"I don't believe you."

He looks at his phone in shock, hoping that what he had just heard from the other end was just his imagination, but knew it wasn't. Did he just say...

"Kev, you're joking, right? There's no way.."

"I have the papers right here. Why do you think I'm lying about this?"

"How do I know it's something you got from the internet?"

"I called the office when I got this. It's the real deal." He expressed with importance, as he shook the papers in his hand.

"Sure it is," Ed's voice dripped with sarcasm and anger, "and I bet they also told you all those things you had were just in your head."

No response. "Hello?"

Wordy looks at the ground, trying not to cry on the phone, even though he was in the comforts of his own home, where he was able to cry, scream shout, yell, do whatever, the only barrier being the person on the phone right now.

"Wordy, I know you're still there." Ed's voice jolted him out of his thought. His voice was calm, and understanding. "Not saying I'm not happy for you, It's just a lot to process right now. You don't hear that a doctor did something wrong everyday." Ed lets out a small chuckle to relieve the heavy tension that was in the air, only to hear no reply. Wordy hears a groan from the other line followed by a loud 'oof' and a thud on a soft surface.

Wordy looked left and right, waiting for a black van with red and blue lights to turn the corner into his driveway. His hands and feet were splayed out between him, his shoulders occupied by the straps of his backpack. He swung the backpack around to his lap, unzipping it to pull out a black Sony Walkman. He presses the power button until a blue screen popped up, and puts the earbuds into his ears, pressed play, and closed his eyes. The soft sounds of brass sounds vibrated in his ear, and his thoughts wondered off into his future and what would happen next if this is actually the truth. He slightly smiled at the thought of him and his wife and kids at a park, swinging on the swings, barbequing, everything he was afraid he wouldn't be able to do again.

Wordy suddenly jumped at the sound of very loud honking and yanked out his earbuds. he glances up and beamed at the car, whose driver is currently waving frantically at him, showing th same smile he was.

"Come on! We got some results we need to find out!"
