Deidara Goes Into Shock

Chapter 3: (By WinterSpirit13) Revelation

For the next few days, the Akatsuki learned that Deidara was stubborn. Very stubborn in fact.
They already knew this of course, but didn't truly realize that the blond was this headstrong to STILL deny the fact his partner was dead. It had only been a few days, true, but Deidara refused to accept it. It had become a sore subject, and now Deidara proceeded to bomb anyone who decided to challenge him on the matter. And that included trying to clean the room out, touch any of Sasori's things, or even discuss who would be his new partner. Heck, mentioning the words "new" and "partner" in the same sentence was just asking to be blown up.

Deidara was moody. Angry. An out of control ticking time bomb, and they didn't know if or when he would explode. Literally and figuratively.

Everyone caught on to this but some, well; some were far more tactful than others. The less tactful ones where usually immortal, and swore a lot. Did I mention these sorts of people tended to be Jashinists and albino?

"Oh look, its poor Deidara-chan" Said Hidan, in a high, mocking tone. The named bomber spun around, his eyes dancing with flames of anger.

"Go away, hmm," Deidara said, nearly growling the whole sentence out. Unfortunately for him, this just entertained the albino more.

Hidan dropped the stupid voice and said, just as mockingly if not more, "Oh, what, are you upset about the damn puppet being killed by that pink-haired b***, f***?"

If Deidara's glare had been even somewhat menacing before, this one was terrifying. But this glare was not full of anger. It was ice cold, and could even give the Uchiha Glare a run for its money, and that's saying something.

Hidan waited for the blond's response, looking almost exited to see what he would do.

"HE IS NOT F*** DEAD, UN! SO SHUT THE HELL UP ALL OF YOU, UN! KATSU!" The explosion shook the base, obliterating the walls of the hallway both Hidan and Deidara where in. Deidara, of course, was not injured in the slightest. Hidan on the other hand was lucky to be in only three pieces; his head, body, and an arm. He was also burnt pretty badly, his head screaming profanities at Deidara, who was storming back to his room, a fierce scowl on his face, not caring about the trouble he would be in.

Deidara's POV

They were all against him. Every single one of them, they all thought Sasori was dead. But Deidara didn't think that. He knew that that wasn't true. How could it be? He was Sasori. The puppet master would never die, and certainly not like that. It was just impossible to believe. So he didn't believe it. He refused the knowledge, replacing it with a fact he had known to be true. That Sasori was alive, that he would hate to keep everyone waiting. That he would be here soon. It was all just a little sidetracked mission, it had to be.

So of course to make the whole thing worse Hidan was infuriating Deidara past the point where he could contain it. As soon as he started saying those things, he snapped. Before he knew it, the hallway was blown up, Hidan was in a few pieces, and he was storming away, the smoke stinging his eyes.

Deidara would be in trouble.

He knew that.

The s-class criminal knew he was going to be scolded like a mere child, but at the moment that didn't matter in the slightest. He didn't care about him at the moment. Hidan got what was coming for him. And Pein could say whatever he would like to.

He walked into his room, slamming the door shut and throwing himself onto his bed with an angry sigh. His temper was out of control. He hadn't been getting much sleep, and hadn't been able to eat. He hadn't had the time before being interrupted by another member.

Pein's POV

Pein heard the explosion, and closed his eyes, running his hand through his hair. Groaning, he slammed his fist down on the table. He knew exactly who was responsible. His bomber, Deidara.

The leader had allowed his behavior so far, thinking he just needed to accept the fact. He figured that one of the members went too far, and Deidara had gotten a bit too angry. But all together this had to stop. He couldn't have his organization fighting on the inside. They had a goal that they had to complete for kami's sake! Deidara had to get himself under control. And NOW. Pein needed him to have a new partner, and needed to discuss this with him. Without having anything else explode. He sighed, and decided to call down the blond. This was going to stop.

One way or another.

He turned to look at Konan, who was mindlessly practicing origami in a chair a few feet away. She sensed his gaze and met his, her face blank as the paper she wielded.

"Konan, get Deidara," Pein said.

