Here's chapter three for y'all. I know it's been a couple months but I've been extremely busy. I really have NO IDEA where this story is going and it's honestly a load of crap and very unstable, but I'll keep it going...for now...

The next morning Kate woke up feeling exhausted. All she wanted was to crawl back under her duvet and sleep for a couple more hours, but she had work in about five minutes. Which gave her just enough time to throw on her work clothes, grab a banana, and then head downstairs to the cafe.

Kate enjoyed working at the cafe, she really did. The owner was nice, it was right below where she lived, and the pay was pretty decent. Not to mention she met a diversity of people while working the counter. Witches and wizards who stop in to have a cup of tea or coffee before continuing their journey. Kate heard many stories of fighting off dragons and interactions with dark magic. It fascinated her, but she didn't want to travel, she was content with staying in her little shop in Diagon Alley. She liked it because it was familiar, something she knew and was comfortable around. She didn't like change.

With the flick of her wand Kate turned the store sign to open and took her place behind the counter to start the day. It was usually quite slow the first hour that the cafe was open so Kate did little jobs around the shop. She washed the counters and tables, made sure the machines were working properly, and swept the floors. Of course she could have used her wand to do most of these things but it would have ruined the purpose of keeping her busy. Plus she liked to do things herself. It made her feel more independent and in control.

Her first customer came in about forty-five minutes after the shop opened. It was a regular, an elderly witch that came by everyday and had ordered the same thing for the past three years. Although today she was a bit early. Kate didn't usually see her until around nine o'clock, when the cafe was bustling with people.

"Ms. Watchen, I didn't expect to see you for another hour. What's got you out of the house so early?" Kate asked as she started to get her drink ready, a cup of peach tea with two sugar cubes and milk.

"Well my granddaughter is getting married today and there is lots to be done, so I'm on a very tight schedule."

"Wow, grandchild getting married already? She can't possibly be that old." Kate thought it was ridiculous to get married at a young age. In fact she thought was insane to get married at all. It was hard enough to keep everything in order and another person would just make it that much harder.

"She'll be nineteen in a month. Close to your age if I am correct." Ms. Watchen slid the 4 sickles and 7 knuts she owed over the counter and continued, "They were going to wait but with the incident with He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named they decided it was best to get married now before complications arise."

Kate just nodded her head in agreement and handed over the tea in a travel cup. She had heard and read all about the episode at the Ministry of Magic, and she couldn't help but agree a little that it was smart to get important events done sooner than later. Things these days had become quite unpredictable.

"Well I wish all the luck to your granddaughter Ms. Watchen, have a nice day!" Kate smiled at the old witch who waved as she left the small cafe, and with that the place was once again empty.

The morning rush had just settled down and Kate was left with only a few customers scattered around the store. Her hands were a little tired from making so many drinks, but she enjoyed the feeling. Creating something with her hands rather than her wand gave her a satisfying feeling. It was one of the reasons she loved working in the quaint cafe.

As she washed down the counters and equipment Kate thought back to the conversation with Ms. Watchen. Marriage. The word alone was enough to make Kate shy away. People were always hounding her on why she never had a boyfriend. "Why aren't you in a relationship yet, Kate?" or, "You need to get yourself a man!" and her personal favorite "Are you lesbian or something?". The fact of the matter was that Kate just never saw the need to have another person in her life. She was extremely independent and didn't want to have to rely on others.

Not to mention the fact of having another living person know every single detail about you wasn't very appealing to her. The only person Kate had ever gotten close to was Marley, and not even she knew everything about her. She liked to keep to herself. Not let anyone know more than they should about her.

There were a few boys back at Hogwarts who wanted to go out with her. A couple of them had the guts to actually ask her, but when they did they were unfortunately (for them) rejected. After the first few guys were shut down not many more dared to ask.

But even though the idea of marriage left a bad taste in her mouth, Kate didn't judge those who did want a relationship. In these times it was probably best to be close to the ones you loved.

The sound of the bell on the door jingling brought Kate out of her thoughts, and when she looked up she saw a lanky boy with plenty of freckles and red hair walking towards her.

A/N: Hehehe...So um, sorry for the long months in between this chapter and the last one. Life is big ole' mess right now that needs a big mop to be cleaned up with.
