
"Please, Chelsea. I'm positive I'm on the right track, and with an Overboard, I'm sure I can get away from all of the monsters, including the Scyphozoa. Please? Hmm?"
He then kissed her on her cheek, which caught off guard and made her fall out of her seat. As a result, she earned herself two more hours of detention, with a warning of suspension if she did something else out of place.
She walked back to her room to see Christopher, Jordan, and Yumi standing there.
"Yumi and Jordan say they'll go with me to Lyoko." Christopher said, earning nods from their friends.
"After everything that's happened today, it'll be nice to get something accomplished." Chelsea said.
The four of them then made it to the factory, still oblivious to the fact that X.A.N.A. was controlling Christopher.
"Ready guys? I'm starting the process." Chelsea said as the trio made their way to the scanners.
"Transfer Yumi. Transfer Jordan. Transfer Christopher."
The scanners closed.
"Scanner Yumi. Scanner Jordan. Scanner Christopher."
"Virtualization. Hey! That's weird. Hmm..."
The trio landed in the Forest Sector.
"Girls, I noticed something wrong with Christopher's virtualization. Is he-"
"He's fine, Chelsea. He's with us." Yumi assured Chelsea.
"Okay, then. Vehicles for the trio coming right up." Chelsea said as she programmed the vehicles. "Materialization." The Overwing and Overboard appeared in front of them.
"You need to go due east to get to the edge of the Sector." Chelsea said.
"No way. I'm heading north." Christopher said.
"But, I don't understand. You're supposed to go to Sector 5."
"Sorry, ladies." Christopher said as he swung his leg under both Jordan and Yumi's then kicked them into a tree. Once they were out, he jumped on the Overboard and took off.
"Yumi and Jordan, are you two okay?" Chelsea asked.
"We'd be lying if we said we were." Yumi said.
"What's gotten into him?" Jordan asked.
"I don't know. He's lost it. You two, Jacob, and William absolutely have got to stop him. He's headed due north." Chelsea said as William and Jacob mounted the Overbike, and Yumi and Jordan mounted the Overwing.
"We'll try, but we're gonna need some backup." Yumi said.
"I'm on it."
At Kadic, Aelita was talking to Chelsea.
"Chelsea, we're supposed to be doing two hours of detention now. Speak slower. I can't understand a word... An attack by X.A.N.A. Is that all you can think of as an excuse for us to make up?"
"Aelita, listen to me. It's an emergency. Just get over here now." Chelsea said as Aelita's phone was taken by Jim.
"No cell phones in detention. Where is Chelsea Jernigan?"
"Aelita? Aelita? Can you hear me?"
In Sissi's room
"Relax, DJ." Sissi said.
"This chick's worse than Jessie." DJ thought to himself.
"Surprise! The latest SubDigitals CD. Look. Not bad for getting in the mood before going to the concert."
"Uh... Sissi... Uh... Listen."
"You're right. Let's not talk. Let's listen." She whispered as DJ's phone went off.
"Hello?... Yeah... Yeah... Chelsea... Okay. I'll be right there. Right, I'll take care of it."
"Hey! Where are you going?" Sissi asked.
"Chelsea just reminded me of a really important thing I have to do."
"What?"
"Uh... Well, leave." He said, then left to pick up Brady, Odd, and Ulrich, while Jeremie went to try and spring Aelita from detention.
Meanwhile, Jordan, Yumi, Jacob, and William finally managed to catch up to Christopher.
"Okay, Chelsea. We see him." Jacob said.
"Guys, do any of you know how Christopher got that necklace?" Chelsea asked them.
"He told me and Yumi he found it on his and Jacob's doorstep." Jordan said.
"Do you think X.A.N.A. could've put it there?" Yumi asked.
"I'm launching the Superscan. We'll know in a minute." Cheslea said.
"What's your theory?" William asked her.
"In my opinion, it's that dumb necklace that gives X.A.N.A. control over Christopher. He wants to lead him straight to the Scyphozoa. Oh no! That's exactly what I was afraid of! Looks like X.A.N.A. has activated a tower."
"Don't panic, Chelsea. we've just about caught up to him." Jordan said.
Christopher saw them behind him and banked a hard right with the others still tailing him.
"And I was about to say this was too easy." Yumi said.