The blue-haired girl nodded in affirmation, and left the room to find the distressed Deidara. She soon returned with the blond Iwa-nin, and gestured for him to come in. He did, and stood in front of Pein's desk, while Konan shut the door and left the two males alone.

"You know why I called you here Deidara, don't even think about pretending you don't," Pein started.

"Un," Deidara mumbled.

"Your behavior is unacceptable. We are a small organization, so there is absolutely no room for fighting amongst ourselves. You are hindering our progress, Deidara. Listen to me as your leader. If you are unable to accept the fact that Sasori is dead, then see for yourself."

"He's not dead, un" Deidara muttered, earning a silencing glare from Pein.

"Our Akatsuki Spy-"

"Zetsu" The orange-haired male was cut off by the blond.

"Deidara…" Pein spoke warningly, before continuing. "He has informed us that the old base has been destroyed when Sasori lost the battle."

"He's alive," the bomber scowled.

"Deidara!"

The named artist shut his mouth sharply, glaring off to the side, his eyes filled with defiance.

"Because this is becoming an issue, I am sending you there to see for yourself. You can think of it as a mission to confirm Sasori's death, if necessary" Pein finished without being interrupted yet again.

"Fine, un! I'll go there... And I'll prove you all wrong!" Deidara said storming out the door, slamming it shut with a BANG!

Pein let out a deep sigh. However useful to the organization he was, this bomber was one hell of a handful.

Deidara's POV

Before long it was time to depart on the "mission." However much he disliked the other members certainty in Sasori's death, he was determined to find Sasori. He didn't even care that he would be called a "stupid brat" for "interfering when nothing was amiss." Deidara just wanted everyone to lay off!

He was ready to leave for this so called mission-his clay bags full, plenty of weapons, and even some extra food pills in case it took more than a day, which was doubtful-when he sensed a chakra presence nearby. The blue-eyed teen nearly jumped when he came face-to-face with black eyes.

Uchiha Itachi, of course.

"What the hell, un! Don't do that to people, its rude!' Deidara glared, infuriated that the Uchiha had the nerve to sneak up on him. Couldn't the b*** see that he was leaving for a mission! Stupid Uchiha, he had no consideration for anyone but himself! Not to mention he was so inartistic. Deidara was cut off of his silent rant about Uchiha's by Itachi.

"Pein requested that I accompany you on this… mission to make sure you don't do anything," Itachi spoke in that calm manner of his.

Deidara could have sworn that the raven-haired male was going to say 'stupid'. He was certain that's what he was thinking anyway. He had no respect for him or his art, it was insulting. At this point, Deidara was nearly shaking from rage.

"…What?" he asked, his tone not implying a question, but daring the man in front of him to confirm what he had just heard.

However, Itachi ignored it, and started to walk out of the base. Deidara stood there, giving himself a second to wish a long and painful death to the sharingan user before sighing angrily and following him.

Deidara made sure to pass Itachi as soon as they got outside. Deidara knew very well where the destroyed base was, and didn't need any help, certainly not from him. Itachi didn't say anything, his face as emotionless as ever.

It was starting to p*** Deidara off, but he didn't bother to insult Itachi in any way. He knew too well that when pushed, Itachi wouldn't hesitate to use his Amateratsu. So instead the blond sped up, determined to get to the destination as soon as possible. He just couldn't wait for the whole thing to be over and done with, so he could find Sasori, and return to the base.

It seemed like they travelled forever, neither one of them exchanging a word-Itachi not really the social butterfly, and there was no way that Deidara would have a conversation with Itachi. Ever.

They flew from tree to tree, until the sun was three-quarters of the way through the sky when they finally came across familiar landscapes. Deidara recognized the open fields. It was there that the Akatsuki would usually train. To any outsider, it was just a regular field, as there was not a scratch on any of the trees or rock, or burn marks for that matter. But The Akatsuki were an S-class organization, and as one, they were smart enough not to show where there had been in a fight. Even in training.