"When is it ever easy, Yumi?" Jordan asked as Christopher flew past two Krabs, who then opened fire on the others. DJ, Ulrich, Brady, and Odd, were virtualized to help fight the monsters.
"Chelsea, I don't want to sound pessimistic, but if Jeremie and Aelita could hurry up a bit." Yumi said.
In the study hall
"You see, Jim, Christopher has 104 fever, so naturally, he wants to see Aelita. She's his only family here." Jeremie explained.
"A minute ago, it was 103." Jim said.
"Right. His temperature keeps going up by the minute."
"What do you take me for, some kind of idiot?"
"Well, um... No. No, Jim." Jeremie said as his phone went off. "Yes?... Well, no. Jim doesn't believe me... About Christopher's fever."
"Okay. Put him on, Jeremie." Chelsea said as she used Jeremie's voice synthesizer to match Delmas's voice.
"Here you go, Jim. It's for you." Jeremie said as he handed Jim the phone.
"Yes?... Yes. Of course. I understand, Mr. Delmas." Jim said, making Jeremie smirk.
"Do you hear me, Jim? Let Miss Stones see her brother." Chelsea said as Delmas.
After she hung up and Jim let Aelita go, the two of them took off to the factory.
Meanwhile, Jacob and William were just devirtualized, forcing the others to retreat.
"Chelsea, tell us you've reprogrammed new vehicles." Yumi said.
"Give me ten seconds, Yumi." Jeremie said.
"So, finally came to join the party, eh, Princess?" Odd asked.
"Aelita's in the Ice Sector. I sent her there to try and delay Christopher long enough for you guys to get there." Jeremie said.
"Well, how do you suggest we reach the Ice Sector? Through a Way Tower on the vehicles?" DJ asked.
"The others have done that before, guys." Jeremie said as they arrived in theIce Sector and finally caught up to their elf friends to see the two fighting hand-to-hand, until the Scyphozoa made its way to them.
"Suggestions, anyone?" Yumi asked.
"I do have one idea, but it's awfully risky." Jeremie said.
"Well, let's hear it." Ulrich said.
"Odd, you or Brady have to aim at Christopher." Jeremie said as the Scyphozoa proceeded to take away Christopher's memory.
"What? Are you crazy?" Brady asked.
"Hey, don't forget that if Christopher loses all his life points, he'll disappear forever." DJ reminded Jeremie.
"X.A.N.A. wants Christopher's memory. He won't risk losing that. Deep down, he wants Christopher alive as much as we do." Jeremie said.
"Are you sure?" Jordan asked.
"No, but I can't think of anything else." Jeremie said.
"Okay. Here I go." Odd said as he reluctantly aimed at Christopher and fired at the elf.
"Only 30 life points left!" Jeremie said.
"You want me to stop?" Odd asked.
"No. I just hope I'm right."
Odd kept firing at Christopher until he was let go.
"X.A.N.A.'s giving up." Jacob said, but the Scyphozoa kept trying to take Christopher's memory.
"Uh-oh. The Scyphozoa's at it again." Chelsea said.
"It was too good to be true." William said as Odd fired, causing Christopher's life points to drop to 10.
"Only 10 life points left." Jeremie said as Brady took over since Odd ran out of ammo, but the Scyphozoa retreated.
Christopher's POV
I sat up and saw I was in the Ice Sector. I looked back to my friends.
"What's going on? Why are you both aiming at me?" I asked Odd and Brady.
Aelita knelt next to me and explained what happened to me.
Once we all made it to the activated tower, I entered it, walked to the center, levitated to the top, and placed my hand on the interface.
Christopher
CODE: LYOKO
"Tower deactivated."
When we all were brought back to Earth, Yumi stepped on the crystal and revealed a sort of microchip.
"I say we study this, Chelsea. You never know. We might be able to get some interesting information about X.A.N.A." Jeremie said, earning a nod from Chelsea.
"Anyway, Christopher, from now on, you don't take any presents from anyone but us." Ulrich said to me.
"Promise. You know, you guys saved my life, and that's the nicest present anyone can hope for." I said.
That's chapter three. As I said, this chapter was influenced by Saint Valetines Day. Anyway, review and, like always, I'll post more chapters.