Deidara kept going without even a thought. His feet knew now which direction to go exactly. Soon, both Itachi and Deidara could spot the river that was near their base. Deidara wasn't really prepared for the utter destruction of the base. He was slightly disappointed though, he wished that he could have been there to see such demolition, even if it wasn't by his preferred method: Explosion. There had without a doubt been a large scale, intense fight.
Deidara jumped down to the wreckage, noticing the destroyed puppets and poison senbon that littered the broken slabs of rock. Deidara knew this technique, though he had never seen Sasori use it. This was enough to take down an entire nation. He couldn't rap his head around the fact that a silly kunoichi and an old grandma had ever stood any chance against this.

A flicker of worry ran through him, as he saw familiar crimson color hair about 10 feet away. He rushed towards the scene, cautious not to step accidently step on any weapons. The last thing that he needed today was to be poisoned by a weapon that wasn't even being wielded, in front of Itachi no less. That however, did not happen.

Deidara's eyes widened slowly at the sight he took in, dread starting to rise.

It was Sasori's body.

He stopped himself however when he saw the missing piece-Sasori's life source, his heart. Deidara scolded himself. Of course, it was this move. Sasori had changed bodies to give him an advantage in fights.

That was relieving, but the scale of the fight was still unnerving. The blonde still smirked, mentally rolling his eyes for doubting Sasori.

Until he heard a voice.

"Deidara, you might want to see this," Itachi's monotone voice called out. Only Itachi's partner would have been able to see the smallest bit of pity, or maybe sympathy, in the Uchiha's eyes.

Deidara slowly turned, his blood going cold, like ice, filled with dread. He looked at what Itachi was speaking about, and walked over. It was like he was in a dream- no, a nightmare. Because this couldn't be happening, this couldn't be reality; this couldn't be the way things were.

It couldn't be.

But it was.

It was Sasori, his body pierced with swords, laying on the ground, next to two other puppets.

This. Could. Not. Be. Happening.

Itachi POV

Itachi soon found Sasori's body, and looked away. He didn't really want to see the puppet master in such a state of death. After all the redhead and himself had gotten along, both of them understanding a comfortable silence. Still, he wasn't particularly upset at his death. But Itachi knew Deidara would be. As soon as he called for the blond to come, he regretted that Sasori had to die. Itachi knew how it felt when someone close dies, although his family had all died by his hand. Still, he knew that this wasn't going to be easy for the artist.

He was right. Itachi could clearly see the shock, horror and pain in Deidara's eyes as he scanned the scene.

The blond fell to the ground, clenching his fist. Itachi saw tears run down Deidara's face, and was a little shocked. The bomber never cried. Certainly not in front of the Akatsuki. And under no circumstances in front of him.

"…no. Sasori can't be dead, no, no, this, no… can't be happening…" Deidara didn't seem to be aware that he was speaking out loud. He seemed to take in the fact that Sasori was really, truly, dead, and all of the sudden sobs racked his body. Itachi stood there, not sure what to do, or do anything to comfort the grieving blond.

Deidara let out a shout, and punched the ground under him, jostling the puppet that once was Sasori, sending the purple blood of the puppet master's hand splattering onto Deidara's. He stared at it, and Itachi saw how his breathing sped up.

Deidara was hyperventilating.

Deidara stood up, and staggered a bit to the left, before leaning over and vomiting violently. He was starting to worry Itachi, so the seemingly emotionless man went over to try to comfort the teen.

"Deidara…" he said softly.

"G-get away from me, un!" The blond spat back wiping his mouth, tears still staining his face even as more began to fall. His breathing was still getting faster, and Deidara was panicking.

Itachi had to calm him down, before he passed out, or threw up again.

"Deidara, calm down. If you keep hyperventilating, you're going to pass out."

Unfortunately this didn't work.

"Get… away… go… away… no… g-go… leave… stop" Deidara spoke between gasps.

Itachi knew what was about to happen. He didn't say anything more, just stepped back.

And sure enough, just as he did, Deidara collapsed.

Itachi went to pick the blond up, and move him to some sort of shelter, seeing as the sun was setting.

Deidara wasn't going to recover from this easily.
